Please don't go here if you have a pet that just needs vaccinations and routine health maintenance. As a new puppy owner, we went to GoodVets since it's in the neighborhood. Our healthy puppy needed his last set of shots and our bill was $800. What we didn't know was that we could have gotten the exact same vaccines at the walk in clinic at Paws for less than $275. GoodVets insists on doing a full puppy exam twice in three weeks for a healthy puppy that had no symptoms. Shortly after the second full exam, we got an email to bring our pup in for a "semi-anual" exam. Again, our puppy was just fully examined twice in a span of 3 weeks! At the last visit, Dr. Lee told us that we didn't need to bring our puppy in until his neutering in a few months. In the meantime, we can start buying his monthly fea/tick/heartworm prevention online. We were so relieved to have a break from vets bills for a little while. So, we placed an order for the exact flea/tick medication that the Dr. Lee recommended, being careful to order the dose appropriate for our puppy size. Imagined our surprised when our order was cancelled. The vet refused to authorize the prescription, stating that our healthy puppy needed to come in for yet another exam. This would be his third exam in 4 months by GoodVets. Needless to say, this is extremely frustrating. Not only is the over examination of our puppy expensive, it's also time consuming. We thought by paying hundreds of dollars more, we would get basic services like a prescription for routine preventative medicine. But our experience with these Vets have not been "good" or ethical. For our dog's neutering, we're looking at Paws ($295) vs GoodVets ($600 + extra charges). Base on recent experience, the extra cost doesn't seem to equal even basic services. read more

I have a 13 week old puppy, Teddy, that I took for a regular exam yesterday. Everything relating to the exam went well and the staffs were very friendly. The doctor recommended that Teddy get a distemper w/ lepto vaccine so we got it and left the appointment very happy. Unfortunately, the next day I receive an email that he needs to get a booster shot for the vaccine he got yesterday (for extra charge), which nobody mentioned at all before/during our visit. If I'd known, I would have looked elsewhere for a cheaper option. I feel completely tricked and upsold. I asked them to have the doctor call me as soon as possible but we will see how it goes. ***UPDATE: The doctor called me today and offered to compensate for the booster shot since I was not well-informed. If you're looking looking to get ripped off and keep your pet sick, I've got the Vet for you! Whenever I am in this office I feel like I'm at a used car dealership - they up sell you on expensive, unnecessary treatments every step of the way...straight money grubbing thieves! Took my puppy here SEVEN times which cost close to $1000, yet his condition only worsened/did nothing at all. I then went on Amazon and spent $25 on medicine that did the trick. Needless to say I'll be seeking his future care elsewhere. Save your time and money, Chicago has too many good vet to waste your time here. read more

Not impressed unfortunately. Being new to the area, a neighbor mentioned this place. I came home to one of my sweet pups dead on the floor--heartbreaking! It was at the end of the day, so I called & talked with them about bringing her in for them to handle, & discussed the service they use. I asked them if they would be able to assist me right when I arrived (appt set), so that I wouldn't have to sit in the lobby holding my dead pup. They said yes, they'd be waiting for me. I would be the one with a swollen tear-ridden face. Got there, as planned, & it went straight downhill--horrible customer service with zero empathy. Kept trying to upsell me the entire time! What did I want? To get my kittens spayed. What did I ask for? To get my kittens spayed. What did I think I was going to get? My kittens spayed. Why did I think that? Because nobody told me I wasn't going to get my kittens spayed, after I made an appointment to get my kittens spayed. What did I get instead? Two "wellness exams," and a $300 bill. For the common good, I'd like to explain to everybody what a $70 wellness exam entails. A wellness exam involves the vet petting your cat for about 30 minutes while she rattles off everything she can remember from veterinary school. I didn't need to pay $70 per cat for a "professional" to tell me that my cat's heartbeat sounds fine, or that my cat doesn't have fleas. The receptionist really should make it clear to new clients what is going to happen when a specific procedure is requested--that that specific procedure will not happen, and that instead you'll get slammed with an expensive lecture you didn't request, want, or need. A lecture, by the way, that contains some alarmingly inaccurate information. You might not catch it if you're an uneducated pet owner, or if you are the sort of person who lets the dentist take multiple unnecessary x-rays every year without questioning it, or if you are the sort of person who would fall for a timeshare presentation, but you'll catch it if you're not an idiot. If I had paid for everything the vet recommended at this appointment, I would have spent over $800 today for no good reason. I noticed some of the other reviews said the prices were reasonable. Lol! No, they're not. The prices are INSANE. Here's the worst part of all of it, and what prompted me to write this review. My girls have been dealing with some irritation in their ears. The vet performed a cytology exam (looking at ear swab under microscope). She could have just performed *one* cytology (my cats are littermates and presented the same symptoms), but she performed one for both and charged me accordingly. She gave me two medications for the slight bacterial/yeast infection present in both cats' ears. Still, I have no idea why there are two separate treatments ($$$). The technician struggled to explain it to me, probably because one (maybe both) of them is totally unnecessary. The technician applied one of the medications to one of my cats in the office by filling her whole ear canal with it. When I get home, I started to worry about this medication. So I pulled out the package insert, and OF COURSE it says ALL OVER the packaging: "FOR OTIC USE IN DOGS ONLY." Are you kidding me? Are you KIDDING ME? What's worse? The dosage and administration instructions say "The external ear canal should be thoroughly cleaned and dried before treatment (didn't happen). For dogs weighing less than 30 lbs (my cats weigh 2 lbs each), instill 4 drops from the bottle." 4 drops!! 4 drops for a medium-sized dog!! And the technican just squeezed a ton of this stuff in my poor baby's ear, and told me to do the same thing at home!! I have never had such a terrible veterinary experience. I don't know if this practice is ultra-focused on dogs and just sees cat owners as a fast money opportunity, or if Streeterville petowners are just incredibly gullible. Avoid like the plague. read more

I appreciated the experience top to bottom. When I spoke with the front desk over the phone they were courteous and efficient. As my dog was not feeling well, I was able to drop off a stole in advance and the front desk put me on a waitlist incase I could get in earlier than my original appointment. Fortunately, that worked out and I was able to get in two days later. The vet and vet's assistant were both very attentive and thorough. I never felt like I was getting sold on anything just getting excellent care. I signed up for the Wellness Plan Plus, which considering the needs of my dog, I think will be very beneficial for this first year. read more

My Italian Greyhound was spayed at GoodVets at 6 months old. The staff was extremely friendly & helped calm my nerves as I left my baby in their care. I received frequent update calls as soon as the surgery was done, when she woke up and when she was ready to be picked up. The post care instructions were very detailed and easy to understand. My puppy and I walked the whole 5 blocks home. I was in shock! Her scar is very small and she didn't seem to be in an excruciating amount of pain. After having been a customer for my two cats for years, I called when one of my cats had an imbedded claw that needed treatment quickly. I was advised that the first available appointment was 5 days away. I asked if they could make an exception and see my cat as he was in pain and distress. They kept saying first available appointment is 5 days away and no accommodation would be made. Needless to say I found another vet that actually cares about cats that need immediate help. The doctors I used to see are gone at the Streeterville location and I cannot recommend this practice at all. read more

Taking my brand new puppy there during a pandemic was one of the WORST experiences I've ever had with a vet. I stood on the sidewalk in 30 degree weather, shaking, while a transient vet called me to tell me there was something wrong with my 8 week old puppy. He could not give me a good explanation of what was wrong, just that an eye was not clear and it could be neurological. He asked me if she had run into anything and told me I should contact the breeder. I was hysterical, on a sidewalk, trying to absorb the very little information I was getting with no solutions. I took my dog home and requested records to share with another vet. In the records, I read that I was "anxious." Furious, I called and spoke with the office manager, who got me a second appointment (free) with the medical director. He re-examined my puppy and found nothing wrong. He told me that the transient vet was "overzealous" in his diagnosis. I accepted this, and went to see this vet for my puppy's shots. She was 5lbs at the time and they gave her 4 shots in one visit. She had a massive reaction with severe lethargy and a huge lump on her hip for the following 6 weeks. A second vet that I took her too said that she was far too small to ever receive so many vaccines in one setting. Despite my poor experiences, I returned once more, because of costs, for a spay appointment. When my puppy's pre-bloodwork came back, the vet called me to tell me that a few levels were elevated and she was concerned that it might be a virus. She asked for a stool sample and told me to come in for an antibiotic prescription. I asked if it could be contagious and she said, yes, bring in a sample of my other dog's stool too. Then I was told it could be giardia. 1) you don't treat a virus with an antibiotic 2) you don't diagnose giardia with a CBC panel 3) my other vet read the bloodwork and told me it was completely unremarkable!! My puppy will no longer be getting spayed there- I will be paying $400 more somewhere else I don't trust this practice and am moving my two dogs elsewhere for good! Beware! read more

I stopped in recently with my cat Patti to see if I could get some advice from a vet about my upcoming cross-country move. Now, I know all cats are crazy, but Patti is a special specimen. I wasn't sure how well this would go over. Upon arriving at the office, I was pleasantly surprised by the aesthetics. The feel was very modern, giving off more of a relaxing vibe like a yoga studio than the doctor's office vibe I was expecting. The staff at the front desk were kind and inviting and I was seen shortly by the vet. To be honest, my cat hardly lets me touch her let alone anyone else. This vet must have the magic touch, because she had Patti subdued in moments. I was able to have her claws clipped as well as got the advice I needed as to how to best manage Patti's stress on the upcoming road trip. Great experience overall! My wife and I were visiting Chicago for the weekend with our dog. He developed a problem with his eye. We called our vet back home who said we should get him into a vet if possible. My wife and I called numerous vets in the area and none could get us in or called back. GoodVets promptly called us back and was able to get our dog seen that day. He is doing much better. I wish I could give GoodVets Streeterville 6 stars! They've provided amazing and compassionate care to our two cats ever since they opened. We always know our kitties are in caring and competent hands when we visit GoodVets. We've seen Dr. Stecher for routine kitten checkups, microchipping, and neutering surgery. She's gone above and beyond to make sure he's comfortable during appointments, including holding him herself when he got microchipped (which is usually an appointment with the vet tech!). When that same kitten ate a yard of yarn, Dr. Remnes (now at the West Loop location) took excellent care of both of us (honestly, I was more upset than the kitten). She almost literally held my hand through the whole ordeal. Dr. Parwana spent more than an hour with us when our kitten and adult cat were having difficulty getting along despite our best efforts to integrate them slowly and carefully. She really listened to everything we described about their behaviors and offered numerous suggestions. We left that appointment feeling very confident in our choice to give our adult cat some medication to help her relax and also start doing some behavioral training with both cats. The staff is always incredibly friendly, welcoming, and supportive. Communication is always a breeze and the amazing vet techs (and even the veterinarians) have been available to answer the phone if we had questions about a prescribed treatment. Prices are very reasonable and I'm always confident everyone who works at GoodVets is putting what's best for the pets ahead of their bottom line. read more

Upon his arrival, I immediately took him to Good Vets for a check up just to make sure he was healthy. The dr and staff were so kind and helpful. I've found Good Vets Streeterville to be very professional and caring. I liked the written visit summary I received today, which I don't think I got on other visits. My only "negative" if I could call it that is that I don't get to see the same vet every visit. That was a big plus at Blum in Lakeview--saw the same vet visit after visit, year after year until she left the practice and we also moved to the Gold Coast. And here is my update because this has been one of the more stressful experiences of my life. These people aimed to correct my previous problem of being miscommunicated over the price without actually completing the job by giving me a refund for the initial physical exam as well as comping me for a new one. So, I set up another appointment for Saturday. However, today they had another doctor call me to ask me questions about my cat and then proceeded to throw out all of the most expensive options of testing without even addressing the anal gland problem. My only request was for us to talk about all of these things after the physical exam was done. I do not want to agree to anything that in the end will cost me more money and may not be affective because they do not like to disclose pricing until the very end at checkout. And they do not like you to ask. I say this because the second I made that clear, I received a call back informing me that the doctor did not want to see her. That my cat was examined and expressed when originally I was told she was not. And they've been trying to put all of her problems on her weight as a scape goat. Please be aware, they will not take care of your animal. I have never seen a vets office as lazy, dishonest and sly as them. My cat is everything to me, I would not be able to maneuver in this world without her and they are willing to let my cat die because they just don't want to deal with it. The constant lies to my face, and emotional distress over my cat has done nothing but heighten my depression and anxiety. I regret the day I ever decided to trust my cat with them. Please never take your animal there. They are sick money hungry people that couldn't care less about your animal or you. They care about themselves. Solely. And nothing more. read more

Once we arrived, we got right in to the room and the doctor was in moments later. Dr. DeMarco was incredibly knowledgable, patient and willing to answer any and every question I had. This was my first visit to GoodVets and I had the BEST experience. The front desk staff was very friendly the moment we stepped through the door. The nurse and doctor did so well with my dog. I have a petite golden doodle who can sometimes get very nervous. The doctor and nurse took such good care of her that she didn't even flinch during the blood work or her shots!! They were very upfront with what was necessary versus not in terms of treatment and gave me detailed estimates right there at the appointment. My family Golden Retriever was in town and somehow swiped a chicken wing bone off the street and swallowed whole, in a matter of seconds, before I could fish it out of his mouth. Living in the building above this place, I frantically called them and they told me to come in and they would take a look. I arrived, completely emotional and they handled the entire situation with complete professionalism. Everyone was so kind to us and treated by eager, happy, crazy Golden as if they were his own, while calmly explaining all the information to me. They saw him immediately, no wait time. I took my cat Carlton to this animal hospital when I noticed he had a UTI. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly and helpful. Alexis made my cat feel very at ease by giving him some attention. Since there was not enough urine in his bladder to test, Dr Stecher offered to give him fluids and keep him there for a few hours which was extremely convenient. They sent us home with some antibiotics and checked in every couple of days to monitor his health. I had a terrible experience, in the past, where a very nice clinic upcharged close to $5,000 for about the same thing Carlton was going through, but at GoodVets I left with a $150 bill, thankfully!
