It is now 1:20 in the morning. I just tried to enter the facility to have a good time with my friend who is visiting from out of town. The security of the venue said that they do not let people in after 1 o'clock. So if you want to have fun in San Clemente until two in the morning like a normal city in any other state, you have to go to Goody's, if you are in the city of San Clemente, and get there before 1 AM, or you cannot have fun until 2 AM in the state. Went there for the first time a while ago and was having a good time at the bar with a nice drink and talking to a random girl at the bar right till the bartender figures she snuck her own drink to the bar and tells the bouncers (I didn't know she did this and spent over $70 on my own cocktails there). The bouncers show up and tell me to beat it with a very disrespectful tone! I start explaining to one of them that I don't know this girl and didn't know she is sneaking her drinks inside but right when I start one of the bouncers grab me from behind and throws me out!!! Me and all my friends were shocked! They didn't say or do a thing to the girl! Totally ruined the night of a group of respectful paying customers.(that night I was the only brown skinned person in the bar). Tina the manager, man does she hustle, but not only that, she greeted me and introduced herself! I feel like I made a friend the second I walked through the door! Then, a very petite woman approached me and introduced herself to me! Come to find out she is the owner!! All the staff were so friendly, I felt very welcomed! I still maintain that Goody's will profile you and kick you out without reason because you look a certain way. And yes, I'm still working to get this addressed. There was a great reggae band (Sublimed) playing as soon as we walked in that made us feel like we were definitely in the place to be in San Clemente. They kept the party going for hours. Fun dive bar atmosphere filled with locals and about 75% Marines on the night I went. I've got one of my own but if you were interested this would be a place to prowl. Live music was awesome, there's a pool table and an awkwardly located second bar in the back. It's a chill place generally and they are not too aggressive at the door or anything - although the bouncers have that look of baby sitting toddlers - again, probably a result of the boys off the base nearby. Even before I knew how the place was spelled, Goodys seemed like a bit of a redneck bar. This impression was reinforced throughout the night when: 1) I watched a man in the parking lot apparently discuss his civil liberties with an officer as said officer approached his pickup. The discussion ended with him in the back of a squad car and a note on his pickup truck informing a friend where to find his keys. [potential lot parking advice in this anecdote] 2) I asked about prices for the bottled beers being sold away from the bar. Me: How many bottles of beer can I get for $20? Waitress: Um, six? Me: Good deal. Waitress: Wait...five. Sorry, I counted wrong. [COUNTED? Really?] 3) A complete stranger slapped me on the back and started a conversation Stranger: Hey what's you're name? Me: Josh Stranger: Well Josh, you're an a**hole. But I like you. [full disclosure, I might be kind of an a**hole] All that said, the place does have a distinctive style and character. If you go out in San Clemente, there are exactly three bars. Odds are, like me, you will go to all three. Of the three, this is the one I found most memorable. Finally in! Back in the day when my hubby was a marine and he and all his buddies came back from their tour. They wanted to go bar hopping, for some reason they thought my nineteen year old self could get in as a dd which I knew was impossible so when we arrived here and sure enough they said no. I stayed and waited outside for hours while they got wasted inside. Completely fine since they deserved to get drunk and have a goodtime. So fast forward I'm 26 now and man does it bring back memories. A fun bar with a live band and no cover chare, lots of young marines and cougars though. A nice local watering hole on your way to...somewhere. The drinks are fairly cheap. The place ranges from empty to pretty busy. There is a dj on the weekends, and the crowd is an ok group just looking to have fun. The ladies room is so scary, though. They use an air freshener or cleanser that will make you gag if you haven't had many drinks, but will induce puking if you've had one too many. And the mess! These girls that go to the bar make a habit of deliberately destroying the place in ways that I would never think of- San Clemente must be a boring place to live with nothing to do. On most nights, there is usually somewhere to sit. Lots of standing room, too. Watch out for cops when you leave - they're everywhere. read more

So we went on the dance floor and we danced really hard and I had a fucking fantastic time. It was super fun I enjoyed it to the max and it made me feel super open and exhilarating. They hadn't permitted me back in for whatever ever reason. I know I know, drunk people... but I was not that drunk and literallyyyy I just wanted to come dance. I never ever harmed anyone, never ever offended anyone, literally never did a single thing to make anyone uncomfortable in anyway, never even made a comment, but somehow I was not permitted to go back in. I was so confused and so off put. I've never been a person to get kicked out of a bar or made to leave. I would never leave a comment unless I was truly so unsatisfied. I know people will probably not even think twice about what I'm saying and that's ok but I'm just putting it out there. I'm such a nice, fun loving, person. I had sooooo much fun here sooo much but after I stepped out and came back, they did not let me back in. I was so confused that I laughed. I thought it as a joke. I never ever ever leave these reviews but I've lived here for 30 years and have never ever had this happen before. Got to give this place high ratings for it's homey, country feel. Line dancing classes on Wednesday night, followed by line dances for an hour or so.
