I love Goorin Bros! My husband and I have been finding their hats at different thrift shops and wanted to go in and check them out for ourselves when we found out there was one up the road in Austin. (We're from San Antonio.) I first went in to get my husband one of the trucker hats from their Animal Farm collection and they didn't have the one he wanted. I picked another one and the girl wrapped it up nice, put it in a really cute bag and assured me that we could bring it back and exchange it if we wanted to. He did want to exchange it so he went in and exchanged it for another and picked one up for me. The same lady helped him that helped me and even though they were still out of stock on the one he really wanted he picked out another one and she took down all of his information and called him when they got in stock and held it. We never go to Austin without stopping in there and picking up something new. They always give great service and have an excellent selection of hats ranging from western to trucker. Hats off to Goorin Brothers! These guys are making some quality hats. These aren't trucker hats they're selling- they're high brow stuff! They have all the different types of hats you can ever imagine- fedoras, bowlers, cowboy hats, they even have a few baseball hats for good measure. They do a lot of felt hats, but also have straw hats as well. They do a great job of showing off the diversity of their hat making. They have hats for all occasions! The staff was all knowledgeable and courteous, allowing me to wander around and check things out. They'll measure your noggin for free if you need 'em to. This place is a true Texas gem. It's one of the few unique small businesses that draw me to south congress during sxsw. It's such a safe place to explore all kinds of hats. It's laid back no judgement energy lets me play with hats I wouldn't normally try on. As a Cali girl the cowboy hat is a bold choice and you gotta come with a certain Miranda Lambert 'backyard swagger'. I just really appreciate feeling welcomed enough to just try stuff on. The selections are ample. Their branded hats are rabbit. They do sell in actual hat size not just small, medium and large. The staff of young women were very attentive and went over the top to help. I was looking for a hat band and they had many styles to chose from. I particularly needed my hat collection cleaned and blocked but they don't do this and referred me elsewhere which was nice. I've been here a few times and I have only ever been greeted once, it's really rude and off putting to walk into a establishment and be ignored. The second time ever visiting a nice young woman with a November birthday (I forget her name) was so nice and helpful to us (the one time we've ever been acknowledged by staff). The only reason why we came back is because my fiancée loves the animal hats so we got some for his birthday. This was my second visit to the store but first purchase. It was packed as they were having a SXSW event but the staff, once free, was super courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful. One of the hats I wanted wasn't available in my size but it almost fit - they were able to stretch it. Another was just slightly too big and they were able to use some foam inserts to let me leave the store with the hat same day. Interesting little hat shop on SoCo. I became aware of Goorin Bros. through an in-store musical performance by one of my favorite local artists, Robynn Shayne. Goorin has a wide variety of hats for men and women in-store, and even more available on their website. So, if you're looking for a fedora, a flatcap, or a top hat, they probably have something that will suit you. They also have bands, pins, and feathers among their hat accessories. Their staff is super-friendly if you need help; otherwise, you're left alone to browse by yourself. While I left the store lidless, they made at least a couple of the friends I was with happy. THANK YOU Goorin Bros! I ordered an expensive hat online from a different store (Rag & Bone) that arrived damaged. The store was sold out of my size, so I could only return it for a refund, not a beautiful wool felt fedora. I was so upset. I called Goorin Bros and spoke to Julia, who was immediately sympathetic to my plight. She assured me that they would take a look at my hat and either steam and reshape it for free, or recommend an excellent milliner who could re-block my hat. I came into the store that afternoon, was helped by another wonderful pair of salespeople, and tried on some other gorgeous hats while they steamed and reshaped my hat (for free! even though I didn't buy it there!). On top of that, they sent me home with a plastic hat form to store my hat on to hold its shape, and sprayed it with a coat of their rain and stain repellent. They told me if I ever needed the hat brushed or re-steamed to come back and they'd do it for free again. Such incredible service! They turned a sad, crumpled hat, back into a beautiful hat, for FREE! They have certainly earned my future business. They next time I need a hat I am definitely coming back to Goorin Bros. I read through reviews and had to wonder if these are all friends of the owner. The only other option is a recent change in staff.... The selection is so-so. Nothing special. I asked the price of a hat and the *VERY* unpleasant sales person said '$80'. I said - I might add in a very nice way - 'I wish the price was closer to the hats you have at the front of the store'. The woman looked at me as if I were from Mars and replied 'it's marked down from $160 and we don't have any hats in the store cheaper than that'. I grabbed a $50 hat and said 'here's one'. She replied 'Ooo-kay', not raising her eyes from whatever she pretended she was doing. What a contrast with the nice staff I met in *all* other stores at South Congress. Location, location... is not enough. Provide your staff with better training. It was not the prices that scared us - it was the way the sales person sneered at us. Unbelievable. This is the coolest place! I have been meaning to come on here for a while to look at hats and finally did this afternoon. Ellie was very helpful in picking out hats that fit me and looked good on me. She was really cool to talk to. I kind of thought they would have a lot more guy hats than girl hats, but no. OMG... I guess being around so many hip and happening folks lately, I got a hankering for a new lid. However, where or where does one even find a cool happening hat. We were enjoying our usual Saturday Funday, fresh off another fabulous Chelsea win, down on SoCo having a few Silver Trains at Guero's when I spotted a rather dashing man walking by in a fedora. Suzie commented that I would look great in a fedora.... so the hunt was on. We checked into Service, which had a couple of hats, ending up buying a watch. They were very helpful and suggested we just walk down a block to Goorin's. Once we arrived, it was then I realized that all this place sold were hats. The showroom had a great feel to it. Very old school wood interior with a plethora of hats for the choosing. Wood panels accented the appearance of a store from the 1800's. There were fedoras, flat hats, wide brims, baseball... the list goes on. I was a little overwhelmed, but the atmosphere was very laid back and the shop was buzzing with patrons. I asked for some assistance and was rewarded with a very knowledgeable assistant. After multiple choices I settled on a black fedora. I will say that I was impressed with the prices. I believe I paid $27 for a quality lid. Most hats were around the $50 price, including felt flat tops. When I went to check out, I spied some whiskey displayed around the back wall. I made the comment that I would like a shot and the wonderful assistant asked how many? Since there were three of us shopping, three it was. Nice little gesture and a great way to end our experience. With the prices being so great and the vast array of hats for sale, I know I will be picking up a winter hat there in a couple of months. read more

Poor quality hats, even worse customer service. My hat came with a hole in the stitching right at the seam on the brim directly above my forehead. Tried contacting customer service, and for weeks never heard back. I was patient due to covid, but after several weeks I got frustrated and wrote again. This time someone wrote me back. The one star that I'm giving are strictly for the person who helped us yesterday and the nice hat he helped us find. Not sure what his name was but he was working around 4 p.m. and he was AWESOME. Today we decided to come back and actually purchase the hat and our experience was 100% opposite. Today there were two men who were working in the store, neither of which spoke to us the entire time we were in the store. One had long hair, the other was a stocky taller man. NOT A WORD. I hate to just jump to conclusions but my husband and I watched as they greeted the four or five other white customers and gleefully assisted them. I mean it was pretty blatant. Like insultingly so. The store was nowhere near busy and it was so bad that when we went to go check out we literally stood at the cash register waiting to be rung up for at least a minute while they kept glancing over at us as if we weren't standing there with the hat to purchase. No smiles, no niceties, no nothing. The experience was literally Night and Day from the person who assisted us the day before. I suppose when you live in a city with such a tiny population of minorities, specifically African-Americans, you become tainted by your environment? Or I guess you could just be a racist which wouldn't be too far off from what is likely the truth. Did they think we were going to rob the store and run off with a bucket load of hats? I guess our brownness was too intimidating for them. My husband still purchased his hat , like I said it was pretty nice, but as a black woman I would definitely suggest that you not support this store if you are a brown person. This place is a solid! I've always loved the hats in this store, they do carry something for EVERYONE. While I've never bought a hat from here, I did come in here recently because I needed a hat box. I needed to ship a hat back to Hawaii and I didn't want to put it in a box that would be easily crushed by the post. The girl working the day I came in was super helpful. I explained why I needed the box and she said "No problem". I thought it was really rad that even though I wasn't buying one of their products that they still offered exceptional customer service. I looked over the hats for kids while the girl retrieved a box for me. My son loves wearing hats and I saw a cute fedora that I thought he would love. While i'm sure he would have looked adorable in it, I just couldn't bring myself to spend $40 on a hat that will be thrown in the ocean, dirt, pool, & playground by a 2 yr old. I am sooooooo smitten over this hat maker. I wandered into their Chicago store a few years back and since then have been completely in love with everything that Goorin Bros. is about. They custom tailor their hats to be the perfect fit for anyone (ie stretching or taping). Sizing ranges between x-small to 2xl I believe, and if they don't have your size out for display they may have it stashed away in the back, so make sure to ask. I personally like to go in with an open mind and ask one of the employees what style would fit me. There is an employee there named Ivan (I could totally be wrong on his name) who is AMAZING with superb style and customer service. He is always my go to guy. As some other Yelpers have mentioned, some of their higher end hats tend to be a little on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. Their hats are top notch and last forever if you take care of them. If you are a frequent shopper like I am, the buy 10 get the 11th hat free punch cards are ideal. Another great way to save is to sign up for their e-mails which usually come out even few months with sales and great savings like 50% off. I have not quite figured it out, but some of the hats that have been drastically reduced give you double points on your punch card and gets you that much closer to your free hat. This review is based more on the company than this particular shop although they are both pretty good. I bought my Goorin Bros. hat a few years ago from the Hat Box on 6th and I have absolutely loved it. Great Quality and Great Style. Well I have recently grown my hair out so I have not worn it as much recently and it collected a bit of dust on my hat rack. I had taken it to the cleaners a couple of times and they have done a good job on it but since I was down on Congress I thought I would stop in and see if they had better advice. They told me if I brought it in they would check it out and could probably clean it for FREE. This is why you buy products from quality companies because they will do what they can to ensure you are a customer for life. Goorin Bros. has that with me.
