My husband and I were staying at the hotel so we decided to try here the last night of our trip. I was pleasantly surprised by our meal after reading some not so great reviews. We got two entrees, an appetizer and dessert. I liked the glaze on the pork belly when just eating it by itself and I only enjoyed the sauce on the side when combining the perfect bite of everything on the plate, it was very horseradish forward. The seafood pasta was great and was a good portion, not too stingy with the seafood. I love a crispy rice app and the pickled lotus root was a nice touch. The dessert was good, nothing crazy but was a nice end to the meal. I planned a weekend away for our anniversary at the hotel on site just go I could eat at this place again. I randomly went there for a business dinner that was family style. I have truly never had such delicious food - that frankly I had no idea what it was - in my life. The surprising combinations and flavors. I made my husband come back and he was highly skeptical when he looked at the menu and I just told him to trust me. The bao. The chicken wings. The French toast. The food was good - shrimp bao buns were a stand out. My main issue is that they make you order everything at once. So you don't know if you're over ordering or under ordering. What a great experience. Our waiter was Max. And he was AMAZING. He was well versed in the menu and helped us pick the perfect dishes. The dinning area was so cool filed with pictures of famous people and cool art work. The food was so good. We had the beef pot stickers, the Snow Pea Salad and the Pepper Beef and broccoli. Just wow. I went to Goosefeather for a brunch with my co-workers today and we genuinely all had a transcendent experience. I'll start off with service. We were a group of 7 and the staff were so friendly and helpful. They refilled our waters and kept the plates to share coming! As for the food, we had smashed fingerling potatoes which were the STAR of today. I've never tasted potatoes like this and I swear I'm a potato connoisseur! The scallion biscuits came with a honey butter that was so delicious and creamy. The crab Rangoon was another dish that was flaky and so freaking GOOD!! It turned out to be a beautiful October day so we were able to go out to the back to explore the property a bit. Those were the highlights but I swear we almost had the whole menu. The pork belly was my favorite. Really interesting take on the pickled sides. Walnut shrimp was also really good. Both these dishes had really good and balanced flavors. Goosefeather is the best gourmet Asian food in Westchester. The restaurant is located in a beautiful old mansion making the visit extra special. The menu is separated into 4 parts: vegetables (a must try large portion) smalls - a great variety of tapa dishes which may satisfy one person and large dishes (get two of these for 2 to 3 people) and lastly sweets. The crispy brussel sprouts were delicious with bacon, chili sambal and pistachios. Large portion. The smoked salmon fried rice with everything flavored spice was like an everything bagel, lox salad mixed with scrambled egg and soy sauce over crispy fried rice. The crème fresh rocked. Plenty for 3 people. The mochi waffle with fried spicy chicken tenders was so melt in your mouth you couldn't wait for more. Only improvement would be the waffle itself which was homemade style, not gourmet. Despite the waffle - this is a "must have"dish. The Cabernet pour was large in a beautiful long stemmed glass. The local brewery draft beer was excellent and an ice cold 16 Oz pour. The mocktails are great - three to choose from. Tasted great. There are so many items to choose from, but keep in mind if you are a party of two- the table may only hold 3 dishes. Burgers and sandwiches are next on my list to try. So disappointing! The restaurant sits high upon a hill and was once a fancy estate in Tarrytown. However, once inside, the lighting is low and the place looks as if it was a fantastic place decades ago, with a mod look that is sadly in need of a facelift. We arrived a bit early for the terrace only to find a huge room without screened windows. It may have been too early in their season. (May) The food menu also needed updating. Appetizers containing puff pastry seemed odd at an Asian restaurant. A beef dish tasted of too much vinegar. The servers were very kind and removed the uneaten dish from our bill. All to say, the ambiance is unique and so is the food - cantonese dishes that could easily be consumed individually or shared. Items on the menu I'd highly recommend are the black pepper beef, smashed crispy potatoes (perhaps our favorite), beef potstickers (our second favorite) and Chow Fun noodles. Here you are greeted by massive rooms adorned for the holidays on this eve of the eve ending 2024. The waitstaff are very attentive and in constant formation to make your experience lovely. Goosefeather serves Cantonese inspired plates to be shared. Do start off with one of their delightful libations. I enjoyed the Jaded cocktail of tequila, mezcal, lime and ginger. Yummy! The first meal was decent and filled us up, but the second meal was incredible, wow. You MUST order the duck. Everything about it was phenomenal. So hear me out, I love duck (grew up eating at all those Chinese banquet halls and duck was always the highlight for me). Anyway, after our tiny Martinis, we sat for dinner..the sat us in the "Dragon Room" (im calling it that because there is a big Dragon hanging by the ceiling) the tables are all crammed together so you are literally shoulder to shoulder with the occupants of the tables to your left and right..we sat to find that the guy at the table next to us was using our table as storage for the things that be didn't want on his table ( ie: candles and an empty water glass) to which the hostess just left them there and I needed to ask the server to take them ) then realized the same guy took and used my chopsticks prior to us being seated ( not the staffs fault but they should have noticed that they were seating us at a table that was improperly set up) Of course I confronted the guy at the table next to us, which upset my wife..so we didn't even get water yet and our Thanksgiving dinner is already going downhill. Anyway..food was ok ( standard Thanksgiving menu ) nothing special at all. Staff was ok..but dont think there is anybody older then 21 working there..all and all, other then its beautiful location, this place is not worth the very expensive prices..in all fairness, im the idiot who booked my Thanksgiving dinner at a " Chinese restaurant " but even still for the price, we expected a lot more. Kind of a hidden gem - I was pleasantly surprised. First the ambience is unique. Situated in an 1840s mansion, you wouldn't expect to be eating Chinese American food. All were good but not great which is unfortunate for the price. Service wise, everyone we interacted with was very friendly and kind. After that I couldn't allow myself to walk away without trying something else.... I then went and ordered the Black Pepper Beef. Ridiculously good. You know that thing restaurant servers do sometimes where they stare straight ahead and do everything they can to avoid eye contact? Goosefeather seems to specialize in that. Our waiter was totally deadpan and indifferent. Our drinks took a solid 20 minutes to arrive. My wife's first course did not arrive AT ALL until they started bringing out the second course and we reminded them she'd never gotten her first. No apology whatsoever from our waiter for this, by the way. Several times during the meal, I found myself looking around to try to flag people down for things that were forgotten. Maybe, you're thinking, the place was just super busy? Our reservation was for 5:45 and the place was literally half empty. I'm a bit conflicted on whether I'd go back here. Located on the Tarrytown manor estate, goosefeather has a limited menu of smaller bites and larger bites served family style. If you don't have guests that need huge portions this is okay. We really liked the fried shrimp baos which had a hearty size of shrimp ($18 for 2). We enjoyed the lightness of the pea shoot salad but the portion was pretty small, the mushroom slippery noodles were good and not oily but portion was small for an entree ($28), and the Classic star was the mochi waffle and eggs (least Chinese feel but biggest portion of what we ordered). The crab scallion pancake was tasty but expectedly oily and didn't settle well with me later. The food felt very refined and good quality and recommended for special occasions unless money isn't a factor. Service was great. The estate grounds are nice to walk around in. Reservations are required and they ask you to cancel 24 hours in advance. There's valet parking or you can self park in the lot not too far away. read more
