I've been to this restaurant twice. The first time was definitely a five-star experience. Tonight, I'd give it closer to four stars. The service was also very slow and felt a little disorganized, with several different waiters serving our table throughout the evening. Overall, we still enjoyed our meal, but the experience wasn't quite as good as our first visit. The mushroom noodle dish was flavorful, but not quite as good as I remembered from our previous visit. Yummy Asian fusion on the pricey side! I think it's a stretch to call this a Cantonese restaurant, but I could definitely see the inspiration in some of the dishes. The restaurant is part of a nice older hotel on Tarrytown House Estate, which has beautiful hotel grounds! And if you're staying in the main hotel building, you can go directly to the restaurant from the lobby without going outside. To start, we had the dry-aged beef potstickers and the wok charred greens. The potstickers were flavorful and perfectly crispy, but perhaps not a $5/piece type of great. The wok charred greens were very saucy but delicious! I love the smokey flavor it had while not actually being burnt at all. Though I think it was so heavy my stomach rioted a bit later that night. For our large plates, we ordered the crying tiger seared tuna steak, char shiu Berkshire pork belly, and the 1/2 red braised duck. The tuna portion was pretty small, but I enjoyed the combination with the avocado and pickled gooseberries. A bit heavy on the sauce for my taste though. I also enjoyed this twist on classic char shiu pork! It made the dish heavier, but I love pork belly and char shiu so I still enjoyed this dish! If the meat weren't burnt on the edges and they removed the dill, I would have loved the dish. Last but not least, the 1/2 duck! This was my favorite dish of the night, carried by the duck stuffed toast . If they sold the toast as a dish, I would buy it. It was crispy, nicely buttered toast stuffed with duck and topped with some nuts and other crispy things, and it was an absolutely delicious spin on Hong Kong shrimp toast. Otherwise, a fairly average roast duck. The restaurant had some fairly loud music playing which felt a little strange for the vibes? Good songs but made it hard to stay focused on conversations sometimes. But I liked the aesthetic of the bookshelves in the restaurant walls--lots of bird and teapot decor, including a teapot that looked like a bird. The servers seemed pretty young but were sweet and did a great job! Overall, if you enjoy Asian fusion and don't mind the price point, I'd still recommend checking out Goosefeather :) read more

Went to Goosefeather for a date night after hearing it was one of the best restaurants in Westchester. Unfortunately, while we did have a nice dinner, the service and food both did not match the fine dining prices or the rave reviews. The restaurant itself is pretty, and we were seated in a sunny room with cute decor. Our server was nice enough, but seemed flustered and inattentive-- once we were able to flag him down for a wine list, and he just gave us the menu with cocktails and wine by the glass (we wanted a bottle) and kind of rushed away before we could ask for the right menu. I know it was busy on a Saturday at 5:30 PM, but overall service was very similar to what you would get at a busy Chili's. We ordered a berkshire pork belly, the half duck, the crab rangoon scallion pancake, and the fingerling potatoes. Everything tasted good and we enjoyed it-- but, our fifty dollar half duck was overcooked and the duck leg was SO overcooked we literally couldn't bite the meat off the bone, it was so dry it was jerky. There was no pink in the center of the duck breast and it was not particularly tender, though the flavor was good. The crab rangoon pancake was yummy but not generous with the size of the pancake or amount of crab for 24 dollars. The berkshire pork belly actually had a good texture and flavor, with a great mustard that cuts the richness perfectly, but we found ourselves wishing the mint side salad was more substantial as it was really good. I will say everything was enjoyable, nothing was bad, but at our dinner the food was not executed to a standard commiserate for the price, especially when similar dishes are available at much higher quality 30 miles away in NYC. The drinks were absolutely BOMB though, and worth the price in my opinion. Overall we did have a nice night, and nice food and drinks. But compared to any good Chinese restaurant in the city, Goosefeather does not quite measure up especially for the price. read more

My husband and I were staying at the hotel so we decided to try here the last night of our trip. I was pleasantly surprised by our meal after reading some not so great reviews. We got two entrees, an appetizer and dessert. I liked the glaze on the pork belly when just eating it by itself and I only enjoyed the sauce on the side when combining the perfect bite of everything on the plate, it was very horseradish forward. The seafood pasta was great and was a good portion, not too stingy with the seafood. I love a crispy rice app and the pickled lotus root was a nice touch. The dessert was good, nothing crazy but was a nice end to the meal. The service was good, and the restaurant itself had a cool vibe, loud but still nice...glad we didn't have to sit in the tent though. This was my second time here and I wasn't quite as blown away as the first time. The room we were in felt like the area they stuck loud families with kids. Little to ambiance in there. The food was good - shrimp bao buns were a stand out. My main issue is that they make you order everything at once. So you don't know if you're over ordering or under ordering. It feels too pressure to then order a lot of food. They also are clearing plates that have sauces / mustards on it before we have even try it. We came here for dinner recently after staying at the hotel that it was a part of. Our group was able to reserve a private room for dinner which was nice. The room that they gave us was quaint and cute but spacious. My only gripe was that the seats were a bit uncomfortable. The service was great and attentive. As the food was fusion, it was an eclectic collection of dishes. My favorite dish was the walnut shrimp. The beef dish we got was good but a bit salty. The dessert we got was okay. I went to Goosefeather for a brunch with my co-workers today and we genuinely all had a transcendent experience. I'll start off with service. We were a group of 7 and the staff were so friendly and helpful. They refilled our waters and kept the plates to share coming! As for the food, we had smashed fingerling potatoes which were the STAR of today. I've never tasted potatoes like this and I swear I'm a potato connoisseur! The scallion biscuits came with a honey butter that was so delicious and creamy. The crab Rangoon was another dish that was flaky and so freaking GOOD!! It turned out to be a beautiful October day so we were able to go out to the back to explore the property a bit. Those were the highlights but I swear we almost had the whole menu. Good news bad news the bad news as far as we are concerned is we will no longer be able to regularly come to Goosefeather. The good news is we were there today to celebrate the sale of our house and moving to being near our grandkids. Katie didn't know we were coming, but when we got there, we got the warmest welcome as always! We were there with our friends, who introduced us to Goosefeather four years ago. We keep coming back to celebrate special occasions, and are never disappointed. The downpours tonight were epic, the leak over our table in the library did not dampen our experience. The pork belly was my favorite. Really interesting take on the pickled sides. Walnut shrimp was also really good. Both these dishes had really good and balanced flavors. Nice bites of salty, savory, sweet, and acid. Would order both of these again. I did wish both of the dishes came with some sort of starch. The menu is separated into 4 parts: vegetables (a must try large portion) smalls - a great variety of tapa dishes which may satisfy one person and large dishes (get two of these for 2 to 3 people) and lastly sweets. The crispy brussel sprouts were delicious with bacon, chili sambal and pistachios. Large portion. The smoked salmon fried rice with everything flavored spice was like an everything bagel, lox salad mixed with scrambled egg and soy sauce over crispy fried rice. The crème fresh rocked. Plenty for 3 people. The mochi waffle with fried spicy chicken tenders was so melt in your mouth you couldn't wait for more. Only improvement would be the waffle itself which was homemade style, not gourmet. Despite the waffle - this is a "must have"dish. The Cabernet pour was large in a beautiful long stemmed glass. The local brewery draft beer was excellent and an ice cold 16 Oz pour. The mocktails are great - three to choose from. Tasted great. There are so many items to choose from, but keep in mind if you are a party of two- the table may only hold 3 dishes. Burgers and sandwiches are next on my list to try. Also, maybe it's just me but this Mansion is either two cold in the winter (or cool spring day )or too hot in the summer. Dress accordingly in layers. I planned a weekend away for our anniversary at the hotel on site just go I could eat at this place again. I randomly went there for a business dinner that was family style. I have truly never had such delicious food - that frankly I had no idea what it was - in my life. The surprising combinations and flavors. You are greeted with a white-house type facade and a grander foyer as you enter. The various dining spaces are intricately decorated with flamboyant wallpaper patterns and eclectic art pieces. All to say, the ambiance is unique and so is the food - cantonese dishes that could easily be consumed individually or shared. Items on the menu I'd highly recommend are the black pepper beef, smashed crispy potatoes (perhaps our favorite), beef potstickers (our second favorite) and Chow Fun noodles. Items that disappointed were the tuna steak (too salty and the garnishes didn't gel) and apple rangoon (excessively sweet). So disappointing! The restaurant sits high upon a hill and was once a fancy estate in Tarrytown. However, once inside, the lighting is low and the place looks as if it was a fantastic place decades ago, with a mod look that is sadly in need of a facelift. We arrived a bit early for the terrace only to find a huge room without screened windows. It may have been too early in their season. (May) The food menu also needed updating. Appetizers containing puff pastry seemed odd at an Asian restaurant. A beef dish tasted of too much vinegar. The servers were very kind and removed the uneaten dish from our bill. As a curiosity it is worth seeing but the menu was hit or miss. read more

The first meal was decent and filled us up, but the second meal was incredible, wow. You MUST order the duck. Everything about it was phenomenal. So hear me out, I love duck (grew up eating at all those Chinese banquet halls and duck was always the highlight for me). Going into this, I had doubts about it - could it really live up to the duck in the 626?! Yes - wow. This place was great. I was staying at the Tarrytown House Estate for a work trip and needed some dinner. Luckily this amazing place was right nextdoor, so I ordered some takeout. Waited a long time to try this place..made reservations for Thanksgiving. We arrived early to have a drink at the bar. The place is beautiful, the bar room is very nice..ordered 2 Espresso Martinis..( pic bellow ) not sure why they came in tiny 4oz champagne glasses while they had beautiful clean Martini glasses stocked behind the bar. Anyway, after our tiny Martinis, we sat for dinner..the sat us in the "Dragon Room" (im calling it that because there is a big Dragon hanging by the ceiling) the tables are all crammed together so you are literally shoulder to shoulder with the occupants of the tables to your left and right..we sat to find that the guy at the table next to us was using our table as storage for the things that be didn't want on his table ( ie: candles and an empty water glass) to which the hostess just left them there and I needed to ask the server to take them ) then realized the same guy took and used my chopsticks prior to us being seated ( not the staffs fault but they should have noticed that they were seating us at a table that was improperly set up) Of course I confronted the guy at the table next to us, which upset my wife..so we didn't even get water yet and our Thanksgiving dinner is already going downhill. Anyway..food was ok ( standard Thanksgiving menu ) nothing special at all. Staff was ok..but dont think there is anybody older then 21 working there..all and all, other then its beautiful location, this place is not worth the very expensive prices..in all fairness, im the idiot who booked my Thanksgiving dinner at a " Chinese restaurant " but even still for the price, we expected a lot more. This is a very average restaurant with kids working in it that somehow happened to get located inside of a beautiful mansion / Inn. Kind of a hidden gem - I was pleasantly surprised. First the ambience is unique. Situated in an 1840s mansion, you wouldn't expect to be eating Chinese American food. I particularly liked the crispy rice, the roast duck, and the baos. The shiumai was a bit too salty. I had been wanting to come here for a long time! I'm a fan of Chef Dale Talde since Top Chef and have heard great things about his food and about this restaurant from a lot of people. Party of 4, early-ish dinner on a Sunday night, sitting outdoors on the patio. (We confirmed with staff that there would be heat lamps if it was cold out.) We reserved a few weeks ahead and ended up blessed by warm temps. The property and the restaurant building are all lovely! Cashless restaurant - credit card only. The menu has good labeling for Vegetarian and Gluten Free items. The staff was also helpful with other dietary preferences (one person in our party doesn't eat seafood.) We ordered everything to share for the 4 of us and it was the perfect amount of food: Wok charred greens Smashed crispy fingerling potatoes 2 orders of crispy shrimp bao (there are 2 pieces per order) Dry-aged beef potstickers Black pepper beef, broccoli Char siu Berkshire pork belly We also ordered 2 cocktails, 1 mocktail and 2 beers. Everyone enjoyed their respective drinks. I want to come back and try more of the veg and the seafood items. For drinks, we got the No More Drama and Mr Wrong which were both fantastic. For food, we did the Brussel sprouts, potstickers, crispy shrimp bao and supreme fried rice. All were good but not great which is unfortunate for the price. Service wise, everyone we interacted with was very friendly and kind. However we didn't see a server from the time we ordered to the time our check was brought out to us, so we were desperate for water by the end and also probably would have done another cocktail if we had the chance. Surprise birthday dinner for my husband and 10 of his closest pals and our kids. You only turn 50 once so why not celebrate it by having dinner at mansion??!! First and foremost, I have to acknowledge the staff! I set this up very last minute and Iris was amazing. She answered my million and one questions, made note of everyone allergies & dietary restrictions and overall made the evening seamless. The wait staff were terrific! We were never thirsty, food came out quickly, empty plates disappeared in a blink of an eye, someone was available at every moment; we truly did not have to ask or think about anything. Now for the star of the evening: the food. INCREDIBLE!! Fresh! Everything was so good, there are no pictures for me to share. The table was quiet every time a new dish emerged. Crab fried rice, crispy shrimp bao, wild mushroom rice noodles, tuna, charred greens and other dishes were so delicious - it's been a few months and I still think about the crispy fingerling potatoes. So glad I finally made it to Goosefeather! Got a couple friends together and went on a Saturday night. We were able to sit outside and did have a cover on their deck. (It briefly drizzled but we were fine). Our waiter was nothing but accommodating and gave us recommendations on what to order. Note: the food does come family style so if you're looking to share dishes, definitely the spot to do so. Every appetizer we ordered was 10/10. The crab rangoon scallion pancake was my favorite. Breezy decor in an old mansion, attentive service and fantastic food. My wife and I had all 5 Dim sum offerings on the menu and they were all amazing. We both agreed that the salmon was amping the best dishes we've had.
