This place is not as busy as it use to be, service was ok. The food is ju st average I had a steak gordita, and the meat was just to dry for me. I do like that they have jalapeños peppers and carrots for you to compliment your meal. They have plenty of seating which is great. read more

So amazing I don't want to write this review so the secret gets out! This has been a local's place for quite sometime, but venture in and you'll feel so welcomed. The Gorditas are made fresh--packed with so many amazing choices. The carne asada is my favorite and the avocado add on is the bomb. The pork w/red sauce is my second favorite. Super fresh, authentic-- crazy great food!! Staff is friendly and will speak Spanish mostly, but don't be shy--just point to what you want and it's all good. I was in the neighborhood, and stopped in at a friend's recommendation. The horchata was the creamiest I have ever tasted. Luscious! The fish tostada (ceviche, not cooked) came immediately, was a mountain of teeny squares of fish perfectly marinated, topped by three slices of perfectly ripened avocado. The mini-gordita filled with rajas con queso was fabulous, when it finally arrived!!!! I had to ask for it three times.... and i was there at 2pm on a Friday when the place was empty! I needed to be festive this Sat. for Mex. Independence day so what better way than to eat Mexican food. My dad used to bring me here when I was a kid and it expanded so much, so business must be really good. They have a parking lot next door and another across the street (it gets really packed on the weekends). The wait wasn't long at all. There was a huge sign that said bucket of coronitas for $9 (smaller corona beer) so since I was being festive why not. I could share w/ my sister. Yummy yummy yummy! Gorditas are the bomb here! I love pretty much all of their food and have never been disappointed. My only complaint is that I don't get to go here often enough. New years day and most restaurants are closed. From a long night of drinking to the new year we were in the mood for some home made mexican food. We decided to take the drive to Gorditas Aguascalientes due to hearing many positive things about this place. Came here around 1pm and place was not so full. We were seated immediately. The menu was pretty well put together. I opted for the mushroom and cheese and the chicharron con salsa verde. To drink we ordered agua de horchata. Our drinks came promptly but i have to say the flavor of the horchata was very watered down. Our order came shortly after. Gorditas as very well stuffed and not too thick. Chicharron was very soggy and falling apart. The mushroom was delicious. Our waitress could have been more attentive. We were trying to flag her down to get a soft drink. Parking is easy. They have a parking lot next to and across the restaurant. Over all i would give this place 3 stars. Flavor was not as great very mediocre as people hyped it to be. The fact that I will drive 20 miles to eat here on occasion should tell you a little bit about the fabled Aguascalientes...The "Hot Water", as I call it, has been feeding locals and out-of-towners for a long time, and their dining room is often full during the summer months. I want to say that they are open until 3am on weekends, but don't quote me on this. They have a "mini football burrito" that is absolutely awesome, the tacos and gorditas are top notch, and the server always makes sure that there are fresh garnish trays on the table. These little containers consist of a kind of Mexican Giardiniera, with spicy pickled carrots, jalapeno peppers, cauliflower, and maybe even tomatoes. This goes great with steak or al pastor tacos! The restaurant seats at least 100 people, and the tables are close together, sometimes making conversation hard when things are busy. Pretty much all of their signage and advertising on the outside is in Spanish, but the staff does speak English so don't be afraid. There are a couple of really sweet hostess/servers that work here that are genuinely friendly people, and that is a nice addition. You can eat like a king for 10$. Not to be missed! If you are looking for a place to go other than the standard late night trip to Maxwell Street or the United Grill, look no further!! This place is great for anytime of day, and most importantly, GET THEIR GORDITAS!!! My boyfriend's family knows the owner and he's a great guy, but aside from that. Their GORDITAS are amazing. Came here Saturday around 7 .. pretty busy day... we decided where to go since no one acknowledges you. We had menu and a waitress taking our drinks right away. No chips or salsa which is sad. I ordered a Pina colada with liquor. My husband wanted a michelada which he asked if they were bomb (to the waitress) which she responded that honestly she didn't know how to make them and that the lady that knew had already left. Ookay! My Pina colada was a liquor colada because it did not taste like Pina it was so strong. So we ordered a tampiquena and my husband had a Dona cucas(I think that was the name) gordita and a pastor tacos and 1 steak taco. He said the gordita was okay not wow like they say.. tacos were nothing special at all. My tampiquena was so small and bland totally not worth the $21 the quesadillas were soooo hard but the taste they had was so good. Wish they would of been hot! I'm conflicted with my review! The food is hands down amazing. I've been here a few times with my dad and I'm never disappointed when it comes to food. The seafood, tortas, tacos and of course gorditas are PHENOM. But the service is absolutely terrible!!! I mean the layout is basically a NY diner, someone comes and takes your order and you will never see them again. I get that. But the food also comes out sporadically. This place holds a sentimental place in my heart and stomach lol! Reason being it's the very 1st Mexican taqueria I remember that ever served gorditas in Chicago. Now pretty much every place sells them but many not like this. Here they are homemade the masa ( cornmeal ) is made here in store and is never bought outside or microwaved. In fact I could remember the old ladies making it there while they were open. Any how the masa is still nice and soft not dry the steak ones are delicious and if you want more meat order them plain with cheese or condiments on the side this way there is more meat inside. The Dona Cuca which is pretty new to the menu is super bomb pork simmered in chile ( green salsa ) it could be spicier at any moment just depends on the peppers they are using, pork is nice and soft too. Also try the chicarron, suadero, and their various cheese ones all very good. Now I will deduct 1 star because of the drink situation only medium or small no large which is just plain ridiculous, a ploy to get you to buy another drink. Prices went up too 5 bucks for a gordita with tax! I have not been here in years, and it just seems a bit different. First, it was lunch time on a Monday, and it was not busy, which surprised me. The waitress was ok, kind of quiet and seemed rushed despite hardly any customers. The horchata did seem off like one lady wrote a while back, kind of watered down, so 2 stars on that. I ordered a steak burrito, which came very quickly, that was a plus. I give it a 3.5 star. The fresh guacomole and chips were excellent, 5 stars for that side dish. The queso quesidilla was eh, half shell only wrapped an half. I've always seen 2 flat shells with the cheese in the middle, maybe a cost savings? I'd give it a 2 at best. Parking was fine, but on the weekends be prepared to park on the street. Lastly, I had totally forgot about the check being up front, so sitting an extra 5 mins waiting for a check was not cool. Soooooooooooooooo, went out to Cicero for homemade tortillas/ gorditas. It was worth the drive. Not a place to take a date to try to impress, but the food is yummy yummy yummy. We had a gordita with rajas y queso and Carne a la Tampiqueña. The skirt steak portion was insane (in a good way). It came with handmade tortillas on the side.
