Best Fish and Chips since the West Coast or Scotland!! The Combo was excellent as everything was cooked to perfection. Chips were so good! Voodoo Bear or whatever was a great pairing!They were busy and very sweetly apologized about it and with indoor or outdoor seating we enjoyed waiting inside and ate outside as it was perfect weather.
Solid fish and chips especially with the tartar sauce, it tasted even better right by the water. We love their biscoff milkshake (I'd come back just for milkshake tbh) but it was sold out at the time so we settled for the chocolate milkshake. They are always busy when we visit so we do have to wait quite a bit but I'd says it's worth.
Damnit Gordon! That should not have been that good. We went with the fish and shrimp combo and everything was really fresh and tasty. The sauces paired perfectly with it too. Now the real star of the show was the Biscoff shake. Hands down the best shake I've ever had. Just take my word for it and try it if you ever get the chance.
This has been on my go-to list for a very long time. I finally made it this past weekend on a lovely 60 degree day in Washington DC. The location on the Wharf has always made it difficult due to parking. The nearby Wharf garages start at $11 per hour. You really can't spend a couple of hours there without the exorbitant parking fees. But if you do come down to the DC Wharf, do try the Fish & Chips. I do not normally get fish & chips on any menu because of the grease but I had to try Gordon Ramsay's. I was not disappointed. I got the Gordon Combo which had one piece of fish, one piece of chicken, and three shrimp. The fish and shrimp were delicious. The chicken was juicy. The fries were crisp. Everything was well done. I thought coming after the lunch hour close to 2PM, it would not be that busy. Not so. It took almost 30 minutes to stand in line to place my order on two self-order kiosks (one human person was also taking orders if you technology adverse) and then move to the pick up section to wait for your number to be called. The place was definitely busy and full of tourists. Once I got my order, I headed outside to enjoy my meal. There are plenty of benches if a table is not available. I highly recommend eating outside on a nice day. So much people watching and fresh air next to the water.
Maybe we caught them on an off day? We have so enjoyed Gordon Ramsay fish & chips previously but this day they were meh. Staff was extremely friendly, although it took over 10 minutes for us to get our order (2 fish & chip baskets with truffle fries) and the store was not busy. When we got our food neither the fish or the fries had any crispiness to them. I can't say soggy necessarily, but almost as if the oil wasn't hot enough. We ate the fish and the fish tasted decent, but we left our fries. Definitely a disappointment overall.
We decided to give this place a try after hearing good things about it. We were here on a Saturday around 4 p.m., and the place wasn't busy. All ordering is done on touch screens, which can sometimes be frustrating. You almost need a PhD in computer science to operate the ordering system. When an employee saw us and another customer puzzling over the screens, she came out and assisted us all. We told her it was our first time here and thanked her for her help. We both ordered the fish and chips. Cod is the fish they use, and it worked very well. We also ordered regular "chips" (just salted). They offer up items like "dirty chips" that cost extra. The order also comes with a choice of two sauces. We both chose dijon mayonnaise and cocktail sauce. To drink, we each had a bottle of water. The employee handed us our water right after we paid for the food. Our receipt had an order number, so we waited for our number to be called, which didn't take long. As for the food, we both liked the fish. The coating was crunchy, and the cod was flaky and moist. This dinner box also comes with a lemon wedge to squeeze over the fish (which we both did). The "chips" arrived piping hot, which we appreciated. As for the dipping sauces: to me, the dijon mayonnaise was very mildly flavored with the dijon. My husband said he barely tasted it. (He likes fries with mayonnaise anyway. ) The cocktail sauce had a bit of kick. I rarely use cocktail sauce, but my husband, who uses it more than I do, said he thought it could have been better: it arrived as a partially solid ketchup-like mass in the cup. Perhaps, they could have added some other ingredients. I wasn't impressed by the tables and chairs. The tables were spacious, but the chairs were too low. As a short person, I found myself sitting too low to the ground, like a kid at the adults' table. (The place has two unisex bathrooms. One of them needs to have its commode seat replaced) Otherwise, we liked the food and thought the portion size was just right -- neither too much nor too little. We would consider going there again. Bring your gold card.
I will admit, I came here about 30 minutes before closing, but I do not think is an excuse for the overpriced food with Gordan Ramseys stamp on it. For a restaurant with his name with a classic dish from his home country, I had high expectations. As much as I like how the batter was light and crispy, it was way too salty for me. The sauce selection was interesting and yummy, such as the curry sauce (I've never seen or tried that with fish and chips). The fried fish had some empty spaces inside (less meat) and the batter was so salty, the sauces couldn't save it. Maybe it was because I went right before closing, but I was very disappointed. The inside was modern, and British decorated with colors, but that was really it.
Quick take: craving fish and chips We ordered a combo and shared between two people.The combo had fish, shrimp. and French fries. I liked the outdoor seating ver much. The tartar sauce is very good. Next time I want to try the cocktail sauce as well.
Arrived before lunch rush at 11:30, ordered on the tablet and there were only a few people seated eating and one other person ordering next to us. The took really long and got worse by 12. Got food at 12:10 and they forgot the added chicken tender I ordered but luckily I caught that early on. Let the lunch rush die down and ordered the mini shakes. Waited for 20 minutes until I asked how far along until my order, they said to pick it up at the drink counter. No one was there when we ordered the shake and there was no sign. Added a biscoff cookie to the shake... which they also forgot and put it on the side cup. Overall it's a small portion and what got us full were the dirty fries. Wanted to try this in Vegas but ended up trying it in DC while in the area instead. Don't come if you're expecting food within 15-20 minutes.
Yum!!! A bit pricey but definitely worth the view and they were delicious. Very filling and flavorful. Look like there is not a lot but it was quite a bit of food. The curry sauce was amazing. Definitely be having this again. Great service and hopeful staff.
I must have caught them on a bad day. I've been wanting to try this place since they opened. I came on a Thursday night before meeting friends in the area. The place was clean, and ordering at the kiosks is fairly simple. I tried the Gordon's combo, which consisted of 1 piece of fish, 1 chicken, 3 shrimp and fries. My order took less than 5 minutes to get, and unfortunately I was a little disappointed. For $20+, you get more fries than anything. The chicken had no flavor and was smaller than the size of my palm. The fish was also tiny compared to other pics and reviews I saw, and the breading was sliding off first bite. The shrimp were perfect in size and taste. I should've taken a picture of the cocktail sauce. Im assuming it was previously frozen because the texture was way more of a paste than a dip. I'm a huuuge fan of fish and chips, and this one just wasn't worth the money. If I ever came back, I'd probably stick to the shrimp. Never again on the chicken though. For less than $20, i wish there was a Long John Silvers in the area.
I'm a big Ramsay fan and have had his version of fish and chips at other restaurants, so I figured I would give this a go at this location. The Wharf has so many options for a meal if you are willing to sit down and have an experience. However, I wanted to be able to go in, place an order, and eat at my leisure in my solitude. This place afforded me that and I was never happier. Being one of four locations in the States I walked in and right up to the ordering kiosk. I wanted to go old school here, so I bypassed the combo dishes that included chicken and/or shrimp. I wanted just the Fish Combo which comes with three pieces of cod and chips. Two dipping sauces of my choice as well. For me it was Gordon's Tartar and the Dijon Mayonnaise. I also upgraded my chips to Dirty Chips #3 (bacon cheddar, green onions, sour cream). Added a drink, paid, given my receipt by the machine. Before I could go back and find a seat a staff member was already there to provide me with my drink. I went with sweet tea and after I was handed it I was told there were free refills. I like this space. It's big and feels intimate, but at the same time you can find a spot where you are by yourself. I did just that. I went towards the back, past the restrooms, and found myself a nice two top with a nice view of the street. Allowing me to people watch and take in the scenery. Before long my number was called and I went to fetch my food. The portion size, a bit small to me. Definitely not what I paid at other establishments that serve Gordon's recipe for this very dish. But the taste was out of this world. The cod was a bit bigger than a traditional fish stick size. Perfectly battered, giving you that crunch you would expect to hear. The chips, I should have gotten them plain with just sea salt. The toppings were nearly lacking and didn't do the chips justice. I wanted more of the toppings, especially since I was up charged for them. Totally missed the mark for me Overall, great experience, but when I do return, I will definitely give other things a try this go around.
Had this in Vegas and loved it and same for here. Super quick service and food was prepared perfectly! Cant wait to go back. Need to try a biscoff milkshake next time. Indoor and outdoor seating. Clean and well maintained.
High hopes for this place as I had the one in New York and it was exceptional. Rainy Thursday, 6pm the restaurant wasnt too crowded. I opted for a big tasting with a lobster and shrimp combo add fish. Mango curry sauce and the Southwest Ranch were on point and consistent. However the entree was overcooked - the lobster and especially the fries (cardboard). I did not scream "Not good enough!" But I did send it back - its Gordon Ramsey and its lobster afterall. A few minutes later I was brought back a refire, minus the fish. I didn't really mind since the cardboard from earlier had started to weigh me down. Much much better. We're going to start off with the negatives. The biggest disappointment overall are the portion sizes. They had a great option to do two half sized shakes so you could try both shake flavors, but unfortunately they aren't really half sizes, more like third sizes. The lids that are filled with whipped cream make it look like it's a true half size but then you realize that You're getting a LOT less shake. So great idea, but poorly executed. We were also disappointed to find out the Ramsey Combo was so small. Four pieces of shrimp, one piece of chicken, and one piece of fish. We didn't realize this until after my partner ate the whole piece of fish and I ate the whole piece of chicken. Needless to say we were both bummed. I also didn't love how they put the fried food on top of the fries instead of having them plated next to each other. We had one of the combo fries with some goods on it and I didn't love how that was touching my fried food. Yes, I'm one of those people who like my food separated, especially when different flavours are at stake. Now for the good. Serving times were very fast. And for the most part everything tastes good. They have malt vinegar! (It's packaged but that's fine.) What we got: Gordon Ramsey Combo - 3.5* it would've been nice to have at least two of each item, I knocked off half a star for that. And it lost a full star for overall portion size. Sauces - 4* (you get two). The mango curry sauce was amazing! Hands down 5*. The Gordon's Tartar - 3* nothing special. My partner thought it tasted fresh and I thought it just started like tartar. Combo #1 fries - 3.5* the fries were alright. The toppings were really good. I liked the fresh jalapenos! The chorizo was a bit greasy for me, especially when it was the only thing left at the end. Biscotti shake - 4* tasted like a biscotti! Really liked the creamy texture of the shake. My partner who's a big biscotti fan says 5* hands down and would get the full size next time. Pumpkin shake - 4* tasted like drinking a pumpkin pie and I loved it! read more

If I could give this a negative rating I would. Gordon needs to take a break from television and focus on his own restaurant which has all the same issues he seems to fix. Dirty restaurant with food all on the floor both in front of and in back of the counter. Fish and chips should be a no brainer for this brand. As someone that has lived in England for many years, I can confidently say this is the Taco Bell of British food. Just horrific. Soggy fish, soggy chips, over salted soggy (what was supposed to be) Parmesan truffle chips with not a truffle shred in site. These were like the soggy American fries you get at McDonalds if you don't eat them immediately. These are not British chips. Lastly, the 'crafted' lemonade was so aggressively sweet and sour at the same time, I had to pour out 75% of the drink and just fill it with ice and it STILL was too sweet. These best thing about this place was the crushed ice. But not for $32.98. Unbelievably overpriced for extremely subpar food. Shame. read more

I finally made it!!! I've heard mixed reviews, but knew I had to try it for myself. It's not the biggest as far as the seating area, but I found a window bar stool seat. The staff was very friendly, which I always appreciate. I am Team Ramsay...I'll put that out there. Is it over priced...Yes!! But is it really good...Yes!! I didn't do any of the speciality fries because I wanted to focus on the proteins and sauces. I got the fish and shrimp. Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. I tried the tarter sauce and the curry mango. The tartar sauce was good, but I should've seen if they had some hot sauce to add a little razzle dazzle. I try my sauces with fries, so I thought the curry mango wasn't good initially. However, eating it with the shrimp changed the game. Next time I'll try one of the fries. It's not somewhere that I could go often because of the location (parking is a nightmare) and the price, however it was delicious. If the opportunity presents itself, I will definitely go again!!! read more

The service was quick and their staff were very friendly. My favorite was the shrimp combo with curry&mango sauce. Fishwich was pretty good as well, but the shrimp felt like the highlight. It was a beautiful Sunday. Most of the customers ate outside, so the inside was not crowded and very pleasant. A thumb to their music playlist. read more

The layout is well-designed, and the waterfront views are stunning. It's the perfect spot for outdoor dining. Ronyae B. provided exceptional customer service, even offering refills. I ordered the fish sandwich, alacarte, which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Fresh seafood and a delicious snack. And the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant for a casual and enjoyable meal. $6.99 for the fish sandwich felt like a bargain. read more
We wanted to see what all the buzz is about and decided to check this place out. I have to say the hype is more than the flavor of the food. We got the fish and shrimp basket and the Gordon's special basket. Between the fish, chicken, and shrimp, the shrimp had the most flavor. The fish was very bland and the chicken didn't have much flavor either. We stuck with the standard sea salt fries and those were pretty tasty. For the price, I don't think this is worth the hype. Since they are still fairly new I would try them again, the service was great, the food came out quick, and there was ample seating, but I'm not sure at least right now that the food and flavor is worth the price. read more

Gordon Ramsay's fast casual fried seafood spot is a great cheaper spot to catch a quick bite while you are at the wharf. Went on a Saturday during the day and there was a wait that took us about 10 minutes to get through the line. You can expect this place to always be packed. With the name Ramsay it will always be packed. I got the Gordon special which included 1 fried fish, chicken, and some shrimp. You get two sauces with your meal and you can upgrade your fries for an additional fee to make them dirty. The food was good but after a couple of hours my stomach didn't sit right with me. It is a lot of fried food to take in on one meal. It is nothing to special either besides this being a Gordon Ramsay spot. The service we got was great and they treated us great. Gordon does his best to meet the expectations of those who wander around London after a night at the pub looking for chips and freshly fried fish. French fries were close enough cousins of British chips to hint strongly of authenticity. Vinegar is on offer (as is tartar sauce and others- actually the most complicated part of ordering is narrowing down sauces) and the tables are simple. Tourists and locals mixed in the DC stickiness. Nice food, great ambiance, and a plethora of sauces really make this place worthwhile. Portion wise, it leaves much to be desired given the price is so high. Fish tasted authentic with batter reminiscent of London. Shrimp were large and perfectly fried. Shake was delicious and priced right. Chips were fry-like and not chip-like. Chicken tenders were not good; they used the same batter for chicken and chicken, and while it is great for fish, it really does not taste good for chicken. read more

This is basically the worst Long John Silver's box you'll ever pay $19.99 for! There is absolutely nothing special or worth $20 for this bland, average mess. Welcome to The Wharf DC, Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips! I came to The Wharf for the first time in a while this weekend and noticed more new restaurants. GRFC is one of them. Every place seemed full and there was a wait time for a table but GRFC is like a take out place so we decided to wait in the kind of long line to order for our lunch. After waiting for 15 minutes to order, we waited another 30 minutes for our food to be cooked. After finally getting our to-go fish and chips, we went outside to a near-by table and enjoyed our first experience of GRFC. The cod was battered and fried perfectly with crisp outside and moist and tender inside. It was just as good as the Fish Fingers of Coastal Flats. But the great thing about GRFC is that they have six kinds of sauces including Gordon's Tartar and you can choose two for your fish and that you can upgrade your chips (fries) at additional cost. I chose Gordon's Tartar and Sriracha Aioli for my fish and Dirty #2 for my chips and I really liked them. Despite the many customers' order volume, I thought the kitchen was operating well and cooking each order just right. I will definitely come back to this place again. read more

With two new Gordon Ramsay's restaurants at The Wharf, it was bound for me to try them out. With Fish & Chips being the casual restaurant, this is the easiest one to try first. Don't get me wrong while it maybe casual dining there's a elevated appearance inside. I tried everything they had the offer. The Secret Gordon Combo had to be my favorite. The lobster was good and crispy. The staff recommended the Dirty Chips #2 which tastes well. The only thing I didn't like was after I hate the dirty chips then eat the fish, it was an after taste. The fish was flaky and sizable. All in all it a good place to grab fish & chips if you're have a taste for them. read more

Super lovely little place to stop by! You're definitely paying a bit more for the brand, but the food is worth it. The aesthetic is incredibly cute, and the staff is very sweet and patient. Orders come out extremely quickly, even with the long lines when I was here. The fish was perfectly cooked and so crispy and you had just enough sauce for the chips. The smoothies were the star of the show and I give my highest praise when I say: they were not too sweet. The restaurant is located in a gorgeous area, perfect for a leisurely walk while eating or sitting along the wharf to enjoy your meal. The only downside is the limited indoor seating, and those seats fill up quickly, especially in the summer heat, which isn't ideal. However, despite that, the overall experience and vibe are fantastic. I will definitely be back to eat my way through the rest of the menu. read more

I see "Gordon Ramsay" anything and I reach for my wallet. This is a fish and chip shop that really delivers. Simple menu of fish, shrimp or chicken and 3 options on fries. There are lots of sauce choices but I was advised that tartar and sriracha aioli were the best. Food came out in a flash. I've been to London and tested many chip shops. This is the best order of fish and chips I've ever had. Juicy, flaky fish. A tang of vinegar. Squeeze the lemon and you've got the perfect bite. Beyond crispy batter really made a difference. I went with option 1 for fries: jalapeños, red onions, and other goodies. My Biscoff shake caused a fight with the couple a table away. It's sweet with ground biscoff cookie crumble. Bare bones interior. Eat and move on. This is a pricy but satisfying stop at the wharf. On the way out there was a line queued up but moves quickly. I will be back for more. read more

Yes they're dairy free. I've asked the employees several times during my multiple trips to the restaurant.

Where is the closest garage to park at? UPDATE: we parked at Wharf Parking Garage 1 - 7th Street Circle Entrance (address: 700 Water St SW, WDC 20024) which was less than a block from the restaurant (rates: 30 mins $5, up to 1 hr $10, 1 - 2 hrs $20)
Garage 2 is directly behind Gordon Ramsay Fish and chips. It's expensive, so if you're only going to pick up food, you're probably better off with street parking if you can find it.
Are the fish and shrimp fried separately?
Yes, I believe they are! They actually have a counter above the kitchen where you can see the number of fish, shrimp, and chicken the staff is frying. I'd say that's a pretty good indicator that they fry them separately.
What kind of oil do you use to fry your fish and shrimp?
