I went to the salon for the first time today. Everything was so clean and they had a great game plan for covid. The people were so sweet, including the lady at the front desk (I do not remember her name). Allison cut my hair. She was so awesome, had in-depth knowledge about the hair products she used, had great talent, and made everything feel comfortable. I went much shorter than I am used to, so she was great when it came to navigating through the process (I wanted something that looked clean and pretty without requiring too much maintenance). This is one of the few times I've left a salon feeling genuinely excited/happy about my haircut. I showed her a few pictures and the cut turned out way better than I was hoping for. It's perfect! I am so glad I found this salon! My first appointment with Renee was the last day before the stay at home orders, and I was so glad to have her color and cut my hair (I didn't know it would be 3 months before I could get back). Then I came back and had over an inch of salt & pepper growth and she worked her magic and my hair looks amazing. I love this place! The atmosphere is very open, airy, and friendly. Conveniently located among other shops and restaurants, it's a perfect day of relaxation for me when I come here. My favorite stylist is Tina, who recently moved here from the Chicago location. I would say that this is a good one stop shop since they are so close to everything you need. I also felt that my appointment was handled with efficiency which helped because I came in the middle of a work day. Let me start by saying that I don't like writing bad reviews, but I'm pretty disappointed in the outcome of my services with this salon. I originally had my hair done in Evanston. We recently moved and had a baby, so in the interest of time I was looking for a stylist closer to our new home. I showed her a picture of my hair from 5 years ago and asked that we work toward that. I paid around $300 and my cut/color took about 4 hours. I don't believe any hair appointment should take 4 hours!? This was my first cut since having the baby and I was excited to have some me time, but this was inconvenient and has been more work than self-care. At the end of my appointment, I noticed the cut was uneven, which the stylist also noticed and tried to fix. The color was beautiful, but it wasn't what I wanted. I specifically said I didn't want blonde around my face and that I was looking for something a bit darker overall with a few bright highlights blended throughout. When I got home I noticed the cut was still uneven. The next day I called to see if someone could fix my cut and to voice my disappointment in the color. The receptionist told me she couldn't schedule me for the cut and color correction at the same time, so she just scheduled my cut. They scheduled me for the Wilmette salon and I went in for that appointment which was great. The stylist quickly fixed the cut and said all I needed were some lowlights and the roots touched with a darker color and maybe a few brighter highlights added. She said it should be simple and quick and that she would put some notes in my file for the stylist that ends up doing the color correction. They scheduled me for the Glenview location the following week, which was last night. This is now my 3rd trip to the salon in 2 weeks (with a baby at home... so I really don't have time for this). I met with the stylist who was doing my color correction and we talked through what I wanted. I showed her the picture I showed the first stylist and she said no problem. She was going to darken the roots and put in some lowlights and a few lighter pieces. After nearly 2 hours, I left the salon where I thought my hair looked nice. Well, I got home and in different light and daylight today, I'm noticing a clear line where she darkened the roots. The color is more in line with what I was looking for, but there are only a few lowlights in the front and the rest of my hair still looks pretty blonde. My husband even asked if there was supposed to be a dark line between the colors. Ugh. So now I've spent over $300 (tips for cut and color correction services) and over 6 hours getting my hair done and it definitely doesn't look like I got it done at a high end salon. Everyone I worked with was very nice. I'm just disappointed in the outcome for the money and time spent. I'm now looking to get in with my old stylist to have this all fixed as I don't want to risk going for another unsuccessful color correction. Nor do I have the time. read more

Going to a salon during COVID-19 precautionary measures is challenging but Gordon Salon in The Glen has done a wonderful job at keeping the experience positive. Limited tp only 12 people at a time, including guests and staff, there is enough space to be safe and also to provide a private and relaxing environment in this brave new world. My stylist Robin does a terrific job with my curly hair with its coarse texture. I went in after 5 1/2 months with a wild mop and walked out feeling refreshed, and human! Kudos to all! read more

This was my first visit. The staff is so friendly and they clearly all get along with each other. I had a head massage as my hair was washed. It was so wonderful, I fell asleep for a few minutes. Then had the cutest haircut by a talented and very friendly stylist, Josie. She made sure I was okay with the length and style before she started. I love the results. Being new to the area, I was super nervous having to find a new hair stylist and salon. I was really excited to walk by and see a new Aveda Salon in my area! I called the day of and was able to get an appointment for a full highlight and cut with Allie. I hadn't been to a salon in at least three months due to a pregnancy and Allie did an excellent job making me look and feel my best. She has a great personality and made my experience really enjoyable. I will definitely be back and I recommend Allie! Updated to note that stylists keep leaving the salon to go to other locations. I've since been back three addition times and received okay service by three different people. While I love Aveda salons and went regularly while living in the city, my experience in the Glen was nothing spectacular considering the price I paid...I'm going elsewhere in the future. read more

I was looking for a new salon because I did not feel safe at the previous salon I had been going to in regards to COVID-19 precautions. I was specifically looking for an Aveda salon because their products are naturally-derived and environmentally friendly. When I was directed to this place via the Aveda website, I knew this was going to meet my standards! If you are looking for any of the following, this is your place! They do the following precautions: -Lock doors (must call/text to gain entry) -Mandate mask-wearing at all times in the salon -Sanitize your hands upon entry -Conduct temperature checks for each client -Conduct COVID-19 screening questions on an iPad, which is sanitized before/after each client -Give you a sanitized pen for any other forms/signatures -Give you a fresh robe for that spa-like feel (but also helps keep clients from spreading fomites at stations) -Keep clients at least 6ft apart -Sanitize stations before/after each client -Have a hair washing area where there are floor-to-ceiling curtains separating each station -Have sneeze guards for front desk -Do not handle cash (credit/debit card only) Even if I weren't looking for specific COVID-19 precautions, I felt that this place exceeded my expectations. There is online scheduling available now, but I called (well, had to call twice because they weren't picking up and didn't get my message - my only complaint) and stated that I was a new client. I appreciated the thoroughness and attention given to me by the receptionist. She asked me questions to figure out my hair type and was able to tell me upfront how much my service would be. She was very clear about COVID-19 precautions they take, including stating that they were not doing blow drys at the time (now resumed). When I arrived, everyone seemed so warm & friendly. The salon itself looks immaculate and has a modern/airy feel to it. The hair washing area has a spa-like atmosphere to it, with its dimmed lighting and new age/meditative music. The scalp massage I received was also amazing!!! The stylists bios are all on their website. I scheduled an appointment with Josie. She is very sweet and did a great job with my color. Other stylists have just slathered on hair dye, getting it all over my scalp and hairline. Because my color is dark, it would look very obvious that I had just dyed my hair and would take 2-3 days to slough off my skin. She took smaller sections of hair and applied the color oh so carefully so as not to hit the scalp. I was impressed! Change can be scary but also good! I was stunned that for $10 more per visit, I would be getting 10X the level of service I previously had. Who knew?!?! read more

I found Allison after a bad experience at the Lakeview location. Originally a customer at Lakeview, I didn't like the traffic, waiting and hard to make weekend appointments. I love the location in glenview and that I don't get stuck in bad traffic! Driving from Chicago to Glenview is totally worth it if you have Allison. She understands what I want and need and hasn't disappointed me once. She gives the best advice when it comes to drastic style choices (listen to her!). I strongly recommend Allison. Since the location is so new, making an appointment isn't hard and it's easy to call and reschedule if life happens. I don't think I'll be switching salons any time soon! read more

Needed to find a new stylist since I moved. This place seemed nice enough so I came in for a haircut. I brought two separate photos showing how I like my hair. The stylist said that she would have no problems cutting my hair like this. I take off my glasses and let her do her thing. She was really nice, lovely person to talk to. But unfortunately she completely botched my haircut. She cut it WAY to short. Comically short compared to what I had asked for in the photo. I don't know if I just got a newer stylist or what but I didn't have a good experience here at all and will most definitely not be coming back. read more

I've been coming here for a few years now, and what Robin is capable of with a pair of shears to my shaggy head is not unlike what Michelangelo was capable of with a chisel and a chunk of marble. Her skills are virtually unparalleled. Many times have I left a Sport Clips or a Supercuts in either a blind rage or tears. No longer! I SAY, NO LONGER! I tried to like this place, but unable to recommend it. I started with one stylist and then she broke her foot. They tried to put me with stylists in the same price range. I don't think they were. They were very junior and damaged my hair. I also didn't like the pressure of having to book your next appointment when you leave and also having to purchase Aveda products.
