Well, this was close to the hotel. Not exactly cheap Mexican or even good Mexican food, but there was a lot of it. We got a couple of beers and burritos. Im not sure they serve rice with frozen corn, peas and carrots in Mexico, but if they do, this place is authentic. read more

I finally tried this place after moving into the neighborhood, great location for us, within walking distance. I'm sad to say I probably won't be going back, the service was just that bad. Strong drinks and id give the food a standard rating, but we had trouble with communication with our server in that he had trouble understanding our drink orders if we ordered anything other than beer (my order was a vodka soda with lemon) and so he gave us wrong drinks and would give the wrong drink to the wrong person. For one round, he took our order for another round, and we didn't see him for another 30 minutes. When he finally came around we asked him about the drink, and he went to go get it from the bar (which it had been made when we ordered and was just sitting there for 30 minutes because he forgot to bring it). It was very watered down, and when we tried to tell him this, he basically disagreed with us and then from there had a very negative attitude toward us the rest of the time. After finishing the last drinks we wanted to check out and he was again gone for another 30 minutes. For reference, this was a slow weekday, maybe a total of 5 other tables in there. When we finally saw him again, he had a very standoffish attitude and wasn't speaking to us, it was difficult trying to pay and get out of there, just a lot of uncomfortable tension as we were leaving. Food was horrible all fatty meat and greasy. Elotes were runny no flavor and tasted like canned corn. Service took forever and to be seated was awhile wait when there were several seats open. The table wasn't properly cleaned or sanitized. Drinks were not strong, sugary. Waste of $60 bucks. read more

The tacos live up to the name of the place, tiny tortillas that taste like you microwaved them for too long. Very tiny amount of meat and portions including the small quarter piece limes. On the bright side it has an amazing view and their mango jalapeño margarita are subpar. read more

I'm really glad to have this place in the neighborhood! They have a beer garden set up with a bunch of picnic tables in Lakeshore East Park. (Before 3 PM the beer garden serves food from Eggys diner- same owners). I appreciated that some tables have umbrellas for extra shade. I had the blueberry margarita- it was delicious and had real blueberries in it. We each ordered 3 tacos for lunch. My favorite was the fried fish taco- the fish was crispy and flavorful. I also really enjoyed the veggie taco. I love how spaced out the picnic tables are. All staff members wore masks and they reminded guests to wear masks when not seated. Restrooms are available inside of the Gordo's restaurant (formerly Mezcalina). read more

We went here to relax after watching our niece run the Chicago Marathon. We had tacos, nachos, and burritos, which were all great. The margaritas were killer - so good we had to have two! Hand made, not out of a machine! Friendly staff as well. Highly recommend! read more

I like the restaurant however there is a light out in the ladies room that has been out for at least, 2 months, still hasn't been fixed. Every time I go there, I have to ask them for simple things they should be aware of, especially with a large group, plates, napkins, larger containers of salsa! I had a strawberry margarita and I don't know what they put in it, it didn't taste anywhere close to a strawberry margarita, drinks have very strange flavors, not good. The staff is always nice and the food is good but they need some improvement. read more

I usually don't write reviews unless food and service is excellent or ridiculously subpar. The service at this place was absolutely awful. Considering the crowd and volume of people there's no reason that the service on food and attentiveness was so poor. When we did bring the issue to the waiter he was argumentative and dismissive. When I then brought the issue to the hostess she was even more dismissive and argumentative, and did not want to let me speak with the manager. There were 10 of us in the party and nobody had a correct order. I never did get to speak to the manager. I will never come back again. read more

I ordered take out tonight and was NOT disappointed. The tiny juicy steak taco on a corn tortilla was delicious with lime wedges and two sauces accompanying it. The guacamole and chips were a nice side dish. The guacamole was smooth and could have used some salt but overall I was very happy with my choices. Incredible experience. This place has new management and they are very accommodating! we rented the backyard and had a blast! I liked it so much I had another event there and ordered drinks and appetizers for our club at Chicago Booth! We had 85-100 people there (in the backyard which is an open space) and it was excellent! Hate to give a bad review but we were there Labor Day weekend 2021 and there were actually two birds flying around the inside of the restaurant. I understand that birds find their way into places from time to time but the restaurants handling of it was what bothered me. When we walked in we took a high table next to a large window. Quickly we realized that there were at least two birds trapped inside the restaurant. Of course birds naturally gravitate towards windows. One of the chairs that was sitting unoccupied by the window had at least three spots of bird poop on it. The birds were continually flying above us and feathers were slowly falling down. We asked to move, which the waiter graciously allowed us to. When we moved to the other table another family said that they had also done the same thing. What happened next is what really bothered me... they cleaned the bird poop table we were at and reset it!! Another couple moved in and was quickly as disgusted as us. Obviously birds carry germs and no one wants feathers and poop in their food. All they needed to do was leave the window seats unset but they ignored the health concern and reset it after two families already complained. Gross. read more

The heart and soul is definitely in this taco bar! My boyfriend and I drove into Chicago today and checked in around 8, we arrived close to closing time at Gordo's tacos and had the best time. We were ordering take out since it was late and they welcomed us in with their new kicker margarita and offered us a table instead! The guacamole was outstanding and super fresh. Yikes! My friends & I went to this place last night since we were close by & never again. The margaritas were very good, I'll give them that. My friend & I ordered enchiladas, and inside the tortillas were just whole pieces of chicken, not shredded, not good. The steak burrito was majority beans and guacamole- don't put that as a filler if you can't afford to put more steak in there. It looked nauseating. Nachos had peas in them? & there was red throw up all over the toilet in the women's bathroom. Should have taken the throw up as a sign to leave. Service 3/10, they were too busy serving people outside. Anyway.. go else where :) read more

This place was going to be my new neighborhood "go to" but they have just lost me as a customer- this was my 3rd visit in the last 2 weeks and they decide to charge a $20 cork fee- I ordered a picture of margaritas and brought my own bottle of wine and glass and corkscrew- Same as the last times I came. Response was - all restaurants charge a cork fee- umm we are in a gravel lot next to the park- not a normal restaurant- and surely not worthy of a $20 cork fee. read more

I would definitely eat there again and encourage people to check it out even if you don't live in the area. They have a terrific outside space and a darling Christmas shop to enjoy too!! The empanadas are great! I wasn't pleased with the steak taco but the chicken taco was wonderful! The salsa and chips were fantastic!
