So I've been here several times and I've never been disappointed. I don't understand how they provide such quality food for the price they charge, but in my opinion, they knock other Ithaca sandwich shops out of the park, especially by means of simplicity and speed. The pulled pork is amazing and affordable (other places around here treat it like gold) and their salads are delicious. The dressing seems to be homemade. I'd recommend the bahn mi sub, or one of their vegetarian items. The Seitan is very yummy. This place is one of my favorites. read more

Extremely tasty. I got the $7 lunch special of 1/2 sub (I got mushroom swiss I think it was called) a salad (I got the soy ginger), and a drink. I replaced meat on both salad and sub with seitan, because I'm vegetarian. Sub was insanely tasty, both filling, cheese, and the bread was perfect. Salad was also great, and a nice compliment. This place is amazing! The minute you walk in you feel so welcome. The decor is warm and funky, and the people who work here are friendly, funny, positive. Now to the food: everything we have tried (we live in town) has been fantastic. They make their own bread for starters, and it is sooo good. Great new place! Stopped in without the highest expectations and was really impressed with the subs. The rolls are awesome and the ingredients seem to be of pretty high quality. Subs were definitely tasty and filling. I'm excited to have an option other than ShortStop when I'm in the mood for a sandwich or salad! Gorgers is lucky that I'm a vegetarian with a weakness for Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteaks. The only vegetarian option was a hummus sandwich, which just really doesn't sound very satisfying. I am just now learning (from other reviews) that you can sub eggplant for meat in any of the sandwiches. I would say to the owners, if you want your business to survive at all, this needs to be heavily advertised all over the shop. There are lots of hungry vegetarians in Ithaca and they would love to try your tasty sandwich creations without the meat. The sandwich I had was quite delicious. I would say the bread was the best part, and I don't mean for that to take away from the quality of the sandwich's contents, because they were very tasty too. I mean that the bread was outstanding and I got the impression that they were making it there. I might suggest using your talent for bread to try to break a hole in the monopoly that Ithaca Bakery has on local bread products. The bread was fresh and soft, but sturdy enough that the sandwich didn't fall apart, and the second half was not gross and soggy the next day after being in the fridge. These sandwiches could compete with Shortstop's any day, and I don't say that lightly. I also saw someone getting an order of fries and the portion was enormous and they looked delicious. They were serving Guinness Cheddar soup, which smelled amazing, but I knew I'd be in the car later and so chose not to get it. I've walked by other days and it seems like the soup is one of their strengths. So the food is worth it. Most of my complaints/suggestions about this place have to do with the restaurant setup. When I opened the door, I couldn't walk inside because the line for the register was directly in front of the door. And there were only two people in line. The register should not be right in front of the door. They also don't have tables, just a counter against one wall. I know they spent time redesigning and renovating this place, and I find it hard to believe that this is what they came up with for the setup. It does not seem like they want you to eat there. So maybe takeout/delivery is the way to go for these sandwiches. I'm a little worried for these guys, as it seems like that is somewhat of a cursed location for new restaurants, but if they can step it up with the vegetarian options, promote their amazing sandwich bread, and maybe reconsider some of their interior design there will be hope for this new Ithaca sandwich shop. read more

These guys are doing it right. Fresh ingredients, homemade everything. Seriously, they seem to make every sauce from scratch. And the bread is baked throughout the day. Serious thumbs up. Yelp has been shaking these guys down for money and deleting their positive reviews. There are many fans of this place. It's not corporate. Sandwiches take about 4 minutes. I have loved Gorgers since the first time I've stepped my foot in the door. I have been saying for a while now that Ithaca needs a fresh, unique sandwich shop and this has been perfect. All of their subs are delicious! They use the most local, and freshest ingredients when possible and you can taste the difference! The homemade sub rolls are delicious, and add a perfect pairing to the unique sandwich combinations. I also love that if you chat with the guys, they will help you develop your own sandwich, suited to your needs. The soups, unique french fries, hummus, and sweet potato fries are also delectable additions, if you have the room or are sharing. All of the food is definitely "meal + next meal (leftovers)", which for the prices, cannot be beat in Ithaca! I love that the place is so popular at lunch time to everyone from college kids to professionals. The decor is young and fresh, which is great to have in Ithaca but it complements the feel of the food as well as the service. My boyfriend and I go there very regularly and now are "recognized" faces, which is always awesome- especially when it means occasional kick-backs (!) I have nothing bad to say about this place and I highly recommend it- the guys will even deliver your food themselves. Ithaca has needed a place like this for a while, and I am happy to say that Ithaca and Gorgers are a perfect fit. read more

Gorgers is definitely my favorite place for food in Ithaca. All their food is delicious, they make a lot of the ingredients themselves, whether its the bread, or the seitan, or the sauces, wowee it is good. They're also very accommodating, so, say if you want half a sandwich instead of a whole, they'll hook you up. Want your sandwich to be super spicy? They've got you covered. Want to substitute some ingredients? There shouldn't be a need to do so, but they'll do it for you anyway. Because I'm generally not a fan of fried eggplant, I used to substitute seitan for eggplant in their vegetarian sandwiches, but then one day I tasted it and I have to say they do a great job with their eggplant and I really enjoy getting that in my sandwiches now. Sometimes I get so swept up in how great their sandwiches are that I forget that they've got some great soup options too. And their fries are definitely the best bang for your buck that I've had in terms of fries in this area. Again, I should say that while the food enough is deserving of a good review, they are also just great at customer service too. Don't get me wrong, it is a chill place and this is not a full-service spot by any means, its a sandwich shop, but they've won my loyalty. Also, my favorite sandwich has to be the Caribbean Fire. EXCELLENT!! Just south of Cayuga lake right in the center of town with ample street parking (meter) and lot right next door. We were driving 4 hours north and very hungry and were not disappointed. My friend had pulled pork which was very flavorful, spicy and moist. Huge homemade sub roll and fresh cilantro on top. I had Chipotle Bacon salad which was delicious. Inhaled it. Bacon tasted like it was grilled over open fire. Black beans did too and a touch of chipotle heat , fresh romaine and cheddar. Washed it down with Morrocan Mint ice tea. We're going back on our return home. This is a grab and go place but there are a few tables and barstools. read more

A coworker and I ordered from Gorgers for lunch last week. I was pretty unimpressed by their lack of vegetarian options but opted for the Pittsburgh Vegan, even though the description didn't seem like my cup of tea. Boy was I wrong, and glad of it. First of all, the sandwich was ENORMOUS for the price, and the bread... Obviously fresh baked and to die for. Sweet potato fries, fresh veggies, and a red wine reduction, ah-maz-ing. It wasn't the prettiest sandwich in the world but it was delicious. Another (also vegetarian) coworker saw me eating it and begged for a taste. She was blown away as well. The local delivery (on longboard) by one of the owners was a humbling plus and he was super friendly. We spoke briefly about meat substitutes and he was more than willing to amend the menu/add to it if we wanted them to cater an event for us. HIGHLY recommended. Don't pass this place by! 4 stars for now until I try a few more menu items (and I will). read more

Holy delicious! Stopped in after a hike based on a quick yelp search. I really think it was the best sandwich I've ever had. I had the Bahn Mi on flatbread and my husband had the Cuban. Owners are nice and easy to talk to and are happy to answer any questions. I should also note that orders get served quickly and are cooked right in front of you. Ate at Gorgers for the first time yesterday. Everything tasted great. Had Bahn Mi Vietnamese style sandwich, french fries (fresh cut and well-seasoned), and tomato bisque soup. Great food and great service. It's not lightning quick service, but food is made freshly, so it can only be so quick. Suggestions: more fresh and whole food options, more fruits and vegetables. Whole wheat for flatbread or rolls should be available. Too often new eating establishments don't offer whole grains because of the extra cost, stocking issues, and lower demand in comparison to refined grain products, which are terrible for you. Any half-health conscious person is aware of the problems associated with refined white grains. Get good volume of sales and whole grain isn't a problem (e.g. Shortstop has whole wheat, so does Subway). If Subway does whole grain, they'll get that business. I'd rather see it go to Gorgers. read more

We got a sub and were able to share it and fries between two of us. They happily made up some seitan to substitute for the meat option (they will do it for any sub, seitan or eggplant, though its a bit confusing) and it was awesome. The portion was generous and tasted really good. The fries were also good. It was generally really affordable, too. The seating is a bit odd, though--just a long counter against the wall...no tables so it's more of a take out or a lunch place. read more

I have had three sandwiches at Gorgers so far. Each one has been great! I love that there are vegetarian options for everything. The banh mi made with seitan is really delicious. The staff are friendly and informative. I walked right by Gorgers for a few weeks, not going in because it looked so dark inside. They have the freshest sandwiches. The bread at gorgers is incredible and they have so many wonderful choices. I have tried at least half the menu and I haven't met a sub I didn't like. They also have a different soup everyday (there are often vegan soups available). Also their pita and humus is phenomenal. I think the best this about gorgers is its owners. They are so passionate. Every time I go in they are experimenting with something new whether it is homemade chai, spicy pickles, or some new soup. read more
