Very solid corner store that makes some pretty good sandwiches. I came here with lofty expectations after what I had heard from other people, but I can't say that those expectations were met. I've been here twice now - I got pulled pork (pictured below) and BBQ chicken. There is no seating, so this is naturally a takeout type restaurant. Service was quick and prices were fair (8 inch subs are roughly $10 and 12 inches is roughly $15, depending on what you get in the sub). Taste was good, but not great. Presentation really isn't their forte, but that is alright. I prefer DiBella's subs in a vacuum, but they've got their own issues of their own. The pork was well-seasoned, but the whole package just didn't seem to come together and deliver something that is truly rememberable. This place has incredible potential to be top dog. They have an ideal location, space and opportunity. It was really confusing when walking in and not knowing how to order. The lay out is a bit odd. It would be awesome if there were seating inside and out. Maybe side countertops in the front so people can fill out the slips to order. We ordered two sandwiches cheesy bread and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese and chili were self-serve and it was not the greatest. It was more like cheesy mush. The sandwiches were okay. I expected it to be better. The lighting in there is pretty dull and the ambiance definitely needs to improve. It doesn't seem like the staff is happy, which is kind of a downer. Every once in a while, I decide to give it another try, in hopes that they have gotten their act together, but every time I do, I'm very disappointed. One thing you can count on - your sandwich bread will be stale! Just want to relate my most recent tale of woe - I used the online order form to order a BLT, you know, that old American standard, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato, right? In the app, you can choose things to add to the sandwich, so I added spinach, black olives and Italian Dressing. Guess what I got? A B sandwich - that's right, just B, no L and no T. A dry sandwich consisting of bacon, spinach, black olives. And that's it. No lettuce, no tomato and no Italian dressing. Yuck. And as usual, the bread was stale. I decided to write them an email, describing the situation so they could make it right, or at least apologize. Crickets! So that is why I have written this review. read more

It's 5 stars because it's a faithful bearer of Bob's Hot Truck. The PMP, WGC, and the whole collection is still just as good as I remember from 2am on west campus 30 years ago. We stopped by for a sandwich this evening after having this sub shop recommended to us. The ordering process was unique. You fill out a selection sheet and hand it to the person behind the counter. It seemed like a name should be added to this sheet if multiple people are waiting for their sub as it can get confusing when you pick up your order. I was hoping for a double meat sandwich, but was told that wasnt possible. I ended up going with a double with turkey and salami. It took quite a while to have my sub made and it was not that busy. The flavor of the sub was good. The bread was nice and soft. Overall quality of the ingredients was above average. I would return to this location and try another sandwich in the future. read more

What a delicious treat. We came in for graduation and stumbled across Shortstop Deli. A large selection of sandwiches, from hot to cold. I ordered a Turkey sandwich, flesh sliced pickles, provolone, spicy peppers, pickles and everything in it was sliced fresh. It's not a sit down and eat place. They have counters you stand at and eat but it's a great in and out place. Most def one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. My buddy had the hot Ruben and it was the same thing. Reasonable price, delicious subs, and friendly staff, plus 24-hour operation, what else I should ask for? I finished my breakfast/brunch around 10:45 am, had some ice cream after that, and came here before 1:00 pm because I couldn't help but think about this place. Their slogan, "Ithaca-style deli", is so catchy and alluring, and two benches outside the store where you can sit down and relax - without tables - are new and interesting to me. I told myself: I gotta give this place a shot while I'm here; who knows when is my next visit? Once I entered the store, I could tell it is at its rush hours. 4 or 5 workers were busy fulfilling orders and checking people out, a couple folks were waiting for their orders, another crowd were eating next to the kitchen, and a few people were filling out order sheets. Here's how things work here (the black guy patiently answered my questions): fill out the order sheets (they have 3 different order sheets, I remember, for pizza subs, sandwiches and other subs, and something else I didn't look) with your customization, give the top sheet to the kitchen staff and white sheet underneath to the cashiers, and wait patiently for your goodies to come. Of course you can add drinks while checking out, or grab some snacks on the shelves next to the kitchen. I ordered one regular-size WGC pizza sub, which is their PMP pizza sub, or tomato sauce and mozzarella, on homemade garlic bread, with no meat but mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce, and onions inside, plus garlic and truck sauce (chipotle mayo) as condiments. They did what I asked to put the sauce in a side cup, which was sweet. The pizza sub came out to be amazingly good. First of all, the portion was generous to the price of $6.75. The regular size is like a foot-long subway (maybe a bit longer?), but definitely more stuffed and satisfying. The bread was so crunchy outside and had a lovely garlic aroma. The inside was cheesy, tomato-y, and moist. The raw onions, lettuce (added after toasting), and garlic added more texture to the bread so that it was not boring at all. I finished half of it within a second, but had to stop myself because it was already carbs-and-fat overloaded today. The only downside was the long wait. I waited for almost 15 minutes after I gave them the forms. And I guess the average wait is about 10 - 15 minutes, because they make everything after you place your order. I sat on the bench outside. It was damn hot like 85 degree, but I was so happy and definitely recommend it to anyone who stops by Ithaca. read more

For many years, the very first stop when I went home to Ithaca was to Shortstop Deli for the best sandwich I could get anywhere. I would feel giddy as I opened the paper wrapping on my precious beauty. We would make our last stop on the way out of Ithaca to fill our cooler for a happy meal on the road, with cookies and chips and love. I had heard rumors but refused to believe that the sandwiches that were consistently amazing for more than 20 years were no longer. Yet the rumors were true. The bread is still delicious and perfect for an amazing sandwich. The filling was sparse. Little meat, less vegetables. I couldn't taste the condiments at all. It's now just a sandwich. Just like what you can get out of a gas station. I guess all amazing things come to an end, but I am sure sorry that this was one. Goodbye Shortstop. I absolutely loved it here! Ended up in Ithaca STARVING at midnight and very few places were open. Decided to give this a place a shot and so glad I did! I ended up getting the meatball single sub, I added the pizza sauce, mozzarella, cucumbers and onions on a toasted French roll and it was so good! I love their pizza sauce! It's super tangy and unique, all my friends agreed that we loved this sauce. The meatballs were good, the bread was great quality. Definitely would order again. I got the meatball sub, a cookie, a medium soda, and Mac and cheese for $11! Such a good deal. The Mac and cheese wasn't really good but I still give this place five stars because the deli really is good quality ingredients and very enjoyable. The atmosphere was also perfect.
