3/12/2025 Gormans Furniture delivered our leather recliner. We ordered the recliner end of Jan 2025 and it arrived just as ordered. We were wanting a smaller, less bulky recliner for our upstairs bedroom and this style fit our needs. The craftsmanship seems to be well made, great quality and the pricing was a bit on the higher side. I decided to stop here to see if I might be able to find a bedframe that would be reasonable and decently priced. The last time I went to this store was at the Novi location. Our whole living room set and dining room set is from there. Not exactly the most cheap place or low end. Let's see what we can find today. Nancy greeted me at the front door. She asked me what I was looking for and I told her a bedframe. She told me that there's displays set up all around the store and to feel free to look around. I perused around the store looking at every bed and the location. I only saw a couple beds that were of interest to me. I finally went back and looked for Nancy and asked her if she had any darker finished wood bed frames. She flipped her page and I noticed that they had a lift bed available. Interestingly enough we've been looking at lift beds for the last couple weeks now. This is the first time I am seeing it at a store other than IKEA. The bed I picked out by Durham with the Soma wood finish came to just under $3700. With the current discount from 40% to 70% off it would be $2,771. It's made of solid wood and I picked a simple wood panel board as well as footboard. It also has solid wood bed rails. The lift itself is a steel metal frame. There's a $99 delivery charge. Their delivery workers and staff will install and unpack the bed frame for us. The lift bed allows for storage underneath the bed, and the metal steel frame will provide the appropriate support for the mattress. And no longer requires the boxspring. Nancy said it could take about a week before she gets word from the warehouse on when the bed will be available for delivery. She said it could take up to 12 weeks to get the bed, but she would know more when she hears from the warehouse. She will let me know in a week or so and text me an ETA. No contact after two weeks about my delivery date. I had to reach out to the store to find out for myself after a few weeks after my purchase and no calls. The customer service was already tepid up until the sale was in the bag and papers were signed. Not what I was expecting for a more expensive store and definitely not the same level of customer service as what I received from their Novi location. I suppose I should have gone back to their Novi location since I have always had better customer service and experience there than I did at the Troy location. No word after 3 weeks about timing for my lift bed delivery, yet I received a text from the sales woman asking to leave her a review after a week. Does she really think she's going to get a glowing review without following-up with me and letting 3 weeks go by without any information about my order or any timing updates at all. It feels like good customer service is now become more of an exception rather than a rule. Follow-up and follow through should be a rule and not an exception in this or any service industry. I spoke with Delora at the billing or main desk area. She said Nancy is usually good about following up with her customers. She gave me the latest ETA for delivery for end of April. Who knew it would take 3 months to get a Wood Lift bed. I received a thank you card from my sales rep, Nancy P. Over a month after purchase. I kind of felt bothered that she has asked for a survey and now this empty thank you card to me. It feels very much like her going through her normal process or motions as the role of a sales woman at this point. A call or text to let me know what I could expect my ordered bed is all I cared about. If you want to know anything about your delivery, best to reach out them, as they would likely not have contacted me until it was due for delivery and to collect the other half of the dues. I paid half the day of the purchase, and I will pay the other half the day before it gets delivered I finally got a call by end of March that my bed was in stock and ready to be delivered and assembled. I spoke with Shelly. She and I arranged payment for the other half of the statement ahead of delivery for the first week in April. The bed took about 10 weeks to come in for delivery. Does that mean my bed is newly built then. I put the order in on January 21st. I got a call a few days prior to the delivery date that gave me a 3 hour window, 8AM to 11AM. The delivery was the easiest part of the entire experience. Called me about 10-15 before coming to the house. They were in and out in less than 40 minutes. The new lift pad goes up quite easily from the metal frame. It definitely takes much more force and energy to drop the bed back down. The color matches the existing dresser and bedroom set in the spare bedroom perfectly. I do like the simplicity of the headboard. Hopefully won't bed lifting and dropping the bed too often. read more

While I didn't end up buying anything here, I will be back to refurnish a family room and bedroom in the future. This level of service is something of a bygone era. The product I purchased was a 2 sliding door Curio cabinet. It was a total disaster. There were no warnings posted in the contract that had limited weight restriction warnings on it, nor did the sales person mention anything about shelf weight warnings because, my guess is that she works mostly on commission and did not wan to lose a sakes commission. Anway when it was delivered and put together, I put my items in it. A few days later, it collapsed. The service department manager came out and basically said he could not do anything about the cabinet. Company would not even offer me any discount whatsoever. Buy the way. If you want to contact the BBB about them, don't bother. There is a clause in this organization that says you can't complain about buyers' remorse, so they can't help you. Most items are based on this fact. You can just do a review as I'm doing now. Please know a lot about the piece if furniture you want to buy before purchasing anything from them. They are only interested in getting their money and running as fast as they can from you. read more

I have been to several furniture stores before Gorman's over the last few years and I always left feeling like they wanted to much for not great quality. I was recommended to come here by my aunt when I expressed how depressing it was looking for decent quality furniture. I found it, and at a better price than I had in mind. Hella expensive with mostly traditional styles! This store could transplant into Birmingham without flinching. I think it caters to an older wealthier demographic but they did have some beautiful pieces.The saleswoman was polite and didn't hover or push but as we walked through their store we just didn't see a lot of furniture that had a younger vibe to it. Maybe worth a looksee but don't be surprised if you see a more clunky traditionally inspired style of furniture. read more

I am so disappointed in Gorman's! Our furniture will be two years old in June. It looks like we have had it for 20 years! After a month it looked terrible! I called, they sent a person to look at it. He said well you picked out a light color and the material is like Velcro! What??? Why would there be material like Velcro and the sales person recommended it! Well back and forth then Covid! Pros: Great selection and quality. If there is an issue the repair personnel are masters at their craft and very professional. One of the chairs did not work properly and the repair person came out assess the issue first and then ordered all of the parts necessary to fix the chair. They unlike so many furniture stores actually had items in stock to choose from. This was very helpful because I did not want to wait an entire year to get something. Cons: My designer/sales persons was not knowledge of the furniture options. I purchased leather recliners that she said I could use with a battery pack, however on the afternoon before delivery she informed me that the furniture was not compatible with the battery packs. I asked for alternative furniture options and she told me she was busy but would send them later. This was frustrating since I had scheduled a day off work for delivery and now I didn't know what if anything would be delivered. Since then she has informed me that the manufacturer had not updated their info and the set IS compatible with the battery packs. I don't know what to believe at this point and doubt I will spend $2000 on something that may or may not work. read more

Walked in the door knowing exactly what I was looking for- a high quality brown leather couch with a more contemporary "weathered" look to it. The older lady helping me attempted to sell me multiple items that were nowhere close to what I had described, and when I'd politely tell her it wasn't quite what I was looking for, I was told "Wow, you really are picky, aren't you?" The most aggravating furniture buying experience ever. After sitting with the sales person for well over an hour I realize the models she's selling us on does not come in the size we need. Come back a few days later and start the process all over again. Pick out a sofa style color fabric et al. Three weeks later she calls back to tell us the sofa only comes with 2 pillows and not the four we ordered so an additional two pillows is an upcharge. She then tells us that because of her oversight the sofa is not on order so add an additional three weeks. The options are fewer with the demise of Art Van but this is the last time Im dealing with Gormans. read more

I purchased an extremely expensive reclining couch and chair. Salesperson was great. There was a sign at the entrance about a sale but was told my purchase did not qualify. When they delivered the furniture they did not call ahead saying they were on their way. My time frame was 11-2. They arrive about 1:50. The chair was torn on the bottom. Service contacted me to repair. Again told to hold the day and would get a call the day before with a time frame. Finally was told morning. I value my time. read more

Went to Gormans in October looking for a new couch. We knew the wait times were going to be long due to delivery, as this was everywhere we were looking. When we went to Gormans we were told if we wanted furniture sooner to look in their back area, as this was where the couches that were available in their warehouse. We chose a couch based on the sales woman telling us it would be available November 13. This would have been one month from purchase in October. It is now December 15 and we still have no couch. I am not upset at the delivery time. I am upset that we were told specifically to look at a selection of couches that would have been in their warehouse. I feel that we were lied to in order to gain a sale. We are very disappointed in Gormans and will not be recommending it to family or friends. read more

After months of going back and forth and looking for a replica bed, we decided to stop by the Gormans in Troy. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent service. From the moment we walked in we were greeted. Judy was helping us, along with the store manager, who went above and beyond to find the bed, that we loved at the Novi location. The in store purchase was smooth, the delivery and quality of the furniture is absolutely above our expectations. This place looks like a mini warehouse of furniture. It is thrown together without any design or staging elements. Like any warehouse, they have a large showroom of everything that is American traditional. The staff is knowledgeable about pieces and there is quite a selection of all furniture pieces. I'd give Gorman's, Troy Michigan location zero stars if I could. The incompetence and unscrupulous behavior of the So called Designer/Sales Person Colleen whose incompetence and dishonest behavior has caused a great deal of harm and stress to me will not be soon forgotten. In a nutshell, I ordered a Bernhardt chair in January of this year with specific instructions on color, fabric and nailhead trim. Texting Colleen as well with my specific choices. Fast forward in June the chair was delivered and was not at all what I ordered and purchased. I immediately texted Colleen letting her know that the chair delivered was not what I ordered and to make arrangements to pick it up. I also followed up with a call leaving a voicemail on the store's phone. Colleen did call me back that day and stated that the mistake was not hers or the store's but blamed it on Bernhardt and stated and I quote "I contacted Bernhardt directly and they have acknowledged it was their mistake and they would make it right and to keep the chair and do whatever I wanted with it". I questioned her and asked was she sure about this and she stated "yes". I got rid of the chair because of what she told me. If I had known I would have recorded the call. Fast forward to today, Gormans has failed to turn this situation around and it appears they taking Colleen's word over mine that she never told me to donate the chair or otherwise and the Manager, Jeff has refused to refund me the money or reorder the chair in the color and fabric I chose when this horrible saga began. Please avoid this store at all costs! read more

High end furniture company with a high end furniture lines and price point to match. I do have to say though that I am always taken aback when I am shopping at a store and the customer is treated as if I am being done a favor by the store employees. On a recent visit I had to seek someone to assist me with pricing on pieces we had been in more than once to look at. These pieces are not marked. Again, you are not doing me a favor to assist me with pricing on a piece of furniture that I would like to purchase from your establishment. Unfortunately we were moving and the order turnaround time was insufficient to place an order for these pieces and we will need to do it from our new home rather than there but the truth is had the service been more conducive when we began looking, it would have been a sale for Gorman's. read more

Gormans furniture is a high end store, with high price points but the worst customer service. In 2016, the Gormans process reminds you of the days you kept a dime in your pocket in case you needed to make a pay phone call home. My wife and I relocated to MI and needed to furnish a new home. We ordered furniture in November of 2015 and are just now Feb 2016 receiving some of the items. Our couch, ordered at the end of November 2015 will not be delivered until the END of APRIL 2016. Apparently they had to rear the cow from whose hide the couch is made. Hey it's great place if you enjoy all communications by mail (yes your updates come vis usps), if you enjoy paying thousands of dollars for furniture that is made so slowly and delivered only when you call Gormans to demand delivery. Gormans is great for those fans of the old Sears Catalogue, where you can experience the little house on the prairie effect of ordering stuff that takes so long you forgot what it looks like. I got a call Thursday saying my furniture would be delivered on Friday between 4pm and 7pm. I states to the representative that the time was kind late but it was fine. It's now 7:17pm, my furniture has not been delivered and today is my birthday and I cancelled my dinner plans today to get my furniture. And of course..customer service is closed...this is unacceptable. read more

I was looking for a designer and what a mistake coming in to this store. First of all, the sales people just stared at me and didn't even ask if I needed help. Connie helped us today select furniture that will meet our needs since our upholsterer ran off with our sofa and chairs. Found some lovely Stickley pieces with a plethora of fabrics that match our living room color- a dark pumpkin. The designer will come out and help select pieces that will fit the area and develop a pattern for the furniture. I am delighted and relieved as living without furniture has been difficult. Lead time is the typical 8 to 12 weeks but I can live with that. The quality is there and although I am not a big fan of today's furniture look aka oversized, we were able to find pieces that we can graciously live with as we put on a few more years. read more

I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO MISTREATED IN MY WHOLE LIFE! My mom & I were moving into a new place so we decided to get a good dining table. We went to Gorman's and found a dining table that we really liked. We were able to make a down payment of $1100 & came to the decision of when the table would be delivered. We were told that the table was in stock & the delivery would not be a problem. Since my mom works all day & I am currently a college student, we emphasized the fact that it was important for the delivery to come before noon because that was the only time my mom would be able to stay at home for the delivery and go to work later. We decided on a specific day the table would come with an employee and eventually everything was settled. After we finally moved, we were confused when our dining table did not arrive and we didn't receive a call or an e-mail from Gorman's. My mom called them and the person who answered the phone told her that she didn't know why it didn't come and she wasn't very polite about it at all. Apparently she told my mom that she would call her back, but she never did. We drove over to the store during the weekend. My mom explained the situation about how we ordered a table but it never came. An employee said, "We don't know when it's supposed to come." I replied, "But we discussed it when we were here and we got a delivery date." The man shrugged, which really pissed me off. "The delivery date is just an estimation and we don't know when they're going to deliver it to you." I was completely dumbfounded by this horribly stupid idea. They did NOT say anything about the delivery date being an estimation and not the official date when we were there ordering the table. Something like this had never happened before when we had ordered furniture from different places in the past. How could they print us a receipt with the "delivery date" when it wasn't supposed to be the actual delivery date? The manager brought us inside his office, but it didn't fix anything. All he said was "uh huh" after every single line my mom spoke without really acknowledging what she was saying and it appeared very ignorant. He did not look like he wanted to help us at all and just wanted to get rid of us and get our money. At first he said that if we returned the table, they would take 35% of the down payment and give the rest to us, but later he changed his words and said that we would only be given 35% of it. When we pointed out how he changed his words, he denied it. It was unprofessional and once again, I was dumbfounded. My mom has an accent when speaking English because it is not her first language and it seemed like he along with the lady at the counter were looking down on her for that. They weren't being verbally racist, but it still felt like we were being discriminated. Anyway, since no one at the store knew when the table would get delivered and my mom didn't like the customer service, she decided that it would be best for us to return the table. However, they said that we would have to pay for 20% of the table, which was slightly more that $500 while the table was almost $2000. During that whole returning procedure, the lady at the counter was still being very rude. She was talking back to my mom even though as an employee, you should always keep your personal feelings to yourself. But no, this lady was extremely mean and the manager had to be the one to step in to stop her. He would say, "Just stay quiet. Don't say anything." I wanted to laugh at how ridiculous the whole thing was, but obviously no laughter escaped from me since I was boiling w/ anger inside. Even if the table at Gorman's was supposed to come later due to it being made & shipped from somewhere else, they should have informed us about it beforehand when we were talking about the delivery date for 30 minutes! And since they did not tell us about it, they shouldn't have been so rude to us when we entered their store. We probably would have been okay with the table not being delivered if they were nice to us & agreed how it was their faults for not explaining it since the policy wasn't even written on paper, but they didn't apologize and they didn't give a shit so that's why we we returned the table. If I had encountered only one rude employee at Gorman's, I would have understood because no matter where you go, there's always one person who sticks out. However, the manager (a man who seemed to be in his 60s) was also very rude when he is clearly an adult who is old enough to know how to be nice to people and treat them equally like others. It seemed like the employees around him were a pack of wolves defending their alpha against a small family of mice who wanted to negotiate the situation in a peaceful way. They didn't try to understand our point of view & only cared about what they had to say and were hiding their mistakes together. This place doesn't deserve your money & they don't deserve good customers w/ the poor service they offer. read more
