You don't expect Great sushi in the most random hole in the wall with liquor store fridges lined against the wall but it is THAT good! expect to pay a couple hundred per person and order off a hand written menu white board without prices. Biggest tip: make reservations - he will turn you away without reservations as he will only take enough people for him to manage serving (happened to be 4 people at lunch on a weekday)

As Japanese as this gets. Omakase only, orange painted walls, nothing but the low sounds of the radio playing "Genie in a Bottle" and a counter for only 8 people. Got's Mart is run by Chef Kawano and his wife and that's the way they like it. One thing that stood out to me from the different omakases was that the ingredients would be the same, but the fish type was different. It was such an interesting take on how different flavors of the fish can impact the overall taste, even though it may have the same toppings. This is not a place for ambience, but definitely a place to get some high-quality sushi. 20 pieces of sushi, 1 sashimi, 2 little dishes = $325 including tax and tip.

Amazing sushi, best that I've had in USA! Intimate setting, not many seats, which makes it even more unique. Grade A service & super high quality sushi.

Have been wanting to check this hole in the wall sushi place out for a very long time, and finally had the chance to the other night. The restaurant itself is quite small, and a little run down, but has an intimate feel as part of an outdoor strip mall. Once inside, I immediately began to realize I was about to embark on a delicious sushi journey with my friends! We were greeted by the owner and his wife, who prepared and served us the most delightful omakase dishes with great pride. Absolutely loved the concept of not having to look at a menu, but rather have sushi and sashimi served one after the other at the chef's discretion. All the fish tasted very fresh and some were very pretty in presentation. If you're looking to have great quality sushi without having to sit down at a fancy, pretentious restaurant, Go's Mart is the perfect place! I can't wait to go there again someday.

My absolute favorite spot in the valley to grab sushi! Firstly, you must call to make a reservation. No walk-ins allowed. Go's Mart is a hidden gem located in a strip mall with a six-seater sushi counter where the chef prepares the most amazing nigiri, hands down. There are plenty of options to choose from, and I appreciate that he carries fish that most other sushi places do not have. Every piece is expertly cured, cut, and dressed in the best and most unique way possible. I've been here a number of times and have enjoyed various nigiri pieces, but a couple of standouts are: -Kawagishi toro: buttery, melts in your mouth -Seared swordfish: perfectly seared with great texture -Live sweet shrimp: great char, sweet, smoky with a hint of citrus -Japanese scallop: large piece that is simply dressed and topped with either caviar or gold -Hairy crab: slightly sweet and never fishy Don't ask for a California roll; he doesn't have the ingredients and never will. Only real crab, and he won't waste that in a roll. Service is top-notch, and I love supporting a small mom-and-pop sushi spot. In terms of ambiance, the restaurant itself definitely needs an update, but that personally doesn't bother me as I am here for the food. You honestly won't get sushi like this anywhere else. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're in the area!!

Tuna flight

Been meaning to check this place out for years at the recommendation of multiple people saying it's the best sushi in LA. After experiencing it for myself this is now the bar by which I judge all omasake. If you're looking for a fancy dining experience this may not be for you but if you want a sushi adventure that focuses on the food and the conversation you gotta check this place out.

Regarding Enrique's 1 star post: You say there was plenty of tables open and that you weren't allowed in... There is no tables at Go's Mart so that is a lie. There is 8 bar seats and when you walked in without a reservation you may have seen empty seats but they would have been already reserved with people arriving soon. It is the best Sushi you will ever have. I have met people who have gone on sushi tours at the highest end places in Japan who all say that Go's Mart is better than everywhere they went. While yes it is expensive, you get what you pay for and it is in fact the best sushi bar around!

Scallop, uni and caviar mix

Go's Mart is an unassuming spot in Canoga Park, where Chef Go and his wife run a small, no-frills sushi restaurant. While I appreciate the authenticity and dedication to traditional Japanese cuisine, my experience was a mix of highs and lows. Starters: * Spinach and Sesame Seed Salad: A nice, light starter that set the tone for the meal. * Seaweed Salad: Unfortunately, this dish didn't hit the mark for me. The consistency was slightly slimy, making it less pleasing to the palate. Sushi & Sashimi: * Scallop with Uni Sauce: The uni was delicious on its own, but the scallop was unexpectedly crunchy, which detracted from the dish. I would pass on this next time. * Amberjack, Halibut, John Dory, Kelp Halibut: These were the highlights of the evening. The Amberjack, in particular, was unbelievable--melting in your mouth with a perfectly paired herb sauce. A true delight. * Bluefin Tuna, Albacore, Fatty Toro, Fatty Fatty Toro: While the variety of tuna was impressive and flavorful, it wasn't the best I've ever had. Still, it was enjoyable. * Fresh Scallop, Hairy Crab, Sweet Shrimp: Delicious and fresh. The scallop was delicate and soft, so much so that I had seconds. * Geoduck, Baby Squid, Baby Abalone: These were not for me. The texture was too chewy, and the flavors didn't appeal to my taste. Geoduck is an acquired taste that I won't be acquiring, and the baby squid and abalone are dishes I wouldn't miss if I never had them again. * Sockeye Salmon, Smoked Ocean Trout: Paired with a slice of onion, these were very nice, easy on the palate, and well-prepared. The smoked trout was particularly nice. Meat: * Wagyu: The special type of Wagyu served was a nice way to end the savory portion of the meal. It was tender and flavorful. Dessert: * Homemade Hazelnut Gelato with Mango Ice Sorbet and Fresh Fruit: A refreshing and simple way to conclude the meal. The combination was delicious. Atmosphere & Service: The atmosphere at Go's Mart leaves much to be desired. The decor is minimal, and the restaurant could benefit from a deep cleaning, especially around the walls and ceiling. The lack of ambiance was a bit disappointing, as was the seating arrangement. However, Chef Go and his wife are both sweet and hard-working, which adds a personal touch to the dining experience. Pricing: Be prepared to spend a significant amount--our bill came to $700 for two omakase experiences, which included two small bottles of sake and some extra sushi pieces. The omakase itself is a minimum of $250 per person. While the experience was educational in terms of authentic Japanese fish, I personally didn't feel it was worth the price. Final Thoughts: Go's Mart is a small, authentic sushi spot with a few standout dishes. However, given the high price point and lack of atmosphere, I would recommend it only if you are specifically looking to explore traditional Japanese fish varieties and are prepared for the cost. Otherwise, there are other sushi experiences in Los Angeles that offer better value for money.

We have been coming here for years, and consistently always the best sushi! Worth the price for the quality and authenticity! Go and his wife run it together which is also very sweet. Best sushi in LA and I have tried them all! Highly recommend!

Like many other patrons who describe their first experience through word of mouth, I was persuaded by the promise of the secret place in a run-down shopping strip mall. I asked for a reservation on a Saturday evening, and we got a spot! About three weeks ago, I did the same, and they were all booked out, bummer! If you ever experience a mom-and-pop shop similar to that in Japan, this is precisely it! The difference is, you don't need a plane ticket to go there. The place is very small, enough to seat about ten people. Since the dining tables seem to be unset, they all sit in the sushi bar. The walls are bright orange; there are no fancy decorations here, and it is as plain as possible! The chef and his wife run the establishment, and you can tell that they are dedicated to their craft; I wish that in my old age, I could have that special relationship that they are exhibiting. It is a sweet display of love and compassion, and both work together in tandem to create beautiful dishes. About the menu: there is none. There is a whiteboard with some scribbles of sushi dishes and hand rolls. They do not make cut rolls (you have been warned). It's a bit nerve-wrecking; if you are not used to the traditional sushi experience, you will be so out of place here. You just tell the chef when you would like to stop, which would be the end of your culinary journey; there is no menu; you just enjoy the ride. You should know that sushi chef are often very proud, so they might get insulted if you commit the heinous crime of butchering their sushi. - You put only a little wasabi. This will drown out the taste of your fish - You don't mix soy sauce and wasabi, it's disrespectful - You don't drench your sushi in soy sauce. Again, disrespectful However, he will surprise you if you can overcome the awkwardness of talking to the chef and tell him that you are willing to try new things. There are just some fish and shellfish that I have never tried before, and this is all really exciting! The reason for my four-star review: This review is very specific to my taste, so I give it four stars. The chef put a bit too much soy sauce in some of the sushi. I prefer some sushi that is not overly powered by soy sauce. I have had a slightly better and elevated experience, and mind you, this is probably one of the best ones so far! Finally, my spouse and I spent $600.00 total, including tips. Is it worth it? SURE IS. I have experienced better for the price as well. Overall, this is something that you must experience to believe, it is magical in its own right, and for that I thank the chef!

Chef Jae guides you through a thoughtfully crafted $190 18 course "Taste Forest" that's sure to delight. When my husband and I showed up at the neighboring lounge (which does not open before the first Omakase dining slot at 5:30 pm), we weren't quite sure what to expect. When we told them we were there for the Omakase dinner at 5:30 pm, the staff kindly let us in out of the heat while they continued to prepare the space for service in both the lounge and restaurant. They don't have a liquor license so all cocktails are sake-based, but none the less enjoyable. They also offer beer and wine. We were offered a menu while we waited, and yes - any drink you purchase in the lounge may accompany you to your dining experience. You can also add on a sake-pairing to your omakase meal for $55 each. We very much enjoyed a Yuzu Cocktail and the sake pairing. The customer service was fantastic, personable, and filled with intention - but if I were to provide constructive criticism - somewhat clumsy on the delivery. Chef Jae had everyone introduce themselves and included a Chef mentee on finishing up the plating of the sushi. Chef Jae is talkative and clearly enjoys speaking with guests - this all lends itself to the homey feel of the experience - but some staff were so soft-spoken it was difficult to hear them as they introduced our sake pairings, and sometimes the service seemed poorly timed with the courses. I think with a little rehearsal of how they want to approach dinner service (mainly timing, introduction and flow) would provide some more confidence and better execution of the experience they clearly wished to impart. The food was fantastic, and truly felt like a journey. Everything is prepared in house, and of the best quality. My husband and I are sure to be thinking about our experience here for a long time, and will be recommending others to come check it out. Note: If an omakase experience is not in your budget, they also offer ala carte items.

However, it quickly filled up over the course of the hour we were here. It's not a large place, with 7 booths and a couple of counter seats. They have their regular menu and a happy hour menu. I asked our server and she said the happy hour menu is offered all the time, so I guess it's not really a happy hour at that point but a fixed part of their regular offerings. We ordered exclusively off the happy hour menu by writing on the menu they gave us and got the following: egg roll ($6 hh) sesame chicken ($7.50 hh) salmon carpaccio ($12.50 hh) yellowtail scallion roll ($9.50 hh) beach salmon roll ($14.95 hh) rainbow roll ($14.95 hh) Yes the happy hour prices are good, but I found the fish slices on the rolls to be some of the thinnest I've ever had. You get what you pay for, I guess. However, it's hard to find sushi rolls at this price point these days, so it's better than paying 20 bucks for a similar roll. The salmon carpaccio is not worth it, as you get 5 small and thin slices of salmon for the price. The egg roll and sesame chicken were both solid. They are generous with the chicken and it was a lot more than we expected. However, it is completely bland so you have to dip it in the sweet sauce for flavor.

The restaurant did not provide a relaxing, calm environment to enjoy sushi. Instead, the space was super loud and congested. People were even on their phones at the sushi bar.
