KazuNori and Sugarfish are owned by the same company. KazuNori offers a more relaxed dining experience with only bar seating. Their menu specializes in their hand rolls as well. It's also a bit cheaper vs their counterpart. I've been to their other locations, but this was my first time at their new Calabasas location. We came on Mother's Day right a little bit after opening and there was ZERO wait. It was amazing. Usually the wait is around 15-20 mins depending on how many people you're with. (We were a group of 4 btw). We got their set menu of 6 rolls ($29) which included: Toro Hand Roll Yellowtail Hand Roll Salmon Hand Roll Bay Scallop Hand Roll Crab Hand Roll Lobster Hand Roll Everything tasted great as usual. You can always rely on consistency with KazuNori.

I just noticed that they are open in my area so I was excited to try it. Design is great, good music, good vibes. I was getting sightly bigger portions than at the other locations - not sure it was better cause I usually eat a hand roll in 2 rounds - a half each - and this time each half barely fit in my mouth. But ingredients were fresh and they had that signature taste. I like the little candles and a small cup with a bottle of water. The usual downsides like very hard bar stools with no back support and sitting literally shoulder to shoulder to another person ate there. Good, 4/5. Will definitely come back again

Ordered takeout from KazuNori and the sushi rolls were tasty, got some cucumber rolls, crab rolls in summary was a combination of different sushi's. The service was prompt the ambiance was busy.

Kazunori used to be the bomb! I used to love going to the one in Santa Monica so when we finally got one near me I was very excited to try! I had two lobsters, one shrimp, and one crab. Just a quick bite by my self before running errands. Not sure it's just this location? But the lobster was DRENCHED with sauce but the one in picture (it's crab) was decent less mayonnaise but my all time favorite was the lobster :( and the marination was overpowering the hand rolls. The host was amazing my server was friendly but once she took my order never really checked in. I had to ask the host for the check when all finished but ya I'd say kazunori Calabasas maybe I'll give it another try but I'd say it's just mediocre at best at the moment

Went here for dinner, looking for a closer sushi hand roll bar and I've heard so many great things about this restaurant. The vibe of the restaurant is like a bar setting, in which you are quite close to other people sitting at the bar. People can definitely be inconsiderate and take up a lot of the room so you're left sitting uncomfortably trying to enjoy your dinner. The portions of the food was great and the sets give you the basic value. Overall the sushi was great, some rolls were better than the other but I'll definitely be coming back.

Delicious hand rolls in Calabasas. The fish is super fresh, similar to their sister restaurant Sugarfish. I have been here x2 now, would recommend getting there early in order to be seated quickly. Staff is friendly and are happy to assist in answering any questions.

Finally got around to try it. Enjoyed a nice lunch in a hip and modern environment. It's a departure from traditional hand rolls as most if not all of the filling choices are chopped and flavored with different sauces. Otherwise the hand rolls are tasty, quickly prepared and fairly priced all things considered. But if you are a purist and expect traditional hand rolls, then you may be disappointed.

Thier newest location in Calabasas, and like all Kazu Nori location it's first come first serve. Their HR are solid, seaweed fresh was crispy. The rice was well season and the fish was fresh. It's a good place for a quick lunch or to satisfy your sushi fix. I notice they really stuff their HR with rice and fish at this location compared to other Kazu locations. Service was friendly and quick.

This place is all sushi bar dining. Lots of sushi chefs behind the counter so service is quick despite the limited seating. Everyone working there us very friendly, very knowledgeable. The menu is small which I have heard is a good sign. They don't have fancy rolls here. They are all hand rolls, simple and delicious. The quality- Wow! I will be coming back!

OMG! I am so happy this place opened in Calabasas. I've been to most of their locations in LA and this one is great, right in my hometown in Calabasas. I came here solo to dine during non busy hours, and it did not disappoint. I always get the same six hand rolls with easy rice, and it always comes so fresh and the seaweed is so crunchy, there's never anything for me to complain about. I came around four so seating wasn't difficult, just sat up on the bar. It was pretty quiet and mellow. Service was very friendly, great, and attentive. Received my roles in succession at a good pace. I will definitely come here again, as I find their hand rolls to be so fresh and so delicious!

Went to the LA location some time ago which was fantastic. This location is much closer so it's great to go to for a fast work lunch (in theory). The service, not by the sushi chefs, but the servers is so slow making what should be a thirty minute lunch closer to forty five. Otherwise, the fish is always fresh and tastes great. Quality is consistent across all visits. If the service improved, this location would also be a 10/10.

    Sara R.

I am loving KazuNori! It's bar seating only and the service is quick and efficient! You can order a variety of handrolls, as well as some appetizers & sashimi. They have a few different handroll combination sets that give you an opportunity to try some different options at a better price.

If you ordered to go is there somewhere outside you can sit and eat and bring your dog?

There is no outdoor seating available provided by the restaurant, however, there are a few outdoor tables for 4 part of the commons.

I actually showed up on a Friday afternoon just before 5 pm around 4:45 and put my name down. Around 4:55 there was easily 15-20 people outside the door who had been on the waitlist. We all fit into the first seating at 5 so no sweat there. There was even an open seat next to me that was filled by a drop in a few min after opening. The sushi- so.freaking.good. I love how generous they are with the portions and it was seriously tasty. The bluefin tuna + caviar was to die. I'm not even a sashimi person but I saw this and was like I want THAT. I had one and then immediately asked for a second one! The spicy tuna rices cakes were awesome, there was so much spicy tuna mix on it that it nearly broke my rice cake after the first bite. Then the Shibuya sea bass roll-YUM. Look at that stack on the roll. As crowded as it was, the service was excellent. My only regret is getting full. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu!

Charming place, tiny but with efficient and experienced service so everything comes out fast. Huge rolls and nigiri. Doesn't feel as expensive because of the generous cuts of fish. Everything is tasty and I end up ordering more than I should given the large portions but no complaints. Sweet shrimp is exceptional as well as their crispy rice. The stuffed squid was good but I would ask for the eel sauce on the side because the crab mix is also sweet, so the sweetness can be overpowering. I don't recommend the ikura bc of the heavy sake marinade but you may feel differently. The ikura has been the one and only item I wouldn't get again. Everything else has been fantastic. This is an entirely different experience to sugarfish. Shibuya is willing to make dishes to your taste, so if you don't want something on a particular dish or you want a special dish not on the menu, just tell your server. Everything can be customized which I really like. Sugarfish by comparison is extremely simple and utilitarian and has a factory quality to it that Shibuya is the complete opposite to. They really shouldn't be compared. If I'm low on time and didn't plan well enough, sugarfish is a reliable spot to get adequate sushi without the preplanning and waiting, but shibuya is a superior experience, imho. Happy eating!

Having been to the studio city location and enjoying, it's no contest in terms of parking ease (just $7 valet, so $10 LOL) diverse, creative menu items, roominess (at least twice the size here), still a few open tables at all times to enjoy without super cramped environment and just generally blew the doors off pretty much any other sushi joint near or far. Started with the Exclusive menu...not to me (I wish) but a smaller paper menu with specials. The FatherKels Roll, my goodness, what a start. (Weird name comes from, as my son told me, some Instagram chick or something, the usual nonsense.) I couldn't care less if it was named the Long Island Lolita Roll, it was literally the pinnacle of rolls, the Mt Everest if you will of rolls. Then ordered a bunch of rolls from Yellowtail Cilantro, Green Dragon, Citrus, were all one better than the other. Super melt-in-your-mouth, good fish ratio, immaculate sauce parings and fusions harmoniously dancing in your mouth as your tastebuds get orgasmisized to oblivion. You'd think something as simple as a mushroom soup wouldn't warrant any praise...NOT HERE. What a soup, one of the best I've ever had. (Please get this). Everything we tried ranged from A to A+, and the bonus kicker, they have a Yuzu, yes YUZU sauce bottle on the table. Good luck finding that anywhere in the country without begging for it like a little bitch HAHAHAAAA Even the wasabi was so fresh and course ground, I mean just every box was checked and boxes you didn't even know ever existed. Gil, a slick cool dude/manager came to ask how our meal was and complimented our family and ordering taste, nice touch. Needless to say, one and never done; will be hard-pressed to eat sushi anywhere else again...yes I'm not joking. It's not cheap, blew 90 bucks a person all-in but worth every dollar plus interest.

My martini was very cold, well-made and of a very generous size, so no complaints on that front at all. My wife ordered the Macadamia Crusted Halibut, with a double dose of starch: mashed potatoes and Mac & Cheese. The fish was fresh, meaty and nicely cooked, with a juicy interior and a very flavorful crust. The potatoes also had good flavor, but I found the mac & cheese to be wanting -- a bit too much like the packaged variety. However, my wife really liked it, so what do I know?!
