We had such a wonderful experience at KazuNori Calabasas. I was honestly overwhelmed by how easy and comfortable they made it for us with my boyfriend being in a wheelchair. They have an accessible section of the bar that lowers to a comfortable height for wheelchair users -- such a thoughtful detail that I almost cried when I saw it. The food was delicious, incredibly fresh, and exactly what I expected after previously visiting the Santa Monica location. Great food, thoughtful accessibility, and an overall fantastic experience. KazuNori and Sugarfish are owned by the same company. KazuNori offers a more relaxed dining experience with only bar seating. Their menu specializes in their hand rolls as well. It's also a bit cheaper vs their counterpart. I've been to their other locations, but this was my first time at their new Calabasas location. We came on Mother's Day right a little bit after opening and there was ZERO wait. It was amazing. Usually the wait is around 15-20 mins depending on how many people you're with. (We were a group of 4 btw). We got their set menu of 6 rolls ($29) which included: Toro Hand Roll Yellowtail Hand Roll Salmon Hand Roll Bay Scallop Hand Roll Crab Hand Roll Lobster Hand Roll Everything tasted great as usual. I was getting sightly bigger portions than at the other locations - not sure it was better cause I usually eat a hand roll in 2 rounds - a half each - and this time each half barely fit in my mouth. Kazunori used to be the bomb! I used to love going to the one in Santa Monica so when we finally got one near me I was very excited to try! I had two lobsters, one shrimp, and one crab. Just a quick bite by my self before running errands. Not sure it's just this location? But the lobster was DRENCHED with sauce but the one in picture (it's crab) was decent less mayonnaise but my all time favorite was the lobster :( and the marination was overpowering the hand rolls. The host was amazing my server was friendly but once she took my order never really checked in. I had to ask the host for the check when all finished but ya I'd say kazunori Calabasas maybe I'll give it another try but I'd say it's just mediocre at best at the moment read more

The vibe of the restaurant is like a bar setting, in which you are quite close to other people sitting at the bar. So excited to have KazuNori at The Commons. I used to live in the Westwood area and had visited the location there a few times and loved it. I had also been to the Studio City location and had a good experience. I am now in Calabasas, so I was really excited to have a location open near us. My husband and I had been meaning to go and ended up going for the first time on a Saturday night after 10pm. The restaurant is very nice inside. The employees were super nice and attentive, and the food came out very fast. The hand rolls were just as delicious as we remembered. I appreciate the consistency among the different locations. Their prices for what you get and the quality are very reasonable. My husband surprised me the other night and brought home to-go orders for us. It was delicious. My only complaint is that I wish you could order the hand rolls for to-go or delivery, but I understand they care about the experience, so they only serve the hand rolls when dining in and cut rolls for to-go or delivery. It's a departure from traditional hand rolls as most if not all of the filling choices are chopped and flavored with different sauces. OMG! I am so happy this place opened in Calabasas. I've been to most of their locations in LA and this one is great, right in my hometown in Calabasas. I came here solo to dine during non busy hours, and it did not disappoint. I always get the same six hand rolls with easy rice, and it always comes so fresh and the seaweed is so crunchy, there's never anything for me to complain about. I came around four so seating wasn't difficult, just sat up on the bar. It was pretty quiet and mellow. Service was very friendly, great, and attentive. Went to the LA location some time ago which was fantastic. This location is much closer so it's great to go to for a fast work lunch (in theory). The service, not by the sushi chefs, but the servers is so slow making what should be a thirty minute lunch closer to forty five. Otherwise, the fish is always fresh and tastes great. Kazunori - the cousin of sugar fish. The place to go if you just want a QUICK meal of handrolls. Just like at Sugarfish, there are some boundaries regarding what items they will or won't let you sub out. Someone in our party wanted only Toro handrolls and was willing to pay individually per handroll and they would not allow it. Very odd. Nevertheless the quality and service are good. The seats here are a bit uncomfortable, by the end of the meal myself and a few friends opted for standing instead of sitting. There is no back support at all and the seats are very close to the bar. You cannot make reservations here, you have to get there and wait in the line until there are enough seats at the bar for your party. Cost is pretty average and there is the huge parking lot at the commons that's free! Personally I'd come here for a super quick lunch or early dinner but I wouldn't be coming here for a nice dinner, I'd prefer sugar fish or shibuya for that. read more

The place itself has more of a small neighborhood bar vibe rather than a sushi restaurant. The atmosphere feels like a small pub with quiet music playing in the background. Some people might like that kind of setting, but if you are coming specifically for sushi, the food should really be the main focus. Honestly, I do not understand how this place has more than one star when it comes to the quality of the sushi. I have eaten sushi in many places, including very high end sushi restaurants, but also in simple and inexpensive places. Even the cheaper places usually respect the food and still serve sushi that tastes good. Here, the sushi and sashimi were unfortunately the least tasty I have had. I usually eat almost everything and I finished my food, but my wife barely ate anything and actually left the place still hungry. That says a lot about the quality of the food. When you go out for dinner, especially sushi, you expect fresh and flavorful fish, and that was just not the case here. Maybe this place is more suitable for younger people who are just looking for a casual place to hang out and drink with cheaper prices, but for anyone who truly enjoys sushi or understands sushi quality, I would not recommend this place. I also want to say that I really do not like leaving bad reviews. I almost never give one star reviews, and I always try to be fair. The only positive part of the experience was that the bartender was nice and polite, so for that reason I am giving two stars instead of one. Unfortunately this is not a place I would return to. It is a hand roll restaurant where the entire seating area is a sushi bar, so there is not a ton of seating, but the food is always incredibly high-quality because of it. I have been to this location in Calabasas a few times now, specifically in between the lunch and dinner rushes. Because of the timing, I haven't seen it get too crowded, and the experience has been great every time. I am so happy to finally have this in town. read more

This location is located in a plaza with other restaurants and shops so there's plenty of parking available close by. Since this location is newer, signage has not yet been put up so it can be a little tough to locate but it's in between BLVD Steak and Starbucks. Like all other locations, it's high top bar seating so a large group can be a challenge. My friend and I arrived around 12:15 on a Sunday afternoon & didn't have to wait long. Their menu is pretty straightforward and simple which makes it consistent across their locations. We opted for the 6-hand roll set menu & was served quickly but not too fast so we were able to enjoy our meal and conversation. Our server was kind and attentive. Had a solo lunch at KazuNori. Was seated promptly and it wasn't too busy for a Saturday afternoon. The service was very kind and attentive. I ordered the 6 hand roll and salmon sashimi. The quality of the fish was hit or miss. Particularly for the salmon sashimi, it didn't appear to be all that fresh. However the hand rolls were good, the scallop and crab stood out to me as most delicious which was a surprise. Sushi rice & Nori were good as well but the fish was just eh. I actually cannot believe that we were able to secure three lunch seats on opening day, and with only about a 15 minute wait. The service and food was just as great as if you'd been open for years. BONUS, the great Chef Nozawa himself came by (my son opened the door for him while we were in line, not even knowing who he was) and had lunch at the counter. #honored. I came to this sushi place with a simple expectation. I wasn't expecting anything fancy or special, but I did expect basic sushi that is made properly. Unfortunately the experience was very disappointing from beginning to end. The first thing I noticed when the rolls arrived was how they looked. The rolls didn't look stable and some of them were already starting to fall apart before I even tried to eat them. Sushi should be rolled well so it holds together when you eat it, but here almost every bite made the roll fall apart. Another thing that disappointed me was the structure of the rolls. According to their menu the rolls are made with rice, seaweed and fish, and that is exactly what you get. The problem is that it feels very plain and one-dimensional. Most of the bite feels like rice with very little filling. Even simple sushi should still feel balanced between the rice and the fish. Here it felt like the rice completely took over and the roll itself didn't hold together well. The taste was also not good in my opinion. Every bite felt heavy because of the amount of rice, and overall the flavor was very bland. After a few pieces I honestly didn't even want to keep eating, which almost never happens to me when I eat sushi. Yes, the place is cheap and the prices are low. I understand that not every sushi place needs to be fancy or expensive. But even a cheap place should respect itself and make normal rolls that are rolled properly and actually enjoyable to eat. A low price shouldn't be an excuse for rolls that fall apart and feel like they are mostly rice. In the end the whole experience was disappointing. I didn't enjoy the food, the rolls were falling apart, and the taste just wasn't good. I left feeling really disappointed and unfortunately this is not a place I would come back to. read more

I always go to KazuNori in Studio City and it's always amazing, so I was really excited to try the Calabasas location... but this experience was honestly disappointing. I went for lunch and the bar was only about half full if anything, yet it still took around 10 minutes to seat me. When I was finally seated, they placed me right between two parties even though there were plenty of open seats, which made everything feel cramped and kind of chaotic from the start. After sitting down, I felt like I got completely lost. My server seemed confused about whether I had been helped or not, and because I was seated directly in front of where the rolls were being made, it was hard for her to even access me. The whole flow just felt off. Foodwise, the only real highlight was the guy making the rolls. He was generous with the fish, which I appreciated. But my salmon sashimi barely had any sauce on it, which was disappointing. Overall, the experience just felt disorganized and stressful, and I couldn't even relax and enjoy the meal. I found myself rushing to leave, which is the complete opposite of how I usually feel at KazuNori. read more

Handrolls at a decent price, same owners as Sugarfish so its delicious. I love the Nozie and 6 hand roll set. They make it fresh fresh 1 roll at a time so its enjoyed as best and fresh as possible. My only complaint is the seating, I can't stand touching knees with strangers. Very likely to happen sitting next to heavier people :( There are hooks for purses under the seats though which is convenient. The servers are very friendly and its extremely romantic inside with the dim lights. Their may be a bit of a wait during dinner but I hardly deal with a line at lunch.
