Friendly, simple same day service. Needed a quick commuter fix and he was able to accommodate my wheels on the same day. Dropped off the bike and went to catch a movie at the mall, by the time everything was over my bike was ready to roll! While going to a corporatey, rhymey bike shop that "sells local" may work for some things, the "we can't look at your bike because we are booked out two weeks" is not always the first thing you need to hear when you call to get information up front.. The one man, one stop shop is what got bikes has been to me, and I like it a lot. Apparently pickup/delivery may be available, though it's close enough to my commute/VTA to make anyone happy :) New location is really nice, and immersed in an authentic biker feel... While James may not have an overly friendly personality and can be business like abrupt, he runs the most competent and fair bike shop I have ever dealt with. I have now been into Got Bikes twice, and have had two exceptional experiences. First time after somebody stole my rim (newbie mistake: didn't lock the front wheel). It's an older bike and I didn't want to spend hundreds on a new rim. I was very happy to find that Got Bikes had a perfect used wheel for me, very good quality at a fair price. It was exactly what I was looking for. Today, I came back for something simple: I was replacing a tube, but having trouble replacing a tight fitting tire on a rim without damaging the tube. (Again, a cycling newbie) And he VERY patiently showed me exactly how to do it correctly. Getting help like that is exactly the reason to do business with a local bike shop. Great little shop. I called this place to get a quote on tuning up my bike. After telling me that they charge a separate service fee $15, for the each wheel and each brake on top of the parts, I decided to go with another shop and this is completely ridiculous to charge a service fee for every part of the bike. To my surprise, this James, started text harassing me on my personal cell phone from his shop. Telling me I am rude and he is SO HAPPY I am not coming to his shop. Who does that?!!! I recently bought a used bike off someone online and got jibbed on some bad tires. Booo! Anyhow, I finally found the time to do some research on somewhere to replace them. James business popped up right away. I usually read reviews before I go anywhere new but I decided to go anyways. I loaded up and hauled my bike over. The parking situation is not ideal and it is likely that you'll have to walk a little bit to get to the shop, as there is no parking inside. I didn't mind the walk though! We're such sedentary society anyways. I arrived to a garage like building entrance and noticed how large it was inside. Many awesome bikes outside and inside. The whole store was filled with every little accessory and part you could think of! You could tell for a one man shop, James really loves what he does. He was on the phone initially but quickly got off to help me right away. I told him I needed two new tubes. He came out to check over my bike and as he did I mentioned that my tires are old and cracking as well. He suggested that I should get new tires which I figured would be the case. He then showed me all the variety of tires he had in stock and asked me what I was looking for as well as my price range. He allowed me to feel the tires and see the durability of them all. I opt'd for the primo tires in the end. I know I want the best for my rides! He was very personable and we got on the topic of myself wanted to do a triathlon. He advised me that my aluminum bike was definitely not ideal for a triathlon, it's way too heavy, of which I kind of already knew. He offered to sell me a bike that he has been working on for a very reasonable price. It's was very kind gesture. Unfortunately I had to decline. I'm a college student working a very menial paying job. If I had more money saved, I would have definitely taken the offer! I have brought my son bike Fixie here twice for tubes and repair he has good prices . This second time we choose to go with the higher end tubes to protect against thorns and whatever he rides over . I will highly recommend this to my family and friends . I also like that he is mobile and can come to your house or deliver if need there will be a charge but that is an option of course . read more

I found James through a web search. Outstanding service and work. We don't have expensive bikes and I thought I just needed a couple tires changed and a baby seat installed. James came to my house, picked up the bikes and gave me a quote on the spot along with tune ups. Within 3 days I got a call that everything was done and he offered to deliver them to my house. Have always taken my bikes to LBS (local bike store) for service, and haven't been that satisfied. I needed the gears to be meshing better (tried 2 tuneups from 2 different LBS with little improvement), and my youngest boys bike had gear/brake issues. James responded promptly to my email, was flexible about coming out to our house, and provided very clear upfront information on how much each thing would cost. You really can't beat having a knowledgeable bike repair person come out and do the work at your place - so much better than being without your bike for days on end. He was very careful to make sure I was happy with the work done (getting brakes to stop squeaking can be tricky) but he spent the time to get it right, and I thought the price for the service provided was very fair. In addition, he happened to have a used bike that fit our family's needs at this time, saving me another trip to the LBS! I highly recommend :-) read more

James does great work. My son's previous bike had a slow leak I couldn't figure out! James quickly identified the thorn, and was able to completely fix our tire. Welcome bike 2, and again I had a FAST leak on the rear tire. Called James, he was able to get us in right away, and he not only fixed the tire, he also installed a kickstand, and gave the bike a quick once over. James is so nice, and will honestly evaluate the bike. A quick reminder, anything you can get at a bike shop, pretty much Got Bike's sells too. Think of it as a BikeShop on wheels! Certainly the most convenient. If you have more than 1 bike, a shop on wheels might be what you need. He can do visits and service everything on site! Got me a quote right away, and let me know his set up requirements. Prior to his arrival he confirmed our date and also thought ahead about the probable rain that was going to occur on this day. When working with a vendor, it's always great to get confirmation and also to know they are thinking ahead about the experience of the customer. Onsite he was friendly, fast, and very diligent. I recently purchased a light/camera unit for my bike at Got Bikes and when I got it home, I couldn't get it to work. I took it back, and after James and I looked at it together and still couldn't figure out what was wrong, he refunded me. I had just purchased a new Kent bike off the internet and assembled it but had problems with the front brake replacement/ alignment, rear brake alignment, front wheel was not true and brake line needed replacement. I called James who has been in repairing bikes for over 10 years and just went mobile 3 months ago in August. James drove out to my house in his van/ mobile workshop and got right to work replacing the front brakes, then aligning brakes, truing the wheel and replacing a brake line. James was very friendly, even giving me tips on truing a wheel and common maintenance tips. James experience and knowledgeable easily shone through his handiwork, he had all the tools and took care of my bike, no scratches. His rates are very reasonable when you consider he is mobile and can come out to your house, place of work or time allowng out on a trail or a park if you broke down with a flat tire. He carries most major parts, wheels, tires, brake lines, etc and even assembles custom bikes and sells hitches and bikes. I highly recommend James if you either want a bike assembled, brake alignment/ replacement, maintenance/ tune up, have other bike issues or simply wish to purchase parts. 10/10/13 Update - James now charges $10 for mobile onsite service to cover gas or alternatively you can drive over to his place off Redmond Ave. His rates have gone up from two years ago but are still somewhat reasonable. read more

Mike always turns the repairs around in the time that I need and the bike comes back in perfect condition. I recently needed disc brake pads replaced. He did this and made a few adjustments to gears. I bought a new (used bike) and needed both new brake and derailleur cables installed. Lead times these days for my usual LBS were running at least a week if you're lucky, so I looked for somebody new to try that was relatively close to my house. I found James on Google and scanned his reviews on Yelp. His website clearly said that you need to e-mail him for a service appointment, so I did. I asked his current lead time, and he responded in less than an hour that he could do the job in no longer than 2 days, so I brought my bike in. A day and a half later he texted me that the bike was done, and I appreciated that he held true to his word on the schedule. The cost was more than reasonable for his labor. I test drove the bike on a long ride the next day and everything worked fine. One the ride following that a day later, the shifting started to be very spotty--the rear derailleur wouldn't hold a gear for any length of time without shifting inadvertently. I knew that new cables will eventually stretch and may cause shifting problems, but it was obviously too early for that to happen after just a few hours of riding. I e-mailed James, explained the situation, and asked if I could bring the bike in. He responded in about 15 minutes and I brought it in that same day around 2 pm. He told me to come back in 3 hours and he'd have it done. He followed through as he said & told me it was a micro-adjustment on the rear derailleur that made the difference. When I asked him how much I owed him he said no charge. He seems to know his business and obviously takes pride in his work. I have 4 bikes so I know where I'm going next time I need service! read more

I needed help with installing an 8 speed cassette on a new rim with a hub motor. I'm pretty good at working on my bikes and just needed help with this. I took it to James and he told me I could not re-use my old 8 speed cassette because it was not compatible with the new rim. Fortunately he had an 8 speed freewheel and installed it in minutes and I was on my way. I feel good that I completed the Electic bike conversion myself with just a little help from James. read more

James is a great guy. I had a gear shift cable snap on my road bike over the weekend. I spent over an hour trying to get at the frayed ends of the cable, but the shifter mechanism just wouldn't rotate. Monday morning, I searched for options and found James & Got Bikes? are close to my house and the Yelp reviews were all very positive, so I gave him a call. James said he could fix it for me, so after work, I rode over to his workshop. It was a tough job, but he finally coaxed the frayed cable from the shifter. While I was there, I also picked up a new pair of cleats for my clipless pedals. His prices are reasonable and he does a great job.
