The burger wars are on and Gott's Roadside is trying their best to keep up by just getting bigger and bigger with an increasing number of locations throughout the Bay Area. Founded by a pair of brothers over twenty years ago, as they took over the old venerable location of Taylor's Refresher along the St. Helena Highway in the heart of California wine country, Gott's Roadside domination of the local burger scene has been nothing short of remarkable. Sure there are a lot of competitors out there that also specialize in higher-end burger served in a classic sit-down diner setting. For their first location in the East Bay, Gott's brilliantly decided to locate themselves smack in the middle of the heart of the city's bustling downtown shopping district, better known as Broadway Plaza, but slightly off to the side in another outdoor shopping plaza called Main Street Plaza, in was once a location of the Fresh Choice buffet. What makes the burgers unique is that they reinterpret their classic dishes with quality ingredients such as Niman Ranch beef patties, Zoe's Bacon, sushi grade Ahi Tuna for their tacos, organic kale for their salads and organic ingredients for the hand spun shakes. Although the indoor dining room at Gott's Walnut Creek fits a number of tables and guests, they also have additional seating in an outdoor patio in front of the restaurant overlooking South Main Street. Parking, which in downtown Walnut Creek, can be a bit of a pain due to the high volume of shoppers and diners throughout the plaza, was a snap on the day we went due to the fact that the Main Street Plaza wasn't busy at all. Despite the time being almost 3 p.m. when the time we arrived to order our lunch, the line went fairly slowly which was due to fact they seemed to be in transition of staff as we saw them being trained in the dining room while we were waiting in line. Today, my dining mates weren't too hungry and agreed to split our meal family style. So we ordered their Bacon Cheeseburger which features American cheese, Zoe's bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and secret sauce on a toasted egg bun; their Texas Avocado Burger which features Jack cheese, sliced avocado, pico de gallo, mayo, pickled jalapenos and served on a toasted egg bun. For our sides I order both garlic fries and onion rings and I drink since their shakes are so well-known, I decided to order one of their specialty shakes that was featured on their Today's Specials menu, the Caramelized Pineapple Shake. The wait for our food was actually shorter than the wait to order at the front window that under normal circumstances that would not be the case, as with all of the other Gott's locations that I have been to, they have a pretty organized ordering and serving system going on at all of their locations. When our did arrive at our outdoor table, everything from our food to our shake came out at the same time. Our burgers were both cut in half, which I requested with our cashier ahead of time, and the fries and the onion rings were fresh from the fryer, hot and crunchy. You could taste the freshness from the ingredients that make up the burgers, but I did wish that they weren't cooked medium well as there was no real definitive pink center to be found therefore causing a lack of juiciness in the burgers and an overall dryness with each bite. The fries and onion rings were the real stars of our meal, as they were greasy and flavorful thanks to the abundance of garlic and olive oil that judiciously spread over the fries and the fact that they were still warm from the fryer. I liked my pineapple shake, which was super thick upon first sip and only went down smoother once it melted while sitting out for a few moments. All in all, I'm still a fan of the burgers, fries, onion rings and shakes that Gott's offers up. Is it the most affordable place for a burger and fries, to answer that quickly is a resounding no as their is competition down the street that serves up burgers at a cheaper rate. But the quality of the fresh ingredients that make up their food shine through at Gott's. I do wish the shakes were more affordable, as at 7 dollars for a 16 ounce drink simply doesn't justify the cost. Would a return visit to Gott's be in order for me? If I'm shopping in one of the best outdoor shopping malls in the Bay Area, you better believe you'll eventually find me eating a burger and fries at Gott's sooner or later that same day! read more

I'd heard about Gott's and was curious. Met up with my dear friend and her husband for lunch today. The line moved quickly and ordered up the Fish and Chips. My friends had the Fish Tacos with Sweet Potato Fries. Both meals were enjoyable, but yes, as Stephanie Y suggests, pricey for what you get. Then again, our original destination was True Foods nearby. I suggested we pass since I didn't want an $18 salad. Well... $18 for Fish and Chips and self-service too. Food is super good but the prices are extreme in my opinion. They also seem to not prioritize online orders. I ordered online for two people and after I clicked order and pay the wait time increased from 20-25 to 45 minutes. It's 4pm and it is not packed here at all. People are coming in, ordering, eating and leaving while I wait. My food took 50 minutes. I think they just get your money and for some reason don't feel incentivized to complete online orders as timely and ordering in line. Also the soda price is 3.79 on the menu online for a 24oz but on my receipt it's 3.99 so I'm not sure why the prices are misleading. read more

Good ambience, quiet music and diffused lighting. Has outdoor seating options with and without heaters. Seating isn't super accommodating; booths, benches, and tables are all fixed to the ground. There are chairs available but they have small seats with arms, and moveable stools that are small and at bar height- not inclusive to people who may need more accessible options. You order at the door, and are given a buzzer. You seat yourself and wait for your food to be ready at the back counter. Impossible Burger was good, service was quick. Onion rings were nice and crispy. The "Western Bacon Blue Ring" burger had great toppings, but was a bit dry despite being pink still on the inside. The fries were just okay. A little cold, so we could've gotten a bad impression. Not salted enough for my taste. Vanilla shake and the coffee shake were both delicious, but pricey for what they were. There is also a bar in the back with wine and draft beers. Overall I would say this is a similar experience to "Five Guys" with better tasting food and more options. read more

I tried, and maybe the dine-in experience is much different, but I just don't get why there is always such a long line at the Ferry Building and WC locations, even pre-COVID. PICK-UP: Park in the lot next to Gott's, they've blocked off their own parking area for outdoor seating. The pick-up instructions were clear. You stand by the sign and they come out with your order. We arrived before our order was ready, so it was in our hands shortly after prep. Drive home was 10 min. FOOD: My kimchi burger was super soggy by the time I ate it. Not sure if it was the water content from the kimchi or perhaps the egg burst and I didn't notice(?), but the bottom bun was falling apart in my hands. Such a bummer because I was just scarfing the burger down at that point and couldn't fully enjoy it. Taste was good, but nothing to write home about. Their portion sizes also feel slightly on the smaller side? Partner and I both agreed we weren't fully satisfied after the meal. Partner got the Cali burger. Didn't have the same soggy bun experience. Said it was good but definitely not the best he's had. Sadly, our fries were cold by the time we got home. Didn't expect them to be hot of course, but not cold. I'm thinking these were made and sitting while our burgers were assembled? A decent crispy fry. I've been meaning to try Gott's for so so long now and am definitely disappointed in the outcome here. Maybe I'll give it another shot in the future? This is a bit of an incomplete review but overall I was satisfied...incomplete because I did not eat exactly what I wanted to eat... We came here for lunch Saturday last and I like a nice solid burger-no messy sauces and most of the time no cheese. So I ordered one. Well my wife's order came medium well while mine was well done so we switched. I prefer regular fries over garlic fries but I lost the vote to the group. The food is good, no doubt about that. But, it's real feckin' pricey. $15 for 3 poke tacos. I can get a ginormous poke bowl for less than that. (On a side note, they were pretty full and topped with delicious avocado). Were they good? Eff yeah, they were, I could have housed two orders. Fresh, meaty poke in a crispy wonton style taco shell. Genius. The garlic fries at $4 aren't as good as In N Out's and not a huge portion. The burgers all look delicious, but again, it ain't cheap. Yes to quality ingredients, yes to fresh made food, a-ok for a $20+ fast food style meal like a burger, fries and a drink. LIFE IS EXPENSIVE, YO! The place is big and bright and spacious. Came in for dinner on Sunday evening 6/28/20 with family. Because of Covid-19 social distancing guidelines, I made line outside near the handrails. On this day there was only one other party in line before me. I was greeted by friendly workers and before long I was ordering. I ordered the street corn, vanilla shake, root beer float, Wisconsin, Impossible burger, Brussels sprouts, fries. Seating wasn't easy because of the limited space and social distancing. Fortuantely, one of the workers came and got me when a table became available. The wait wasn't long to receive my food and it my Wisconsin burger has to be the most delicious burger in recent memory. The tangy BBQ sauce had me pacing myself and savoring each and every bite. My 9 year old son who is a vegetarian has an impossible burger and devoured his burger completely. I'd probably give this place a 3.5 but rounded up because kids and husband loved it. Husband had the California burger--fried egg, bacon, and cowgirl creamery cheese. He was raving about it, and it was really good. Kids both had kids meal--chicken fingers and fries. Chicken looked nice and crispy and the meal comes with a refillable drink (ie soda) which made them very happy. I wasn't in the mood for a burger so got a cup of chili and the fried brussel sprouts. The chili was ok but lukewarm in temperature, and the brussel sprouts weren't quite crispy enough to warrant the amount of oil that coated them and the dish. Their shakes are delicious though--especially the cookies and cream. Tip: if you later decide you need additional food/drink and don't want to wait in the super long line, you can order drinks at the side counter where you pick up food. We love coming here. Since we are in WC every weekend, this is one of our top spots to go to. I mean, come on, this Napa staple is right in our backyard! They have plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor. They've got great beer and wine selections. And the food is always good. If you haven't had an Impossible burger, it's definitely a must try. In fact, I will get the Impossible over the regular meat any time of day. Honestly, it'll seem like you're eating meat. It's so flavorful, got the same look as ground beef, and bleeds the same. What's not to like about the idea of saving this planet while eating good? Other items we like to get are their specials. This time was the soft shell crab sandwich. Another time was the crispy tofu sandwich. An item to die for that's always on their menu and that you may not expect is the ahi crispy tacos. So good! Really disappointed today. Gott's had been our go to place for family get together's but after today's experience we're going to look for another place. My burger was barely warm and average. AND EXPENSIVE!, and the garlic fries were drenched, swimming in oil and barely warm. AND EXPENSIVE! Very un-appealing. For the money they charge the food should be perfect. Everything is self serve. You stand in line and order at a counter. Then they give you a beeper. When that goes off you have to retrieve your food at another counter. I have to chuckle. Some people are naive enough to think that their food is going to pop up right after they order it. They walk over to the pick up counter and stand, ....and stand, ....and stand. Finally they get smart and go sit down. Need napkins, condiments? You have to retrieve those yourself also, at yet another counter. The dinner room is large and can get noisy. We went on a rainy day for DDs Kaiser appointment, and shopping/returns. The WC location is nicely designed and modern. Love the wall graphics of Mt Diablo and the EAT sign. Wine bar at back... I have never seen that before! Counter service was great. Burgers, Chicken Strips, Vietnamese Salad, plain and garlic fries were consumed. All was very tasty. As an out of towner, I was brought to this spot by a local who said this place was delicious. The line was really long but it was a Friday night and it went be relatively quick. Food itself took 25 minutes for take out though, which was pretty long for take out. But also had to remove a star cause we asked if everything was in our bag and we were told yes but when we got back, we were missing my citrus and avocado salad. We paid for the item so it's unfortunate they we didn't have it as we trusted it would be there when we confirmed with the worker. Not sure how it was missed as our buzzer went off and the food was supposedly ready. We tried calling when we found out but they weren't answering. This is one of my favorite places in downtown Walnut Creek. I love cheeseburgers and fries, but the last few years have been eating gluten-free and dairy-free. This place is very sensitive to food sensitivities, and when I order a gluten-free bun they ask if I want them to make sure the fries are fried in oil that hasn't had anything else glutinous in it. When I mention that I'm dairy-free they suggest I use mayonnaise instead of their special sauce. Gott's, how I love your Ahi tacos and French fries. Soft serve ice cream taunts me and you often have Pliny the Elder if one wants a strong drink. You are a tad on the pricey side, but the variety, quality, and consistency for casual dining is tough to beat. Burgers are delicious, lots of flavors, and fairly messy, the way they should be. Salads are very good, although sometimes the Cobb salad could use a couple extra ingredients, compared to other restaurants. Also, for food pickup during COVID times, it is a little confusing to figure out how to check in when everyone is standing around and trying to maintain social distancing. Maybe some Starbucks style markers on the floor to help folks understand where to go. read more

Avocado tacos were terrible! A small sliver of avocado that was deep fried (who deep fries avocado?) so you couldn't taste the little bit of avocado that it was, on a large amount of fresh cabbage. Located within the main area of Walnut Creek, right across one of the major parking lots at the corner close to Apple and Uniqlo is this large restaurant with both indoor and outdoor dining. I came by during the long weekend in January and that was during one of the COVID surges, there were signs saying that the wait may be awhile due to staffing shortages. I was feeling like getting a nice salad, I've been to their other restaurants in Napa and Calistoga (I believe that's where Gott's originates from). Always the perfect spot to grab a burger and fuel up while wine tasting in the Napa Valley. Their burgers, chicken strips, garlic fries, shakes, tacos, and salads are all really good. I opted to get the Vietnamese Chicken Salad and a Revive Kombucha. I think this is a newer salad on the menu and I was hungry and impressed. The chicken was super crunchy and the flavor of the salad was very similar to a vermicelli bowl-- sour, sweet, crispy! So tasty and refreshing. I didn't feel like it took too long and it's pretty modern and aesthetic inside. There's a bar that serves wine and beer (local too). And they have desserts and call cues for when your food is ready. They have a water dispenser and cups too. One of the fast food areas to stop by while shopping where it's not formal table service dining. Would recommend if you're in the area! There's not much street parking but there's plenty of parking garages that are walking distance. read more

The bottom line is; it's just average. Average doesn't have to mean bad. But when you have high expectations, it can be a bit of a let down. I have heard so many amazing things about the Gott's Roadside in Napa, so I was excited when I found out that they were opening a location right here in my little hood. This location takes over the old building where Fresh Choice used to be. Since it's still rather new, you can imagine how busy it can get. I decided to stop by on a weekday evening and the line was out the door! Luckily, one of the ladies who worked there told us that we could also order our food at the bar. I ordered at the bar and decided to just sit there and eat since it appeared that most of the tables in the dining room were taken. The interior setup is cute! The seating kind of reminds me of a big ol' cafeteria and I like that you can see the cooks working their magic in the kitchen. The bar area is nice too but options are limited, and you have to close out your tab after ever drink.... very annoying. The bartender said that this was the first and only location with a bar, so they're still sorting things out. Understandable I guess, but still annoying. Speaking of the bartender, she seemed really irritated for some reason. Maybe because people were ordering from the bar and there was a point where she for swamped?! There were a few times were she came off kind of rude, but her attitude changed once things calmed down at the bar. I ended up ordering a cheeseburger, onion rings, A blue moon, and a milkshake for dessert. I can't forget to mention the sweet lady at the ice cream counter! She was super nice and told me about their ranch sauce which was on point! But anyways, I really wasn't impressed with my meal overall. The burger was a bit dry and the overly bready bun didn't help with that at all. The onions rings tasted like they had been sitting in the oil for too long. Loved the seasonal egg nog milkshake, but it was pretty tiny for $7. They use Three Twins ice cream to make their shakes, so it's no wonder that it tasted so good. They have a great looking specials menu, but I'm not sure about it now since they specialize in burgers those aren't even that impressive. Would I come back?!
