We ordered our food as usual. WE liked this place. Then I went to use the ladies restroom. what I saw horrified me. A red-brown lumpy substance was dryed and all over the stainless hand rail next to toilet. The trash receptacle had !!??? dry substance all over like a bomb went off all over it! The plastic liner inside was new, so the employee who put the liner in clearly was not interested in cleaning any thing else. FILTHY!!!! All I could think is....my food is coming from a kitchen that surely looks similar. I told my husband we had to leave, but before we did I took our waitress inside that restroom and showed her. Yelpers you didn't let me down. I have been sick all weekend and just wanted warm food-- certainly didn't want to cook. I haven't ordered Chinese food in well over a year, so I didn't know who was the best and could deliver. They are just as described- delicious, not greasy and gross-- very big portions-- amazing prices. Delivery was fast. I tried the Walnut Honey Chicken based on recommendatios and wow. Unreal. I was at my friend's house and we were in the mood for some Chinese. She recommended a place close by that delivered (Gourmet House of course). Chinese delivery can be hit or miss, but this was a hit! We ordered the egg rolls, crab rangoons, kung pao chicken, and the sesame beef. Everything was awesome! The delivery was fast, everything was hot (not lukewarm, hot). I really liked the sesame beef (that was her order so I only tried it, but next time that is what I am getting!). It wasn't greasy, the crab rangoons had the right proportion of filling/crispy outside, and there was the right ratio of sauce to the meals. I was impressed. read more

It's hard to give my family & I's once favorite Chinese place a 1 Star. They raised the prices $1-$2 per item & let the quality plummet. All my food tonite was extremely greasy or not fresh! Whenever I am in the mood for cashew chicken, this is at the top of my list. Other places may serve it, but none duplicate it. The chicken is all white meat and cooked just right. No shoe leather pieces of chicken!!!! They do not skimp on the cashews and the sauce is delicious. If you need extra rice, they will happily serve more without an additional charge. We've eaten here a number of times and never had a bad experience. I'm pretty picky about Chinese food (don't like rubbery and/or slimy chicken), and this is our go-to for quick Chinese. We often order Kung Pao chicken, Lo mein, egg rolls, fried rice, and Hunan chicken (I think?), all of which are great. I don't recommend the chicken with vegetables, it's very blah. Drive by this resturant twice a day, Monday through Friday for a year and never tried it. I finally caved and called in an order to pick up through the drive-thru. A drive thru for a Chinese resturant! How friggin convenient is that?! I was hoping to see some good reccomendations from my fellow yeplers, but unfortunately no one really wrote what they ate. So, I went with a small orange chicken, a small mongolian beef, and a side of sauteed spinach and portobello mushrooms. The best part of placing my order was that I could do it online-so easy. I arrived at the drive thru window and dinner was already there waiting for me. The food was excellent, I had three full meals from all the food. Went here last week and dined in for lunch. The place was ok and service as ok as well. Nothing spectacular like some reviews. I didn't like their fried rice what so ever it seemed like someone chopped up the rice because it didn't seem like whole grains. Which was weird to me. First time visit, and glad we tried here! Nice place. One medium sized dining area, with a TV mounted up front - we enjoyed part of the Blackhawks game that evening. Open space with plenty of natural light. We have tried a number of Chinese restaurants in the area but had not quite been satisfied with any of them. We had a go-to place for takeout that I would visit after work and bring home, but they started receiving bad reviews (new owners), including a negative comment from my co-worker noting the change in quality. So Friday evening for dinner, we decided to try Gourmet House for the 1st time. Food was actually very good - in fact we were impressed with every dish we ordered for our family of 5: appetizers: egg rolls and BBQ pork Main dishes: Dragon & Phoenix (Governor's Chicken + Shrimp w/ Veggies), Walnut Shrimp, Mongolian Pork, Kung Pao Chicken, Beef Ho Fun (same noodles as chow fun at other places) and a side of Pan Fried Noodle. The walnut shrimp were very large, and the sweet sauce was delicious. Beef dish was delicious, and the Kung Pao Chicken was not too spicy. Next time we will likely increase the size of our Governor's chicken order, because it was yummy. I also want to try a Lo Mein dish next time, and mix in some veggie dishes. We also had leftovers which we'll enjoy today. They seem to give a larger proportion of meat in their dishes compared to others we have visited - nice, I feel like we got what we paid for! All of us drank ice water, and it also tasted fine with no well-water smell as in other restaurants. Looking forward to going back! read more

We have ordered food from this place several times. The food and service has always been very good. Unfortunately I was not very happy with my order today. We ordered a moo shu dish. The pancakes smelled very doughy and seemed not cooked all the way. I paid for and ordered extra sauce that I did not receive. I also ordered wonton soup that appeared to be egg drop soup with a couple of wontons thrown in! Tons of stringy egg floating around wontons is not what I had in mind and was borderline gross. I had always considered this one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area and worth the drive halfway across town. Not sure I will make the trip again. I hope it was just an off day! read more

This is the best Chinese restaurant in the area. We ordered the firecracker chicken, beef with broccoli, and chicken and vegetables with a side of spring rolls. I've driven by this place many times, as I'm out in that direction quite frequently and would have never thought by the looks or name of the place that it served Chinese food. I decided to stop in there today because I had a taste for Chinese that I just couldn't resist. The lunch specials were very appealing, an entree, fried rice, egg roll and drink for around 6 bucks! I had the Walnut shrimp, and it was FANTASTIC I would highly recommend it. I was hesitant at first because I've had more than my share of bad walnut shrimp recipes but it was light crispy and just plain delicious. The egg roll I probably could have done with out but for the price it was ok. My SO had the orange chicken lunch special and he loved it as well. All in all I think that we had a pleasant experience, I would definitely go again if I was in the area. read more
