UDATE! A friend and I tried Governor's Pub a few days ago (my second visit, her first). I had originally left an unfavorable review after my first visit with my husband. Well, kudos to you guys there because everything was perfect this time! Super service, delicious food (including the fries) served in a timely manner and, as stated in the first review, the decor is very nice. Thanks to Christian of Governor's Pub for reaching out to me. My husband says you won't find HIM going back to this place. Tonight was our first time trying Governor's Pub and we were SO hoping it would be a nice new place in our wonderful town. What a disappointment. The burgers would have been very good if the giant chewy bun didn't overpower them completely. We were asked how we'd like them cooked, which was nice, and ordered one well done and the other medium well. They were both well done. The fries, which cost extra when you substitute them for potato chips, were over cooked, hard (1/3 of them inedible, brown tooth breakers) and were the cheap shoestring style. Our advice would be to have nice, soft sesame buns or plain ones, put extra money into some decent fries (thicker...maybe even steak fries or crinkle cut) and train the cook better. Service was slow and we ran out of drink, finally had to signal a server who wasn't ours. She let our server know we needed something but when she came over she didn't have a clue that our glasses were empty & had to be asked for refills. She didn't even apologize. Ate their yesterday. Arrived right at 12pm as that's when they open. There were 4 in our party and we where told to sit anywhere. Atmosphere was OK and the server took our drink order right away. Several minutes later we all placed our orders. 55 minutes later we got our food and 2 orders out of the 4 where wrong. The two Reuben's were cold. Neither sandwich was grilled as I would expect but served on toast. The server apologized and took the one order back and brought out the correct order however it wasn't cooked the way one would expect. She, like myself, had ordered a Grilled Reuben with Pub Chips, she originally got a turkey and lettuce and I got a very small amount of cornbeef on toasted rye (not grilled) and my Reuben was the cornbeef, swiss cheese and deli mustard. The lady across from me that got the turkey told the server and the server brought her back a Rueben, again on toast, not grilled and there was no thousand island dressing on it. She offered to redo mine but after waiting almost an hour I was hungry and ate what she brought. No discount no nothing. Will never eat their again and any cook that doesn't know how to prepare a Grilled Reuben with swiss cheese, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing shouldn't be anywhere near a kitchen. Others sitting near us also complained to themselves and to us and am not sure if they complained to the server. Absolutely terrible service!!!!! One of the worst I've ever experienced. read more

Drove 2 friends to Edenton on 9/1/2019 & stopped at Governor's for lunch. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Told out of straws, they were not. Never given utensils or napkins - went to the kitchen & got our own. Asked for a knife to cut meat - never given one. Got a bottle of ketchup from another table myself. Couple behind us ordered pizza, served it in the box and told them they were out of plates! Couple in front of us had to ask twice to get napkins! I tried to get the attention of the man dressed in all black who appeared to be a manager, but never could. I did notice that the rest of the staff were bringing out mugs with straws, utensils, & napkins to their customers, but ours couldn't be bothered; therefore, we couldn't be bothered to tip! read more

Ordered pizza to go and dined here many times and never a great experience. Just picked up a pizza that is luke warm. Not like it had been sitting there, just undercooked. Had to put it in the oven. Extremely light on the toppings. I gave two stars because it's Edenton and it's all relative. I love Edenton, but the quality of restaurants is way below average. read more

We have really tried to support this newest restaurant in Edenton, but last night will be our final visit. Very slow service and the food is certainly not worth the wait. Also, when asked if you would like chips or fries with your sandwich, please add that there is a $2 additional charge for the fries. Steer clear of anything fried unless you like very excessive batter fried to a total crisp with almost invisible meat in the center. read more

PASS! Service was very slow. We were not given menus. Had to ask for them. When our food did come, we had no silverware. Food was pretty bad. Greasy. Calamari was under cooked, you could taste the raw batter under the fried outside. The salad was like chopped iceberg lettuce with a couple slices of cucumber. Excellent food and service. I've been here twice in last week. We had pizza first time: excellent crust. High quality cheese. When I was leaving I noticed they serve Boar Head meats, so I returned today to have a sandwich. Perfect. Great meat. Excellent toasted roll. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. Great seating. Cold food, took 45 minutes to get it to the table. This is totally unacceptable. I had a burger and chips, others had burgers and wraps. Really. Nothing fancy ordered just lousy service, unless you're ordering alcohol. Get your act together or shut it down. read more

Pass on this one! This is more of a bar, than a restaurant....very limited menu, mostly sandwiches, appitizers and pizza. Only had four entrees, and only listed the price on one(chicken breast, $13.) Other items were marked, "market price". All beverages are $2, and only one refill! After that, refills are $1 each!!!! Wife ordered a cheeseburger and she had to stop half way through it and change the oil!! I had the chef salad, which should be renamed "lettuce & lunch meat" salad, ($9). I was afraid to order a beer for fear of maxing out my credit card!!!! Give this place a pass!!! read more

I have been to Edenton twice on business, and will continue to come at least once a month now. I visited here both times I was in town. The first time was ok. The waitress told us about a special and I ordered it. The food wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. Still, I decided to give it another try when I came back to town - I tend to be a creature of habit and like to find a 'spot'. This time I just got the grilled cheese because it was lunch time and I didn't want anything too heavy. Just the sandwich was $9.00. The bread was barely toasted (still white but not soft), and the cheese was barely melted. It's like the cook completely forgot to grill it, and the waitress didn't notice either before serving it to me. I felt like I was eating the cheese sandwich that my mom used to throw together for me when I was a kid. The French fries were another $2.00. Granted it didn't say that the sandwich came with fries, but the sandwich was so disappointing, the fries should have at least come with it. I did not send it back or complain to the waitress... if they didn't notice my sandwich wasn't grilled then I wasn't going to point it out to them. I just made the decision to find another 'spot' the next time I'm in town. *note that the sandwich was not grilled at all. And I say 'toasted' loosely... the bread was still white without a touch of brown on it. There is a difference between lightly grilled, and not grilled at all. I did not send the food back because it was lunch time and I did not have time to wait for it to be remade. The waitress was still tipped well. read more

Staff was very friendly. The steak sub was phenomenal! My wife enjoyed her mushroom burger, the one bite I was allowed was very tasty. We ordered fried pickles, which the waitress unfortunately forgot. To make up for it she bought us a few drinks! Would highly recommend! read more

Horrible Service, always take forever to get the food and when the food finally does come it's not great...wouldn't even say good. I have tried multiple times and it gets worse each time. I think the good wait staff were either fired for doing their job or they left because they know how bad it is. It will take a lot for me to go back! read more

This was not a good experience! Pub food took over an hour to get and then one was totally wrong protein and had to be sent back. The others at the table had to eat theirs as it was meant to eat hot. So not enjoyable. Go some place else!! read more

We've been here many times because we like a laid back environment and they are open when most places in town aren't, but I've just been unhappy so many times that I doubt we will be going back. I've tried many things on the menu and the only one I would order again is the cheesesteak. I've had the pizza twice and both times the crust was burnt yet soggy in the middle, and the toppings were not fully cooked. Disappointing because I really am missing good pizza after moving here - I was hopeful. I had a burger once and it was dry so I haven't ordered one again. Honestly the food I could deal with, it's not meant to be a gourmet restaurant, but the service is consistently lacking. Almost every time I have been our server has leaned on the bar chatting with customers, or just disappeared, only seeing her maybe twice the whole time we were there (this has been multiple servers, not just one).
