Returned for another round of bbq! We came right when they opened at noon so it was a quick wait to get seated. They weren't that busy yet so the server was more attentive this time. She explained the menu and even grilled some of the meat for us. We tried two dishes: the cold noodles ($17.99) and the seafood pancake ($19.99). Portions were small for both. The pancake wasn't even crispy and was definitely smaller than pictured from the menu. Taste-wise, the noodles were chewy and more sour, not spicy at all despite having the chili image. Mama Xita BBQ lent itself as a great experience (even with the lack of liquor license currently) We got the meal for 2-3 people set, and while it's not the normal Chubby Cattle wagyu stuff; most of the meat were cooked tender and dipping sauces gave the saltiness, nuttiness, and acid that it needed. Wrap it as a ssam, toss in kimchi into the mix, and then add the meat dipped in sauces and ... you can't go wrong here. Service was really awesome! Our server Eileen did a stand out job in cooking our meat and didn't overcook anything. Also, it looked really uncomfortable for all the waiters to do the cooking since the height and depth of the grill seemed ... not very ergonomic; so hats off to the staff for making sure we were all well fed and making sure we had everything we need. I honestly had really high expectations for Mama Xita. Perhaps that is why I felt like I was let down. We stopped by here for a late lunch on a Saturday and our wait time was only about 10 minutes. Our server was Jayden, who was kinda not on top of it. We had no tongs, we didn't have their sauce trays, nor their known sauce with sesame that they advertise on their tv screens, etc. We had to keep asking him for things. We couldn't tell if we were supposed to grill ourselves or if they grilled for us and ended up finding out that they do grill for you but we just asked if we can grill it ourselves to speed it up. Our Kim Chi stew took forever to come out, which we asked him a few times about it and he did end up apologizing to us that they ran out and had to make a new batch. We literally finished our meal and then it came out. Honestly, it tasted a bit fishy to me (although it doesn't have fish in it, it had clam and shrimp). We told Jayden at the beginning that we wanted to sign up for the chubby membership which he shared we can sign up at the end of our meal. So with the membership you can get unlimited sides which Jayden didn't refill but at this point I did not feel like asking for anything anymore. Inside is pretty clean, and I like the way they decorated the place. It did feel a bit warm inside esp. since the grill made us extra warm. When I asked for more water Jayden asked if I wanted it with ice. And my answer was yes of course. it was like 98 degrees outside so I definitely wanted ice to help cool down. I recommend doing what we did today, ordering the 4-5 persons combo: -highlights being the Angus Prime Steak in Ginseng -garlic Angus finger steak -honey soy Angus brisket -A4 Wagyu inside skirt -Signature Short Plate & Signature Chuck Roll Aside from the pork chops being a flop, probably pork belly would have been the better choice of cut, every curated Beef cut was superb. When the meat is that premium, please skip the sauces and just request some salt/ pepper/ msg mix and their soy bean paste to keep it simple. Really just need some light seasoning. I dare to say that MamaXita outperforms Baekjeong in every way, overall food quality, premium meats, the flavors, aromas, the texture in the mouth, the music, the interior decor, the Fresh Watermelon juice. Tried Mama Xita with a party of 3 on a Sunday. My party came in within the first hour of opening. It seems that reservations for weekends were not available online and we were worried about a wait. It's good that we did because I noticed the restaurant pretty full during our meal. My group decided on ordering the 2-3 person set menu and an order of cold noodles. For the set menu, we opted for the plain brisket and the tofu soup. Food was great! Meats were good cuts, I enjoyed the tofu soup (not too sour and not too spicy.) cold noodles were good too, but not as chilled when it came out. There were some hiccups during my visit. One being that the sauce that they charge at $3 a person ran out and wasn't given to us until the middle of our meal. Our server was also busy taking care of another table (which is fine) but then came in and put our last meat on the grill; it felt like she was trying to rush us out in a way. There seemed to be some technical issues too. The grill we were originally ally seated at didn't work and we had to be moved. There was also a large light that was constantly flickering which, if I was facing it, would've really bothered me. The set menu that we purchased would accommodate 2 adults but 3 people would be a bit of a challenge. It was a good call to order an extra dish for my table or I would've still be hungry. The set menu came with unlimited sides but there was only kimchi, spicy curd strips, lettuce and sliced radish. Even with all the small things, the food was good. I'd definitely come here again. I've been wanting to try Mama Xita for a while ever since they opened. I would always see crowds standing outside, and after finally eating here, I can definitely see why! First off, a big part of what made our experience so enjoyable was our server, David. He was super friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the entire meal. He also took the time to cook some of our meats for us, which honestly made a big difference. You could tell he really cared about making sure we were enjoying our meal, and that kind of service goes a long way. We really appreciated how welcoming and helpful he was the whole time. As for the food, we ordered the C Set, which was perfect because each meat was a little different from the last. There was a really good variety, and everything had its own flavor. The meats had flavors ranging from smoky to meaty and savory, and they paired really well with all the side dishes that came with the set. What I really liked about Mama Xita is that it felt like a combination of Chinese barbecue and Korean-style side dishes. It gave us something a little different than your typical KBBQ experience. The two styles of food actually work really well together, and there was a lot of variety throughout the meal, so we never felt like we were eating the same thing over and over. The first thing I noticed was the big light flickering every like 10 seconds. It was super uncomfortable for my eyes as I have sensitive eyes. Staff said theres nothing they can do about it. Everything is ordered à la carte from set menus, so you pay per order rather than having an all-you-can-eat option. My only downside is that for the price, I expected the restaurant to cook the meat for you, but you have to cook everything yourself at the table. Mama Xita was on a lot of our lists to try out and we finally got to try it today. We went in on a Wednesday and it was still popular and busy! The hype has not died down yet. We got seated around 45 minutes, most of the tables fit about 6-7 per table so if you have a big group you might need a room (not sure if they do). Our server Rachel was great! She explained how to order everything and recommended good choices. She was chill af, entertaining, and always checked in for whatever we needed. That's the 626 for you, but it doesn't affect my rating since it's not their fault. We parked on the curb since we were in a hurry to join the waitlist - turned out to be a 50 minute wait. Our friends found good parking with enough patience, they were able to since we had put our name down by the time they were looking for parking. We got the 4-5 person set meal as we had 5 people in our party and it was definitely more than enough food! The meat quality is great, everything is so juicy, moist and tender. The marinades and sauces were great . The pork was fine, it's not the best compared to the beef. Really enjoyed the soup. Lots of good side dishes. We ordered a few bowls of rice and an additional japchae on the side. Anyways, what knocks this down to 4 stars instead of a perfect 5 are a couple of things. 1. The rice is kind of whatever, it was hard and undercooked. Maybe it was the struggles of a busy Friday night, who knows. 2. The japchae was watery, more garlicky in flavor and lacking in sesame oil flavor and the noodles were probably not as chewy as they could be. I would not order this dish again, but it's a good dish with lots of veggies if you're fiber maxing. 3. Service was nice enough but the front and back communication was kind of lacking. It didn't seem like we had gotten all of our meats after a while, but we were told we got them all. After speaking to our server and manager they managed to sort it all out in the end and everything was fine after and we got all our missing items. Our server was still super nice. I think they were a bit overwhelmed given it was a really busy Friday night. There's probably less communication issues during a slower time, I'm guessing. All in all, really tasty for the most part. My friend and I ordered a 2-3 set meal. I would say for us two, we don't eat a lot a lot, so it's pretty perfect that this set meal really made us full. I server was pretty attentive and welcoming of our first visit. Ordering and everything was quite easy. I liked how the tv screens show tips on how to eat or what's best for the sesame sauce, which was very helpful! I order and banchan came out very quickly. First impression, everything seemed pretty clean and organized. The sesame sauce was definitely different and my friend and I really enjoyed the sesame sauce a lot! I like how you can also get unlimited banchan as well. All the meats were generally pretty good, there was one brisket that was a bit too fatty, but everything else was really delicious. I enjoyed the variety of sauces and the chinese cumin spice you can add to it too. We also got the seaweed soup which my friend really enjoyed. I was too full from the eat to have more of it, but I agree the seaweed soup was very flavorful and a palette cleanser. The overall experience does feel more like kbbq than chinese, which I didn't mind! I did like the fusion between the two, it's the best of both worlds. For many Chubby restaurants, they're known for wagyu cuts, but this set that we had actually didn't have any wagyu, which I may actually like better. The 2-3 person portion is closer to a 2 person portion than a 3 imo but it depends on how many sides you go through too. The soup it comes with is pretty massive and can fill you up with liquid. He noticed with that I am pregnant and offered to cook the meats fully as well as even change the grill to prevent any consumption of the burnt and charred bits. Our table was debating whether it was "smoky/char" flavor or just propane but we decided it was propane. It wasn't good. I thought the soup and side dishes tasted better than the meat. Ordered UberEats and I was blown away by the "Korean Beef Bowl Bento"! It usually costs $21.99 but since I ordered it pretty late at night (8pm), I snagged it for $11.99! It came with a huge bowl of white rice, bulgogi beef, and seaweed soup, as well as side dishes - kimchi, seasoned shredded tofu, and mashed potatoes. I was impressed with how generous the portions were, especially the beef and seaweed soup! The beef was so tender and not too fatty. My wife and I had a great first visit at Mama Xita BBQ! It's the newest Chubby Club branded location to pop up in the SGV. The concept is Chinese-Korean BBQ fusion and they are known for their sesame dipping sauce. It is not an AYCE restaurant, but a preset menu based off the amount of people in your paChubby Club members can utilize their discounts at this location. The check in/waitlist process is via the Yelp tablet. The location is quite big and staff here are all very attentive. The restaurant has nice mostly booth seating from what I could see. We only had to wait about 15 minutes as we came in around 9pm. We opted for the 2-3 person combo it was priced at $99.50/pp but members get $89.50/pp pricing. The set menu is the right amount of food! You get 5 plates of meat and a big soup of choice to share with a bowl of rice and Banchan at the table. The staff were amazing and gave great customer service. They assisted us with mixing their signature Sesame sauce to our flavor profiles. The meats came out all at once and their signature MAMA XITA GINSENG KING ANGUS PRIME STEAK was presented in a wooden box staff told us to knock on it for good luck. :) The ginseng king cut was easily my favorite! The criss cross cut and tenderness made it a table favorite for us. All the sauces elevated the flavors. The Banchan was all fresh. We opted for the Korean Kimchi Beef Tofu soup as our soup selection and that was a great choice. It had great spice and yummy flavors just add some rice to it and it's perfect. The dining experience was 5/5 just keep in mind it can get hot inside these BBQ spots from the grills. Overall, Mama Xita delivered a memorable first experience for us! Mamaxita is a Chinese/Korean fusion BBQ spot, and the meat quality really stands out compared to the typical kbbq places. I guess this is the first time I've been to a Chinese-Koream BBQ place although I'm now also thinking 'Meating' (RIP) in Alhambra was in the same category? But, the Chubby Corp. folks know how to setup restaurants. In a world of AYCE Korean BBQs, it was nice to not be at an AYCE venue so we took our time to enjoy the food more. The portions are good size and I suggest just sticking to the 2-3 / 3-4 / 4-5 menus unless you have a specific cut of meat that you want to eat. When they bring a lot of meat to the table at once, it's hard to know what's going on the grill but no one had a bad bite. We ordered too much food but you can cook the meats and take them to go. Guess what I'm eating for dinner tonight? Service was also good and the AC went out so they handed everyone Mama Xita fans. The wait can be long so prepare accordingly. The parking lot for this shopping center was already a bit hectic before Mama Xita opened and I can tell that Mama Xita's popularity is making parking even more difficult. Mama Xita is a great new addition to The Chubby Group, and we had an excellent experience from start to finish. We ordered Combo #1, which came with five different meats and a soup. The combo included the Mama Xita Signature Short Plate, Signature Chuck Roll, Signature Finger Meat, Ginseng King Angus Prime Steak, and Original Angus Brisket. We also upgraded our soup to the Galbi Tang, and it was definitely worth it. The soup came with two large beef bones, and the meat was incredibly tender and fell right off the bone. The standout for us was the Ginseng King Angus Prime Steak. It was beautifully presented with dry ice, had great marbling, and was juicy and flavorful. Every cut of meat was tender and paired perfectly with the rich sesame dipping sauce. One of the best perks was the unlimited sides and sauces for Chubby Group members. Our favorite side dishes were the potato salad, pickled vegetables, and tofu skin--we kept going back for refills because they were so good. A special shoutout to Joshua for providing outstanding service. Been hearing about this place since they opened and finally got to try it for dinner with the parents. We arrived around 6:30ish and joined the yelp waitlist through the tablet outside. The estimated wait was about an hour which wasn't bad and they text you when it's close to your spot. We went when we were 5th in line but we still stood inside for around 20 minutes or so until we were seated. They had iced water at the lobby area which was nice on this hot day. The host was nice and seated us quickly once it was ready. We ordered the Combo B which is good for 3-4 people and costs $142 normal price and $116 with Chubby membership. The membership is kind of worth if you plan to visit often and it accrues points and rewards. With membership, you get unlimited refills on the side dishes and their signature sesame sauce. The side dishes were pretty good and enjoyed their sauce as well. You place order through a tablet which was very convenient. The table setup is very much like a korean bbq spot. The meat was served pretty quickly and we grilled it ourself, not like some other kbbq spots. It was a bit hard to grill since the fan is very low and close to the grill to absorb the smoke. One of the wagyu was served on a wooden box with dry ice, very fancy. All of the meat were pretty good quality and not tough to chew but I still used scissors to make it easier. Most were also seasoned with a sweet sauce which was pretty good but got a bit greasy and started making all the meats taste the same near the end. The only meat I didn't like much was the pork because it isn't as tender. We chose the seaweed soup which came in the combo and it was good portion and tasty. Overall, we enjoyed all the meat in the combo but just kind of pricey and not super big portion. The meat quality did taste like high quality though. Our server wasn't that present since it was busy so just average service. He also made a mistake on our bill and forgot to add our membership discount but he fixed it once we pointed it out. My whole family came here to celebrate Father's Day belatedly and everything was AMAZING. This is a new US location of a BBQ chain that I believe comes from the Xita neighborhood (Koreatown) in my family's hometown Shenyang, China. Since it borders North Korea, there is a big North Korean community in the city and hence gave rise to a lot of Chinese-North Korean fusion food. All of the meat was so tender and juicy. Perfectly cut, seasoned, and cooked. The servers do most of this for you, juggling multiple tables at a time. The inclusive banchan and tofu soup were also great as sides when we needed a break from the meat. Unlike other BBQ places where you leave smelling like BBQ, the range hood vent was set low and incredibly effective -- our table didn't feel too hot or steamy and we were able to leave without smelling like our lunch! Between five in our party with varying levels of appetite, we ordered the corresponding group set. It was just enough to eat. We were all very full by the end but didn't need to take home leftovers. If you're considering ordering something else à la carte in addition to your set, I would definitely recommend waiting until later to see if you still need/want it. I saw mostly 5 star reviews for this new restaurant so I came to try it out Long wait times even on a weeknight, so plan accordingly. I also know someone who put their name down, went home and came back because the wait was over 1 hr. They give 10 min leniency after they call your name. I noticed there was a patio and a waiting room by overhearing the hostess. Unsure what the criteria is, but we weren't offered to go wait in those areas. I also heard some guests had reservations, and I think that's reserved for high level chubby members. I guess you gotta spend a lot of money to get that privilege. Otherwise, expect to wait a while like the rest of us. The ipad where you put your name down is in front of the restaurant, but most people come through the back bc that's where the parking lot is. Our server Bryant was probably the best part about the restaurant experience. He was attentive, and can tell he's out here working hard. I saw him be in charge of a couple of tables besides ours. I think because he was in charge of so many tables, he didn't get to come check on us as often. I also read some other reviewers that the servers cook our meats for us. It wasn't the case for us. They load the meat on the grill and that's it. We flip it/cut it ourselves. We went with the 2-3 people combo, and it ran $90 or so since we have membership. The most tender cut for me was the rib finger. The ginseng one is supposedly their signature, but didn't taste anything ginseng about it. Most of their meats are marinaded, and the marinade is pretty similar to one another. That's why the sesame paste sauce that is usually used in hot pots was a weird idea. I didn't think that sauce went with the meats. They also have other sauces if you ask. It came in a 3 section tray that had a dry rub usually for skewers, a vinegary one, and a garlic tasting one. The garlic one was the best. I also asked for salt and sesame oil, and Bryant gave it to us. The sides included kimchi, potato salad, lettuce, tofu skin, pickled radish, pickle cabbage with cucumber, and seaweed salad. I guess they were trying to do the fusion with Korean and Chinese here. Didn't think any of them tasted exceptional. I think I liked the tofu skin the most. So... overall a 3.5 for the food. The service is a 5/5. Would I come back? Maybe... it is slightly more expensive than Baekjong across the street if you're only ordering food for 2-3 people. I think I liked the sides from them more. Bryant was our server, he was amazing. Very attentive and constantly came by to check in on us even though it was busy on a Thursday night! This review is nothing against him, if you go try it out, Bryant is your guy. I'm giving this a 3 star not because it represents all the food, but because there was a lot of inconsistencies with the food. One thing I recall having trouble with is cooking the food! There was not a lot of space for the fats to drop in the pit, this would start fires well beyond the length of the tongs - I had to constantly wait for fire to die down and rotate around the pit like some imaginary bonfire was in the middle -_- The marinated pork belly was great, so was the rib fingers! I cannot say the other meats were great cuts, they would heavily require the sauces.. speaking of sauces, I don't think the sesame paste had any business being there. Don't get me started on ssamjang (soybean paste), that also did not mesh well with the types of meat. The star was the semi-spicy skewer sauce, that seemed to work best with the non marinated meats. Bryant did suggest us the 2-3 person combo, great amount of food. Even if they only give one rice, we get unlimited potato salad (with our membership), which I thought was the best side they had. I did not like the seaweed or kimchi much.. felt like it was preserved. There was a worry about wait times, the yelp sign in has some wildly inaccurate estimates. Always assume the max wait time +10-15mins. That's what we noticed with others around us as we waited. Would I come here again? Maybe if we selected meats instead of a combo.. maybe. Omg this place is incredible, which is highly expected from another restaurant that's part of The Chubby Group. There was a super long wait (over 2 hours) for this place, but it was worth it. We had such an amazing experience and satisfying meal. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and all around awesome. It was really cool to see their display of raw aged beef tongue, which is one of their popular items that we ordered. We also ordered the 2-3 person set meal with the shaken special finger meats. So they have this special umami sauce which consist of sesame paste, green onions, sesame oil, and something else, but it was the perfect pairing with the meats. As a Chubby Plus member, I came in genuinely wanting to support this location, but the front-of-house service was completely unacceptable. Management urgently needs to address staff training and floor oversight. We dined at 4:00 PM--well outside peak rush hours--yet the experience was neglected from start to finish. Upon arrival, we were met with an unwelcoming, visibly indifferent attitude at the entrance. Throughout our 90-minute meal, not a single server checked in for water refills or offered to replenish our side dishes. Instead, staff members congregated and chatted near the food pickup station while we repeatedly had to wave our hands just to get basic attention. Food delivery was just as careless. Dishes were set down silently behind our table without any acknowledgment, and we had to follow up multiple times just to track down missing items, including our soup. While the meat quality is on par with Baekjeong, Baekjeong provides a vastly superior standard of hospitality. To top it off, our assigned server disappeared entirely when it was time for the check, and a server from an adjacent section had to step in to close out our bill. High meat quality cannot compensate for indifferent, dismissive service. Until management institutes proper hospitality standards, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more
