Chicken katsu. But the outside Panko is hard
    GLENN F.

Out doing errands and look what's for lunch today! But... the Chicken Katsu coating, not the same, it's harder and not a light delicate crunch as before, the chicken meat itself, well thin thin, Neva have to pound um so much! No sides but extra chow fun, was the same. Satisfied? Not really, shucks!

First time in since the DOH shut them down a few weeks ago. They always hit with the chicken katsu. They were the original when I was a kid a long time ago! I had the hamburger steak and chicken katsu mix last night and it was onolicious.

Mixed plate - chicken katsu, pork cutlet with all fries

First time here since change in ownership which was a long time ago. Food tastes the same but cost more. Friday 1:05 pm. Only one cook. Food took over 15 minutes. $20 for a mixed plate (chicken katsu and pork cutlet) with a $2.40 up charge for fries.

I ordered the mochiko chicken plate with spaghetti, and it absolutely hit the spot. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside with that sweet-savory mochiko marinade that makes it so addictive. Each piece was juicy, flavorful, and fried just right -- not greasy, just crunchy goodness.

Beef cutlet...a sick amount of food!!

Today, I ordered a mini chicken katsu with fries and a mixed plate. (Not to be eaten at the same time. C'mon, really?!) The fries were exactly how I like them; soft. The katsu was not as good as it looked. It had been cooked some time before I ordered it so it was cold and a bit hard. Same goes for the chow funn. Very disappointed, again. The special mix today is roast beef, teri pork and beef stew. I subbed chili dog for the stew. Mistake. The chili was burnt. Couldn't doctor it up. It could not be saved. RIP. The roast beef is tender, and I was given a good amount, but not enough gravy. Plain meat at the bottom. (Yay for my BFF and frozen gravy pucks saving the day.) The teri pork is thinly sliced, is cooked on the flat top, stored in a warming bin until ordered. Pieces of meat are put into the plate and teriyaki sauce is drizzled over the top. Meat under was bland and porky. (the thick teriyaki sauce, when heated enough, becomes like candy and sticks to your teeth. High sugar content.) I really wanted beef curry, but that is tomorrow, 4/20/25. (Every other day.) Four mini meals for under $30. Cashier is always pleasant and the spacious dining area is clean and quiet. Lots of on street parking and free parking in private lot, just outside the doors.

Grace's is sadly one of the only places that has a good pork cutlet (gravy rice). We've been coming here for decades, even if it's a bit out of the way for us. It's the only plate lunch I know of that comes with a little serving of chow fun under the main entree. And you can buy kim chee on the side. Regular size plates come w/ rice and your choice of 2 salads (toss, mac, asian), Mini plates come w/ rice and 1 salad. Plates are still reasonably priced. The portions have gotten a little smaller, but the food is consistent. Lots of benches/tables to sit at in the dining area, but we usually do take out.

Grace's Inn is our go to restaurant for a good plate lunch. You can't beat it because they're been doing it well, consistently and for so long. This year will be Grace's 38th year in existence so they must be doing something right. Most people call their order in, however you can stroll up to the old school counter and place your order. There's a menu board that has all the regular plates and specials. The Mrs and I usually order the same plates--chicken katsu with two scoops of Mac salad and two scoops of white rice and a hamburger steak plate. I usually get it with brown rice and extra chow fun for $1.50 extra. They give quite a bit of chicken katsu and two hamburger patties with brown gravy all over. They used to give you Kim chee but those days are over, you have to pay extra for that. You can't beat Grace's Inn for a solid, old school traditional plate lunch!

We'll update on Grace's inn I used to go to the other location in Waimalu but they closed down . So today I was in the area of Grace's on Beretania craving for Chinese chicken salad since Donna .O and my sister said it was Ono . Well for me it was a little below average because the wun tun pi was stale , and the chicken was dry and their sauce was very tangy. I can make a better sauce than that LOL ! Service was friendly and whenever I go there seems like their A/C is always on the blink . The dinning room was very warm and not comfortable. So I quickly ate the Salad and I rushed out of there . Support local only whenever it's possible

I remember going to Grace's when it was on S beretania street right at the corner of mccully and beretania st by the rent for all store . Now that place is no longer there. And maybe it's the same one that moved next to the times Supermarket and Epi ya bakery. Shout out to Donna O for posting about their oriental Chinese chicken salad. It was very good had it for lunch. I wished they had more salad dressing with the salad don't know if we could of ask for another one. My husband said it was good except the chicken was just a tad dry. I said it was ok to me. Will buy it again and maybe ask for another extra salad dressing. Saw the daily menu maybe try something else to try. They are temporarily close on Wednesdays

It's been awhile since I've been to Grace's. I usually bought the roast pork plate. This was my goto at their former location on S Beretania St. That's was a long time ago. Anyway my wife read something from Donna O. about the Oriental Chicken salad. Yes it was good. Crisp lettuce, sprinkled with one ton pi and Chicken. They gave an ample amount of oriental salad dressing. There is seating for dine in, but it was warm. Ac must not be working. The overall the inside showed it's age Service was good. Enjoy.

Local food spot that has been around for years. This is my first time trying it. I wish I did earlier. The place looks like a modern diner. One of these cheap eat places. There were so many options on the menu along with daily specials. I had the chicken katsu plate, which I heard is known here. The food was made fresh. The chicken katsu so crispy and tender. Soo good. No need sauce. Got the mini size and ate it all! So many options that I need to be back to try other plates.

    Mini Teri Pork Plate
    Desmond D.

I come here about once a month when I have time. I usually get a Teriyaki Beef plate. This time I got a mini Teri Pork plate with Asian Cole Slaw. It took less than 5 minutes and was delicious. The meat was tender and the Cole slaw was fresh. The rice was also cooked well and fresh. The cashier was friendly and she is usually the one working the front. The seating area had about 3 customers. All the seats and tables were clean. I'll be coming again!

    Double cheeseburger
    Joshua B.

Can't believe I have to write this, but I feel it's worth sharing. This was my favorite childhood restaurant since kindergarten, so giving only 3 stars truly hurts. We walked in shortly after lunch with only a few customers, expecting quick service--but that wasn't the case. The dining tables weren't clean, which was the first disappointment. I ordered the Chicken Katsu & Fried Noodle combo. While the katsu was delicious, the portion was tiny, and the noodles were overwhelmingly salty. The double cheeseburger was even worse. The patty had no flavor, the bun tasted old and rubbery, and it was smothered in ketchup to the point of being inedible. I couldn't even finish half. The only saving grace--and the reason this isn't a 1-star review--is the katsu itself. I truly hope the restaurant takes these reviews seriously and brings back the quality it once had. Sadly, because of this experience, we won't be returning

We picked up a half-pound of Hawaiian-style spicy poke, which was super fresh with a nice kick of heat, and it paired perfectly with the furikake wonton chips we already had. Honestly such a great snack combo. We also grabbed a sushi tempura roll and were surprised by how good it was since we saved it for the next day for an early morning snorkel sesh: it was fresh, crispy, and filled with big chunks of shrimp, easily better than what some sit-down restaurants serve. The crispy Japanese sweet potato drizzled with a bit of honey was incredibly comforting and homey, and a nice balance of sweet and savory. We also tried the chicken katsu, which had a light, crisp breading and came with fluffy white rice topped with furikake. The side potato salad was refreshing with nice, chunky pieces of potato and not overly heavy. Perfect spot to grab quality food quickly before heading out to do other day-long activities. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and way above typical "market food." Would absolutely stop by again on future trips.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

There was no sincere apology, no real concern shown for my wife, and no sense of urgency from the staff. The restaurant eventually voided our bill, but only after I told them I would pay and leave. It felt more like an attempt to end the situation than a genuine effort to make things right. What should have been a simple apology and some empathy turned into a very disappointing experience.
