Tsukenjo is one of my favorite breakfast spots downtown. The service is always great. I got the Mushroom Spinach Omelette with white rice and a fresh brewed coffee, and it was exactly the kind of breakfast I like: light, simple, satisfying, and cooked just right. The omelette had a nice balance of egg, mushrooms, and spinach, with the white rice making it feel like a proper local breakfast plate without being too heavy. It is a great way to start the day if you want something warm, filling, and still on the lighter side. Their lunch menu also looks very popular, and from what I understand, they can sell out early. Great authentic Hawaiian breakfast for a very very decent price. I had a half order of French toast (2 pieces on punaluu sweet bread for $10) and a spam loco moco. This was the best French toast I've ever had in my entire life. I NEED to find that punaluu bread to keep in my own house because ohmygoshitwasincredible! Finally got to try this location. I used to work so close to where they were before and ate here frequently! Walked in and honestly, it felt the same, which was good! The nostalgia was on point. Parking is street parking only. Take out or you can dine in. They have breakfast until 10am. Their lunch menu is hand written on a white board. You can either get a mini, regular, or combo 2 choice! Mini is usually enough for me and I got the roast pork with gravy. Yum!! I missed it so much! They take card (with a fee) or cash. I was craving authentic Lau Lau away from the busy Waikiki area and came across this spot on the edge of Chinatown. For about $16, the Lau Lau plate came with your choice of mac salad or greens, rice, and an extra serving of Kalua pork. They also offer a mini size if you prefer a smaller portion. The regular plate was hearty and could easily feed two people. I used to pick up breakfast here on my way to work, but it was too far to backtrack for lunch. However, yesterday and today I arranged to finish my workdays early and made it a point to stop by here for lunch. Yesterday, I had a mixed plate of Beef Stew and Pork Chop Mushroom. I liked the stew -- it tasted like what I grew up eating. The Pork Chop Mushroom was different -- boneless pieces of meat in a mushroom gravy. It was a lot to eat, but I was able to finish everything, including the mac salad. Today, I had to try their Hawaiian Mix plate (laulau, long rice & kalua). The Hawaiian plate was massive and could easily serve two people. I enjoyed it but couldn't finish everything in one sitting. When I came here for breakfast, it was usually still dark outside. These two days eating in for lunch was nice, and I sat close by the windows -- actually being able to see outside. I get different vibes from ordering and eating at Tsukenjo. It's good, local-style food made by local people. One reason I keep coming back is that I knew of them at their previous location at 705 Cooke St. in Kakaako. One of my favorite places to go when I stay across the street at the Marriot. The best part of this place is the amount of food you get and the pricing. Can't really beat the price for this place as it's actually still under $10 for basically home made meal for some protein and rice. Breakfast special is my go to The place is small. Had a rare morning off getting my car serviced downtown. After doing a little shopping in Chinatown, I made my way to Tsukenjo's for brunch. They are located near the Union Mall walkway on Bishop Street between Beretania and Hotel Streets. It's mostly take out, with about 5 2-person tables available. Craved breakfast, so I got the Local Special (2 eggs, rice, 2 pieces each of Spam, Vienna Sausage, & Portuguese Sausage) with the fried rice upgrade (+$1). My usual, the Early Bird Special (1 each of everything in the Local Special), is only available until 8 am. My food came out soon enough, nice and piping hot! The fried rice had a decent amount of meat in it. Meat, eggs, and rice, the perfect local breakfast for me! Ho doesn't like an affordable plate lunch in downtown? This was my first time here and definitely not my last. For downtown the prices are on the more affordable side. They give heaping portions so it's well worth the price. They have daily specials. On Thursday's the specials include pastele stew so I tried that and shoyu chicken. The pastele stew was delicious. Very flavorful and had lots of meat. The shoyu chicken was soft and falling off the bone. The sauce wasn't too salty. I will definitely be back to try other specials. read more

This is a very affordable place. $13 for a regular plate. Came for a roast pork with gravy but it was sold out. They had a few sold out items by noon so better to come early. My first time coming here and I got to say, it's really good. From my understanding they rotate their menu daily but repeat every week. I went around lunch and there was a line but it moved really quick. This place is nice because all the food is already made so it's more like grab and go than wait 25 mins for ur food to cook. Parking isn't the most convenient but when you can get a street spot right out front, you're golden. The miso chicken fell right off the bone and the fried chicken had good flavor. (Still prefer zippys fried chicken tho) you can pick between toss salad or Mac salad. This place is a little gem on Bishop St!! The Pastele Stew and Fried Noodle Plate ($14) was humongous and sooo delicious. Definitely big enough to share between 2 people. I normally don't like olives but the olives in this pastele stew went so perfectly well with the dish I could eat them all. Also holy moly they really scooped the fried noodles on top! A small hole in the wall place located on Bishop Street, right across from the old Remington College building, Tsukenjo has your local favorites on hand. I go there in the morning for breakfast since they are reasonably priced. Please see attached photos of their most recent menu. The same two ladies are there working hard. They are very friendly and strive for customer satisfaction. For the amount of food you get, the price cant be beaten. Definitely a more local twist on the McDonalds local deluxe platter or Jack in the Box's breakfast platter. You can tell the food is "cleaner" and cooked fresh. They have an array of soft drinks in the cooler and specials daily. The restaurant is small, two story, and is air conditioned. There is no public parking. You will need to find street parking on another adjacent street, in a parking structure, or just walk there if you are close by. Would I go out of my way to get here? Probably not. But if you are in the area and are looking for a good, non fast food, breakfast and a place with many options, then Tsukenjo is the place. Their lunch options, I have to say, are ono. Again, I wouldn't go out of my way to get here, but if you are in the area, you DEFINITELY should grab lunch there. Cheapest and most tasty plate lunches in the area for sure. read more

Straightforward tasty plate lunches at decent prices in downtown Honolulu. You walk in and there's usually two ladies behind the counter. The first lady takes your order and your payment and the second lady puts together your plate lunch. They are very quick (and friendly too). They are very generous with their serving portions. You'll walk out with carrying a hefty lunch container, especially if you order the Hawaiian plate. I'd call their plate lunches local comfort food (homemade and satisfying). I've enjoyed everything that I've ordered here. There is one dish (reason for 4 stars instead of 5) that was tasty but I had a hard time eating. It was the shoyu chicken. You could still see the chicken's feather barb sticking out if the meat. Visually unappetizing. Other than that, the kitchen looks clean, the owners are friendly, the food is good and the prices are reasonable. I will be back to try the different daily specials. read more

Open through covid, serving up some good homestyle plate lunches from a tiny hole in the wall downtown. I've had ups and downs here, but Tsukenjo is delicious and consistent enough that I keep coming on back. My biggest complaint is that they sell out of the good stuff, fast. My absolute favorite so far is the chicken cutlet with gravy, a Tuesday special. However, my lunch hour starts at 12, and the only time I've been able to get it is when I have an opportunity for an earlier lunch. Even the mini plate has a hulking pile of fried-chicken style cutlet smothered in rich gravy, which everyone in front and behind me in line ordered. Inject it straight into my veins~ Their roast pork is legit - pull apart, slow cooked, with all the fat marbled around garlic and rosemary flavors. Portion size for this one disappointed me for a mini plate, but it pairs beautifully in a mix plate. Furikake panko chicken was top notch as well - it had a sweet teri glaze on the skin, crusted with a furikake dusting. Flavor explosion. All plates come with rice and mac or tossed salad. Toss is a nice mix, with a sweet dressing (papaya seed maybe) that makes you feel a little better about your life choices. Prices are up there, with a mini at 7.75, reg at 10, and a mix plate at 11 I believe. Depending on your choices, a mini chicken cutlet could be two meals worth for some people, while the mini roast pork is one. Either way, I don't mind paying up for this legit kine food from two of the nicest aunties in town. Update: stopped in before work for breakfast, snagged an early bird special ($4) + fried rice ($1). Simple, delicious breakfast - 2 vienna sausage, 1 portugese sausage, 1 fried ham slice, and 1 egg on rice. Easy comfort food for $4. The fried rice had a nice assortment of meat, but waaay too much black pepper. So much pepper. I don't remember the last time a dish started to get spicy because of black pepper. This is the same Tsukenjo that used to be located on Cooke st. Now open on Bishop St in between That place subs and Bread of Life. This is a downtown lunch spot there is no restaurant parking just street parking available if you have a loading zone sticker. HOURS M-F 530a-2pm Mini plate: $7.50, Reg $9 and mixed plate $10. They also have affordable breakfast specials for $5. They have a daily menu and Daily specials that rotate. I had to check this place out as I keep seeing a line out the door with local people so must be Good! The ladies inside were friendly and efficient looks like the food is cooked prior and kept warm so the plates come out very quickly. Inside is clean and has about 5 tables of you want to dine in. Most people are taking out instead. I tried the mini hamburger steak it wasn't bad definitely homemade and the gravy wasn't too thick or salty. They can do all toss salad for .50 more. The popular items here are the roast pork, garlic chicken and pastele stew. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu! read more
