Let's start with the food, had the chicken fried steak and it was great, service was fantastic. Also enjoyed all of the old antique cooking and storage for food items that they had the place decorated with. Seen several things that my Grandparents had, it rekindled a lot of great memories. Small place right next to the state capital, so there's plenty to walk around and see while you're waiting for a table. They actually missed part of my order, but then immediately offered to comp it. If you don't have a lot of time, might not be a good place to stop because it seems like sometimes the wait is long, but even though we waited for a table, and then a little bit longer than I had expected for food, it was still a great experience. After waiting 45 minutes our breakfast finally arrived cold, undercooked and and below average. I had the Biscuit and Gravy Bowl. The gravy was canned, the biscuit was was more like a thick cracker, and the mushrooms were raw. My wife had a veggie omelet. Her veggies were not cooked and the hash browns were not only not brown but parts of them were still frozen. The best part of our breakfast was our waitress. She was super friendly and made our experience enjoyable. We heard from the manager as we were complaining about our food that our waitress is a top notch student with a 4.0 grade point average. We want to wish her the best but our advice is to find the nearest Denny's which is 5 star compared to the food at Gramma's. We will NOT be back. read more

I've gone in to eat and they were closed for 1-2 days with no explanation or warning. They are one of a very few places in the area that serve breakfast. Came into Gramma's in a group of 5 college students. While waiting for our food, my friends and I were laughing and were yelled at to quiet down by a waitress. Less than 5 minutes later an older man was talking and laughing just as, if not more, loudly and was not responded to in the same way. The food was pretty bland but the milkshakes were good. Gramma's sits right off Highway 55 as you drive through Cascade. This homey restaurant whips up a variety of breakfast and lunch items that take you back to your own grandmother's kitchen. Better said, that is the goal. My take on Gramma's is, at most, it's good. I can't say it's my favorite breakfast spot but it's not the worst. And it's also a good alternative to other eateries in McCall if you are willing to drive down. It also tends to be less busy, however you can expect to be asked to wait if you visit on a Saturday/Sunday mornin'. My husband and I dipped out of McCall to avoid the crazy Sunday brunch rush and stopped by for a quick bite here. I'd been mad craving some good ol' fashioned sausage B&G ($4.49 for a small) so that's what I ordered right as I sat down. My husband chose to delve into the Blueberry Pancakes short stack and added 2 eggs, with orange juice to drink ($3.49). The biscuits and gravy were goooooood. Served fresh, made that morning, HOT, with large chunks of spicy breakfast sausage in lots of creamy gravy piled on a split homemade biscuit. Yes, they biscuits really were homemade. It was excellent. I wasn't the biggest fan of my husband's blueberry pancakes. They end up charging an extra $0.75 for EACH pancake that has blueberries, the menu isn't clear about it. Also, there weren't much at all. It definitely was just ready-to-make pancake mix, not even the sweet cream kind that some establishments wisely use. I did appreciate the choice of maple and berry syrups. Overall it's worth stopping by especially if you are hungry and the lines in McCall are ridiculously long. Yes, they have had labor shortage problems, which were especially acute during the pandemic, and that's probably why some people complain about the service. In the area looking for birds. Needed to grab a quick lunch so we didn't miss anything. Wanted warm food. We were quickly seated. Our waitress came over to take our drink order. The large milk is very large. The hot apple cider was very tasty. The soup of the day was chicken minestrone. There was lots of chicken and vegetables. It was just what I needed to warm me up. My husband had a short stack and 4 links. The links were tasty but salty. The pancakes were fluffy and as large as the plate. Stopped in for breakfast since we are at the Inn up the street and it was recommended. I am leaving two stars because they were efficient. The food is mediocre. Doesn't have flavor or flare. It is ample and you will be full but you won't exactly remember it. The dining room was filthy. We were sat at a booth in the back and it didn't like as if it had been wiped down, vacuumed or sanitized in years. My bench seat was covered in pancake or biscuit crumbs, syrup and jelly. The floor was atrocious. It did not look as if it had been vacuumed since they opened. The bathroom was equally as gross. I did see a "chef" and a help type going in there as we were leaving but when washing my hands before eating I did not feel very clean, so I used some extra sanitizer. We were on our way to McCall and decided to have dinner on our way. After checking on Yelp's reviews, we decided to come to this one. The restaurant seems to be old family style. Lots of old decorations on the wall. I ordered the country chicken fried steak with clam chowder, it was just too good. The Clam chowder was creamy but not fattening. It's just perfect. You can finished the bowl without feeling stuffed by the cream. The fried steak was perfect, very juicy and tender with crispy coating. I couldn't believe I finished the whole thing. I don't write many reviews. When I do, it's either because of a great experience or a poor experience. In this case Gramma's food was good. This review is due to our service, not because of the food. We all enjoyed our meals. The day before my in-laws went for breakfast and stated the food was good but the waitress was grumpy. Today we went with them. First off, we had a different waitress than what my in-laws had the day before, so they had high hopes of having a better experience. Wrong! Our waitress was dry, not friendly at all, appeared to be in a hurry, and here it is a Tuesday morning and the place was half empty at 9am. Whatever....so: She got my wife's food order wrong. Due to food allergies we gotta have it corrected. They did correct it, but no one likes returning food to a cook, At least we don't. The worst part to me, no one EVER came back to offer us a second cup of coffee. We needed a refill about the time the food showed up. We even tried 5 or 6 times to get the attention of 3 different service staff to get a cup of coffee. It wasn't until I had to get loud, borderline rude, to ask if someone could get us some coffee while waiving our cups in the air. Very disappointing. Thanks for reading. read more

I don't typically stop here for food since we tend to make our food over the campfire while we are in town, but I heard they had Huckleberry milkshakes and I just had to stop by and try them. WOW! The milkshakes there are better than any of the milkshakes I've had in McCall or Boise. They are so thick and creamy. You can tell they are made with fresh huckleberries too. They definitely got the spot. Every time I'm in town, I make sure to stop by Gramma's and get a delicious huckleberry milkshake. They are always quick to make it, the staff there is quite friendly, and it's such a pleasant experience. Best place in town to get your milkshake craving satisfied! read more

Grandmas is a comfort food place. The biscuits and gravy are enough for two people. The service is fast and pleasant. The atmosphere is friendly and the old memorabilia reminds us of our own grandparents house. The soup is always spot on. The cook Stephanie has been putting her heart into every meal. Disclaimer: Basing this on a single experience so take it as you will. Won't be coming back. Menu- Comfort food, nothing special. Food- Ours was received cold and underdone. More on that further down. Restaurant- points for being clean. Service- This is where I have a massive gripe with both the service and the kitchen. Our service SUCKED. We we're checked on twice in an hour. We had a drink and food order then nothing for almost an hour. We we're never checked on after that, not even for a refill. Apparently our ticket was misplaced. Now this wouldn't have been a big deal had we been checked on. It would have been clear that something was wrong had we been checked on. It's not my job to flag down my waitress to ask her whether or not our food is on the way. Finally after almost an hour we got our answer and then less than a minute later, the food. Gripe #2: It was clear that some of the food had been sitting out because it was either stone cold or piping hot and mushy; Chef Mic(rowave) to save the day! That's a major no no in any restaurant anywhere that takes itself seriously. If you can't correct a mistake within minutes on an order, let alone 2, refire the whole order and explain what happened. Overall- we got zero apologies. Some members of the wait staff were extremely rude. Had to tell the owner what happened. Hopefully this issue gets rectified quickly. It's a shame to see places like this stay open by virtue of the fact that they're one of like 5 restaurants in a tiny town. read more

keep driving down the road people. i have stopped at this place for years but the service and overall cleanliness has gone way down. i only stop when i am traveling from north idaho to boise. i counted nine different people working today. there was no one in charge. yes they were busy. however, 30 minutes to be seated. 30 minutes for-order to be taken. 30 minutes more to get food and check. 30minutes more while myself and 5 other customers-stood in line at the cash register to pay. no ones topped to take money? they just kept doing their own thing and ignored those of us wanted to pay and get out of there. how can that many people be working and be that disorganized? robert irvine would have a stroke. sorry folks. not stopping again. sad. poor way to run a business . read more
