I stopped by Grams Bar B Que and had a mixed experience. The vibes inside were great welcoming atmosphere, clean space, and polite workers who made me feel taken care of. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the quality of the service. I ordered a 1/2 slab of beef ribs for about $45 before tax. They *looked* perfectly seasoned, but the flavor just wasn't there. It honestly tasted like pepper seasoning was thrown on after cooking. The biggest disappointment was the texture, the meat was extremely tough, easily the toughest ribs I've ever had. The only highlight was the barbecue sauce, which was actually pretty good, but not enough to save the dish. Overall, despite the nice vibes and friendly staff, the food missed the mark for me. Nothing about this experience would make me return

First time eating a meal here & it was delicious! I was craving bbq and remembered I walked by this place before while heading to Electric Barber close by. I got there at a decent time for a Thursday & there was hardly anyone there which was cool bc I was able to place my order and receive my food in a timely manner. The service was friendly and the setting of the restaurant is welcoming. The inside is decorated with very unique paintings. Pricing was fair for the amount of food given. This place is doing great in my opinion.

I had high hopes for this place . I have always heard about how good grams bbq is and how I have to try it . After the catacombs tour at mission inn me and my boyfriend wanted to grab a bite to eat so we decided here . When you first walk in its smells good and you can smell the bbq cooking In the back . But after that it goes downhill . The girl working the front was having to go back and forth from the front to the back but she handled everything well and was friendly . We decided on the ribs and we got the mac and cheese , baked beans , yams and some cornbread . All together it came out to 50 dollars and sadly it wasn't worth it . The ribs were good and had good flavor but they were extremely hard to chew . The Mac and cheese was lacking in flavor and left a lot to be desired . The yams were way too sweet it was inedible as the same with the baked beans. The catfish was good and had good seasoning to it . The cornbread muffin was extremely dry and it was hard to eat . For the cost of this place and the food taste it's sadly not worth it .

The food was delicious. Because it's a bbq spot it takes awhile for the food but well worth the wait! And it's located off the Mission Inn, so great scenery and tons of people watching if you are sitting on the patio.

This restaurant is small but cute, it gives family vibes. The staff is very helpful, kind and funny. I ordered the fried shrimp with extra fries. My shrimp was crispy the way I like them and seasoned really well. The food is cooked upon your order so it'll take some time for your food to come out but I'm sure you'd rather your food be fresh and delicious than quick and nasty. I'll absolutely be back to try the rest of the items on the menu!

The service cashier was pleasant and helpful, the food quality was mediocre. I ordered the red snapper and shrimp combination with fries. It was seasoned well. The portions are very small for the fish size. Everything was good until I got to the last piece of fish that was hidden underneath the shrimp, it was old and not cooked fresh.

Local art. Cool as we just visited the Cheech Marin Chicano Cultural Museum, which is within walking distance. A good day

Great service by Jay. Quaint ambiance for authentic BBQ. I have food allergies, therefore I was unable to indulge like my family did w/their meat meals. I did however taste my daughter's "fried green tomatoes" , nibble of my husband's bread & taste the mild sauces. Super yummy I thoroughly enjoyed the candied yams & grilled vegetables. Local clientele was friendly & some picking-up food-to-go, which speaks volumes to the quality of experience. Hubby & sweetheart-in-law weren't 100% on the brisket, but everything else was very satisfying.

The restaraunt is quant, homely, and has great music playing. The service is quick and helpful, and the staff is pleasant. The food is terrific! Everything on the plate was delicious. The mac n cheese was the weakest dish we had but it was still flavorful. The sauces were really good, the tartar sauce was different than the usual white fan fair, this sauce was an orange color with a nice tang 8/10 would recommend and return

Went on 10.1.2022. Ordered the catfish plate with a side of baked beans and an order of Pork tips with baked beans. The portions were perfect. The flavors were excellent. We sat outside on the patio in befitting weather. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. read more

Oh, my what a surprise. I loved everything about this place. The food was amazing and the service/staff was friendly too! I had the pork ribs and pulled pork dinners. Every bite was a party in my mouth. Don't miss out. The ribs are so tender, they just melt in your mouth. The meat is seasoned to perfection and the coleslaw is so sweet and tasty. The food was amazing! I got the Pork Rib dinner with Mac and Cheese & Candied Yams + Corn Bread! Pork Ribs were tender and fell off the bone! Mac and Cheese was so savory and delicious! Candied Yams were soft and sweet! Only downside is that being a disabled person with a Service Dog that was clearly vested and working, they denied my working dog access. I do hope they learn to comply with ADA laws in the future to avoid any legal problems. (-2 stars) read more

Definitely not worth the cost nor your time. Pretty expensive (50 for two) but that would be ok if it's solid BBQ but it's not. Pulled pork was way over sauced buddy said brisket was same... wouldn't even finish it. Sides not good... canned BBQ beans and cole slaw was inedible. They told us at the table - after our purchase - that they "ran out of corn bread" but since it was complimentary (it's not - it's on the menu) we wouldn't get anything in return. Don't spend your hard earned money at a place that doesn't even try. read more

I loved the Beef Brisket and BBQ Baked Beans. The Beef Brisket was tender and tasty. Served good portion for a dinner size plate. Lunch plate is like a small size snack portion but dinner plate served a lot more. If you are really hungry order a dinner plate from menu. read more

A couple of us visited this place on Friday night shortly after 7pm. My friend ordered the tri-tips and I ordered the slamming sides. The food was delicious and the staff were very helpful and nice. The staff really take care to explain what you are going to get and how it's cooked. I am a vegetarian so that's good information for me to know. I selected the collard greens, yams, and vegetables. My friend had potato salad and I will get that one the next time because it was soooooo good. We also noticed not to many people eating inside, but alot of people seemed to order to go. Either way the place seems very popular and my friends and I are definitely coming back!!!!! read more

I work right across the street and had already been looking to conquer any eatery that barbecues beef. So after checking out a art event, my Son we enjoy the weather and walk the block or 2. He was ready and slobbering for a Fried Green Tomato Sammy, yum. My smart Son ordered well. That thang was a monster. Like your Grandmas biggest, juiciest tomatoe from the patch on your plate....but cornmeal coated and deep fried. It was on a large round wheat bun, with lettuce and mayo. The slices, I hear were manly...almost meaty. My Son chose fried okra as his side and they included a little mixed veg. I went for the lunch Beef Rib plate, which came with 1 side. I picked the mac n cheese. Usually that never misses. This time it did. It did have steam coming from it, but it looked old and beat. They used a long macaroni noodle, and a cheesy gravy, with jalapeños. There was hard melted yellow cheddar on top. Hmmmm. They also provided me with a lil mix veg, sorry to say it went untouched. Now the BEEF. Okay, I am a avid griller, I know my meat. There was no carmelization on neither bone or fat of the rib, which indicated it was Not grilled. They tried to slather it in a sweet layerless sauce to make up for the meat texture, which felt like the consequences of being boiled. Possible oven baked after. No And NO. I wasnt even full. Ive decided to give their po boy a try in the future, but no Sur or Mam on the beef ribs. When we walked in it took about 10 min to be greeted. The price was aroun 27 bucks. The restaurant is clean and quaint. There were 2 other patrons. read more

This is my favorite place to go for a pulled pork sandwich. I always tell myself to try more menu items but I just can't go here without getting my fix. I recommend having it with the cole slaw. Among the sides, the potato salad is the best. It's creamy and you can taste the ingredients. This time around, my mom and I were totally wowed by the sweet potato pie! It's normally great by tonight that was the MVP of an already great meal! The restaurant itself is one of those good hole-in-the wall places that runs based on he quality of their great food. Don't expect amazing customer service (some of the cashiers can be rude) but the food totally makes up for it! Come ready for a lot of food too. The portions are very generous. read more

Delicious home cooked food. I came in during my 30 minute lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of people that were also in the restaurant. I was concerned i wasn't going to have enough time to eat, but once i ordered it must of only been 5-7 minutes before my food was out. I ordered a shrimp poboy lunch special with Mac and cheese as my side, i added a drink and my total was $16, which i think is extremely reasonably priced for a seafood lunch, side, and fountain soda If you're in the area, please stop by. The food was ok. We ordered 4 family packs, a rack or ribs and some brisket spend about $200 or more. The food was cold when we got it. We waited for tables for a party of 11 since the place is small and it was really busy which we had no problem. When it wasn't so busy we got a small table to put all the food on since it was alot and had no room on our tables we were eating on, the gifts and cake were on a small bench since it was my moms birthday. The lady yelled across the place ma'am can you move your gifts from that table and put it on the other 1 since your using that 1 then had the audacity to turn around to the other customers and say oh sorry about that I have to deal with that all the time. read more

Been wanting to eat here for awhile now, but kept forgetting about it. So glad I remembered today, reminds me of driving through the South when I drove OTR. Grams nails it, the greens, Mac n cheese!!!! Maaan, the greens were delicious a lot of barbecue places don't have greens which round my whole experience! This is my second check in here in 2 weeks! The food is delicious! But they only get 3 stars because they are constantly running out of key food items. And often times the cashier takes your order unaware of which foods they are out of. The chef cane and explained that they restock on Mondays when they're closed so they often run out of a few things on weekends. Well weekends are their busiest days and they should be better prepared for that. It's disappointing to have your taste set on something on the menu to be told they are out. Get a better food ordering system and review your inventory process. That would help move you to a 4 star. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. My husband ordered online at 4:53pm and they took a whole hour. When he asked the lady what was going on why was it taking so long, she said she never printed his ticket. And then had to reprint it. Terrible service not to mention he spent 70$. I don't think this place is good. Especially not to wait an hour. Just like they don't get my business. They'll never get my husbands again either. EVER read more

Smells sooo good, too bad I didn't get to eat the food! Stood there for 10 or 15 minutes for someone to come up and tell me "you can't order off that menu after 10pm" when the couple in front of me, that kept changing there minds for the last 10 to 15 minutes. Soooo you're telling me because the cashier couldn't say anything and apologize that it took soo long or even taken my order as the last order, because she told the couple in front of us if they "wanted off the menu that ended at 10pm they should order NOW" was just really upsetting. Before I get into the food, I first want to comment on the girl taking our order. What's her deal? She was having a bad day or wth? She had some shitty ass attitude towards my girl and I when we were trying to be friendly. And the reason I say this is because after use 3 other black couples ordered and she was all god dam friendly, and soon after some other non-black couple came in to order and she gave the same vibe to them. I rarely mention workers service because I understand how some days are just off, but this was to noticeably disturbing I had to mention it. Any who, the food itself I had mix emotions about it tbh. The hot link was dry and tasted old which came with a sorry ass hot dog bun. Our sides also were cold and tasted mediocre maybe because they took forever to give us our order, which made no sense since we didn't even order so much food. O yea did I mention that even the people that ordered a whole ass family meal after us got there meal before us which made no sense. I was legit about to pass out of how hungry and hot it was in their building. For the beef ribs we got, they were good but nothing crazy meat didn't fall off the bone was very chewy. Low key I'll go to dickies before I go to this place again. The food didn't even look so good so I decided to not even take so many pics. Every time i come here they get my order wrong or i get chiped. They give me chicken with pieces missing or give me a thigh instead of a breast A super dry corn bread...and this is a 12oz Pleasy Cheesy Macaroni..not so pleasing. I give up here! As pricy as it is ud think the food and service would be up to par...gues u dont have to try so hard when ur the only soul food place in a 20 mile radius. read more

I ordered the pulled pork and the pork tips and it was off the hook. I also had the fried Green tomatoes and the mac & cheese. I almost thought I was back in South Carolina again. If you like barbecue, it's the best in Riverside. read more

During Festival of Lights came into Grams; ordered a shrimp Po'boy and chicken and waffles, waited 30 minutes to find they forgot about the chicken and waffles. They made it got back to my hotel and found they gave us all knives and no forks. Needless to say I ate my now soggy and hour old shrimp po'boy and chicken and waffles with no forks. read more

I tried the pulled pork sandwich with steamed veggies for lunch and was delighted with the juiciness and flavor. There was plenty of meat and the meal filled me right up. There was also a side of pickled carrots and jalapenos, which gave it a nice kick. The service was wonderful! Our waitress was warm and made the experience pleasant. Our cook, which may have been grandma herself, was also delightful. The music selection was also cool and made the experience fun and happy. The place itself is like your average mom and pop restaurant or hole in a wall establishment. read more

Im still waiting for my food. It took an hour for just one waffle and chicken wings. They served many people who came in after us with way larger orders. They messed up three orders since I have been here. Maybe because it's late at night? But I know we deserved better than this. They didn't even talk to us or tell us why. We had to sit here and watch our friend who ordered right before us completely FINISH her food while we waited and waited and waited for the order. I appreciate the place being open late, but I don't think I will be back. Update: If I could give 0 stars i would. They never even gave us our food. We kept waiting and asked many times. They finally said sorry and that it was never even made. We got our money back and are still hungry. read more

Nice downtown vibe/ambiance. I had the catfish dinner. It was tasty, but I would have liked bigger pieces of fish and less potato salad (the fish felt almost like a side). This is the place to go if you dont want to be disappointed. Grams place has been around for like 200 years, and you can taste it too because it'll take that long to master a recipe that damn good! I really like this place because it's never fell off and it always taste great! If I ever said anything good than it's "eat at Grams!" You wont be disappointed!! read more

First time trying this place and I can't say it was all that good. Staff was friendly. Slow service for a BBQ where the meat is already cooked, and the cuts we're awful. I had the beef brisket and my pieces were overcooked and rubbery or straight fat slabs(see attached picture) gross, I didn't eat 3/4 of my brisket because I couldn't stomach it. Mac and cheese was good, coleslaw good, cornbread dry and fell apart . I didn't even bother trying to pick it up it just fell apart. No pride in their BBQ. read more

Warning, they do not answer their phone, but take online orders only using the Toast app. I had to use Google to find the link, new address, and place my order. I am unsure if this, the original Riverside location on Riverwalk Pkwy, is closed. I do not live near the original to confirm one way or another, however months ago the owner had said they were closing. The menu has pretty much remained the same. Okay, I want to make it clear that I am not her to frivolously review a neighborhood restaurant…read more Small businesses are the backbone of our country, specially important and black, woman and minority owned. So here's my good and not so good. Good: the service here is amazing, friendly attentive and I watched every dine in customer receive extraordinary care. The portion sizes are huge and the whole restaurant felt like you were in someone's own kitchen on a weekend morning with all of the right smells in the air for a great brunch. Here's the not so good: it took 4 minutes shy of an hour to get lunch for 2 (2 order of chicken tenders, side of red beans and rice and an order of hush puppies ) prepared. Although the booths were full, most of the tables had their food, so it didn't appear to be a lot of tickets stacked up. When my order was finally delivered, and I took the10 minute drive back home, I opened the bag to fund 3 brown paper bags, wet, soggy and soaking in grease. Because the food hadn't been allowed to cool a bit and it was placed in a plastic bag with no way to vent out steam, every item was soggy and falling apart. The fries were wet and soggy, the chicken had all of the dry coat falling off and most the seasoning was pulled off of the batter that was left because of the water and steam. Additionally, the red beans and rice were so wet, they were almost soup. One of the orders had potato salad as a side, but to received overcooked soggy fries instead. The hush puppies were way over cooked, they had passed the golden brown cook level and were a black brown color and were sort of flavorless and really soggy from the heat of the plastic bag. I'm sure that most of this could have been avoided if I hadn't placed a to go order. But I'm leaving this review so that when you order from this little gem, you consider dining in or asking for the foot with plenty of lead time so that they don't rush, improperly pack the food for transit (let it cool off a bit) and have the time to make sure the order is correct, and cooked to a standard that best represents the business. Pomona needs Day-Days as a locally owned, black owned soul food restaurant. Switching from plastic to paper bags and giving the food time to vent will go a long way with quality for the customer. In the end the food tasked good, I'm sure was prepared with love, but fell flat on the delivery. All of that said, patronize this restaurant!!!!

My only critique is that the sea bass did not taste or look like sea bass to me; it looked more like catfish. Other than that, the food was solid. Carlos, the young gentleman who helped with our order, did a great job. All of the servers were very nice and continued to check on our table throughout the meal. I would also recommend adding some music or R&B ambience to give the restaurant more of a soulful environment. Overall, great service, good food, and I would definitely recommend this spot.

They lacked the flavor and soul I've come to expect from a place with such a long-standing reputation. Now for the good news: the mac and cheese is still that girl. No matter what's changed, their mac and cheese remains firmly planted in my top 5 comfort food dishes. Creamy, cheesy, and exactly what I remember. Maybe this was an off day, maybe my expectations were too tied to memories, but this visit left me wishing for the R&R I grew up loving.

The restaurant was packed, and it actually surprised me because I don't usually see that many people at restaurants in Riverside. The energy inside felt lively but still comfortable. One of my favorite parts was the fresh tortillas. They come out hot and fresh from the oven, and you can literally watch them being made right in front of you, which made it even better. And the best part is they're free. We ordered the carne fajitas and chile relleno. The fajitas were incredible, the meat was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor, with that perfect smoky sear that comes from being cooked fresh on a hot skillet. Everything came out sizzling and stayed flavorful with every bite. The chile relleno was also really good, with a nice balance of savory and slightly creamy filling that paired well with the sauce. It was actually my first time trying fajitas, and I can confidently say I'll be ordering them again the next time I come back. Me, my son, and three of his friends grabbed an early dinner on a Friday afternoon. The first kid ordered pork ribs. No can do, they're out of pork ribs, so he orders the beef ribs - two ribs to the order. The second kid orders gumbo. Nope, out of that too, so he also goes with the beef ribs.There's a minimum of seating both inside and out, but the staff helped us out by sliding a table up to a booth to make room for all five of us. We sat down and they brought our drinks out to us. Then the cook came out and said he only had three beef ribs left, but that one of the kids who ordered them could take one rib and pick another meat. The kid selected brisket. When they brought the food out, one kid got the two ribs, and the other kid got a brisket sandwich and no rib, which we had to ask for. We were all supposed to get corn bread but only some of us got it. At this point, I didn't care anymore. I just wanted to eat, regardless of what showed up on my plate.The boys seemed satisfied with their food. I found my brisket to be greasy and a little tougher than I prefer, but it had a good flavor. The potato salad was excellent. The red beans and rice were just ok.I'm willing to say that the food in general was good and any difference I had with it is to be chalked up to personal preference. I'll also let the missing cornbread and whatnot slide. At least fifteen people converged on the place right behind us and chaos ensued. What I can't understand, though, is how a BBQ restaurant can be out of ribs at 4pm on a Friday afternoon. read more

Let me just say this: if I could give it more than a 10 out of 10, I would. Twice. The customer service? Phenomenal. And I don't throw that word around lightly. Jay was the person who helped me, and let me tell you this young man knew the menu like he wrote it himself. Friendly, consistent, approachable, and actually seemed happy to be there. I haven't had service like that in years, especially not from a group of young people. Y'all, there's hope for the next generation after all. The ambience? Straight-up comfort. Warm, inviting, peaceful it felt like home. Not your auntie's "don't sit on that plastic couch" home, but your real, soul-hugging childhood home. Now let's get to the food. Baby. Listen. I ordered ribs, hot links, shrimp, yams, greens, and cornbread. Every bite delivered, but the greens and cornbread? They unlocked a core memory. I was back in my grandma's kitchen, swinging my legs off a chair too big for me, with that first spoonful of love in a bowl. And the Kool-Aid? I haven't had Kool-Aid in years, and somehow it was still cold, sweet, and slightly rebellious just like it used to be. It was freaking amazing. Prices were solid too. Worst place to ever go to service is horrible and workers are very rude... Will never ever eat there again nor recommend this place... I ordered the pulled prom sandwich an it was my first time there and I'm sorry to say but it was so gross and had raisins in it.... I nicely went inside and asked for a refund just for the sandwich and the older African American guy rolled his eyes at me and called the older black lady who was probably the owner but she was so rude about it, and said well you ordered it so you can't get a refund? It was my first time there and I will never be back.... This place is delicious!!! I had their Cajun chicken sandwich and it was so flavorful you could just tell how much passion and soul they put into their food! I ordered on DoorDash since I'm working from home and everything was packaged wonderfully no spilling in the bag. The fries were a little cold but I live kinda far away but even though they weren't hot they were still crispy and delicious. The potato salad was fantastic and the lemon cake was so so good. I'm gonna try the pulled pork sandwich tomorrow. I love knowing I'm supporting a small business and will definitely be ordering from them and eventually going into eat. I was very skeptical about trying Gram's because of all the mixed things I hear, but I was craving BBQ so I decided to give it a try. I came in on a Saturday after the farmers market. There were a few other families eating inside. I ordered the pork ribs, mac-n-cheese, and corn bread. Overall, the meal was yummy. I love soul food and dig the "rustic" style. The ribs had a great smoke flavor, although could stand to be more tender. I loved the mac-n-cheese, but the cornbread was inedible and hard as a rock. The food did take a little long to come out and was served in Styrofoam, even though I ordered it for "here". Sure it wasn't the best BBQ I have ever had, but it filled my belly and my craving. read more

Chicken and waffles. I recognize this... Chicken is dark greasy throughout, that's due to chicken sitting under a heat lamp and then refried. I can't blame the soggy waffles on them. Because it was a to go order and I took a shower before I dug in. The flavor of the waffles was good. The baked beans are really good, if you take that dry cornbread and crush it in the baked beans it's absolutely delicious. Why didn't I order the brisket again??? Should have known there was a problem when we first arrived because the outside dining area was a disaster! They were out of several sides and at first said they were out of pork ribs. It was 6 pm on a saturday night and they had nothing to serve? They "found" some pork ribs in the back somewhere which were dry and lacking flavor needless to say we will not be back. The owner needs to keep his employees off the cellphones too. read more

If it wasn't for the food this place would be a bust! Customer service is lacking. I decided to order some food for a small family get together and ordered based off of their online menu only to find out the pricing is not the same. What should have been around $70 cost nearly $100 with no explanation other than pointing to a 'new' menu in the wall. No amount of good food is worth being taken advantage of. read more
