This was my first time eating at Cowboy. There are some things they do right here, and some things...not so much. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich and fries. I wish I had known they have onion rings, but I didn't see them listed on the main drive-thru menu. I have to say that although I've never been a fan of the Lawry's seasoned salt they use on the fries, these things were the freshest crispy crunchiest fries I've had in a long time. Even with the seasoning, they were really good. The sandwich had several fairly thick slices of tender beef and a decent BBQ sauce. The meat seems to be smoked with hickory, which is not my favorite wood for smoking, but it was still OK. Santa Maria-style oak smoke would have been better. I was given some little tubs of something white, which I am guessing is either supposed to be ranch or the Cowboy Island Sauce, but it just tasted like a mix of mayo and sour cream. It had no particular flavor, and I wasn't sure what it was for. Some horseradish sauce would have been nice. Cowboy really needs to update their drive-thru menu. In addition to the onion rings, I see that Yelpers are mentioning fried zucchini, ribs, and tacos on Tuesday. None of those were on the drive-thru menu. I wonder what else I missed out on. They apparently also have pastrami and gyros, but those were listed on flyers posted at the service window. The young man serving me was very pleasant and quick in his work. I will be going back, but I think I'll walk in so I can ask more questions and make sure I'm not missing out on anything good. read more

5/2/23 I brought my food group here today (19 people). First time here and we loved it.. Employees are extremely nice and friendly.. The Food was ready good.. I had the veggie burrito and I was impressed by how good it was, lots of flavor.. Everyone in group was talking about how good the burgers and Pull pork sandwich was.. The roulette wheel of Friday lunch stopped on the Cowboy Burger and we felt like we won the lotto! It is rare to have a walk up counter for burgers and bbq provide the trifecta of food, service and value. They did. Thank you Ciara. I had a double cheese burger combo with big onion rings ( where the coating stayed on after you bite), the fresh lemonade really hit the spot. Others had the bbq brisket with potato salad that was moist and flavorful with a side of fries and a crispy fish sandwich. There were some chili cheese fries with a salad (I guess for balance) and both got the approving nod. Again we have the advantage of going to lunch after the rush and it really helps with the service and ambience. The ambience was enhanced by the Raincross decor mixed in with the western motif. We've anticipated this place opening since construction seemed to take forever. Worth the Wait! We chose the drive thru, the gal was so patient and had lots of great choice suggestions. We chose the tri tip sandwich and the bbq Angus burger, fabulous! Plenty of tri tip where some even fell out of the sandwich, sauce was perfect per hubby and he's not a fan of onion rings but he ordered them anyways and ate every single one. Crisp and not too thick of an onion slice. My burger was thick and juicy, delish thick bacon, melted cheese; perfect. Loved the seasoned fries, plenty are served. I have tried ALL of their menu items and every single item tastes amazing. Every food item is house made here on site. Their house made tri-tip, pulled pork, chicken, hamburger, potato salad, cole slaw, and brownies. I am REALLY picky and do not normally eat any fast foods, but Cowboy Burgers & BBQ is one my favorite restaurant. They are family owned (NOT a big chain restaurant) and the family supports a lot of local charities/non-profits along being huge supporters of military service, medical, and public service personnel. I tried to order a patty melt, but they do not serve at this location. We ordered the pulled pork sandwiches. They were the worst sandwiches I ever had. They're dry!! We even put sauce on it. They were still dry. Will never go there again. read more

I noticed there was a Cowboy Burgers here in Riverside and decided to stop in for a bite. I've previously been to the one in Rancho Cucamonga and had good experiences there. My most recent visit was no different. I went with the tri-tip samich which was scrumptious. The only con I can think of is that it could use more fix-ins. Well my experience for today visit. It went okay. The food didn't jump at me like I thought it would. As for the food ordered "Tri Tip sandwich" Not juicy and was a little tough, like it was in a heated tray and dried out. They put bbq sauce on it , to help juice it up a little. But okay to eat at least. "Pull Pork sandwich " Also very dry. Just like the other sandwich. Pork must of been in heated tray and dried out. BBQ sauce added to help juice it up a little for taste. But also okay to eat a least. " Chili cheese fries " They we're okay to eat. They have there own spin on chili. That made it enjoyable to eat at least. I liked it more than the sandwiches. "Brownie " FREE- Was for walk-in people only today celebrating opening. But I talked to the girl, in drive thru window and asked for a piece as least. She got me one. It was Very good to eat and tasty. The best of all 3 items. Overall Visit okay. Normal tasting BBQ food. Would i recommend them. Hmmmm YES- for okay BBQ food. Nothing to go out your way for tho. I want this place to do well, but I understand why it's not better...I ordered a brisket sandwich with extra bbq sauce and a side of fries with ranch. I get home and the sandwich has no bbq sauce and very little meat, the fries are cold, and the ranch is missing. $17 for a sandwich and fries - no drink...I can go elsewhere for fresh food that tastes better.
