When I paid for the entrance, they automatically added a "tip" for literally nothing other than checking us in. I tried to change the tip amount because I did not feel a tip was justified, but the employee noticed what I was doing and immediately accepted the payment without even giving me the opportunity to sign. That is completely unacceptable. A tip should be optional, not something that is automatically added and then rushed through before the customer can even review or change it. Avoid This Place - Dishonest, Disorganized, and Power-Tripping Door Staff If you want to be lied to, ripped off, and treated like garbage before you even step foot inside, this is the place for you. I completely agree with the recent negative reviews. The door girls working on July 5th & same girls worked a previous day I came to watch the world cup game are an absolute nightmare and are actively killing this business. I had a confirmed reservation for 6 people inside in the super club room. I received multiple texts and emails confirming it, and I even called ahead to double-check due to some of their reviews of not honoring reservations. When I arrived, the door girls told me to step out of the regular line and to come forward because of my reservation. Then, they completely refused to honor it, claiming they no longer had any available tables inside. Their "solution" to a 6-person reservation was trying to force us onto a tiny, round-top table that barely fits 2 people, located outside in the blistering heat. When I refused, the girl with the clipboard walked up who I figured could help and would have better customer service but who clearly thinks she runs the show but has zero customer service skills rudely told me that if I didn't take the tiny table, I had to go to the very back of the line. Mind you, they were the ones who told me to step out of line in the first place. It gets worse. These people are completely unethical and dishonest. They charge you a cover fee at the door and sneakily add their own tip onto it without telling you. If you aren't aggressively checking, they will happily rob you blindly. The only reason this place gets any stars is because the food is actually good, and the waitresses and bartenders are nice. In fact, our waitress was the only reason we got a decent table outside. But management needs to wake up. If you are not going to honor reservations, turn off the online booking system. Fire or retrain the power-tripping, dishonest girls at the front door. Until they fix their unethical staff, save your money and go somewhere else. Another concern is it does not seem like management cares because I see zero responses to concerns on here. read more

Came here for my bday to celebrate with my friend they charge to get in so my friend paid , while my friend paid the door lady with the highlight added her own tip in which is stealing. My friend tried to undo the tip and she clicked it and went away . It was three options it was the middle option she chose: then she had the audacity to come up to my friend who paid and said I know y'all recorded me and I'll refund it and we told her if you need the tip that badly to steal you can keep it. Love this place for a night out! Great music, great vibes, has an authentic Latin feel. The space is huge with both indoor and outdoor areas. They serve food late which is nice and the quality is pretty good, would say better than your typical bar menu. Had some late night nachos that were delicious, empanadas were okay. As for the service, which is why I docked one star, was a little slow, and both times I came here the servers only spoke Spanish (luckily was with Spanish speaking friends so wasn't an issue). read more

As a note: this is to comment on the food and dining experience. Not the the dancing portion. You'll see in this review. It was hard to tell by the website it turns into a club by 8:30pm. We walked out feeling disappointed and deceived. We had quite the experience at Fabian's. After finishing an evening by the pool, we were looking for a quick bite in the area and had heard a lot of great things about Fabian's. So we ordered a car to take us there. However I think they subverted all our expectations and not in the best ways. First off, I'm not reviewing the experience of the dance floor. We had no idea it was a dance club based on the website. However they still seated us for food? I later learned from other individuals in my group the bouncer made comments about our clothes and questioned if we'd be staying long, even criticizing some of the clothing. Additionally of the group of us, even though we all had bags i was the only one asked to check my bag. Again we came from the pool. Luckily I didn't have my wallet in there. If it was that much of a problem, it's okay to tell us to go somewhere else. I kind of wish we did. Once ordering food, it was hard to order amongst the loud music. It was so loud that by the time all our food came out, many menu items were missed or inputted incorrectly. For example, three orders of rice and beans and two ceviche were in our order. We got two rice and beans and one ceviche. A fish taco became a shrimp taco order. If an environment as loud as this wants to serve food, maybe an online ordering model works better. I will say, we were all very surprised about the food portion sizes. One taco was enormous, as were the size of the arepas. Many of the dishes were very large. Even a side of rice and beans was enough to get me full. We were filled quickly. With my onion cilantro and scallion allergy, I could not have too much. The Puerto Rican tostones I could have were good. I also could only have rice and beans. The taco would've been ok with my allergy they said but it was one of the items that came out wrong. Additionally, there was a resounding note that any dish with chicken in it was very dry. Finally the thing that really made me begin writing this review mentally was the somewhat shady practices throughout our experience. Chips and salsa were served on our table when we were seated. We found out when paying the bill that the two plates of chips and salsa were not included, but added to our bill. Good thing we checked out bill since the items that we ordered that didn't come out still made it to our bill. Gratuity was added to our bill but not out right states. Therefore we accidentally tipped twice on an experience not worth double gratuity. While some may know it's expected to have it included when 6 people dine, if it's not it's preying off of not knowing to get us to pay more. I'm not very satisfied with how our night went. Our intent was to look for dinner. We thought this would be dinner. Maybe had we known what to expect we could've reframed our expectations. But unfortunately we were let down. We hope our experience is something others can note before they decide to come here for food!! Maybe it'll be different if we were looking for a night to dance. read more

One of my favorite bars to go to in all of Houston. The city doesnt have too many decent latin clubs and I just happen to live down the street from the best one! This place used to get crazy packed but now they have expanded and own the local next door as well. This was a great move on their part because this place was small and in high demand. Now you get to go and have some personal space which is great. Drinks are nothing special but service is always good whether you are ordering form the bar or you get bottle service. This is one of those bars where you don't have to wait forever to get someone's attention at the bar. The bartenders here are really on it and it makes A HUGE DIFFERENCE. Additionally, Fabian's plays the best music on Main St. in my opinion but I am latina so I may be biased lol. I haven't tried much of the food here but after a couple of drinks one time we ordered the steak nachos and they were amazing. I am not sure if it was the alcohol hitting or if we were just hungry but OMG we still talk about those nachos! I am taking one star off because it is the one of the only places down main st that charges a cover. It is $20 to get in most of the time. I understand that its a popular spot but damn LOL. I can only speak to my experience with their catering as I have never visited the location myself. Contacted them about a month before booking them for my husband's 40th birthday which was held at an adjacent bar. They were recommended from the bar owner and it was a solid recommendation. Communication was excellent, catering proposals and quotes were given as requested within a few days of the request. Compared to other catering/restaurants I looked at, they were by far the most reasonable option in terms of cost, quantity and variety of food. We went with a menu of empanadas, tostones, and beef/chicken tacos with rice/beans etc. All were of the South American/Columbian variety which is not familiar to me but I was overall impressed with the flavors of the cuisine. One huge surprise on the night of the event was that while the agreement included catering delivery and set we actually got a full-service option with chafing dishes, plates and tableware along w 2 waiters to serve the food! Really upped the ante at the party and took it to the next level. Co-business manager Gustavo was there making sure things went smoothly and even Fabian stopped in to check on things, very nice guy! They both explained since they were down the road they could come back if we needed anything at all which was very kind. Was really impressed and appreciative that they made this effort to ensure a successful event. There was plenty of food and the quality was excellent and flavorful. Best empanadas and guests raved about the beef tacos. They also transitioned the food from their chafing dishes provided takeout boxes once the service ended for guests to pack leftovers. Will say that Gustavo was professional however a tad pushy as he interrupted us rather abruptly several times with reminders to eat while the food was hot (my husband does not like being told when to eat at any time lol). However I do get it as we all have a timeline and sometimes people need that push to eat at a party. Overall excellent choice for catering and exceeded my expectations! read more

My husband and I waited two months to spend a night Downton, watch a show and looked forward to some tostones at Fabian's. (I haven't had them since I was 9 years old.) We were greeted by 5 officers at the front door at 8:35 for our 9:00 reservation. When I walked into the establishment to greet the hostess, the security guard without asking for consent began to pat my husband down. In the process he grabbed my husband holstered weapon. My husband let them know he was an off duty police officer, carrying his ID. Because he was carrying his service weapon we were not allowed to enter the empty establishment. We were wearing jeans and dress shirts and I have now read online they may have a "dress code." Additionally, that the establishment basically becomes a nightclub and not a dining establishment after 8:00, which begs the question, "Why take dining reservations" for 9:00 PM? PS: Fabian's: The bad guys with weapons will not ID themselves and let you know they are carrying. You are keeping the good guys out. Thank you for making safety a priority...but reconsider your outdoor staff and this asinine policy. And, I have encouraged my husband to file charges against the "security" personnel who clearly don't abide by consent / or contact laws. read more

I liked Fabian's! This was my first time and it seems like the focus is more on the atmosphere/dancing activities for later in the evening rather than the food, so that's something to keep in mind. The only downside is that they don't offer tap water and bottled water was $3/bottle, so that was your only option. I had the fish taco, which wasn't bad and a beef empanada which was pretty good! The only downside was that the fish taco had cheese, which I wasn't aware of and the taco was somewhat dry with no sauce/lime offered. Overall the flavor was good though! A good sized dance floor is outside as well as a huge bar. This spot really feels like going out in Mexico and having a wild tequila fueled night. Everyone is dancing and having fun, super welcoming crowd. I suggest calling ahead and reserving a table if you want a place to sit on their busy nights. Extremely reasonable pricing. - Calling Out Discrimination at Fabian's Latin Flavors -this is my dear friend's experience last night Hey friends. I need to call out the homophobia I experienced last night at Fabian's Latin Flavors on Main St. It was such an upsetting experience that left everyone in the group shocked and really pissed off. For me though, this is the 1st instance of homophobia I personally experienced or witnessed from a downtown Houston bar. Last night my friends and I went out dancing to celebrate my friend's birthday. The last planned stop was Fabian's Latin Flavors. We arrived at around 12:30AM, paid the $20 cover, then entered the club. As we move through the space, we decide to go to the back of the venue. So we proceed outside to the courtyard and gather at the fountain, right in front of the entrance to the other part of the club. As we are filing in through the door (keep in mind people are flowing in and out freely) three of our group make it in, when the bouncer suddenly stops me from moving forward. He flashes his light at my shorts. I assume he's questioning what I'm storing in my pockets, for security reasons perhaps, so I pull out my phone and keys and raise my arms. The bouncer keeps shaking his head and continues to flash his light. I lean in and ask him what's up, and he tells me my shorts are too short. I relay the message to the rest of the party and we walk back to the fountain. As we're standing there and looking around, we see other people wearing shorts and skirts of all fabrics and lengths being allowed entry into the back. Two of the three people in my own party who got in were wearing shorts, one of them wearing the same exact length of shorts as mine (see picture attached). At this point reality is setting in and I'm feeling very overwhelmed. It's not about the shorts. It's me. They're not letting _me_ in. One of the three friends who went into the back comes outside to find us. He asks us why we didn't follow them in and we tell him the situation. He then goes to the bouncer, talks to them about the shorts, shows them the shorts that he's wearing, then comes back to our group and says, "The bouncer said it's fine." Whew, right? All those feelings of discrimination start to melt away and, I'm hoping it's just a misunderstanding. As soon as I get to the door the bouncer flashes his light at me again and says, "No, not him. His shorts are too short." Talk about traumatic whiplash. I feel tears start to form in my eyes as the vibe I felt earlier is indeed true: it's not about the shorts. It's me. They're not going to let _me_ in. So we leave. On our way out, one of my friends tries to talk about the situation to one of the managers behind the hookah counter, but she just shrugs. Apparently homophobia is just not that big of a deal at Fabian's. So. Why am I writing this? Because no one should have a celebratory night out with friends be tainted by bullshit double standards and be denied entry for an absolutely erroneous, veiled reason like "your shorts are too short" when the other people in the friend group (not including the other patrons of the club) are also wearing shorts. I did not pay $20 for a homophobic interaction by the venue staff and honestly. I want my money back, as well as the money for all eight of my party. read more
