This waffle shop opened up in Selden Market years ago and Sophia and I finally had the chance to stop by. It's part of the Virginia company Capitol Waffle Shop which has locations in the Richmond area and Harrisonburg. Not only can you select sweet waffle items, but also savory ones as well. We came in when they were nearly empty with an hour left of operations. Would this 1st visit result in happiness or one of disappointment? The business itself looks fantastic. There is bar-type seating next to the counter and in the back a good amount of tables. Each table have disposable forks and knives available and a few have waffle syrup. And the walls are covered with pictures and quotes. If you don't want any soda, they do offer complimentary water and cups for you. Thumbs up from me. After a minute of looking over the menu, we were ready. I selected the Buffalo Chicken Waffle which consisted of lightly fried chicken bites, buffalo sauce, ranch and crushed Doritos nacho cheese chips. It did take a minute to get used to this concoction, but in the end it was really good. The waffle itself was baked perfectly and most importantly, did not become soft nor soggy from the toppings. Very important. I would've liked a bit more drizzle of buffalo sauce and ranch, but this right here worked from the first bite to the last. Sophia ordered the chorizo egg and queso waffle and enjoyed it as well. That could be an item to order the next time we stop by.. It took too long for us to give them a try, but I'm glad we finally had the chance. Truly a hidden gem in the Norfolk area. We'll be back again soon :)

Wednesday 8/14/2024 Came across this spot a few years ago while I was watching Mr.chimetime on TikTok so I had to see what's up. It located in the selden market and has customizable waffles that can be savory or sweet. I made a takeout order and got the one sweet waffle $11.49, bacon cordon waffle $12.05, and full size house captain crunch chicken & waffles $10.99. - One sweet waffle * This SWEET (diabetes) waffle comes with blueberries, strawberries, Oreo toppings, m&ms, and chocolate syrup. * The waffle was pretty intimidating and SWEET (of course) but all in all, it was solid to me. I know kids and lovers of sweets would be all over this waffle. - Bacon cordon waffle * This SAVORY waffle comes with bacon, fried chicken bites, onions, melted cheese, and more cheese. * This was a pretty good waffle and it was easily my favorite of the 3. - House captain crunch chicken & waffles * This is just a plain waffle with captain crunch seasoning/crumbs & fried "chicken" bites but it was a huge disappointment. * Waffle was decent but everything else sucked: the "chicken" and captain crunch seasoning/crumbs were both awful. * The "chicken" didn't taste like real chicken but instead tasted like low quality freezer chicken nuggets from the store. Overall, it wasn't as good as I expected but it was still a cool experience and I like the idea & concept. I would recommend this spot for those who LOVE waffles.

We enjoyed our original waffles with custom toppings! They were well made and quick to be served. We visited mid-morning on a Saturday and had no wait. Prices were reasonable. The GWS is connected to both the Slover Library and Selden Market, which made for some fun adventures after we ate. We will be back with family & friends next time!

By far one of my favorite spots to visit on a sunny weekend for brunch! Everytime I walk into my establishment I am greeted with a huge warm welcome that makes me feel as if im apart of the family. Their Mimosas are Delicious, and the Captain Crunch Waffles will definitely have you coming back for me that's why I keep going back! If you're ever in the Downtown Norfolk area around brunch time I would definitely take time to check this place out!

The Food was great, cost was low and the gluten free options are plenty. service was hit or miss during the time we were there. The ambiance was very almost casual cafeteria over all a great experience will come back for sure.

This restaurant definitely offers something different! I opted for the bacon cordon waffle and the flavor combos are interesting. The waffle was a bit sweeter than I expected, but cooked great, as was the breaded chicken. The toppings were a bit over the top IMO but combined it was a good bite for lunch. The shop itself was clean and the staff were very friendly.

This was a fun place to stop in Norfolk. They have a large variety of savory and sweet waffles. We tried a wizza, a pizza waffle, a Buffalo chicken waffle and a waffle with bacon eggs and cheese. The bacon egg and cheese was our favorite. They do have some outdoor seating as well as indoor. Order at the counter and pick up your meal.

This place smells heavenly even from the entrance. Service on this day left something to be desired - better service. The person who took our order didn't have any life to him - didn't greet us, didn't smile - it was clear he didn't want to be working . I started our ordering the bowl with scrambled egg but told him I changed my mind and ordered half chicken and waffle. My friend did too but ended up paying for the scrambled egg on a waffle. Good thing was the fast and great service gotten from the manager regarding my friend's refund! The waffle was good, the chicken wasn't breaded like traditional chicken and waffle, more akin to nuggets! Maybe next time would be a better experience over-all.

Love the gentleman at the counter! He was very pleasant and helpful with the menu. I tried the V and GF waffle and it was delicious, nice texture, with the maple syrup. Hubby ordered the regular waffle and he really enjoyed it! Great experience!

At first the line intimated me, but the line moves very quickly!! The team that works there is very friendly and very helpful. The Granby Waffle shop has counter service. They do not offer table service. The counter service is quick and seamless. While you order is being prepared you have time to find a table there is plenty of seating inside or if the weather is nice you can sit outside. I ordered The Martha with no blueberries. The waffle did not disappoint! It was fresh, hot and fluffy on the inside had a the right amount of crisp on the outside. It was very good. I would definitely visit again!!

If you're in the mood for waffles, this is the place for you. An entire establishment with just that-- waffles. It's not so much a "restaurant" style as much as it gave "coffee shop" vibes. I don't recommend large family gatherings as it's a kind of small place. The location can be found inside of the Selden Market off Granby street closer to Plume Street. It's a cute place with funny sayings on the walls. The cashier didn't seem too informed of what GWS offered, however the owner/ manager on staff was extremely helpful. Once you order, you wait for your drink to be made. Upon receiving your beverage, you can find seating and they will bring the food to you. The owner/ manager was extremely funny when shouting your name. He always seem to sing a fun tune with delivery of your food. We ordered the whole chicken and waffles (which comes with captain crunch), Piggy egg waffle, lemonade, and Granby mimosa. The chicken for the chicken and waffles could have been a little more crisper. They mentioned it was oven baked, but maybe having an air Fryer would make it even better. I also optMy boyfriend really enjoyed the piggy egg-- I'm surprised I was able to get a photo. The cutest thing was the mini waffle on the edge of the mimosa. Super cute and innovative. The waffles are extremely good! Why give 4/5 stars? The chicken. The lack of knowledge of the menu. I suggest maybe have the cashier up-sale items. We never were offered to add sides to our orders. Other than that, I would I return.

1/2 a waffle with egg and sausage gravy. YUM!!!

Piggy Egg Berry Waffle. It was yummy but I was slightly disappointed because it was supposed to come with blueberries and strawberries. They were out of blueberries that day, but failed to let me know. When the waffle came out there were no blueberries. They did offer to put extra strawberries or bananas, but that was after they served it to me. I decided on bananas instead. I will say that they did not mention in the description that the bacon is sweet Won't do that again. I would do that waffle again, just no bacon. Next go 'round I ordered half a waffle with egg and sausage gravy. So darn good Hands to the heavens, it was delicious.

Disappointed. I'm in Norfolk from Northern Virginia for the day & I decided to try a local spot for breakfast. I figured can't go wrong with chicken & waffles. Sadly mistaken. The cashier & the girl that brought me my food were nice, restaurant looked clean, but it was chilly inside so I decided to take my food to go. The waffle was a tad overcooked, not too flavorful and if I'm not mistaken, those were definitely bagged chicken nuggets that they served me. epic fail. I gave 3 stars only because the food wasn't absolutely disgusting. But they definitely need to step it up! I went to this restaurant because of the high reviews & I'm confused about what were these previous diners eating!?! Because what I had was NOT IT! For $13, this should NOT have been more than $8, $9 bucks tops!

Classic mimosa topped with a waffle!!

We met the owner, he is a cool band guy with a mustache name Dand. The drinks he made for us were so good and so was the way he talked with his staff and the way they worked together. My parner and I had seen that they pride themselfes on Scottish eggs, which we were lucky to try and it was also very delicious! You order at the register, and the staff brings the food out to your table. Everyone was attentive, and we had no issues with the service. We ordered the waffle plate, which came topped with fruit alongside eggs and their house sausage. We also tried the Huevos Rancheros, the Sausage Egg & Cheese sandwich, and a build-your-own omelette. For drinks, we ordered the brown sugar cold brew, dulce de leche cold brew, drip coffee, and an espresso martini. The waffle was huge, and the sides were great. My only complaint was that it could have used more fruit, as there were only a few small pieces. The Huevos Rancheros were delicious and came with a generous serving of avocado. The only thing that caught us off guard was the lack of salsa, since in traditional Huevos Rancheros the salsa is a key component. Even so, the dish was still flavorful and filling. The omelette was excellent, and the breakfast sandwich was equally delicious. I was especially impressed by the house-made jam, house-made hot sauce, and the perfectly seasoned home fries. As for the drinks, the brown sugar cold brew was excellent, but the dulce de leche version was far too sweet for my taste. From what I understood, they use two flavored syrups to make it, and I think using smaller portions of each would create a better balance. We ended up adding oat milk and some drip coffee to tone it down. The drip coffee itself was solid and came with free refills. The espresso martini really tied brunch together for me -- strong, well-made, and delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed both the food and the experience, and we'll definitely be back.

I love this area of the city - feels a little small town/a little suburban. I have the coffee passport and was excited to try this new-to-me spot. Mudita sits just off Ocean View Ave practically on the beach. On this visit, there was ample street parking, but I dare say it is tricky on weekends and during the summer. It is in a pedestrian-friendly area, which is a plus, so it's easy to walk to. They do make a point to remind you not to park in the lot belonging to the adjacent shopping center or risk being towed. When I stopped in, it was empty except for one table. I let them know this was my first visit and the staff was happy to tell me about seasonal specials. They have a variety of teas and coffees. I do wish they had a sample of their food menu where they take orders. I didn't notice it until I picked up my drink, so I'll have to return when I have more time to peruse it. For my first visit, I wanted to try a seasonal special drink and opted for the Vietnamese Egg Coffee. It was described as an Americano style drink with egg custard foam. They offer decaf which is a plus so I selected this. It was ready in about 5 mins and was absolutely delicious. The only downside was the size. I wasn't expecting an espresso sized beverage for the price, but probably because I'm used to a Starbucks Americano which is bigger (even for a tall) and has slightly more hot water. The flavor was impressive and I much prefer the espresso Mudita uses! Overall, a great experience. I don't often venture out to OV, but I'll definitely stop back in when in the area!

Where I sat at the counter, I could watch them making all the food and I was impressed to see that they don't just ladle soup into a bowl to serve it, they actually cook and prepare, then dress it to plate it perfectly. Their cream of potato was really good and not the traditionally made where the potato is pureed into the soup - rather they make a creamy soup base and then add potatoes to it. The combo of the soup, a small piece of potato, scallion, and a small piece of bacon really made for a great spoonful in each spoonful I enjoyed!! My coworker got their Asian Chicken Noodle and that looked amazing! He said it was incredible. Next up was the entrée and we both got their lamb gyro.... There is also seating upstairs (I didn't go up there...bad back). We had to wait about 20 minutes before we were seated. And they only had seating at the counter available when our buzzer went off. The server at the counter was very friendly and did a good job. We were saddened to know that by 11:00 they had run out of their home fried potatoes and the next batch wouldn't be ready for another hour...of course we may have been able to get some as it took over 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The cooks and kitchen staff were hustling and working hard to get the food out so I couldn't understand why it took so long. I gave food allergies so I was really looking forward to the potatoes as I had limited options of what I could eat. So I had scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. I wasn't supposed to eat a biscuit but I did because I knew the eggs and sausage would leave me hungry. Hubby ordered the Piña Colada French Toast, Turkey Sausage and Scrambled Eggs. I must say that the food was tasty and cooked very well. Hubby never got his eggs, so we asked them to remove them from the bill. They offered us a free dessert from the selections but we passed on it. I would definitely give them another visit if I'm in the area as I think the home fried potatoes are going to haunt me until I taste them! I do t know if I would recommend this place for people with children just because it's kind of small. A great spot to take your S/O or meet up with a (small) group of friends. They may be able to accommodate larger groups upstairs
