Great, enormous resort that consisted of five sub sections- grand Tulum, Akumal, Coba, and Sian Kaan. Each area had a specific touch to it, and was accessible via trolly throughout the vicinity. All inclusive so everything was on the house, with a la carte dinners we booked for several nights. All in all it was a good trip, if you're just looking to stay on an AI resort and relax. Not much of a culture of Tulum feel that you would get if you stayed in town as the resort is about 30-40 min from the main strip. Food was decent, buffet style with different menu items that changed throughout the week. I would recommend getting a room on the bottom floor if you have kids and a stroller as they do not have elevators on premises! Also, pack your bug spray! Beach area was kind of rocky in most parts, the seaweed wasn't too bad but definitely out in some patches of sea. The pools were a nice touch as there were many to choose from. Little kids water park was good for little ones with sprinklers and towers and they had a water park also for bigger kids. Not to mention the infinity pool was pretty cool overlooking the ocean. Rooms were decent, but nothing spectacular as we got the suite. Good value for what we spent I would say. read more

Grand Bahia Principe Tulum was an amazing experience! Room was great, views were immaculate and the food was solid. I was keep it healthy, so I stuck with bottomless ranch waters! We reserved the junior suite. Upon check-in I asked about a view and we paid for an upgraded room that gave us a bit of a view. There is a lot of bush that prevents a clear view from the 3rd floor. The room was quite small for a resort and was only equipped with a standing shower that fits 1 person comfortably. It was such a pleasure to not have to worry about room keys. They give you a band that is used as your room key--such a great addition. Our room was in the last building of the resort so this was quite a walk for us, often. Carts don't run as often as they should in my opinion. The resort food was resort food--Just ok. Plenty of options. Even 2 vegan station options which was thoughtful. Our fav were noodles in soy sauce, ceviche and the sweet and sour chicken. For breakfast we utilized the omelet station, had hash browns and bacon. I recommend the mimosas which are served during breakfast. This was the best drink we had in the buffet. There were not options such as turkey or beef for those who do not eat pork. There is a snack bar and a food truck(this is a restaurant) as other options aside from the buffet. There are also onsite restaurants which are not shared during your check-in but available on site free of charge if reservations are made. The entertainment such as the DJ was not diverse. Other entertainment such as games picked up on Sunday. There was a foam experience at the pool. The beach is also accessible right near the snack bar which is a plus. There are a number of bars throughout the pool area. They don't stay open late, so, plan accordingly. They are however, very generous with liquor servings asking you when to stop! The staff are super friendly. Everyone is so helpful and willing to assist. We forgot spray starch at home and wasn't able to purchase any on the property but was able to utilize the dry cleaning service which we were told would take 24hours for service but returned our clothes in 4 hours. We saw a casino in passing but wasn't able to make it as this was not in our itinerary. There is also a market on the property which has a separate bar with premium liquor options, this isn't free, however. We took a stroll on our first day in as we were looking to purchase spray starch for our clothes. We were told that there is entertainment at the market until a little after 1am. We missed this, unfortunately. Not sure if this is available all night. There are boutiques, shops and a pharmacy in addition to the bar. Good photo opp. read more

My cousin had her destination wedding at the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum. Her beach wedding was beautiful. There was a break in the storm where the sun shined through, and the wedding went off without any issues. The resort is quite lovely. The buffets were included with our package. Food was pretty good overall. We tried two restaurants. The Indian restaurant was terrific as was the other restaurant we tried at one of their sister resorts close by. The Beach Truck also served some tasty grub. Our room was spacious and comfortable the 5 nights we stayed. Housekeeping did a wonderful job of taking care of our room. Minibar was stocked every day too. The grounds were well maintained and beautiful. The resort is huge. If you do not want to walk, then you can ride one of their shuttles (I guess that is what they are called). They travel all over the resort property. When we went to the sister resorts, there were tram/shuttles that drove us there as well. Very convenient. Overall, we were pleased with the 5 night stay and accomodations. This is definitely one of our best vacations taken so far. We flew into Cancun Airport, and from there to the resort takes about an hour or so without traffic (add bout 30 more minutes with traffic.) We used Amstar as our transportation (Part of the vacation package) and they were amazing also. Front check in desk was very helpful, we dropped in around 0130, our plane was delayed about an hour so we were arriving really late to the hotel. The resort is clean and well organized. It is huge, but everything it is relatively easy to find. Restaurants, beaches, pools, activities and most of the stuff is at walking distance, and if it's not or you just do not feel like walking, there are kind of like golf cart taxis that drive around the property stopping at their various stops to pick people up or dropping off. Their main restaurant (The Yucatán) is a buffet style restaurant, tons of different foods and drinks, so many options. Waiters and staff are super helpful, friendly, and professional. I have been trying to taste all the different foods around the buffet hahahaha and so far, no disappointments. There are a lot of souvenir shops at Walking distance from the main lobby the big one is called (Doña Isabel), lots of Mexican arts (Make sure you negotiate the price of things always) about 99% of the time they will lower the price! You can also take golf taxi right in front of the main lobby, about a 1 minute ride.) Rooms are nice too. Kinda of weird in a way. The shower door is a bit transparent (not 100%) and since the shower is kinda outside of the bathroom. Looks like an open bathroom except for the toilet that has its own room. It is definitely a very nice resort. With lots of activities (Kayaking, snorkeling, jet ski, beach, pool, bicycle ride tours, pyramid tours, dolphin swims, zip lining, jungle walking, a teens club, and more) We love this place, really wish we could stay much longer. read more

Staff was great, that's it, only thing saving it from a one star review. "All Inclusive" if you are willing to crush the buffet (or the "food truck") 18 times in 7 days. No poolside, beachside, or room service. Do not take littles (under 5 y/o) as your time will largely be spent returning to the buffet for more food and pushing them in strollers (a must bring) because everything is so spread out. Bring your own cups/yetis for the beer and cocktails (or be happy drinking out of cafeteria cups from middle school). We had to take a golf cart each night you go "out" for dinner (book two weeks ahead of time, expect them to lose the reservation). You'll get another "free dinner out" if you find a sommelier and buy two bottles. Best restaurant was south down the beach, and there you pay cash (it actually was very good, just not part of the resort so doesn't help the review). read more

Stayed at this resort for our Bi-Annual Couples Trip Retreat. Usually when I arrive at a resort, I am greeted with some sort of local pleasantry while waiting to be checked in... not here. Also, I requested a junior suite and upgraded once I got to the clerk. Once I got to my room, I did not have a view and the room was a lot smaller than I expected. I wanna give 5 stars so badly but........there was a few minor mishaps that could have been easily remedied. The night before leaving I got an email saying our flight was being changed to a new departure time, ok, no problem, except that I had already arranged for our transfer with "coming2." I immediately started trying to contact someone at the resort via phone and virtual assistance with no luck. The virtual assistance kept telling me that a "team member would contact me shortly." Never did, so when we arrived at the airport I found a gentleman who was from the same company who said he couldn't help us and we better just take a taxi, for $180!!!!! WHAT!!!!!! He said that someone was there at the original time and waited for us for 2 hours. I explained the situation and he said, "take a taxi." So we did. When we arrived to the resort I explained my situation, AGAIN, and was given an email and a form to fill out. I filled out the form and still haven't heard from anyone, and it's been 10 days. So basically I'm out that money even though I did everything I could to let them know we'd be late. ‍ Was out of our hands. But we decided to not let it ruin our trip! Room: Phenomenal, except slippery floors! Food: Buffet can definitely be better, but it's a buffet Resort grounds: absolutely stunning Beach off resort: So gorgeous and such easy access Pools: Again, so gorgeous and lovely Shows: Awesome All inclusive: It is not....I ordered a modelo and was told that is a charge but dosxx is complimentary, doesn't make sense to me but ok. All the Dosxx you can drink but any other beer you have to pay. ‍ Mini "bar" in room: 2 beers a day, 1 coke, 1 Diet Coke, and 1 Orange Fanta. Huh????? Tequila Restaurant: AMAZING!!! If you look at my history, you'll see that I've never done a 1 star review. I'm actually STILL AT THE HOTEL as I'm writing this. So here we go: 1) Their 800# does NOT WORK. When you book your trip, there's an 800# on most charge card statements. That # doesn't work. Neither does the 800 on BPT's website. So reaching somebody is not going to be easy 2) I downloaded their app, and the app, you'd think would have even more /easier/faster access to BPT and it does NOT. Their customer service is limited to specific questions and therefore answers. When your question doesn't fit their automated system they tell you to contact their customer service. (See #1) 3) We landed at 4:50pm and made reservations in their Mediterranean restaurant at 8pm (Pre ordered wine for the 10% discount and everything). They won't move the bus until it's full. (I get it, the cost of gas, and efficient). We got here at 8:23pm! Also once you book your transfer, there are ZERO instructions on where to go once you exit the airport. It's pandemonium and the signage for Bahia Principe isn't visible. We walked right past it. Again, no instructions once we included transfers. You just pay for it. 4) The check in took over an hour and we uploaded our passports on their website. We received confirmation it was done and thanked us for pre-registering. It still took us an hour to check in AND they didn't have our 2 bed reservation. BPT did the "bait and switch" where they told us we've been upgraded to a king suite. She's engaged to a man, why would I put us in a king bed. It www a king with a sofa bed. We didn't pay the amount we paid for a sofa bed. We told them at check in about missing our reservation and we had to keep checking in to see if we could reschedule it. We cancelled the show we were going to attend at the hotel. We still have spa services today. I decided to just grin and bare it. Smile/laugh at whatever happens. We're here. We're going to make the best of it. Roberto, Adam, Angel and I forgot the other name, they have been AMAZINGLY helpful as best as they can be. They truly have. Obviously we're still here so I'll have to update/edit this once we've departed. I joined Bahia because I want to go to ALL of their destinations and use the vacation time I have. This was my first time and it was horrible. I don't want anybody else to experience this. I know in these times , pack your patience so that's why I'm just going to laugh or find humor in whatever else happens. The hotel is beautiful. The staff, you can tell, tries their best to fix things. They really do. The food was tasty and its a lot to choose from. Also, there's a small $8 fee to the gov't. (I forgot what it was for) Not a problem but expect to pay that separately once you check in. I think you should book with another chain. **EDIT** We just went to their spa !! OH MY GOODNESS I hate eating crow but I'm woman enough to admit the truth. BHT's Spa was incredible. Laura and Guadalupe are increíble. Guadalupe actually knew that I booked through their app and Bahia's own app won't let you book for 2 people. They were able to acomódate us. We feel incredible ! The music, the decor, the perfect amount of pressure. They were incredibly attentive. They asked how we felt, if we were comfortable etc So my review was amended from 1 star to 3 stars. Wal-Mart of all inclusive Mexico resorts. Food and service is garbage, everything is about upselling otherwise you easily will be disappointed. I guess if you have never been to any other all inclusive resorts or anywhere else on the Mexican riviera I guess it will be fine, otherwise there two dozen nicer resorts on the coast. I end up spending the vacation at the cash beach club next door just for something edible and smidge of service. read more

We have traveled a lot in Mexico and this is our least favorite place we have stayed. Staff is not helpful, rooms are so spread out you have to take golf cart trolleys everywhere you go, we were only allowed to make reservations two times in our 6 day stay, buffet food only the other times. No place to just go have a nice meal during the day, snack shack was absolutely awful! Cold fries and chicken wings. Sports bar had no food to order, only drinks. Hopefully they give us a refund for our last night since we are choosing to leave early and find a better fit: positives were that it was clean and in a decent location. read more

So let's start off with this resort is not "all inclusive." I've been to Mexico several times before and know what all inclusive entails. They give 3 dinner reservations when we are staying here for 7 days but when you check in there's no availability to book the reservations. To make it worse they tell you at guest services that there is no availability unless you want to buy a $50-$95 bottle of wine then magically a table will be available. Every other resort I've been to do not limit you to restaurant reservations & also don't up charge you. At other resorts I've been able to walk in and they have always accommodated even without a reservation, we tried to walk in and were told "you should have made a reservation" mind you we tried with no availability. The snack bar which is supposed to open all night always ran out of chicken, literally every night. The last night we were here we were 15 minutes late to our reservation and they told us they could not accommodate even though this was a Brazilian steak house with all you can eat and they said no. One of the main things we always loved about Mexico was the service, this resort seems like they train their people to say no to everything and upcharge. My wife was charged for towels when we later found out was supposed to be free. The bars always run out of the good liquor. Their 2 bedroom suites which is the exact verbiage they use is actually a 1 bedroom suite with a pull out bed which according to them means it's a 2 bedroom. Every other resort I've been to that has a mini fridge always was stocked with water, beer, sodas and snacks, this resort puts 2 cans of coke and 2 beers for the duration in the stay and promotes having a mini bar. There's no room service which is another first for me & I've stayed at different resorts every time I come. Managers at the restaurant had nasty attitudes and didn't want to help at all. There also an infestation of cockroaches which I've never experienced before. If this was my first time visiting Mexico I would have never came back, this has been the worst experience and I would never recommend or visit a Bahia Principe resort again. This place isn't a true all inclusive I suggest you find another place to stay. read more

Pool swim up bar closed and it is not due to Covid. My wife and I are in Mexico for a month and prior two resorts the swim up bar was open. When I inquired they said it was a state law which is simply untrue. No staff available for drink orders. You have to exit pool and find a bar that will be open for a drink with a line ten to a dozen people deep. The food is good but definitely not the vacation I paid for. Do not recommend! read more

If just Okay is okay, this is the place to be. The buffet is average, and after 5 days is blah. You can only get into a restaurant a couple times while visiting. We (thought) we had a reservation, supposedly made by David at the public relations desk, for our last night and to celebrate a 50th birthday. Walked in. No reservation and the "manager" acted like we were lying. We spoke to Leonardo, the General Manager, and he offered to make us a reservation for the Mexican restaurant. Only we have been eating Mexican all week. Said that was all he could do. Unless I don't understand what a GM is, seems he could have fixed David's mistake easily. It was mistake after mistake. For the COVID test, they neglect to tell you it's at an alternate building, requiring a shuttle ride. So we show up at our appointment time, only to be told, "it's not here". We arrive to a long line and 2 employees trying to process the group. An hour later 4 more show up. So much for appointments. They always seem to leave out pertinent details. A drink at the pool means serving yourself, and should you ask for more than a few drinks, the bartender will give you attitude. There were 8 of us, we asked for 6 drinks (keep in mind, smalls glasses and very few servers coming around to ask for your order, as well as very watered down/very little alcohol). When we asked for 6, he gave attitude and said anything else? Another time, the drinks we ordered didn't taste anything like what they should have. We were told the bartender was new. The pool closes at 0700 pm?? Which makes no sense. When asked they say it is to clean it, but yet didn't see anyone doing that at any time we sat at the pool in the evenings. The beach is rocky, not a pristine sandy beach you'd imagine. We had to walk a little ways down to find decent beach and chose to pay for food and beverages at Kay's Beach Club. Luis our server was attentive and responsive. The food was amazing. All of took was waking away from the resort. They know they already have your money, so no need to work for it at the resort. The couple next door to us attended the resorts real estate/time share speech. When they said they were not interested, they were told to find their own ride back to the resort/room area. They had a 1 year old child with them. Who does that?? Customer service is not something they care about here. So as I said, if okay is okay, this is the place to be. Enjoy mediocrity. read more

Most disappointed in the romantic dinner experience. To give some perspective we made reservations on Tuesday and requested to be placed under the gazebo- no only did we have some problems when we were getting picked up for the dinner but the gazebo was taken. On top of the fact that the guy when making the reservation told us the total would be $110 he never once mentioned it could be $88 without the bottle of wine. Because the gazebo was taken and no one told us it would be taken when we requested it naturally we were upset so a woman at the tequila restaurant called someone and told us our dinner would be on them. This was confirmed 5 times with 2 different people. Then when it came time to check out David Cob told us we had to pay or we could not check out- that he did not receive any notification of a free dinner and there's proper "protocol". This is ridiculous- the restaurant should not be promising free dinners they cannot give. And it's not fair that we had problems getting there and once we got there just to be promised a compensation which was taken away. read more
