Visited Feb. 13 - 20, 2023 There's a lot to like about Grand Bahía Príncipe Tulum. I'm not really a fan of 'all inclusive', but we ended up here anyway and I'm glad I went. Overall, this is a really nice resort. There are a couple of negative points, but that's later. Despite it's size, any and all of the staff were very friendly and always willing to help with any situation or request. We did not get the room we signed up for (ocean view) but got a side view suite and a nice credit off the bill which satisfied us. (The ocean was in view, but mostly a tranquil 'jungle' courtyard with some really cool wildlife activity.) The suite had 2 full bathrooms, 2 TVs, 2 balconies, etc.) and was very clean and well maintained. I even felt comfortable walking on the tile floor with bare feet, never feeling grossed out. The bed and bedding was really very comfortable. (We like a firm bed and this (king) bed was just that. The sheets too were very fresh looking/feeling and offered a comfortable night's sleep. The food over all was good... very good even. It is an all inclusive, so most of the meals are in a large buffet halls, buffet style. (Obviously) A huge variety of all kinds of food was available at the buffet. Everything I tried was very good. You also get a choice of 3 ala-carte dinners at their restaurants (4 if you stay 10+ days) and the meals there were always beautifully presented. The 2 meals I posted here (shrimp and filet mignon) were really excellent. One other meal I got was less than 'yummy', but they tried to make it right. Wasn't happy, but you can't win them all. They do try to keep you entertained, with music, shows and free food, Zumba in the pool, volley ball in the main pool and on the beach, scuba or snorkeling diving and tours to the several Mayan ruins around the area. There are several pools (4, I think), the large main pool was always LOUD with music, not my favorite BUT my wife liked it... so we stayed. The other pools are more family oriented with mini water parks... but they are all kept very very clean. Let's see... what else...? Ah! The beach, the one big negative. Not a big beach and shallow, but the problem is the rocks. All I'm going to say is bring water shoes. You'll need them. As a side note... there's a market area about a 1/8 of a mile down the road, but beware. While there are some great deals we got scammed with some 'real/fake' jewelry, but PLEASE NOTE: that doesn't have anything to with the GBP Tulum resort itself. read more

I stayed at this resort from May 28 to June 2, and unfortunately our experience was very disappointing. One of the biggest issues was dining. Most restaurants required reservations, and despite having Privilege Club access, we still struggled to secure reservations. The buffet was essentially the only option for breakfast and lunch, and dinner if you didn't have a reservation for a restaurant. The food selection was repetitive from day to day. During our stay, both my boyfriend and I became seriously ill after eating at the resort. We experienced food poisoning, including severe stomach pain, vomiting and high fever, and later learned that other guests had also become sick. We notified the front desk as soon as we became ill, but no meaningful assistance was offered. Something as basic as a thermometer was not provided, and we were so sick that we could not leave our room. We ultimately had to rely on a friend in our group to purchase one for us as well as Gatorade. The following day, we met with the customer relations team to discuss what had happened and requested compensation for the two days we spent confined to our room due to illness. We were informed that no compensation would be provided. Thankfully our illness did not become more severe, but we were disappointed by what appeared to be a lack of concern for guest wellbeing and support during a medical situation. Room service was also extremely limited. The menu consisted primarily of items such as pizza, nachos, burgers, and other unhealthy options. After becoming ill, we were uncomfortable eating many of these foods and went multiple days with very limited food intake because there were few healthy options or soup available for room service. As a registered nurse, I was genuinely concerned about our health during this experience. Overall, this was not the vacation experience we expected, and based on our experience, I would not recommend staying at this resort. read more

There was so many bad experiences that I kept a daily log but when I posted it here it exceeded the maximum Yelp character length so I'll sum it up. Our room was outdated, and decorative pillows had a better time than we did (see stained picture). Mini-bar was a joke with a couple of room temperature sodas, water, and beer. Water from the shower poured onto the bathroom floor. The food in the buffet was bland (outside of the specialty restaurants which were great). They also ran out of food all the time and the kitchen staff DID NOT wear gloves. I witnessed several staff handle food without gloves. Poolside snack areas were bomb-dived by birds, especially the nachos. Poolside service was non-existent, mixed drinks tasted chemically. Spa: there were ads everywhere for discounted spa treatments but the spa itself does not recognize those discounts. The kiosk in the lobby had the promotion listed but it didn't work. Customer Service did not want to help until I started yelling "False Advertisement". At that point I asked for a manager who applied the promotional discount. We have stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels in Mexico for 35 years. During that time we have stayed at 14 different hotels. We go 3 times a year. We have loved all of them and given good reviews. This hotel is the worst one we have encountered during g the last 35 years. The customer service is terrible and there is a lot of bait and switch. We paid extra to pick our room. A week before we came, we were informed that room was no longer available and we were assigned another room. After a long discussion they gave us our money back. Once we got to the hotel we tried to reserve restaurant dinners. We were told all the restaurants were booked for our 10 night stay. We could watch the app for cancellations. We went to the buffet and discovered it was the smallest buffet we had seen at the hotels. Very limited variety. Waiter service is not good. We ended up getting our own drinks and taking care of ourselves. We paid for a top end room. The room is nice. The shower only give a small amount of very hot or very cold water. Some days we get towels, some days we don't. Luckily the maid closet is nearby so we can get our own towels. We were able to get a reservation at portafino due to a cancellation. The service was fair but the menu was different than the app or what is shown on the internet. There were no directions on the app. Found out we needed to take a shuttle to the restaurant. Once we got there, we found very limited signage to the restaurant. Asked an employee for directions and was told it's down that way. Luckily a guest gave us good directions. The pool is very good. It's loud all the time with a deep bass sound going. The employees are nice but only do the basic customer service. Guest services are only open 8 hours a day and you have to go to the lobby. We tried calling them several times and no one answered. The bartenders are nice but overworked. Expect 5-15minutes to get a drink. I'm not a drinker but the bar only has local brands. If you want other liquor, there is a charge. The food truck and pool food is only open 8 hours. The food truck is also open 10pm to 7am. Decent food. Employees are very nice. Hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. Had the seafood risotto at portafino. , it was very good. My wife had the pizza, said it was fair but burnt. We are 3 days into our stay. Will make the best of it. The employees are all very nice. Management and their culture seem to be the issue. The beach only has 3 places to be near the beach. Otherwise the seats are on a slight hill above the beach. The pictures are deceiving. We have now finished our stay. Tried to get help with bags on last day. Set up appointment with bell stand. You guessed it, they never showed up and we had to carry our bags to the lobby. We talked to several guest who had previously stayed at the hotel. They all commented on how the customer service had degraded. All said this was also their last trip to the hotel. On a positive note, the hotel and facilities are very clean. This is the first bad review I have made for a Mexican resort in 35 years. Essentially this is a 3-4 star hotel that seems to be struggling. Hopefully they will work more on customer service. First off our room spell like mildew. The ceiling in the shower was falling and the pieces were falling into the shower. Got into the tub jacuzzi and it didn't work. The hair dryer was not working. After calling the front desk several times no one came. We could not get a reservation at any of the restaurants on the premises. We were told you have to book 10 days in advance in order to eat at any of the restaurants. A strange drunk man came banging on our door and even tried to use his key card to Jimmy the lock. We called security and it took them over 20 minutes to come. Couldn't understand why he had a key card because we had bracelets on our wrist in order to gain access to the room. The food at the buffet was not good . Some food looked like it was sitting for days. The food was not hot. It was the same food from day to day no variation. Limited selection. The resort is beautiful, a few feet from the ocean, great views. The rooms were comfortable and the service was outstanding. The specialty restaurants had great service but honestly, the menus need to be re-worked. The Indian restaurant served something like Indian food, the Peruvian restaurant was really sub-standard in terms of the menu. This is really a management issue, nothing to do with the staff. The presentations were good but the food itself was so-so, except the seafood restaurant - that was great. That being said, the main buffet was wonderful, the lunch restaurant was very good, the coffee shop was nice. The staff for children's programming were wonderful!!! I can't say enough about them. The property is fine. The buffet is mediocre. The rooms are nothing special. The shuttles run frequently around the property and between Bahia resorts. It's not actually in Tulum! Each of their resorts is named after a city in the Yucatan, so it's a little deceiving. Because it's not actually in Tulum, it's a decent shuttle ride/rate to get to Tulum and to/from the airport (so for it not being that special, you should just stay somewhere closer to the airport to avoid the 2-hour drive, especially if you never plan on leaving the resort). Their app is TERRIBLE and you kind of need it to make restaurant reservations before you arrive since everything is already booked up. You can't make a reservation for more than the # of guests staying in the room so it's not ideal for large groups that would like to dine together outside of the buffet. read more

The food wasn't very good. A lot of it lacked flavor or seasoning. You can make one dinner reservation which is weird because any other all inclusive I've stayed at let's you book a different restaurant every night if there's availability. What's worse is that many of the restaurants were empty at night so I don't understand the point of the restriction. Drinks were extremely watered down and all the mixed drinks were extra sweet-- unnecessarily sweet. I don't know what extra crap they're adding to the mix but nothing tasted like it was supposed to. I recommend drinking your alcohol of choice with soda/soda water and calling it a day. Service was great. Their wait staff is all super nice and sweet and I have zero complaints on that front. They work hard and always seem to do it with a smile. Front desk staff: Sigh. I understand there may be limitations to what they can do but it felt like they were never actually trying to be helpful. Things were okay until I decided to extend my stay for two days. It took forever to get my My Bahia Principe rate (I had to call the customer service number... wtf. By the way the My Bahia Principe thing is b.s. I didn't get special checkin or a special wristband or any of that crap... anyway), as a result of extending my stay I lost my complimentary airport transfer provided by the hotel so I paid $100 to get a taxi to the airport. The hotel simply had to grant me a new voucher and they wouldn't. It's not smart business. They're 90mins away from the airport. You should do everything in your power to make sure I want to come back here. I have a million other options down the road. There are soooo many hotels in QuintanaRoo. Whatever. Room: it was clean but very basic. The rooms had little touches that tried to elevate the decor but overall it felt like furniture was missing from the room. It was very barebones. Also, we asked for two beds in the room. For some reason the beds are practically joined/connected. They're pushed together and because some of the nightstand stuff is fixed to the wall, you can't pull them apart. It was not ideal but we adjusted. Pool: The filter doesn't work fast enough because there was always a bunch of crap floating in the pools. I found myself swatting stuff away from me constantly. Bugs, leaves, trash, you name it. Beach: over run with seaweed. You couldn't use it. Even the little areas that they closed off with a net and tube, that were supposed to be clear of seaweed daily, was still full of seaweed. I understand that you can't control nature but don't tell us that you're going to clear an area for us to use and not do it. Activities: I enjoyed the water volleyball and water polo but they have to stop letting kids play with adults. There were parents harassing other adult players about how they were playing with their kid. The players didn't want the kids in the game anyway but the staff wasn't telling them they couldn't play. Keep in mind there's a whole kids pool and a teen lounge. Activities just for them. I don't understand why they have to be in the adult activities too. The place felt overrun with children at times. They even had some talent show/singing thing for kids in the lobby bar! It was frustrating. Overall I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. There are way too many hotels in the area for you to choose from. It would be a waste of money. I've stayed at a lot of all-inclusives and this one is by far one of the worst. Woke up missing all our jewelry and wallets, money, cards. Had bruises, on our bodies, cuts, and a huge gash on my neck from my necklace being ripped off. We were so excited for our first trip to Cancun MX. We are no strangers to Bahia Principe but in Dominican Republic and because of the amazing services we expected the same or more in Mexico. We originally booked a junior suite and we're upgraded to a suite! So we decided to extend our stay an extra night. Our room was right by the family pool. Beach was within steps away! The room was too dim for me but when I noticed the light fixtures, most were missing bulbs. Too many mosquitoes. No robes or slippers. Mini fridge had no chips. Housekeeper missed a day of cleaning our room and when it did happen, not stocked on soap,shampoos etc. While lounging at the pool no one around to offer you drinks. The staffs is cold and didn't mingle with us. At the buffet where this food was new to us and ask what is this food? They replied with the same name like we should know what it is. Ex: Cajeta, which I googled is caramel! The drinks weren't great so we stuck to beers. No drink of the day. They can't make recommendations of drinks. I was told "whatever you like". On our last night (the day when our original check out day should have happen) after spending all day at the beach and pool, we go back to our room to finish packing and to find -$65 from my tote bag.. this is why the room is half way done because they snoop to find money! Back in November, the gang took a trip to the beautiful, corrupt, drug pushing country of the United States of America. I'm joking, we went to Mexico and flew directly there and didn't stop in the states. I do recognize both pros and cons to all countries and DO NOT classify all Mexicans as cartel members, drug dealers, poor or lazy because that is simply not the case. Every country has a handful of individuals who just don't care and that's fine. We all can't be, Jane Goodall or Susan Sarandon. But what I did notice down in Mexico, (this is my second time in the country), is that the people work hard. They work long hours, with a smile on their face under arguably liveable conditions just to make $5 a day. It's very difficult to know whether going to a country like Mexico is worth it. If it's safe enough, if you're spending your money in safe place and not into the hands of the cartels. Who owns these paradise resorts? Where is the money we're spending going? Why are they only making $5 a day when they work so hard? These are all the thoughts that ran through my head when we were planning the Mexico trip as well as when we were flying down there. I want to contribute to their economy and give them the opportunity to work, but it's so hard when you don't actually see the money going to the places it needs to go. Then it makes you wonder if the cartels actually do more for the people than the government. It's a very complex situation and it's not one to take lightly. I mention this as we must be conscious as to where we put our money. But NOW.... on the actual review of the resort! It is freaking massive and also about 2 hours from the airport in I remember correctly. It was not close and I remember having to travel decently far. But 2-2.5 hours is NOTHING when talking about traveling distance and just being on a plane for x amount of hours. We bought a couple beers from the bus driver for $3 (USD) each per can. There is so much details that I could tell you about but this is a place that you just have to go to and experience. Oddly enough, I know about 7 individuals who have either been to Grand Bahía Príncipe or are about to go this coming spring/summer. It is most certainly a popular spot for Canadians and you'll find yourself running into people who live down the street to you back home. It is that popular. They have golf karts which transfer people from hotel to hotel to different areas and amenities throughout the resort. We stayed in Tulum ourselves and I found it beautiful. It was spacious and not overly crowded like some of the they resorts. I imagine the price varies depending on which section you want to stay in. They do have a Hacienda, which has a casino, bars and little local shops so you don't even need to head to 5th Ave to get gifts for your friends back home. You can also get a tattoo in La Hacienda or a hammock. I bought a hammock. There is a 24/7 snack bar available. I could tell you stories upon stories but I won't because every experience is different. What I will tell you is that the staff really does want to be there. They care and they make a solid effort. I was able to practice my Spanish, mingle and learn about their culture and the inside scoop of what it really is like to live in Mexico. I wish I was able to share all my experiences as it was life changing, but I cannot. Yes it was an all inclusive resort, but it was much more than that. It was a place where you can go to just forget about the problems back home and focus on the ones in front of your face. To be able to see a different way of life is culturally shocking and changes your perspective. The good unfortunately was very repetitive and probably from frozen, but that was to be expected. We weren't going to France to dine with the rich and elegant, we were going to Mexico to drink our faces off. Which we did. SIDE NOTE!!! There were a ton of British people, a couple from Africa, some more people from the UK, a handful of Americans and the rest were Canadians. A lot of Canadians. Conclusion: paid about $1,500 for all inclusive for 1 week. This is the flight included and everything. It's expensive but it's something that I think everyone should be able to experience at least once. Made some awesome friends who I'm still in contact with through Whatsapp. Definitely add it to the list if you're thinking about traveling! PS. Sorry there aren't a lot of pictures. There is no wifi anywhere except for the lobby. You can pay to upgrade to have it in your room, but why bother? Ended up staying off my phone 90% of the time! read more

PSA: Anyone who gives this resort anything less than 4 stars is out of their minds and a little nitpicky (no offense). Food: I've never tasted such great food in my life (and I'm a complete foodie). My boyfriend and his family are huge meat eaters and even for the Brazilian themed meat extravaganza, they still accommodated for me and gave me salmon (which was cooked perfectly) because I don't eat meat. Even for the restaurants with buffets, the food was amazing with such an amazing variety. Anyone who is gluten free: they have a section for you. Anyone who is vegetarian (myself): they have another section for you. Anyone who loves their meats: there's clearly a section for you. Cleanliness: these workers are working day and night cleaning EVERYTHING at all hours. They cleaned our room twice a day. They're constantly keeping the grounds clean and tidying up everything in sight. Entertainment: I don't even know where to start. I think it's hard to find yourself bored here. Don't get that confused with not having any relaxing, down time because the Infinity Pool and the beaches are great for that. But if you are the ready-to-go partiers like my group, you will have the time of your life. During the day you can be entertained by the Hacienda where you can shop and bargain, OR go to the pools with different activities every hour. At night they have live music and karaoke, welcoming all. They have the sports bar with billiards, fuse-ball, and other games. They also have the casino and later on if you're still ready to party, the disco. Workers: AMAZING. Karina, Christina, Carlos, and Jose were all amazing and welcoming entertainers by the pools. Florentino was a bartender at the lobby bar in the Sian Khan hotel and he was our favorite guy there. So generous and funny. They made the resort feel like home. They were one of the main reasons why leaving was so hard for all of us. If you get the privilege of meeting them, you're guaranteed to have a great trip! Not for people with food allergies or celiac disease. All foods, even the fancier restaurants are buffets. There is no marking of allergens anywhere. Unless the staff personally cooked the dish you're asking about they cannot tell you anything about it. They share many serving utensils among the various dishes so people are mixing the foods. Shared fryers. No one is thinks about cross contact so you will have to ask many questions to determine if the food is safe to eat. If you already have a trip booked, plan to be at the buffet at the moment they open or ask the head chef to build your plate from the food in the back of the kitchen. I emailed to ask about food allergies prior to the visit and they said they would take care of us but we had to fight and stress to eat safely. Not what you want during a vacation. Pros: - their Origen show is great! - AC in the rooms is good - occasional golf carts that will drive you from your room to the lobby -right on the beach - free wifi - market for souvenirs Cons: - No fans anywhere. At 75% humidity, you need some fans to keep the air flowing - 30min from downtown Tulum - rooms are very bright in the morning - pools closed at 7pm - very difficult to speak to anyone on the phone when you're in your room calling the front desk for from your home country - not all front desk staff are helpful. When checking in we were given a room with 2 double beds that "you can put together" however there is a lamp right where your head would go if you put them together... took 1hr to get us into another room then our keys weren't programmed right... read more

Food is great, amazing selection, we were super impressed with the food at the modern Mashua Nikki restaurant, it's underbooked compared to the other restaurants for some reason. Tulum resort is right near the beach and you have access to the other hotels around. The gym is superb for a resort. It had a barbell, smith machine, lat pull down, tower, leg extensions/curl machines, and plenty of dumbbells. Staff are really friendly and always making you feel welcomed. We traveled to the Tulum Ruins on our own taking a taxi one day. It was less than half the cost of the offers by companies in the hotel and you can work at your own pace. Beach is nice and long, some rocky bits, some sandy bits, some seaweed, and some good snorkeling spots. Hotel staff does its best to remove seaweed, some days there is practically none. All in all, would recommend, and will be back. read more

I dont know why but when I book this was supposed to be a 5 star hotel. I was excited to come here until I got here. Cons: No elevators. Drainage smelling (this was a problem with their septic tank, which got fix 2 days later) us U.S.A. people will have to be reminded not to flush t.p. as their system cant handle it.) Small tv having (32 inches tops). Moldy smelling room (this was pretty heavy in which I was moved rooms because they also found it too strong). Theres a Seaweed infestation where no water sports can be done, they have people constantly working trying to curb it but it just keeps coming daily). Some of the bars close really early, at 6pm you can find many bars already closed and these are the closest to the beach. I have not been serve a drink at the beach yet (Im on day 4.) Slow service at the bars but the bartenders have been the best experience with any staff member so far (because any one else is pretty useless) The pools close at 1,900 hrs (7pm), so if you have any outside tours or activities you can forget about using their pools. But go to Xel-ha and Xcaret, they are pretty fun. I used "bookit.com" and so I cant change my reservation at all so I also suggest staying way from anything more than a nights stay. When I had a complaint they just said take it up with you accommodations site which I there was nothing they can do because of their terms and conditions. Their 24 "snack bar" is supposed to have Hamburgers, hot dogs, Nachos, Ro(a)sted Chicken, Ribs, Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Taco, Ice Cream, and Cheesecake. First, do not book transportation through the hotel. It is horrible and we could not get ahold of them to find out any information and tell them that we had to switch a date. They still won't refund me which is frustrating since the hotel was also 0 help. We even called and waited on hold for over 30 minutes and never got through to anyone. It has been a disaster! As far as the property, it is just ok. The buffet is also just ok. There is no room service at the property and they give you the tiny cups for drinks so you're better off bringing a yeti or big cup so they can put your drinks in there. Book your restaurants at least a week before you want one via their app. They don't give you much information on that so I'm glad I knew someone who warned me. Honestly, do not go here unless you want to bring your kids. It is great for traveling as a family but if it is just adults then you're better off going somewhere else. We had booked our reservations almost a month ahead; however, due to the Covid Pandemic issue in 12/2021 we had to cancel our trip a week ahead. Though their contract clearly states that they will fully refund us the money, they refused to do so. They're bunch of thieves! The resort itself was very pretty and well maintained. To get from one resort to another you took a tram which ran frequently in front of the lobby. The pools were nice, not as warm as I expected for the weather, and no hot tub. Plenty of chairs, tables and umbrellas to protect you from the sun. Daily exercise programs which everyone seemed to enjoy. The beach was pretty, but the water was very choppy, there was a red warning flag every day because of the wind. Very few people swam in the ocean. I went in the last day went it was calmer, but didn't stay long because the bottom was rocky and rough and I was afraid I was going to cut my feet. Our room was nice, we had a king bed which was comfortable if a bit on the hard side. We slept with the doorwall open every night which was wonderful. You could hear the ocean surf. The shower is European style with a half glass door, ours wouldn't stay shut, we had to jam it with a towel to keep the floor from flooding. They were a bit stingy on the towels, 1 each, but we just took extras since they left them sitting outside the rooms while they cleaned. Our room was on the 2nd floor, our view from our balcony was palm trees about 30 feet away, so in other words, no view. But I came to appreciate the privacy, and I liked being able to sleep with the door open, so not all bad. The staff was very nice and always smiling, they truly seemed to be enjoying their jobs. One exception was the hospitality room where you had to make meal reservations, they were rude and miserable. Although everyone was nice, they were also very structured and would not deviate from procedure or make a helpful suggestion. Somehow we weren't given pool towels when we checked in - this became comical (not really) as we tried to get them every visit to the pool. Everyone had a different story - no one would give us a towel. The day before we left we finally got the Apple representative to talk to the front desk to give us towel cards which we were able to use to get towels at the pool. We wanted to see some sights so our Apple person told us about many tour options ($$$$). We decided to do it ourselves and save money and make our own itinerary. We figured it out and had a blast. Very disappointed that no one in the hotel - including the 'concierge' would assist us with figuring out how to do anything that wasn't a tour. All he wanted to do was take us on a tour of the 'Premiere time share'. No thanks. Food was average to above average. The buffets have huge sections of most types of cuisine, but oddly, not much Mexican. I didn't get an authentic Mexican meal until I left the resort. The al a carte - reservation restaurants were 1 good 1 mediocre. The la Gourmet French meal we had was very good and even had an impressive presentation. The Don Carlos Brazilian meal was not great, basically just different meats on a skewer. You have to make a reservation almost as soon as you check in or you will find out that all the restaurants 'are full'. Which is bizarre and must be some weird thing they do to make them seem appealing because both restaurants were not more then 50% full the whole time we were there. Others also experienced this. Surprised to find that there was no poolside or beachside snack bar. You could eat at the buffets all you wanted - until they closed between meals or at night, but you couldn't carry out or have poolside snacks. What the heck? Thumbs down on that. The 24 hour snack bar was the only place to get food late at night and it was HORRIBLE. Hotdogs, hamburgers and chicken nuggets. It was like eating the worst version of a kids menu. The website says bikes are available, but discovered only twice a day with tours, one which we had to pay for. We decided to do a 4pm free tour on our first full day, which was a ride from our resort to the other resort golf course. Halfway through, someone's chain broke (the bikes were old and beat up), our guide had to walk that bike back for repairs, so we took off from our group. We did our own tour all over and found areas that we hadn't seen yet, so we made the best of it. The lack of night life there was appalling. I'm on vacation, in the heat, in a resort with nothing to do! What the heck. Each resort had a bar with singers mangling 70's songs, think lounge singers with an accent. Their biggest billing every night was a 'show' in their amphitheater that was beyond amateur. A high school dance team could do better. So, I enjoyed my trip, mainly because of the beautiful weather, the friendly people and the offsite trips. If I go back I will stay in a regular hotel, eat at restaurants and make day trips to see the sites. If you like to stay put and sit by the pool and read a book or drink all day and play in the water or not have to figure out where you're going to eat, this resort would probably be great. Lot's of people we talked to there wanted to do just that and were happy as clams. It's just not my style. read more

I've stayed and several Grand Bahia properties and sadly this was my worst experiences us far. Property was decent minus some outdated things here and there. Employees did not understand English well which made ordering food & drinks difficult sometimes. They really need to add more employees around the bars. Lines for drinks were longer then any other resorts I've ever been. I will say the food was pretty good but are biggest issues was having constant issues with the AC in our room going out. Last thing you want on vacation is to be uncomfortable in your own room. After having the employees come look at it 5 days in a row the last day they asked if I to come to the front to discuss what they could do for me for the inconvenience we've experienced. (Thought it was a nice gesture at the very least) He told me since it was our last night there wasn't much they could do but stated "I see you have a reservation at the Mediterranean restaurant, if you would like I can cancel the reservation & change you too the Mexican restaurant and serve you and your group on the beach!" Which would usually be $30 per couple, so we said sure. The girls got all dresses up and excited then we go to the restaurant where we're told that we do not have a reservation.... after the manager of the Resort had already canceled our other one but didn't make us a new one apparently. Also stating there not doing dinner on the beach... I start getting frustrated and the employee at the front counter told me I must have had too much tequila and came to the wrong restaurant... (im fuming by this point). We go back in forth awhile and the employee at the front tells me he served for the us and to calm down. I asked what branch and in broken English says sergeant... I explain that isn't a branch then tell him all the different branches and he says I'm army & airforce... I would be very surprised if there guy had any military background to be honest... Finally after we finally just take a seat inside the restaurant because we're not getting served at the beach and we've already been there an 45 min. A different manager comes in and apologies again for the inconvenience and want to make it up to us. I tell him we're leaving in the morning so he says I'll see you when you check out. As I'm checking out he come and give me a cheap ass bottle of tequila. Like really.... how about refund some of the money we spent or hell maybe even some good tequila would have been a good gesture smh... As a travel agent I've been to alot of different properties but a few bad employees and some AC issues made what could have been a good experience extremely mediocre. I don't know where to start. The Grand Bahia Principe is an extremely large all inclusive resort. There are five different lobbies that are reached by trams or very long walks. The lobbies are Premier, Coba, Akumel and two Tulums. We stayed in one of the Tulums. We had also visited here about four years ago. This might be a long review, but if you have the time, read it. I will try to put as much information in it as possible. Let's start with the trams. Even though the top of the tram says it is going to certain lobbies, check with the driver because this isn't always the case. They also have trams that will take you to stops by your room but I wouldn't count on them. Some of the drivers are very friendly and speak excellent English (I know - I'm in a different country) and some of the drivers are just rude. Checking in for your room is a joke. Of course we arrived around 12:00 and check in time isn't until 3:00. It's best if you stand in line and let them know that you have arrived. They tell you to come back around 2:30 to see if your room is ready. Another long line for that. Our room was ready a little after three but my brother and sister-in-law didn't get into their room until 4:30. The rooms are actually quite nice. We had two twin beds which had been pushed together (their idea of a king). You have two electrical sockets to use and I mean two. No double outlets here. There is one in the room and one in the bathroom. We had a hard time getting our room to cool off and it didn't help when the electricity went out in the middle of the night one day. When we made reservations, we remembered to ask for a first floor room. There are no elevators here. Now I would really be ticked off if I came all the way from Europe to get in the ocean because it was covered in seaweed. The coastline and the ocean itself was a sea of brown. People were working on clearing it every day but they were fighting a losing battle. Luckily they have several pools for you to choose from. Now where to start on the food. If you are planning on trying one of the restaurants (not the buffet), you must make reservations. I would suggest doing this the first day, otherwise you will not get the time or day you want. There is a place to go into (air conditioned) where you talk to a person who makes the reservations for you. They will print out tickets and you must bring them to the restaurant with you. We tried the Mexican, Italian and French restaurants. These had food that is much better than the buffet. The buffet - oh my. The large seating area for the buffet is not air conditioned and you can sweat like a pig because in June it is very humid. (We normally go in January or February) There is a small seating area that is air conditioned, but with the doors to the buffet opening so much, it is not as cool as it could be. The buffet itself is huge and also has a separate small buffet for the kids. The food is so-so and will not taste like you would think it would. Even the Mexican food on the buffet was not that good. I found that the mussels were very good. The buffet serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and closes at certain times to set up for the different meals. There is a 24 hour snack bar. If there isn't any food set out, you can order off the menu. Birds will be flying in every area where there is food including the buffet. The 24 hour restaurant had iguanas and racoons late at night. The racoons are not afraid of people and will beg. Please do not feed any of the wildlife and please remember that wild animals will bite. Would I come back here? Sadly, no. Just returned home from our one week stay at the grand bahia principe tulum! This was our second time, as the first time we went in 2012 over Christmas. Again I was amazed at the cleanliness of the resort and rooms! People are working 24/7 literally to keep it pristine and beautiful. Our weather was beautiful! 95 and sunny every single day! The drinks were great! Hint:tip your bartenders! The entertainment staff did a great job! Koral, Ceasar, Carlos, Yael and Ever were sweet, fun and made the games enjoyable. I'm always surprised at how few people participate in the games and activities! Live life people! You're on vacation! And you can win some sweet prizes! We won multiple bottles of tequila, a swim with the dolphins, and a photo session. Breakfast is the best meal of the day in my opinion. You can build your own omlette! Which I did every day. I liked the snack bar for lunch. Great hot dogs, nachos, fries, and chicken with noodles. For dinner I recommend the Japanese, Mediterranean and Don Pablo's. They had a Mexican night at the buffet which was very good as well. To celebrate Canada Day they had a BBQ on the beach! It was so good and the food was awesome. My cons are similar to those who have posted before me. I however would be silly to let those things ruin my time in a beautiful resort! The animals need to be removed, the AC needs work! read more

I have just returned from a week at this resort hotel. All future visitors to this hotel should be warned that the hotel reservation system and policy is deeply deficient. Six months before our visit my party reserved and paid for a suite able to accommodate two adult couples and two small children. Upon our arrival, we were told that our reserved, prepaid arrangements were unavailable. Instead we were offered several completely unacceptable alternatives. It took two hours of intense negotiations, hardly desirable after a long flight, to yield a minimally satisfactory solution. This failure to provide the actual reserved, prepaid accommodations significantly diminished the enjoyment of our visit. I can think of several possible explanations for the room reservation mess, none of which reflect favorably on the hotel management. Personally I feel that my party was the victim of a bait and switch policy. Future prospective visitors be warned. Once you show up in Playa Del Carmen you are trapped. Hopefully you will be lucky and get your reserved rooms. We did not. Another problem was that the nice beach was marred by smoking. One person smoking affects everyone in the vicinity. Dates traveled was from March 25-30, 2017 So my wife and I got there for our honeymoon, made the package by apple vacations. We got there early in the morning around 9ish, unfortunately our room wasnt ready until 3pm due to the fact ppl had to check out and then the cleaning of the room. So that kind of sucked waiting all day. The resort was very clean, ppl are working 24/7 to clean and touch up anything that needs to be taken care of. The food was okay, in the morning I really enjoyed the omelets and our dinner reservations at Portfolio Italian food The snack bar was okay, hamburgers didn't seemed too fresh but after a swim, one is always hungry, guacamole was really good! People working at the resort are really nice, always willing to help Maybe with the exempt of the hospitality help desk, they seemed to have somewhat of an attitude... We are well versed travelers and have spent many vacations at all inclusive resorts. By far Bahía Principle Akumal was the most disappointing. 1. Check -in wrong room and we're unable to relocate us due to property being full. 2. Unable to make reservations for a sit down dinner all 5 evenings!!! they stated we could go to the buffet, I purposely booked directly with Bahia Príncipe and they stated the ease the of vacationing. 3. Unable to get beach chairs as they are taken by 8 AM in the morning including all poolside chairs. We woke up one morning at 5 AM to sit on beach chairs. 4. Mid day and early morning Construction throughout our building; therefore unable to sleep in or take a nap. They were renovating. 5. Food 4-5 out 10 (ate cereal for breakfast) 6. However, exceptional staff service!!! 7. Rooms were clean 8. Great wild life!! 9. We actually laughed throughout our stay at all the inconveniences. 10. Don't waste your time. Place is a nightmare. Grounds are beautiful but that's where the pleasantries end. I'm 3 days in on a week long stay in the middle of May and , no AC, refrigerator does not work and the room has not been cleaned once. Stayed : christmas 2015 with my family Pros: the scuba diving was great through the hotel, they take care of you and your belongings and ensure that you have a good time. They had friendly staff. Beaches and pools were nice! Cool wildlife to see in the hotel. Our room had good AC contrary to other reviews. Seaweed was under control for the most part and it was not smelly CONS!: The food you ask? Not good.. make the reservations early for the dinners. Bars close at 11:30.. there is one open but it was at a snack bar that was a ways away from us.. not even worth going since there are racoons everywhere (which is ok if you feel like today would be good for catching a disease). This place is HUGE! If you want to go get something to eat it's not as easy as it sounds. It was too big in my opinion. read more

Worst hotel experience ever, service was terrible, front desk did not know how to resolve virtually any issue.The central office is located in Spain, and you will most likely have to reach them only to be on the phone for hours before anything gets addressed. This is an all inclusive resort that does not give any refunds, but just know the you won't be doing much eating in there fancy restaurants. In order to make a reservation which you need to enjoy this perk which you payed for you must make a reservation at least to days prior, and if your thinking to yourself I will do it ahead before I head to the resort, well you would be mistaken. You need to have a room number in order to do this which you cannot receive till the day of check in if your reservation isn't lost in their system in Spain. So when you finally get said room number and try to make your reservation there is no availability. The website fails mention the you have to make a recervation 3 days before so if you there for 3 or 4 days you out of luck, I was there for 5 days and all we where eating was at the buffet, which is the same food everyday, no options to even eat a a paying restaurant. Make sure you checkout date is correct as they also extended my stay without me asking and i again had to reach out to Spain headquarters to resolve. To be frank I spent more time trying to resolve their mistakes thank actually enjoying my vacation. Hello. As most of you know life in the US is all about work and work and then work so I decide to surprise my lady for a vacation trip to Grand Bahía Príncipe Tulum. The minute that we arrive to the hotel it looks so beautiful clean organise However the front desk was not as nice as the first expression as we enter the hotel & they were not open for solutions as we expected. We booked a room with two King beds However when we enter the room it was two tiny beds we went back to the front desk to exchange with the two Queen or king beds but didn't have any so we ask for at least one king bed result they send us to a room far away from the main lobby and all the activities also it was on the third floor and they with out elevator. We went back to the lobby and we ask if we could be moved to a close a room with in the next day or two since we book 5 nights. there respond was impossible which is get my lady disappointed so we had to go and book a hotel room somewhere else. Result we book at (((((((HOTEL)))))))))))) XCARET RESORT TULUM MEXICO and it was a magnificent four nights my lady and I were planning to go next next year another five nights as well. read more

The resort was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, the buffet was amazing many options to choose from, the beach was beautiful and I could name things over and over. Awful employees who drugged my kids the first day we were there, inside the resort at a pool bar. They stole my daughter's cell phone and when my son had aggressive outbursts from the drug he was given, they threw him into a filthy Mexican Jail in spite of not pressing charges. They treated us like crap when we asked for help and I had to search for my son the next morning after he was arrested. It was terrifying. when we approached the front desk about the stolen cell phone that we were tracking in find my iPhone they ignored us as we watched it going thru the resort for hours than all over Mexico. They wouldn't help me unless I paid all sorts of people between $120 and $350 to find my son. After all of that, which was the first day we were there, we were accused of stealing a necklace from a resort vendor after spending $300 there. They threatened us and said they were going to call the police. They had multiple security around my family until I told them to screw off and took my family back to the room. The food is awful, there are no towels or wash cloths or even bedding for beds. No servers anywhere. Beach is filled with muck from ocean, all sorts of raccoons everywhere. If laying on beach and want a drink, closest bar is a ten minute walk which you must make because they will not wait on you. Even in the restaurant, they will not wait on you. They don't allow anything but buffet eating besides three times in a seven day stay. No room service. Wires sticking out of walls and broken tv in rooms. Awful place to vacation. read more

Let me first begin by saying I am not one to waste my time writing reviews online however, this resort needs to be accurately reviewed and travelers need to beware. One of the features and perks advertised by the bahia-principe's website is that online check-in is available up to 5 days before arrival and that restaurant reservations and room requests were encouraged ahead of time to ensure availability. My party of 8 attempted to check-in online several times beginning 5 days prior to our arrival. The app and website continued to give an error message. We called the resort via the "800" number multiple times and each time, the personnel stated that the website was down and we would not be able to check in or make dinner reservations until we arrived. We also sent several emails to the following email addresses; info.tulum@bahia-principe.com, mybahiaprincipe@bahia-principe.com, reservationsbpusa@bahia-principe.com to ensure that we could have our rooms in close proximity to each other and reserve the restaurants for our group of 8. Because the website was down for the entire WEEK, we spent our ENTIRE first day (of a THREE day trip) at the resort trying to get checked in, covid tests scheduled, and restaurants reserved for a party of 8. Of course since we were not able to reserve the restaurants ahead of time, there were limited options for restaurants available and none of them were restaurants we truly were interested in eating at. We wanted to have dinner at Mikasa, Cozumel, and Portofino. Cozumel and Portofino were both closed and Mikasa was completely booked for all 3 nights of our stay. We were forced to eat at the buffet on Friday night (which was fine), Saturday night we went to Tequila (which is also a buffet....just limited options of just Mexican food...we would have rather gone to the main buffet with more options if we had been aware that it wasn't a served dinner and just another buffet), and Sunday night we had dinner at Thali which had a nice atmosphere but the service was ridiculously slow and the portions were laughable. My butter chicken entrée literally had 3 small chunks of chicken in it. Our rooms were all separated between two different buildings and all on different floors which we were trying to avoid by proactively checking in with their advertised "early check in" feature. Another issue we encountered upon arrival involved our "complimentary covid test" that was included in our booking. We were informed that due to a recent room upgrade (from junior suite to premium superior suite) our covid test would no longer be included in our total price because the "upgrade" occurred after the promotional period. We provided documentation of the original booking date which was in July and during the promotional period which was from July-October. We had to speak to multiple people at the desk until finally speaking to the manager in order to have the covid test included and wasted over an HOUR trying to explain that the reservation was booked during the promotional period and that a room UPGRADE in which you are paying more money for should not prohibit you from getting a covid test that is included in a basic room that costs less money. Eventually, they covered the covid test for us but it should not have been an argument and hassle to begin with. On the morning of our second day, one of the members of our party discovered she was missing her necklaces one day after check-in. When she reported it to the front desk they were very rude. An "investigation" was conducted but of course nothing ever came of it and a police report was never filed like she was promised. In fact, she was asked "are you sure someone you are traveling with didnt steal your belongings?"-way to divert the attention away from your hotel staff Bahia! Due to this incident, all of us that were staying at the resort kept our "do not disturb" sign on our doors and only asked for new towels daily because we did not want hotel staff in our rooms unattended since they could not be trusted. For the record, I have travelled all over the Caribbean and to Mexico several times and have never experienced a resort as poorly run as this. I would not recommend this resort to anyone and would caution anyone looking to stay here in the future. I certainly will not be returning to this resort in the future. read more

This problematic hotel is about 90 minutes from the hotel, but if you're even considering this hotel, that shouldn't be a problem. That was not our beef either. The taxi ride from the airport is about 1150 pesos (18pesos per dollar). We booked directly through the bahia principe website and had the taxi ride complimentary. My parents booked through JetBlue Vacations and had to pay for a taxi. Pros: The pool was amazing. Certainly one of the best pools in the Caribbean. Big. Spacious. Cons: This is where I started to have many problems with the hotel and the problems far outnumbered the pros. We are not difficult people. 1. You should know that the beach is algae infested and fish infested. There are man made rocks that outline the beach and create a lagoon without any waves. May be a positive for some. It is also seaweed season - but this is not something the hotel should be blamed for. 2. This resort is a victim of it's own size. The rooms are too far from the central area and the electronic trams that they offer are few and far between. One employee said that they run every 10 - 15 minutes. We tried to hitch a ride while walking to and fro the main lobby to the room and we were certainly ignored by various members of the staff. We cannot state that the time wasted traveling between rooms and the main area is significant, especially in the context of a 4 day vacation. If you go back to the room even twice - you lost an hour in travel time + Whatever time you take within the room. Waste. 3. We made reservations for a restaurant on site and they said that 530p was the only thing available. We show up at 6p ( Because the tram system is tardy!) and lo and behold - there were nothing but open tables from 6p to 8p. We ended our day early to make the dinner reservation because we were told that there were no other options and then the entire restaurant was empty. 4. We made a dinner reservation at another restaurant and we asked prior to making the reservation if there were vegetarian options available as half our group were vegetarians. They re-assured us that they can make veg options. On the day of the reservation - we looked over the menu and were shocked to find that there were no vegetarian options. The Public relations office (Essentially customer service) called the restaurant and asked if they could make special accommodations, to which they responded that they couldn't. Ruined our night. 5. Time spent waiting for the public relations department was immense. You need them to book restaurants and ask other random misc questions to make sure you can get the most out of your experience. We tried to make restaurant reservations and the "system was down". Assholes. So we had to wait on line again on a separate occasion and waste more time. 6. When we had to arrange the timing of the complimentary shuttle for the return flight to the airport - they stated that the timing of the shuttle was non-adjustable. We had to wake up at such an early time at 3 AM for a 8AM flight. And we were the only ones in the taxi. If we were the only ones being picked up - why couldn't we arrange the taxi for the time that would work best for us? 7. The bothersome privilege department (aka The loyalty rewards membership people) will hound you to no end. Each item, individually, can be overlooked in the spirit of "Hey, nothing's perfect, and let's enjoy ourselves" but cumulatively - these items lead to a poor hotel choice.
