Drinks were pretty cheap but still big. I ordered a whiskey sour and struggled to finish the whole thing. The DJ was spinning all the latest hits and kept the crowd dancing. There was a table to play beer pong which eventually turned into a game of slap cup and even when the crowd started to die down I just kept on dancing. The mirrors in next to the bar are a great touch to get people dancing, taking photographs and just generally being happy. A lot of people ended up dancing in the mirrors (myself included). I stayed until about 1:30AM on a Thursday. I can only imagine how it is on a Friday/Saturday night. Look forward to finding out. read more

At this bar they take themselves way too seriously. The dance floor's not huge, and the music is okay but that, in no way, makes up for the staff. The bouncers were so rude to me and my friends when we were heading out just because we were waving/signing to our friends who were already outside through the glass (I guess they thought we would... break... it? With our... breath??) And then they started screaming and literally dragged one of my friends by her wrist (literally a small, 5'2 woman who left with physical bruises on her who totally would have responded to words), which was totally unnecessary (not to mention she wasn't even near the glass). There are way too many bars in the Washington D.C. area to have to settle for something like this that's just okay with rude staff that treat people however they feel like treating them that day. I certainly won't be back, and I can't recommend that you head there either. read more

My go-to place for a girls' night out complete with dancing. Grand Central never disappoints. It was the highlight of my sister's bachelorette party when everyone on the 2nd level started chanting "she's getting married!" and buying us free drinks. Ahhh, I love this place. Oh, and they project movies on the wall at the dancefloor. No sound, but watching Goonies and Old School while you dance is quite cool. read more

I've only ever gone here for late nights on the weekends. This place can get pretty packed, which for me is a negative. They try to straddle the rift between bar and club, and I suppose they do a pretty good job. The bars are well stocked, though not always accessible through the crowds. There are several, so if the main one is packed, it's worth a look upstairs. There are dance floors on every level, and people make use of it, to be sure. They do have a minor dress code: At one point they made my friend check his hoodie at coat check. Not a big deal, but something to note. Probably the most stand out aspect of Grand Central is the photo booth. I have had a few rough mornings where I checked my jacket pocket only to find a photo strip from Grand Central of me and a friend with the heading of "I freakin' 'heart' you." I still don't know how I feel about that. All told, there is nothing remarkable about this bar. Yet somehow, I always manage to have a good time when I go. read more

I went there for Sunday brunch because of reasonably priced drinks - $4 mimosas, bloody mary's and irish coffees. We ended up not ordering food because the bartenders never took our order! My friends and I sat for 45 minutes with our drinks before finally asking for one more round of drinks and the check. It wasn't until we had the check at our table that the bar tender finally asked if we wanted to order food. We got breakfast sandwhiches at the Adams Morgan Coffee Shop instead. I continually find myself coming back to this place. I bring my out of town friends here and their feedback has always been positive. They never charge a cover fee and the music is always great. I like that you can get the best of both worlds: a bar if you feel like just drinking but also a dance floor for when the drinks get you into that dancing mood. The location is also fantastic with a 24 hour diner a few spots down as well as falafels and jumbo slice pizza. You can't go wrong here! read more

I have worked with Grand Central the past three years on fundraisers for Home Court, a Georgetown Law student organization that raises money for the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless. While in DC, the group of people I was with decided to hit up their local nightlife spot, Grand Central. Upon walking in, it was a typical bar/club scene and was SUPER crowded. We lost each other in the crowd so I stopped and waited for my friends. As I was waiting, a girl was walking around with shots in tubes and offered me one. I didn't want one, but I thought it was decent that they walked around with them for those that wanted them. We made our way upstairs and retreated to the far side near the window. There was a huge TV with the news on which was a bit distracting as the area we were in was a dancing area, not a bar area. The music was good for about 15 minutes until, like every other bar, it turned to techno. We took that as a sign that we should go elsewhere and left. One thing I found odd was that as we were dancing, a man came up and tried to sell us flashing lights and flowers and such. He wasn't even a club vendor - he was a street vendor. I noticed this was a recurring thing in Adams Morgan as it happened again in Madam's Organ! So strange. read more

I was called a "bitch" and was told "fuck you" By one of your bouncers when I was trying to use the restroom around last call. While the same bouncer let other individuals use the restroom. I asked politely. I also talked to front door staff about how rude the staff member indoors was...they were rude to me as well and would not give me the name of the manager or owner. I will NEVER come back to this establishment again. I spent a lot of money at this bar. NEVER AGAIN... stay away from this place unless you want to be treated with disrespect...so rude I have been to many bars and never had as bad of an experience. read more

I went to grand central over the weekend when they were busy and had a big crowd for a WWE fight on their TVs. After standing in line for what felt like hours, I went inside with my group of friends and ordered some drinks. The first set of drinks we got were fine, until we went back to the bar and the bartender started a whole argument with me and my boyfriend over my card not working. I checked my phone and I got a text from my bank asking if I was attempting to pay at that location, so obviously I just had to confirm with my bank and it was going to work. I told her that and she continued screaming at me and my boyfriend saying my card didn't work and I needed to hurry up and was extremely rude. I personally work in customer service myself with food and drinks and know that is NEVER an appropriate way to speak to any customer regardless of the situation. She could've given us one moment of patience but had no respect for us. To make matters worse, today I checked my bank account and see the amount my card was charged has changed. We had ordered 3 drinks which totaled to $27 ish and it's reflecting as $35 now which only tells me she tipped herself on the receipt. I know this because I never received a receipt to sign after she swiped my card again and it worked. This is extremely disappointing and I highly recommend management retrain their staff and hire some respectable people. read more

It was not just one type of liquor because I ordered three different ones, but my sister had a completely different one as well and said the same thing. Went on Thursday for happy hour which goes until 10pm. The place had a great vibe. The music was fun. Everybody seemed to be truly enjoying themselves. Apparently there are games on the upper level. It was laid back, yet trendy. One of the bartenders either was hard of hearing or just plain rude, I don't really know which one. He made me an amaretto sour when I asked or a vodka sour then made a face when I asked him to remake it. He also charged me for a pitcher of beer when I only asked a cup so...yeah. Fun party! A good place to go have fun with friends. We went on a Saturday night. Bouncers kept track of how many people were getting in and out, and it was perfectly crowded for a dance club. We got in after waiting in line for 5 min (was it at midnight?). They were playing fun tacky danceable music all night. I wouldn't have been surprised if they had mixed in some 80's rock. So, where do I begin? Listen; before my first arrival to Grand Central, I only heard a couple of stories. Stories which included excessive barfing from playing too many games of slap cup and flip cup; drunk people making out like its 1999; out of control dance moves all for the sake of having some uncontrolled fun. With that being said, I wanted to make a visit. Has any of aforementioned events happen to me as of yet during my visits to Grand Central? Well, a smart man once said "I plead the fifth", and I would like to borrow that quote for this particular review. Nonetheless, my couples of experiences at Grand Central have been for the lack of better words...interesting. Not interesting as a snark to mean weird, but just that...interesting. I ain't gon' tell no lie, I might make a couple of unexpected visits throughout the year in order to examine the crowd and act accordingly, or at least get a couple of beers. There have been times I have come here and I had some good times, mainly on Thursdays, and some flat out not-so-good times (beef sausage fest), but I'll give Grand Central the 2-star treatment for the time being. read more

The primary issue that folks not from around here fail to realize is liquor laws generally require most bars to serve food, bars lose money on food, it's not really a primary concern. Want good food? go to a restaurant. The dress code is again effective on weekend nights, this is where nearly the entire staff of Tom Tom went to so they instituted the same rules that worked there. This place opened up where Fasikas used to be (and burnt down, unfortunately). It's vaguely fashioning itself after Grand Central Station in NYC. Except it feels like the designer got bored after painting the intricate subway-like ceiling along the top of the bar. That is their first mistake. Their second one is not being quite sure if they are a restaurant, bar or club. That being said, the happy hour rocks and their drinks were decent. I came here on a Saturday night for a friends birthday party with 5 other people. We were bar hopping and decided to try it out. It reminded me of a slightly less crowded and better laid out Tom Tom. I'm not a fan of the Tom Tom/bar/club/frat party hybrid, but it was tolerable. It was pretty fun for what it was. The DJ played the typical top 40 music. He had his girlfriend in the booth with him and seemed more focused on grinding with her than mixing songs. At least he was having a good time. I might go back with a group. read more

Tons of levels with lots of bars. They didn't charge cover on a Saturday, but not sure if that was a promo or something....Right in the middle of Adams Morgan so check it out just to see the weird interior. Watch your step though because you might be going down a set of stairs that might take you to a weird part of the bar. Wouldn't be too bad to stop by during a bar crawl. Those from SD, CA would compare this bar to perhaps PB Bar & Grill or Tavern. Def. chill, not dressy at all, super casual bar. It was fun to dance even though there was not much room. My friend and I stumbled into this bar to get our happy hour fix, and boy were we fixed! The drinks were $3! Can you believe that you can find $3 drinks in 2008?! A really diverse crowd, nice bartenders and not too many people. Once it got late it began to get a little tight, but other than that everyone had their own space. The bar is divided into 3 areas: Main/entry floor with two bars, a dj, dance floor down a set of stairs, and then an open upstairs with another bar and tvs. No cover is awesome and a fun atmosphere. I had a blast here. I'm not sure why...maybe it's just because I haven't been out dancing lately. Whatever the case, I liked the music--except the Hannah Montana they insisted on playing. There were a lot of people, but not too many that you wanted to kill someone....well apparently SOME people do want to kill each other, but that's life, I guess. I've been going to bars on 18th Street since I was back in school. Of all the places I've been to Grand Central is by far the Best Bar in Adams Morgan, hands down. If you're going to be a good neighborhood bar you need to do a few things right: 1. You need a staff that is friendly, courteous and always willing to go the extra mile...even for the drunkest of guests. 2. You need good food. 3. You need drink specials that are not going to break the bank. And most lastly 4. You need bar management that understand that population they are aiming to serve. Grand Central doesn't bring you the frills and nonsense that some other high end bars try to bring you. Instead you get exactly what you ask for which is a good, safe, and fun time out on 18th Street. Grand Central meets all of those criteria and as a result they are usually packed to the house on the weekends. Must be doing something right!? So if you want a no-nonsense fun time out in Adam's Morgan, go to Grand Central. Ask for Ali and tell them Anthony sent you! read more

The torch has now been passed to Grand Central which has a nice dance floor and THREE bars. I can always find a drink. Great music.
