What Happened ??? Our previous visits here were great. That's why we kept coming. Today, though ??........ Not good. As trivial as it sounds, they've removed the top shelf mimosas from the menu. They had Gran Marnier in them with a strawberry on top. Awesome mimosa. Now gone. We had to jump through hoops to get our server to bring us a Gran Marnier neat that we could mix in with our mimosas. Problem solved, but a PITA. Then, our food. One of us wanted biscuits and gravy. We were told they were out of that. That person then ordered an omelet that came missing the spinach and side of gravy. Our server corrected that, but just another PITA. Then, we see biscuits go by to another table. What? So, they have biscuits....they have potatoes (as evidenced by our home fries), ..... they've gotta have chicken (who ever runs out of chicken ?), they have gravy (we just got a side of it).... that's "biscuits & gravy". I don't get it. That leaves our two other omlets. One was missing the hollandaise sauce (corrected by our server), and the other had all the ingredients, but came out overdone, dry, & not very hot. No effort put into cooking at all. I ordered the spinach ricotta ravioli- the spinach still tasted bitter, zero seasoning in this & a huge pool of oil floating under the few pieces of ravioli given. In that plate, no flavor AT ALL. Also ordered a fish dish for my partner, the fish came in a couple chopped pieces, and no surprise-- no flavor there either. Even the cookies were made with no care. Super greasy, small and tasted so lousy. How can someone screw up such a simple thing? I was better off staying in and cracking open a can of Chef Boyardee and Chips Ahoy cookies. Pretty nice place and solid foods and cocktails. However, need to handle mistakes better. For some reasons they added shrimp to our pasta, we pointed to our server. She was going to take it back to the kitchen, but since everyone else already had their meals ready, we said it was ok. We got charged for the shrimp at the end. We pointed to our server about the extra charge, and she still left the charge anyway. In most restaurants, this kind of mistakes would not be charged back to their customers. However, it seems this restaurant has a different policy. I guess we'll go somewhere else which are not nifty gritty to their customers. read more

We love Grand Lux Cafe! I don't know if we come at the right times or if it's always this way, but we always luck out and get the best servers here. Our waitress was a sweetheart and somehow persuaded us to try their peach bellini to start off. She did not disappoint. As a sister company to Cheesecake factory, the menus are extensive. It doesn't make the decision any easier since there's pages upon pages of selections to choose from. Luckily, I was still somewhat full from a late lunch so I knew to order something off the sandwich section. I opted for the Grand BLT while my friends ordered the lemon chicken piccata (my other go to), miso salmon, and salmon cooked 3 ways. All were plated so nicely and smelled sooo good. Everything on our table had a lot of flavor and we had no problem finishing it all up. Seeing that they offered some made-to-order sweets, we unanimously decided to order beignets for dessert. After 30 minutes in the oven, the fluffy powdered pieces arrived to our table. Off to the side were three glazes to dip them into. Sooo yummy and a nice treat to top off our early dinner. Even though we are a 30 minute drive down Rt. 80, we will definitely have to come back sooner than later. read more

I don't know why Grand Lux generates such criticism. It's exactly the same experience, food, and quality that I expect from Cheesecake Factory, and everyone I know loves Cheesecake Factory. Is it because Grand Lux brands itself as 'higher class' than Cheesecake because they use organic/fresh/whatever materials? If I'm judging by ambiance, service, and food alone, I can't find anything that significantly sets this place apart from Cheesecake, and that's including the price point. It's consistent, I-know-what-to-expect American cuisine. Free bread, friendly service, large seating areas. Personally, I enjoyed my soup and sandwich combo for a late Sunday brunch. My only gripe is that the soup selection is limited and what I had (cream of chicken) was too sweet. However, everything else is right on point in terms of what I'd expect from a restaurant of this type that charges this amount of money in Garden State Plaza. No, not the most orgasmic food experience you'll ever have, but compared to some of the crap in the mall, it's much better. read more

It's Grand Luxe and being from a city where I've been many of times to a well ran and perfectly located it's hard to get excited at other locations in places like this (the mall). The staff (host) is one thing that I say remains constant at this location as we visit NJ often to visit with inlaws and we tend to come for Happy Hour here as the Blueberry mojito is amazing and perfectly priced at $5 for HH. Now the wait staff in the bar area is what IS NOT CONSTANT. The attitudes vary vastly as I've had amazing help and then I've had HORRIBLE service with a frown. The food is good, you can get lost in the menu same as their sister restaurant (Cheesecake Factory) which is why we like Happy Hour for less of a menu with fewer choices that are all tasty to say the least. We Love Grand Luxe so this place will see us again as its the only one near my In Laws. The baked to order Beignets and cookies are AMAZING they take 30minutes so don't forget to order in advance ;-) read more

Today's service was horrific! The bar area has only high tables available but they won't seat anyone in the booths or other tables. This restaurant does this constantly and today may be the last time I dine here. We came in at 4 pm was told the wait was 30 mins which turned into 50 mins! The line was everywhere and on top of that the seating at the other booths Never was filled! To make matters worse by the time we sat down we ordered drinks with came in with a fly as an additional garnish. Like yuck! They were out of bread and butter so it arrived only a few mins before our meal. Not sure what's going on with staffing & management these days it just needs to get better. Came here today for lunch while exploring Garden State Plaza. Inside looked nice, kind of reminiscent of a Cheesecake Factory in terms of decor. When we sat down the booth and table weren't COMPLETELY cleared off, there were still some crumbs on the table and seats. Another complaint was the lemon in my water looked like it had gone bad, and the bread brought to the table was a little bit stale, which was disappointing because it looked super hot and doughy. Enough with the complaints - I ordered the Asian chicken salad and it was actually very good. Filled with flavor and a nice portion. Also, our waiter was very sweet and attentive. Our server was very nice, personable, attentive and helpful. We told her what we were interested in and asked for recommendations and we were pleased with her suggestions. Food was delicious, the alcoholic beverages were on the small side and glasses were packed with mostly ice, the drink to ice ratio was crazy two sips and our drinks were done leaving a glass full of ice behind. Grand Lux's menu is a book- a very long book that they have shortened in the past few years. The food is similar to their sister restaurant, The Cheesecake Factory. Nothing on the menu is special or something you couldn't find anywhere else. However, the atmosphere is very fancy and upscale, so it feels like you're having an amazing dining experience. I've come for brunch, lunch and dinner, and none of the food I've tried has left an impact. On my most recent visit, I tried the Nashville Hot Chicken, which was not spicy. The mashed potatoes were the best part, and the vegetables it came with were bland. The nonalcoholic speciality drinks are huge, so if a child is ordering them, you may have to help them finish. I will give props to their dessert selection. Many of the desserts are prepared with advance order, and they're gigantic. The strawberry shortcake is my favorite. Reservations for weekends are a must because it gets very busy. Prices are steep because you're having an "upscale" dining experience, and service can be a hit or miss. If you want to come celebrate something, this is your place to do it. read more

Came for Valentine's Day, luckily we made a reservation I'm pretty sure the wait would of been long other wise because they were PACKED. Waited about 10 mins after i got there and was seated. Definitely recommend sitting in a booth, the other seating options are very close to other people which i am NOT a fan of. I ordered a lychee martini and my Boyfriend got a New York whiskey sour. They were both great. For starters we got calamari and Mac and cheese. The mac and cheese is my favorite it get it every time i come. For dinner i ordered the three way Salmon which i also get every time i come. I like to get the soy sauce for the middle salmon on the side because i like to add a bit more sauce. I did swap out the apparatus for glazed carrots. My boyfriend got the garlic butter stuff breaded chicken breast. He loved it. We planned on getting dessert but the portion of food was too big. We were stuffed and actually had left overs for another meal. Our server was nice and attentive. Would i come back? Of course. Worth the money? Yes. I used to really enjoy this place and whenever I went to the mall I would always get lunch here but today's experience was horrible . I waited a good ten minutes in the bar area before anyone acknowledged me. Finally I got a menu and ordered a Moscow mule. Waited 15 mins for the drink which was not even served in a proper mule glass. Ordered a "bento" Box lunch. It comes with soup and salad . I was told both soups were chicken and explained I do not eat meat. The waiter just stared at me like "oh well" nothing else was offered not even perhaps an extra veggie?! My salmon came it was covered in butter and served with THREE asparagus stalks. Can you spare it? I wanted another drink I sat and watched my drink having it's ice cubes melted by the bar station because waiter and bartender were too busy looking at pictures on each other's phones! I think grand lux is only good for their brunch. Today, had lunch specials & eh, it was ok. Asparagus was oily, salmon miso wasn't cooked all the way, spring egg rolls were soggy, returned a passion fruit martini because it was too sweet; stuck with what I know. Changed it for a mai tai. Again, it is a chain restaurant so all the food is the same, recipes as well. Now, customer service was good. Waiter changed my cocktails and took back my asparagus with no issue, no questions were asked. Overall 3 stars because of food. read more

Great dinner place for a quick bite or relaxing time. Had some tapas and a bottle of their reserved wine and it was great. The empanadas was good had a great taste and perfect bites, the mini tacos was just perfect size. You also need to try the chocolate chip cookies freshly baked, it taste so good.
