We popped in here on a Saturday to catch a (UofM) basketball game and some food and drink. Awesome bar & grill with local vibe, and plenty of TV's. The interior is rustic, in a good way, and service was super friendly as if we'd been coming here for years. The menu had a good selection, making it almost difficult to choose but all of the food we ordered was excellent! Will certainly be back, need to try a burger after seeing them come out of the kitchen haha read more

Wife and I live close to the sand bar . We stopped going thier several years ago when scoop burgers stopped with the new owner. But in the last few months this is our goto bar for burgers and beer . You can't beat thier prices or service . I love thier blue burgers and thier skinny fries are so good . Ambiance makes you feel at home . And the place gets hoping durring the football games . All I can say is wow! A level of service I never expected! In from out of town and stumbled upon this place. Excellent food, better than reasonably priced drinks, every game televised on the screens, a great band (the magical johnsons?) and Tom dropped me at my hotel when Uber couldn't be bothered. I won't guarantee you get that level of service, but they clearly embrace their community and go above and beyond to take care of their patrons. Cowboy Burger (3/5): Pretty good burger, I just didn't like the flavor of the A1 sauce (my fault for not reading the menu carefully). The patty was thick and juicy, and the bacon was nicely crusted with black pepper. The bun was pretty good, but nothing too special. Jalapeno Poppers (2/5): The fried exterior was great (crunchy and textured), but the inside was very disappointing. There was barely any jalapeno flavor, zero spice, and it was strangely wet inside. Onion Rings (2/5): The inside of the onion ring was very wet and mushy. It was almost like a sauteed onion that was then battered and fried. The fried part was also less crunchy than I like. The sauce tasted like a blend of tartar sauce and thousand island... Not for me. Always great service. They were busy today, March 20th. But two couples walked out because they were left waiting for over 10 minutes. That's too sad. It was after 7 pm on Sunday night and the few open restaurants downtown had lines. We stopped at the Sandbar on the outskirts of town. They were busy, but we were seated promptly. A nice classic bar and grill. The servers were friendly and attentive. We ordered our food and drinks. They have a nice selection of domestic and craft beers and a full bar. I was pleasantly surprised to find M-43 on draft. We weren't real hungry so we ordered wings and a Caprese Salad to share. It took awhile for the food to arrive but it was understandable since they had a full house. The Dry Rubbed Chili Lime Wings were good as was the salad when which was a twist on a classic Caprese - Spring Greens, diced tomatoes, pearl mozzarella and basil. Understandably, they are busy but then they need to get more staff working if they're expecting large crowds all the time. I'm not sure why they haven't finished siding the outside of the bar. Sandbar is not exactly hidden, but it certainly is a gem! In some ways it's a nice local pub, and in others it's a fun reminder of how it must have started in the 1940s. My husband and his buddies love to go for beers and to watch one of the many TVs- they're always happy to feature a channel for them. Though many solely go for drinks, the food is the best part to me. The quality is excellent and consistent. My husband loves the wings and I love that I can get any burger with a veggie patty instead of being relegated to the lone, sad vegetarian option like most restaurants offer. I also want to give them a shout out for the AMAZING work they've done through the pandemic. They quickly pivoted to offering breakfast and delivery to keep their folks employed. Had a fun night at Sandbar this past weekend. Was in St Joe for the night and it turned out my friend's place is right nearby this bar. We got there pretty late, but got a table for 4 right away. They were doing karaoke thing, so it was kinda fun to have happening in the background. Seemed like a lot of locals that seemed to know each other, so that was an interesting vibe that you don't always see in a large city like Chicago. The only thing is the kitchen was closed so we couldn't get anything to munch on with drinks. So that was a bit disappointing. Just some fries or something would've hit the spot. The waiter bright us some potato chips packs, though, so that was cool. Overall fun night at a fun spot. read more

What a great find . Down for my sons hockey game and wanted a good burger for lunch . Apparently the sandbar has renovated and added in new large screen tvs across the bar and remodeled the interior . I was looking for a great burger and found it here . I had the mushroom Swiss burger and it was a great patty with mushrooms Swiss and their Russian sauce . Comes with skinny fries which were done just right . 3 stars and I'm being forgiving. Lady took 3 phone orders that came in AFTER we walked in to order. Rude Crab extremers were store bought little mozzarella looking triangles. Not good. Don't make the mistake of asking for tarter sauce on the side.... you won't get any. Dry perch sandwich with browning wilted lettuce was mediocre at best. At least the jar coleslaw added some moisture to the sandwich. Meh, at least I could get a Guinness to go. read more
