The manager on duty followed us out because I'd left my eyeglasses case on the table, which I greatly appreciated. She asked why we'd left, explained that they were coming off of a rush, and that many of the staff were in the back recovering said rush. That was not true. Two hostesses at the front, manager to our right, three people behind the bar, and a few other staff scattered around.

I wanted to love the onion rings but they were sliced thin, and the fried batter too hard. They have four or five different types of iced tea...coconut sweet tea is now my new favorite. (2 burgers, 2 iced teas and one large onion ring -$36. Too bad I couldn't rate them a 4.5 but we will put it on our list to return when passing through again.

While they've changed some of the restaurant's interior, the same great service and menu awaits each guest, whether a returning customer or an Amarillo newcomer! And one step in Malcolm's gives you a sense of the 1950s/1960s Amarillo that you've read stories about! We brought our kids here when they were babies and they've grown up enjoying it! And I enjoyed it before then, even in high school. Malcolm's has been a mainstay in Amarillo's landscape for decades and I'm glad it's not going anywhere!

I also feel very suspicious because it had NO CHEESE! The carrots obviously canned commercial carrots but no glaze. This truly reminded me of hospital food. I couldn't eat any of it, I called for a manager and got Sarah. She said that they couldn't refund me but put me down for a redo later. At this point I don't think I want to go back there. I get that restaurants are struggling but there really wasn't any reason for this to be so flimsy and unappetizing. My husband's mean wasn't much better. Asked for gravy on the potatoes and the chicken fried steak and it wasn't there on the steak. The steak also looked frozen and fried, not hand breaded like they use to be. The place is amazing!!!! The unique steaming process is really amazing. You have to try the chili cheese fries to go with it. The menu keeps its focus tight, centering around half-pound patties of lean Texas ground beef cooked to order. While traditional options like the Hickory Burger and the Green Chili Cheese Burger are stellar, the undisputed heavyweight titleholder here is the legendary Burger from Hell. I had to try it, my wife opted for the Chicken Fried Steak. Many approach the "Hell Burger" with great trepidation, expecting it to be more of a gimmick built strictly on painful, mouth-numbing heat. Instead, it offers a beautifully layered flavor profile. The beef patty with Tabasco and their proprietary "Coyote Hell Sauce," then smothers it in gooey melted cheese, grilled onions, and fresh, vibrant sautéed jalapeños. Once inside you notice the charm of it all. Dollar bills all over the walls, showing multiple satisfied customers. Two servers/ waitresses working their tails off. They were very polite and patient with all the patrons. Ordered the bacon cheese burgers. All I can say is you better have an appetite, they are half pound patties and piled high with the fixings. Excellent & satisfaction is all I can say. Also for the half & half- fries and onion rings. Hot and freshly made. This is definitely a place to try out. Interesting and the food was well worth the $.
