I came upon learning about Grandma's Famous Cafe in 2023 in the search of a breakfast burrito, yet never went to the cafe until this year. It did not disappoint in the breakfast burrito department. My husband loved his burrito . I had pupusas for the first time. I tried the one with loroco (flowers) and another kind with pork & cheese. Not exactly my cup of tea but I ate half of each one. The service was good. I liked the low prices for the food. The burrito was delicious. The mix of American, Mexican, and South American food on the menu was a delight. The cafe is tiny yet welcoming and easy to find. I liked the live plants placed everywhere in the cafe. I would definitely come back here again for a cheeseburger, omelet, or burrito. read more

It wasn't horrible but a nice little stop for a brunch. Menu is readable and pretty straightforward. Enjoyed a cheese pupusa on the side that was good minus a little undercooked. Omelette didn't feel like fresh eggs or meats. The potatoes were good. They greet you and use English when speaking to you even though it's a Hispanic ran place. It was clean and quiet. read more

This place had the best breakfast burritos I've had in a while. It's a nice hole in the wall restaurant with a few tables. Super great prices for the food portions and quality and there's parking lot around. The servers were nice. Restaurant was cute - nothing crazy with decor. They had music going in the background but you could still hear people at your table. This is going to be my new go to spot for breakfast burritos. They weren't too filling but just enough for me. Finally made it, been passing by since it opened and always on the way to something or coming from something. Greeted by a friendly staff, and being an odd hour between breakfast & lunch crowd had the nice clean dining area to ourselves for most of the time we ate our delicious breakfast. Wife went with a breakfast platter with eggs, bacon, sausage & pancakes. I had a chorizo egg & potatoe burrito. Reasonable prices for a decent meal, not over the top amazing flavor or monstrous portions, but tasty enough and good enough to bring us back in the future. Grandma's Famous Cafe is nestled in a strip plaza across from the Woodlawn Shopping Center, who offers both American and Latin eats. Their menu includes baked chicken with veggies, beef stew with rice, pan-fried flounder with rice and veggies, breakfast items, as well as pupusas. Just note that their website menu doesn't match up with their hard copy menus in the restaurant - for example, the 'Steak and Cheese' listed on their site seems to show that it's more of a cold sandwich that has avocado and sprouts on a multi-grain; however, I was looking for the steak and cheese that's grilled with provolone and onions. I stopped by for an early lunch, and I ordered a Steak and Cheese without the lettuce and the tomatoes, as well as 2 cheese pupusas. The Steak and Cheese comes with an option of french fries or a bag of chips of your choosing; I opted for the fries. The sub was okay - it was definitely generously filled, and the steak bits were very juicy and tender, albeit some fatty pieces here and there. I do wish that it was seasoned more, as I felt that it was more on the bland side. This also came with a pickle spear. The pupusas were super hot and cheesy; it had a nice little crisp exterior, and I prefer using my own hot sauce. This was yummy, and I would order these again! There was a signage featuring the breakfast specials of the day, such as a Ham, Egg & Cheese Croissant, Chorizo Burrito, a Veggie Omelette, a Chicken Rosemary Focaccia, and a Tuna Melt - I'd be curious to try these or a new item feature on the next visit! Service was super friendly and welcoming, and there are only a handful of seating inside. Food is made to order, so you'll be waiting for a few minutes or so for it to be ready. ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Darn swell Latin diner experience. Mrs. Potatohead and I stopped on a Friday evening, 6ish. We'd seen this joint in passing and finally opted to partake. Dear fans, we are glad we did so. Upon entering, you're in a nothing-fancy small diner, a half dozen or so tables, but clean. Staff is perfectly friendly and efficient. Menu's not huge. Small kitchen. But the payoff is the grub. She had the $16 platter of steak and eggs, two pupusas, fried plantains. Steak was pretty tender yet lean and a nice marinade. Plantains were a bit sweet and tender, not oily. I had the $19 carne asada with fajita steak, side of rice and of refried beans. Ditto on the steak. Both meals, good portion sizes; we was stuffed. Also had one cheese pupusa $2.50 as an appetizer. Fresh and warm and melty cheese and a nice mild salsa. Good sized. Closed on Sundays. Seems to do a very brisk takeout business. Plenty of smoke parking as it's in a shopping plaza. Definitely see ourselves returning. read more

Breakfast review: Grandmas recently opened next door to my favorite local watering hole Chalkboard wings and bbq. Grandmas famous cafe is one of very few eateries in the area that are open early. (7am). I've only been for breakfast so far, but I'm always met with a big smile and friendly greeting. I highly recommend the bagel sandwich and breakfast burritos they are delicious! I'm a very big fan of the sautéed peppers and onions and potatoes they put in the burritos. I'll be sure to update the post once I've had a chance to sample their lunch. read more
