Small little local Chicagoland burger joint. It's a cool little place with a great owner. Very welcoming! The burgers were big and juicy. The hot dogs were spot on. You know what? I think I have to give this place another try honestly. I was starving driving down the street when I came across Grando's! I walked in and they had a decent amount of space to dine in. It felt like your mom and pop shop which I liked. The cashier who I felt was the owner was so nice to me even tho I was not dressed to impress. I just felt the genuine kindness from his heart. I ordered my bf the Gyro and my thick lovely self had a bacon cheeseburger and we split the fries. Im so happy to report that the burger was delicious and had everything on it, grilled onions, tomato, bacon, mustard etc. The gyro I honestly didn't care for but my bf smashed it! He ate the whole thing! Damn near ate the wrapper! lmbo I am not kidding. So based of his review Im going to say it was good and the fries were shoestring and fried a little soft to my liking but they were still good since I ate all of mine. I sadly didn't take any pics since my order was to go but Honestly I think it's worth the try and I would be back to try something different. read more

Just stopped by for a quick bite after music lessons. It was a pretty standard Chicago area hot dog stand. Italian Beef sandwich with hot peppers. Kid's enjoyed the cheap hot dog special. We also shared a pizza puff which was just right. They were speedy. Prices were good. The food was brought to us and he was pleasant. Place was clean. No complaints really. read more

This place has improved their Italian Beef game in recent years. It is now amazing. This is the first time I've had it in 5-10 years. The beef was so good I had to go back and try the burger. The burger was good as well. Everything is always served nice and hot. I don't remember this place being good in the past, but I love the beef now and the burger is a nice change of pace. Ordered a pizza puff, cheese fries and a medium Pepsi through GrubHub. They burnt the pizza puff. Seriously. And they didn't think it was appropriate to remake the pizza puff. I guess because it's "only" a GrubHub order, and they don't care about professionalism and quality. The medium Pepsi was a 12 oz can of Pepsi. I feel that this is somewhat deceptive. Paid $2.25 for a can of soda. Plus all of the usual GrubHub fees. read more

Driving through Itasca and the hubs announces he wants a gyro. I think for a minute and remember there's a spot at Irving Park Road and Old 53 that I had been meaning to try. As we're walking up to the door, he announces they don't have gyros...um, how would you know since we've never been inside and there's no "We don't serve gyros here" sign on the door? With hesitation we walk inside. As we approach the counter, we are kindly greeted and he again announces that they don't have gyros. Well, they do have gyros and he ordered them. Lol...I think he just wanted me to be wrong about this being a gyros spot! I ordered Greek chicken on a pita. We filled our drinks - they have Pepsi products - and we grabbed a table. About five minutes later a gentleman brought our lunch to the table. Here's the breakdown... The fries were super hot. They're not fresh cut potatoes, but they were good and not oversalted. The pitas had been warmed nicely and were also fresh. They weren't overly chewy which was a nice change of pace. The gyro meat was very good (according to my lovely dining companion). I like how they prepared the chicken. It was seasoned and cut into bite sized pieces so I was able to eat it without having it fall all over. The tzatziki sauce was served cold and it was nice and thick. The onions and other deliciousness were chopped small so it was easy to scoop and eat. This was one of the highlights! As we were finishing up, the same gentleman came over with a hot dog with everything. He apologized. Apparently my husband was very hungry and also ordered a .99 hot dog when we were at the counter, but they both forgot about it. When I asked about how it was, he said it was good and the bun wasn't stale. I'd call that a win. read more

Grando's Beef and Hot Dogs is your typical independently owned and operated Chicago style fast food eatery. Serving Hot Dogs, Burgers and Italian Beef sandwiches, the menu should be very familiar to most native Chicagoans. The inside of this particular eatery is fairly clean with a few tables on the inside, an R.C/ Nehi pop machine and a large counter with a menu board above it and a long grill where the food is prepared. In visiting Grando's I was looking to add yet another location to my hot dog review list. I decided to order a hot dog along with a burger and fries combo. We'll go over the hot dog first. The hot dog I received came on a slightly dry non-poppy seed bun. The sausage itself was skinless and tasted like I would expect but the application of condiments here was a bit rough. There was a little too much mustard, and the dog was light on relish and onions by comparison. The pickle spear used was a tad on the sour side. On the plus side, the tomato used wasn't too soggy or too ripe. There wasn't any noticeable celery salt, nor any sport peppers on this hot dog. The burger I got also had a dry bun. In fact the bun had actually cracked a bit on the top. The burger meat itself was a bit on the greasy side with how it was grilled. I'd say the meat was juicy and had a good flavor, but it didn't exactly knock my socks off. The condiments on the burger were fairly good but it's generally a far less delicate process than with a hot dog. The fries included were thin shoestring fries. They were crisp but didn't have a lot of potato paste in them. I'd say they were a bit saltier than most fries. Overall I wasn't too impressed with Grando's Beef and Hot Dogs. The prices were slightly higher than a lot of other fast food joints. I'd say the burger was about average and the hot dog was a bit below average. I do wonder how they're storing their hamburger and hot dog buns as both of the ones I received were dry and cracking. One other thing worth noting is that they appear to be closed on Sundays and only open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturdays. Somewhat limited hours on the weekend which is a bit of an added inconvenience. Overall while my experience at Grando's wasn't terrible, the food was just slightly below average. This place is a borderline between two and three stars. The fact that both buns were dry, is going to be the proverbial "straw that broke the camels back" and cause me to round them down to two stars. read more

Needed some good food and this met the requirement. Atmosphere: this is a very small cafe that has a mix of tables and booths. It doesn't have much in the way of decorations, but it is a nice quiet feel to it. It feels almost as if it wants to be a diner, but isn't that big. Staff: the staff was great! I let him know I had never been there, so needed a little guidance on selecting and he did a great job letting me choose my food. Food: I had combo #1 which were a couple of hot dogs with fries and a drink. The hot dogs and buns are nothing spectacular. The condiments however were fresh and piled high on them. The fries on the other hand were amazing! They have to be just about the best fries I've had! I noticed they have a large selection of foods, so I will have to go back in there at some point to try the gyros or hamburgers, or just about anything. So, it's a good place to go to get some food and definitely nice and clean. read more

Stopped by this little hidden place and it was quite good. Great Pizza Puffs and Cheese Fries! I was told they are under new management and slowly getting the word out that they are open. They are a little hard to see in the strip mall but I work nearby and noticed that they were there and had to stop and try them out. I was not disappointed. read more

Great deal on hot dogs for 99 cents. Tried pizza puff, hot dog and gyro and all were pretty good. Gyro was a bit thicker then other places, but just as tasty. Burger was a bit pricey but great customer service! No bathroom in sight which is hard when you have children. I will try them again in the future. read more

Nice little surprise located in the corner of a small mall. This is my usual "go-to" when i can't figure out what i want as there is a wide variety of your typical hot dog joint menu items. The burgers are excellent and the hot dogs are good (Red Hot Chicago). Wasn't too thrilled with the gyro's, but I am pretty partial to Grecian Delight brand and i think these were OLympia. Went there this afternoon at around 3 - 4 so it was empty. I was the only customer. I ordered a double cheeseburger, cheese fries and onion rings. The good: the onion rings. It's hard to find good onion rings anywhere so I was pleasantly surprised. The bad: the burger had a funny taste to it. I wasn't able to figure out why. The meat wasn't bad or anything but it tasted funny. The cheese on the burger was good though, not cheap American cheese. The worst: they forgot to give me the cheese for the fries. So one of our favorite places closed down, so now we are on the hunt for a new place to get typical gyros, hamburger and fries. So I saw the reviews and decided to try it. As in true form, we order lots of different items so that we can judge a place accurately and not just in one food item. Mozzarella Sticks - hot, good marinara Mushrooms - hot, horrible ranch basically water Cheese Fries - cheese was good, fries tasted like they had been freezer burned and then fried, so they basically were hard sticks with a rubbery inside. Gross Onion Rings - um, they were so overcooked I couldn't find any onion, maybe there isn't any. Idk! Hot Dogs - okay, but nothing to write home about Gyro- ick! It was possibly the most unappetizing thing I've ever seen. I don't think it came off of a spit, because it look like a battle axe was used to chop it up. It chunks of meat instead of actual slices. So after getting past that, we tried it and it tasted like old frozen meat. Gross Hamburger - no flavor, but the grilled onion were a nice touch. Bun was stale, but they toasted it to try to cover it up. Tamale- this was by far the most awesome of all, it literally came in a microwaved pouch. So thanks, we could have spent less and bought a bunch from Walmart. How is that okay? I mean at least throw out the pouch and pretend like you made it. Shakes - those were good! So long story short, go at your own risk. I literally question the good reviews and whether or not they are real because I can't imagine anyone giving it more than maybe 2. I would suggest getting a gyro from the walmart frozen food section and saving your money. Actually getting it all from there. Even the shake you could get anywhere else, there is literally nothing I would go back for. I don't even like to leave negative reviews because these are people's livelihoods, but I'm sorry this was just that bad. read more

I've only eaten the Gyros here but they are delicious. They are slightly crispy as he shaves the meat. I wish he served Coke.

Service was great. Owner was very friendly and the food was really good.
