Especially the bread you can taste the freshness and this place has a family owned blue collar vibe with long lines for lunch that move quick! I found this gem of a sandwich joint by accident. I actually targeted a Chicago dog place next door, when I pulled up in the parking lot and saw Rammy's I changed plans and went for Chicago roast beef. This place is just your ordinary strip mall place. It's kind of normal inside but also entertaining. Plenty of seating and fun stuff to see. The guy behind the counter is enthusiastic about his establishment and happily guided me to choose a fantastic sandwich. The #13 is roast beef and provolone with garlic Bread and pesto. I grew up in Wheeling and would always go to the shop there. I moved away and recently saw there's a location in Elk Grove. It's been 10 years since I've had Rammy's and ecstatic about not having to drive an hour to a location. Well, unfortunately, it was a waste of time and money. The roast beef was dry and had zero flavor. But my biggest issue was I asked for extra mayo. It was my favorite part about the sandwhich. Weird, I know. Well, not sure if the girl didn't hear me (although she repeated it) but I actually thought for a second that she completely 86'd it! She didn't.. there just wasn't barely any. I have to say their menu is a bit overwhelming, and I was a bit anxious ordering for the first time, especially when the line was to the door! The pretzel bun and the meat are texturally cohesive, there's a fair amount of au jus which keeps things from getting dry and make for a good chew. 2. The meat isn't stringy and isn't overly lean. Fat is flavor and their meat is a real standout. 3. Get a freaking pretzel bun, it's buttered and tasty. 4. The flavor has a ton of depth, there's cheese, onions, and jardinera. I have found my new number one favorite sandwich in all of Illinois. This eighth wonder of the world is located in a small sub shop in Elk Grove Village. The name of this restaurant is Rammy's Subcontractors in Elk Grove Village. If my loyal readers remember, I have been on a pursuit for the best sub sandwich for quite some time. A friend of mine told me about this place and said I needed to definitely check it out because I will be blown away. The one piece of advice my friend told me was to get there early. This place gets very busy. This, in my eyes, is a good indicator that this is definitely the place to get good food if it's always busy. I arrived at 11 AM on a Monday. I had full intentions of getting a typical Italian sub. That was until I looked at the sandwich board and noticed a sandwich called Rammy's Radical Italian beef. The sandwich consisted of Italian beef with pesto and garlic spread with provolone. I spoke with the extremely friendly owner's sister Kathy who suggested that I put the chipotle mayo on the sandwich with hot Giardinera. I, of course, always will do the recommendations of the workers or the owners because I do believe they know best. You have an option to choose what type of bread you want. I of course went with the Italian bread. When Italian bread is toasted, it is always the best. I waited for my sandwich and grabbed a bottle Joe's peach tea. The sandwich took about five minutes to be prepared. Kathy also gave me a small tasting of one of their shakes, which was mango flavored. It was absolutely delicious. I will 100% be back to get one of these shakes. The restaurant is set up with mainly hightop seating. I took my sandwich to one of the tables to eat. I had no idea what flavor explosion I was in for. The first bite was absolutely euphoric. The Italian beef was super tender and you could tell it was high-quality. The chipotle mayo definitely made the sandwich. It gave just the right amount of savory kick that it needed. The provolone was creamy and the garlic and pesto came through with every bite. I was in food heaven. I was able to speak with the owner, Mike Hrametz "Rammy". He told me that his place had been in business for 20+ years. I have no idea. I've never heard of this place. Every single person that worked there helped me out with choosing what to eat. Everyone was so unbelievably friendly. The longer that I sat and ate my sandwich, the busier the restaurant got. Definitely get here early to avoid long lines. There are over 20+ sandwiches that are all extremely unique. I can't wait to try them all, but definitely come in and try the radical beef. You will not be sorry. I rate Rammy's Subcontractors a 9.5 out of 10. read more

We decided the two by four was our favorite. The bread is fresh and toasted. Meats are made in house and are packed with so much flavor! They make their own mayo and pickles as well. Home cooked chicken breast, swiss cheese, bacon, avocado, red onion, tomatoes, chipotle mayo, lettuce and spices. This sandwich was really good. I mean come on, all those ingredients that I just mentioned? Once your taste buds verify this then you will know that a picture and describing it will not do it justice. All the sandwiches only come in an 8 inch size. You can get an Italian roll, wheat roll, pretzel roll (for a dollar more), or jalapeno cheese wrap, honey wheat wrap, or Naan for 65 cents more. You can go with the cheese that comes with your sandwich or substitute it with swiss, provolone, cheddar, pepper jack, or ghost jack. Service was good. You order at the counter and then they will call you to pick up your order. Based off of my experience, I will def come back if im ever in the area. Too many good sandwiches not to try. Can't forget to mention some of the sides cheddar macaroni salad and tortellini. Also they have extras you can add to your sandwich like hot peppers, extra cheese, double meat, and bacon. You've probably driven past this place many times and didn't know it existed. It's situated in a strip mall just west of the Lou Malnati's on Higgins. Besides their sub sandwiches being oven toasted, which I think just seems to enhance the flavor, they have many original ones and specials everyday. You'll also notice the play on words of sub contractors as the place is very much construction themed. The staff is always friendly when I come in. But it's their sandwiches that keep me coming back. You'll notice from the menu how different they can get, and the toppings and special sauces are fantastic. Today I got the #15 which is called the Megastructure. The name literally says it all because this sandwich is loaded to the top with meats....Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, Corned Beef, Salami, Pepperoni, Capicola, Italian Beef, Bacon and your choice of cheese. And yes, you most definitely read those ingredients correctly. This is the sandwich made for the hungry ones. On top of those basic ingredients you then get the choice of toppings like onions, lettuce, tomatoes, hot peppers, mustard, and mayo. Make sure to check out their flavored mayo's as they add another dynamic to the sandwich. One of my personal favorites is the chipotle mayo. If you're looking for a sandwich place that doesn't fit the stereotypical mold, then stop in here and grab a bite. It's our day off and we like to try different restaurants in the area. I'm glad we found this place. They are know. For their oven baked subs with the Italian beef being the best seller. They have different varieties to choose from as opposed to your everyday run of the mill beef and peppers. I tried the #18 "Ultimate Sawhorse" which is a beef with bacon, cheddar, horseradish and onions and baked to perfection. My wife got the #13 "Rammy"s Radical Italian Beef" which is a beef with pesto, garlic spread and provolone and also baked to perfection. The menu is huge and we look forward to coming back to try everything . The owner even threw in a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. Ah my god, what great subs they have in here. Nice folks and subs are packed. No cheapness here for sure.

First off, the food deserves 5 stars. I mean, I have literally not had a sandwich here that wasn't fantastic! The specials are amazing (there's a goat cheese one right now!) and their chip selection is fantastic. Service is fast and the atmosphere is friendly. :) I have frequented both locations, Wheeling and Elk Grove, and they are both excellent. Just having been there recently, however, Mr. "Rammy" himself I believe (or other tall man in charge?) was wandering around behind the counter with no mask on. That sucks. Staff was wearing masks (mostly above their noses), but then he chats with me by my sandwiches, takes my card, all without a mask anywhere in site. That's just lame and inconsiderate to the people around you. But I also needed to get back to work and didn't want to have my sandwiches go to waste if I just left, so I still paid for my sandwiches. :/ Bummer. read more
