If you're ever in the greater Cincinnati area, on the Kentucky side of the river in Fort Mitchell, you have to try the Grandview Tavern & Grille. Managed by Matthew Haws, the Grandview has recently acquired Executive Chef, Mike Nelsen. All I can say is, "Good job!" Mike has revamped the menu and brought new life and new flavors to the establishment. On this particular evening I was there for dinner with some good friends. When we looked at the menu we saw the selections of salads, entrees, and desserts were creative and would satisfy the most discriminating palette. The Food I started with the Salmon Salad although the Warm Goat Cheese Salad did catch my eye also. The Salmon Salad included peaches, candied pecans, tomato, gorgonzola cheese, and Italian vinaigrette. The blend of flavors was very well balanced. Personally, I would have preferred a little more salmon but the melody of taste would have been unbalanced. Overall, a very good salad that I would recommend. Other salads to choose from are: Caesar, Nicoise, Cobb, and Black & Bleu. Dinner entrees at the Grandview Tavern range from Tavern Meatloaf to Pasta Diavolo and for fish lovers from Pistachio Crusted Tilapia to Shrimp and Scallop Scampi. I had the Pasta Diavolo. It consisted of blackened shrimp and steamed mussels in a spicy tomato sauce over roasted red pepper papardelle pasta with spinach, and served with a parmesan toast point. At this point, I was slightly surprised. The dish was not as flavorful as I had expected. I expected the blackened shrimp to add a spicy "bite" to the dish. Instead it was all rather bland. Whereas with the salad I could taste the various ingredients, this pasta dish had no variety. "What about the grille," you may ask? For those of you craving meat from the grille, Grandview offers the standard fare: Ribeye, New York Strip, and Filet Mignon. The Atmosphere If you visit the Web site you will see that the interior of the Grandview is warm and inviting. The ambient lighting is just right. Believe me, I have been in some establishments where it seems the light is turned low because they do not want you to see what you're eating. During warmer seasons the Grandview sports a patio that they open to patrons. Recently refurbished, the patio is spacious and relatively quiet allowing you to enjoy the company you're dining with. Overall In spite of some of my disappointments, I would still recommend the Grandview. With the many menu items you are bound to find a favorite that will keep you coming back for more. For those of you who like trying something new, the menu offers the variety you will crave. The pricing is about what you'd expect -- salads around $11, entrees around $25, and grille items around $28. The service is friendly and timely and Matthew Haws will listen to your thoughts and comments regarding any of the dishes. Grandview's friendly staff served me up a hearty dinner of pan seared chicken marinated in a white wine with lemon. The chicken coating was crisp and delicious, reminding me of the way Chinese sweet & sour chicken is prepared (sans the sauce.) As a side, a creamy mushroom risotto was a perfect compliment to the meat. Fabulous food comes with a price, which is why you'll find higher costs on Grandview's menu. Our experience here was for an office lunch. A couple of us arrived early and had to wait on the rest of our party. We got seated though and the wait staff was very nice, friendly and did not seem to mind that we were waiting on folks for a bit. The food was really really good. Had the pizza, burgers, tavern Italian and some drinks. All of which were off the charts GOO! I saw that other reviews had different experiences and maybe lunch is the time to go. My husband called this place and made dinner reservations for a Saturday evening dinner for 8. He let them know that we had 7 adults and 1 child. We got there at 8 and the restaurant looked pretty full. Upon arriving the host said the only table they had was in the bar. We asked them for a different table since we had a toddler with us as we stated when we made the reservation. No luck! They happened to have a party in the back room! We sat in the bar area... full bar scene and band! On any other adult night out this may have been fine and had we been warned we would be sitting in the bar area we would have gone elsewhere. We couldn't hear anyone's conversation, the server had a hard time hearing us and it was an inappropriate area to be with a toddler. Especially since we made reservations and told them we had a child!!! The service, our server was great. She was honestly the only thing great about this place. The food.... where do I begin. The appetizers were pretty ok. Mediocre tasting for what they charge. The fried green tomato Caprese was salty, the scallops smelled like the fish market and also salty. The only app we got that was ok was the spinach artichoke dip. Dinner, the most awful dinner! Outback would of seemed like fine dining compared to this mess. The dinner salads were drenched with dressing and greens were soggy! We ordered salads NOT soup! The salmon was super salty, the fries we ordered for my little was was smothered in salt and she barely ate them, the sautéed spinach was also salty and not edible! You would think that as a manager you would attempt to remedy by comping the apps or something... THEY DID NOTHING! Horrible customer service by the manager! Comes across as a middle aged dating scene especially on Thursday nights. They do have a great outdoor patio and indoor bar but the indoor dining area is stuffy. Weirdly resembles the ambiance of a funeral home. Not sure if it's the decor or the lack of energy in the room. The food is overpriced and average. Been a couple of times because of the patio. Avoid at all costs. I don't even know where to start as it was so bad. From the beer being flat even after being replaced twice and suggested to our server to check the keg and waiting about 15 minutes decided to not have a beer !!! It seriously took over 30 minutes to finally locate the bottle of wine we wanted since no one had a clue where anything was. Most of the wine menu offering was either ran out or nowhere to be found. When the wine finally arrived I had to open it as our waitress had never been trained on how to open a bottle of wine, how to use a wine bottle opener. Then off to our dinner. We ordered apps and main courses as you would normally do only to have everything served at the exact same time !!! Entrees were sent back as we wanted to enjoy apps. Once the main course were served you could tell that the plates were just set on the line under heat lamps were they all got dried out and not very appetizing. Clumps of sauce and the short ribs were crisp on top !!! Took a bite and they were inedible just full of fat and surely not worth the $36.00 price tag. Sent everything back and didn't eat anything else. My girlfriend dinner was almost as bad as mine so she decided to order dessert as she was still hungry. Nice order of store bought frozen cheesecake with sides of squeeze bottled store bought dessert sauces. Assistant manager was apologetic and seemed so embarrassed by the whole situation that I actually felt bad for him. Bottom line the whole dinner was a disaster and I will not go back. As a gesture the wine was taken of the bill as well as my entrée. Not here to rant about it just want to make you guys aware of a really bad experience. I mean how can you just not re plate the main course and make sure it is edible and looks good ??? Got into town after a long day of moving and called around to find a place to eat. Whoever answered the phone told us to come on over because their kitchen was open until 11. We headed over and arrived around 9:45. When we walked in the employees were extremely rude and said the kitchen is open until 11 but they don't take orders after 9:45. I hate giving bad reviews, I really do. I feel like negative reviews get a lot more attention than positive ones and that's unfortunate. I also love non-chain local establishments. For that reason, I hate giving my review of Grandview Tavern. I wanted it to be great, I really did. I've known about it for nearly a decade but just last night decided to give it visit. The place itself if plenty nice, decent decor. The waitress was a sweetheart and was very good. Our food however, was not. I ordered the 3 Little Pigs Pizza. It wasn't terrible. The sliced Italian sausage was great, the peppadew peppers were good, the crust was just okay. It was very similar to LaRosa's crust. The pizza itself is, if I had to guess, about 8 to 10 inches. Not very big, definitely not for sharing. I expected more for $16 I guess. We ordered 10 buffalo wings also. They were good enough, really good actually. The absolute disappointment of the night was the chicken carbonara. Terrible is the only word that comes to mind. I've had TV dinner pasta meals better than that. Terrible for $2, much less $22. With all that being said, I hope it was a fluke. I root for these type of restaurants, I really do. Go, hopefully it'll be a better experience for you. read more

This was my second trip to Grandview Tavern, and though the service was slow the first time, we thought we'd try again. Immediately upon being seated in the dining room, we noticed the room was really, really hot. It was a muggy night in Cincinnati, and for some reason, they had the door to the patio open, sucking out all the air conditioning. We came to realize that a big party would be moving in and out between the party room and the patio all night. No one told us when we were seated that we would be sitting next to this big noisy party. I asked the waitress what was going on with the temperature, and she said something about how it was hot outside and that the air was set to 68 degrees. She was hot, too, she said. Would I like another glass of wine? The food looked good, but who can eat a big plate of steaming pasta in a blazing hot room? I tend to get really angry when I'm hot and after multiple times of asking about the temperature, I finally asked the waitress what she could do for us. I actually said to her "This is an expensive meal and I'm having a bad dining experience." Did she offer to move us away from the big party and open door? No. Did she offer to comp a big part of our check? Nope. She repeatedly offered for me to order more wine and then gave us a 15 percent off coupon. The check was $90 to sit in a hot room and barely eat. Does that sound good to anybody? So, if you are looking to go to this place anytime during the summer, I'd stay far far away. read more

Not my first time here but it's been a few years. I remember the food being pretty good when I was here before but we were underwhelmed. I had the scallops which came with grits and some kind of warm oily slaw. It wasn't good. I'm kinda mad that I just I paid $28 for 3 mediocre scallops and warm oily slaw. First time to this place was last Sunday. We went for a late lunch because we were in the area and had a gift card. My husband and I were pretty impressed. We had wings to start. I can honestly say they are probably pretty close to the best wings I've ever had. They were closing early that day (looked like a private event would be arriving) and so the full menu wasn't available. I ended up ordering the Kentucky GLT, basically a goetta burger and fries and hubby had a burger and fries. Both were delicious and messy. The atmosphere is neat and the service was great. When I review a restaurant I grade on quality, quantity, service, atmosphere, and price. This establishment failed on all categories. We made a reservation days in advance and they had the main dining room closed down for a private party. We had to set in the bar. Got moved once due to being in a cold area. Our service was slow and my shrimp gnocchi had all of 3 shrimps and maybe a half dozen slices of sausage. The fried cod sandwich was mediocre for an "upper class" restaurant. Very disappointed. And when I brought it to the managers attention it fell on deaf ears. He told me it should only have had 2 shrimps and that they "aren't Bonefish", never ate there, but thanks for referral! This is one of my favorite restaurants in NKY. I stumbled on it when I first moved here and was meeting my realtor at Huff across the street. I was early, so came in for breakfast. BEST. BRUNCH. My boyfriend and I went here for my birthday, which was Friday night. We were seated right away, but no one came to our table for 10 minutes. We were given appetizer menus only and asked for a dinner menu and they were "all being used". It took another 5 or so minutes to get our drinks. We ordered calamari for an app, but was surprised to see that it was more of a salad than anything else. After being there for over an hour, our meals came. I had the filet Oscar style and my boyfriend had the shrimp and scallop penne pasta dish. He had only two shrimp and two scallops. My steak had more sauce than I would have liked. We both liked our meals, which is why I gave three stars. I will say that we will not be going back due to the poor service. First impressions from appearance was amazing, but that's where amazing stopped! I ordered the 7oz ribeye open face with pomme frites, which is fancy for fresh cut fries. The ribeye was to be a medium cook temp, but because it was 1/16" thick, it was over well done if that's even possible. Very fatty, under seasoned, and one of the worst cuts of meat I've ever had. If it wasn't for the yummy horseradish sauce, it wouldn't have been palatable. The fries were average, again elevated when dipped into the horseradish sauce, and the Texas toast under the ribeye was very very soggy, to the point it was like raw dough. Our server was friendly and pleasant. To fight traffic and cross the river for this, is definitely not worth it! read more

Lovely place, nice staff but my meatloaf was cold. Not a fan of the big ball meatloaf. The mashed potatoes were very salty.

Went to Grandview this past Saturday night. Thought it was great! We had never been before but had one of the deals from Cincy Savers and decided to give it a shot. Seemed like the bar was pretty cool but we were in dining area, which was very nice. My wife had the Halibut and loved it. I enjoyed my shrimp/scallop penne. Only hiccup on food was lack of sauce on my dish. I'm sure they would have fixed but it was still good. Service was also good and waitress was very friendly and accommodating. I have never eaten here however we did attend a concert. It is pretty small especially the area where they have bands.. Overall friendly place just very cramped and certainly nothing fancy. If you're just looking to hang out I'm sure it is fine.. I can't recommend it for bands only because of the size though. read more
