Service was great at least last lunch ! Recommend the chicken fried chicken extra gravy, bean beans with bacon and real mash potatoes. The pecan pie was good to top meal off. I definitely would NOT recommend the chicken fried steak was the toughest cube steak ever had in my life barely could cut it with a knife and took forever to chew. Hey ... so was driving from Hutto to Bryan and decided to go the "northern" route taking me through Lexington so I could see the famous Snow BBQ shack, that is only open on Saturday. So went by Snow and of course today is Thursday, so they were not open. I continued on and passed a metal building restaurant with loads of "regular guy pick 'em up trucks" in the parking lot. That is a good sign - right? So I turned around and went back to see what it was and saw the Granny's sign. Sounded like good ole Texas country cooking to me, so in I went. Was invited to seat myself by the cashier. I picked a table close by and sat down. The place isn't huge or intimate dining ... just a typical finished metal building with tile floors, typical tables and banquet chairs. Within a few seconds the server ( I didn't catch her name, but she was great!) put some chips and salsa down on the table. Huh? Chips and salsa ... in a country cooking place? This sure bode well for lunch! And guess what - the salsa (maybe not the chips) was made in house and was excellent. So, I asked the server what she recommended and she pointed out the Buddy, all the a la Mexicana dishes, Mike's Triple Enchiladas, and the burgers - but said everything was great. I ordered the Chicken a la Mexicana which was served hot and fresh about 7-8 minutes later. It was very good. Grilled (flat grill) chicken breast with onions and peppers (Japs or Bell - your choice!!), served with a small scoop of guacamole, Mexican rice, and a cheese/onion enchilada topped with Chili con Carne. I asked for some flour tortillas (it may come with it?) and was brought three hot flour tortillas, which I piled chicken, onions, peppers, and rice into. Yum. Iced tea was refilled throughout, tables prebussed throughout, everyone friendly and smiling, great food, great service and in a little place off the road in Lexington, TX! The manager (?) or owner (?) dropped by and chatted for a few minutes - he was visible and visiting tables during the entire lunch. Ding Ding Ding ... You pay at the front and they don't take American Express - I don't blame them for that, the rate is too high ... just warning others to have Cash, MC or VISA. Even the cashier was friendly! She asked how was lunch, if I had been in before, and not only asked the questions - but waited for me to respond and listen ... it wasn't just a routine. So ... next time, not sure what I will try - when I find something really good to eat I tend to stick with it. But on this place, the next time I come by, I will have to try something else as I saw many dishes being served that looked and smelled wonderful. read more

Granny's restaurant is a sweet little place to stop in the sleepy town of Lexington. They have American and Mexican food and it's all really good. The bacon cheeseburger was my go-to for years. Now I've started branching out and trying more off of the Mexican menu and I'm pretty impressed. The Buddy Special (beef fajita tacos topped with queso) was so good. Just drove thru Lexington on our way home (Caldwell)- already hungry so stopped in to try Granny's. I am so so glad we did. Neat place. Clean, welcoming, and the food.... Let me just say - we have eaten Mexican food in the home if some truly fabulous native Mexican cooks. This restaurant lives up to anything we have eaten eaten elsewhere. My husband had the Mexican catfish which was spicy and really really good. It stayed hot the entire time he ate (not easy with fish). I had the chicken enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. You know, I wasn't sure about this place. We were passing through Lexington and figured we'd check out this joint. It was cute, and everyone was very friendly. We ordered: Chicken Fried Chicken - Yum! It was delicious. The gravy could have used more flavor though, but overall I really liked it a lot. Chicken Enchilada - This was super moist and flavorful. Tasty. Complimentary Salsa and Chip - The salsa was awesome! Strawberry Cake - I inhaled this LOL it was great. Overall, I loved this place. A super sweet find. My Husband and I enjoyed the food very much. The staff were very friendly and we felt welcomed and comfortable. I ordered the Ribeye and it was trimmed and cooked to perfection. My husband had the beef Fajitas with all the trimmings. Upon reading the review from the other visitor I could not DISAGREE with you more. I saw ZERO filth and absolutely no food in the floor. Great service! Food comes out really fast and it is always very good everytime we come by! Saturday I got the catfish plate and when I tell you, this was the best catfish I have ever had. Most times you run into dirty not cleaned properly fish that tastes like the dirt it eats, but not here! I had more than enough to take home and even a day later, it reheats well. 8 years ago, this was the first restaurant my husband took us to. The owners wife immediately started a conversation with me about our baby son. After polishing off a basket of chips and salsa, I had the Chicken Fried Steak dinner w/ mashed potatoes and grilled veggies (which were the best I ever had) and she the Enchilada Platter w/ rice, refried beans and cheese sauce. Stopped in today for the first time. They have daily specials & today was Steak fingers (2), country gravy & fries, $6.29 including iced tea & dessert (yellow cake with chocolate icing) included. The steak fingers were huge & real steak, gravy was just like my grandma made. I ordered the 2 steak fingers (for a couple $'s more you can get four) because I saw them bring an order to the table next to me & saw how large they were. Service was fast and food came out hot. Had heard good reviews so tried it yesterday. Had a steak and my other Family had Mexican. I was worried when we came in and saw the size of the welcoming servings of salsa - they were very large ! Why is this concerning ? Because, as I later saw in this Mom and Pop place, the waitress was putting the unused portions of salsa back into the mother ship of salsa ! Disgusting, unsanitary, etc - probably some health code violation as well. The food was not very good as either. My recommendation would be to avoid this place - there are other good places. Granny's is one of our regular places to eat. They have a large selection on the menu and I have never had a bad meal there. My favorite are the steak fingers - hand breaded and fried to perfection! The burgers are also amazing - fajita taco salad is good. They have the most amazing carrots! I could go on forever about the good food. The people that own it are very friendly and will stop by your table to see how everything is. The place is clean and the food is always fresh. Listen up folks... My friends and I were down in Austin for a bachelor party (one of the last to fall), and we had driven from Austin over to College Station to attend a football game at Texas A&M. On the way back - we decided there was just too much hunger in the suburban for us to make it all the way back. With the help of an iPad and Yelp app - I found Granny's. We drove around in circles trying to find it - even though once we did locate it we couldn't believe we had missed it. We were slightly nervous walking in - because we "weren't from around there" (and we were in pretty rough shape after tailgating for 5 hours before the football game) - but any trepidation we had was immediately gone right away. From the moment we walked in - we knew we had found something special. I'm not sure there was an item on the menu that wasn't homemade from scratch. From the tortillas, to the salsa, to the country fried steak - it was delicious. I only wish I could remember what everyone else ordered - but there was 100% consensus that it was delicious. The pricing was from 25 years ago - which was just an added bonus. It was the ideal small town family owned and operated restaurant. We didn't meet the chef - but Ruby (owner, server, manager, etc.) was just the most pleasant hostess you could imagine. I don't know that we'll ever make it back down to Lexington - but if we come anywhere within 50 miles of Granny's, you'll know where to find us. read more
