Was searching online for a cheap restaurant/bar with happy hour to go to for drinks with my coworkers after work and I came across the Granville Room. Honestly, their nice website and reasonable prices are what brought us here for the first time. It was a Friday and they still offered happy hour, which is awesome -- most places don't have happy hour on Fridays or weekends. But at the Granville Room, you can enjoy happy hour every day! (4-9pm on from Sun-Thurs and 4-7pm on Fri/Sat). They serve a small selection of $7 cocktails during this time as well as beer and wine on special. I had $4 draught beers (16oz) which were a steal. The food options for happy hour are mostly limited to ($10) pizza and ($5) fries, but there were different flavours of pizza to choose from which is great. We tried the Fried Chicken pizza as well as the Spicy Pork pizza. Both were tasty and freshly made. Although not on the happy hour menu, we also ordered Chicken Karaage to share, which was surprisingly good! The batter wasn't too heavy and the chicken was definitely crispy. I was also impressed with the selection of whiskey they have from different parts of the world, although I'm not a whiskey drinker. I tried a French 75 cocktail on special and it was perfect -- just the right amount of sweetness. I can see myself coming back again for casual drinks with friends. I would probably only come back again during happy hour though as the prices aren't that great otherwise. I'm so glad this bar is still open. It still pays hip hop on the weekends and they seem to now be trying to add different food pop ups as well. It certainly is different though with the new COVID protocols. But I think out of all the bars, this one is probably the safest on the strip if you are going to sit at a bar. They have plastic barriers between yourself and the bartender and also between you and the next patron. I thought I was in that old music video of for Madona's Open Your Heart-where all the guys are in individual booths looking at the stage. In my case it would be in a plastic booth asking the bartender to make me one of their excellent cocktails. I would check their Instagram to see when exactly they are open as have changed their opening hours over the time since March. Currently they are open Friday to Sunday from 6-10:30 with a new $6/8/10 food menu and happy hour and free poutine from 6-8pm....wait did I just read that correctly off their insta? I have to go back to try out their poutine. They had a pop up Pho for awhile and the last time I went I had one of their excellent Old Fashions. Came by to have a drink. Parking here is horrendous - you're looking at a bit of a walk, even with SkyTrain. The interior is quite dim, as with most yuppie-style places. Beers were some $7, which is average at best. The place is pretty packed. The music isn't too loud, which is great, as you can still have a half-decent conversation. I'm going to go a bold 4-stars for the Granville Room, even though peer pressure from other reviewers would have me hatin' on the place. Upon my Wednesday night visit to Granville Room, I found it dark, but in an ambient way and the music (of the urban, downbeat, electronic variety) was not too loud to carry on a conversation with my friends. Wednesday nights here presents an incredible special: a 6oz steak, which was grilled to rare perfection and soooo tender and tasty, with crispy fries. Peppercorn sauce and ketchup on the side. All for $15! It's great value. The service was attentive, although not intrusive at all. For example, when I arrived early to meet my friends I was immediately offered a drink. I opted to wait for the rest of the party (cause I figured we'd take advantage of the $10 off any bottle of wine -- another fab Wednesday special). The server returned with a glass of water for me, smiled and said "just in case you get thirsty." It was very thoughtful, and she kept up that level of service during our entire visit. When we did order wine, she poured the taster for me -- even though I was with two male friends. Loved it! The wine list was thoughtfully chosen with some value wines to keep the prices accessible. Nothing on the list will blow your mind, but it won't blow your budget, either. We went for the Liberty School Cab Sauv (which just made Vancouver Magazine's 2009 100 Best Wine Values list). It's pretty dark in here and not a lot of seating, but okay decided to give it a try. Not a lot of people on Friday dinner time. Service was slow, but friendly. Menu selection was very limited, but I was surprised. I ordered the Po'Boy sliders (panko crusted oysters in a brioche bun). It was really good, not soggy, and everything was done right. It was that good, I ordered another of the same thing !!! The drink Cointreuse Fizz wasn't bad. I would never have thought of mixing cointreau, proseco and chartreuse. I had no idea the Granville Room even served food, much less a full (mostly delicious) menu available until 2am, every night. I thoroughly enjoyed the bar food appetizers including some crisp corn dogs and smoked bacon served straight up with peppers and HP sauce. Their duck confit and foie gras gravy poutine was another solid option on their diverse, eclectic menu. Known for the drink program and delightful cocktails, I tried a trio of drinks. The Bourbon Smash (with Buffalo Trace bourbon, Cointreau, mint, sugar, and lemon peel) was a nice, chilled libation. Both the Cooper Union and Cointreuse Fizz were solidly bold and refreshingly bubbly. The bacon and quail's egg buns was a really another highlight. It was so simple looking yet delightful. For our mains, we tasted the roasted cornish game hen, parmesan and basil pesto flatbread, seared Albacore tuna, grilled beef tenderloin (with goat cheese potato gratin), and mac and cheese (with braised beef and aged cheddar béchamel). These were all very rich, decadent entrees and much more filling than they appeared. I'd say the mac and cheese was a standout and is easily wolfed down after a night out. I was delighted to discover Granville Room's tasty and diverse dinner menu full of comfort food options. Wow. Best dirty martini in this whole town! Hand-crafted cocktails made by an amazing bartender (I forget his name but he is the Australian). Great place for great drinks. This place is an actual bar that has an actual selection of alcohol. Top shelf stuff with a big selection. Scotch, vodka, gin, bitters, not just a general selection of cheap booze. Laid-back atmosphere, grab a table or sit at the bar. Candle-lit. We also had the poutine and the fried chicken, both which were fantastic after a night of drinking. Chicken was super juicy and the batter was super crispy and hot. Very good. Poutine is always awesome. We will definitely be back every time we come downtown for the night. Granville Room used to be my jam back in the day. Dark and classy with black leather-like seating and wood tables. This narrow bar and lounge is still quite stylish. Monday nights are not the night to go though as we were the only patrons in the entire bar. Service was fantastic. Our server, wish I could remember her name, was very attentive and helpful with the menu. I was able to joke around with her which was great. It's always hit and miss when you go to a bar on an off night. Almost like you get the off service too or hey are so bored the just stop trying all together. That was not the case at all. Old Fashioneds were on special which was right up my ally. Bartender made them in a classic "Fashion" with orange rind and simple syrup with butters. One of the better Old Fashioned I have had of late. Drink service was prompt, as it should be with no one else to serve lol. We tried their dine out menu which had the best coconut prawns I have ever had, hands down. Coconut explosion in my mouth! Juicy prawns and a great size too. So tasty! For the main we tried their meatloaf grilled cheese with caramelized onion. I enjoyed it. It was a different take on a classic and simple sand which. The dessert was sadly a disappointment. Chocolate praline bar. Should have been called chocolate rock bar because it was hard and fell apart with the force needed to cut it lol. All in all I still really like this bar! Awful! We ordered from them through doordash for some late night lasagna after a hard work day.. The poor doordash delivery guy had to deal with them being extremely late with the order.. by an HOUR! Halfway through that hour they said the first lasagna was nearly finished but the second one would be another 20 minutes because it was still -frozen-. When it finally got to us our "large" lasagna was pint-sized, overcooked where the bottom was pretty much like rubber, we didn't get our garlic bread, instead we got a tiny amount of cold half-cooked mushy fries. After reading the reviews about the Granville Room, I expected the service to be terrible. However, my friend and I came to this bar after an event just for a few drinks, and when we walked in we were greeted by the bartender right away and told to choose any table. We sat at a big comfy booth, since the place was pretty empty, and the bartender handed us drink menus and gave us a few minutes. Our server was quick, attentive, and chatty. I was hoping to have a glass of wine but after looking at the prices, I changed my mind to a vodka-cran. Drink prices seemed to be a bit more on the pricey side, which is a why I gave the place 4 stars. But I really enjoyed the ambiance at the Granville Room - casual, relaxing and hip. It has a cool, hip lounge feel thanks to the brick walls and large mirrors. I was about to give 3 stars, but the Olympic gouging was in place so it was definitely a no go for more than 1 star. Granville Room is a lounge in the entertainment district, heart of Vancouver. It tries to be trendy with a large selection of cocktails and other drinks, including Blanche de Chambly on tap, and with a Lunch only menu. We were here we other fellow yelpers for a diner. I had the poutine that despite tasting good and having cheese curds, would offend a real Quebequois. Under other circumstances I would have said I would return there, but the service was not up to the 17% auto-gratuity applied to the bill. The music sucked but I knew what I was getting into. The beer special was Red Racer for 5 bones which seemed decent so I ordered one and was duly informed they were sold out. Of the special. On a Friday night. Written on a chalkboard. Which as far as I know is erasable. Perusing the menu I saw Old Milwaukee was also 5$. But they were also out of that. ***sigh*** 6$ whisky special? Yes? Ok they had that and then our server disappeared. For awhile. Like a long while. More friends showed up which brought our server to attention. I know given the massive amount of people in the bar that she was totally swamped but when Bernice ordered her beer and they were out of that as well.... Really. OK. Now I work in the industry. We run out of things. But the first thing you should do when you run out of food or bev is to inform people. Keep them in the know. 86 that shit and wipe off the chalkboard. Either my complaints were loud enough or our server knew I was pissed but a plate of free croquettes arrived a few minutes later. They were delicious. Seriously. Like they tasted fresh and hot and better than any fucking Sysko Kitchen food I have ever consumed in a Donnelly pub. That said... they somehow did not make up for the previous 45 minutes of garbage service and lack of advertised product. I'm a fan of their happy hour (2 for 1 small plates, 7 days a week from 4-7pm)! I enjoyed happy hour with a friend on Sat. We were feeling pretty good after 4 plates between us, but got a little greedy and went for 6 and left stuffed for $40 between the two of us. Some highlights included the: Pan roasted shrimp and snow crab cake ($11) Grilled shrimp wrapped scallop skewers (12) Tomato and Bocconchini salad ($10) We also had the mussels (curry sauce) but we were disappointed that they didn't taste as good as they smelled. The mussels were fresh and a good portion though. I'd definitely come back for happy hour. Great chance to enjoy a variety of tastes and food choices for a good price. read more

I have to say that I got the worst service here and not the best food the night that I went for my friend's b-day. Man, I usually don't give 1 star ratings or even use the word "worst" in my reviews but I have to say I won't be coming back. Now let me explain myself. Our reservations was at 8pm on a saturday night. I walked in and the restaurant wasn't full at all. That surprised me as their location is on Granville street. By the looks of it there were 2 servers, 1 bartender and maybe 2 people in the kitchen. By 9:30ish the place was full and service went downhill. I notice that we would need to pay a gratuity of 18% and that's when I understand why they the servers didn't care about us. When we order food it took half an hr to come. Which I would understand when it's packed and with limited staff but man the food wasn't up to par. I had a Mac and Cheese. The macaronis were drown in cheese with a few slips of beef brisket on top. Didn't think it was worth 13.00. A friend's tuna salad was fishy. Our drinks such as Gin and Tonic were watered down. When we asked for the bill, that came fast. If you remember watching the Breakfast Club when it first came out, then this sleek and sexy bar/restaurant in the middle of Granville Street's entertainment district is perfect for you! On a Tuesday night we found ourselves on the Granville/Robson end of town in search of a place to have a glass of wine (me) and a cocktail (friend) and catch up on the gossip. People watching potential and ambient surrounds that were less than the usual 'Granville strip crazy bar scene', would be an added bonus. Our search ended upon stepping into the Granville Room on this particular night. With The Breakfast Club playing (silently) on the back wall and candlelight casting an inviting glow on the otherwise dark and sexy room, a handful of couples huddled over shared plates and small groups of friends chatted over drinks. Taking a seat on the leather banquette that runs along the wall facing the bar we had a good view of the room as well as the street (notably, the front doors of the Roxy and Republic). From the well put together drinks list we ordered wine and cocktails. The cocktail menu is broken down into Contemporary (sugary/ froufrou and adventurous mixes) and Classics, while the wine list covers all the major wine regions by both glass and bottle, and on a good price point. Similarly the beer list covered local fave's, microbrews and imports Tiger, Stella, Red Stripe etc... We didn't eat, but the food that passed us on the way to our fellow diners was beautifully plated and by the looks of things, thoroughly enjoyed. The menu covers both small shared plates and larger meals, and they have some great nightly specials. Service was attentive without being intrusive and our waters were kept full. By the time we left the couples had dispersed and larger groups had taken their place, but still the vibe was grown up, suited and fun. If you find yourself on Granville and want something more refined than the Lennox but not as boisterous as the Roxy, I'd highly recommend the Granville Room as a great place for catching up with a friend or groups of friends. read more

This drink will make you forget that every single person who is in the Granville Room is a beautiful fabulous specimen of hotness, and will instead just make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. If you have a few of these, I would wager a guess that they will make you, too, feel like a beautiful fabulous specimen of hotness. I came here for an event and was pleasantly surprised by the menu. Mr. Pink-- a cocktail with blended watermelon in it. Real real nice Lamb popsicles-- can't go wrong, baby! Scalloped potato chips. OMG coolest tastiest thing ever!!! They looked like fries or pieces of marbled chunks of meat, but they were cheesy bite-sized finger-food versions of fancy scalloped potatoes. And not the out-of-the-box kind that I made last year (shh). I know it's Granville (is it just me, or am I too old for this street) but on a quiet night, if you're in the hood order some scalloped potato sticks. Sure beats those yam fries. We tucked into the Granville Room at around 5pm on a Thursday afternoon because we noticed the place from across the street - stylish brick exterior, understated and stylish signage (nice font!), dark/sleek/sexy interior, and well-positioned to people watch. Also, we'd been walking Granville Street for hours and we needed a drink and some snacks, stat. Immediately upon entering we were thrilled with our spontaneous selection, finding very few people in the room we had our pick of seats and the immediate attention of the barternder, whose deft hands quickly mixed and presented an impeccable vodka martini, up, with olives, and a makers manhattan up, with a twist. As we perused the bar menu and argued whether to order to charcuterie ($15) or the cheese plate ($15) we were informed that happy hour appetizers are two for one. Done and done (we ordered both). While the toast points that accompanied the meats/cheeses were fairly lackluster (IMHO, crackers would have been better), the charcuterie plate featured thick proscuitto, some kind of jerky (buffalo, perhaps?), and hot dry coppa (I think - my memory isn't what it used to be), paired with cornichons, whole-grain spicy mustard, and pickled onions. The cheese plate featured three distinct cheeses (morbier, Roquefort, and a hard cheese (pecorino, perhaps?) - each perfectly accompanied with candied nuts, chutney, and olive paste. We really enjoyed the music that was playing in the bar while we sipped and snacked, which is a first in any bar in any city, and thought the high-gloss photography splayed on many of the walls, which featured sexy club girls in poses such as "passed out on the sidewalk outside of a club, looking less than impressive" was entertaining without being gross (more Vogue than Vice magazine). If I lived closer I would absolutely spend a weekend evening or two here, checking out the scene and drinking more perfectly concocted beverages while people watching the night away. read more

I know the Granville Room doesn't stand out to a lot of people, but my most recent visit prompted this review. I went on a Thursday I believe, where the mussels and highballs were the special - and were they ever! Had some Hendriks Gin with tonic, ordered the mussels and some fries. Drinks are solid, as they should be from any place on this street ....but the mussels - WoW. I didn't know they have been breeding mussels on steroids for the Granville Room! I was skeptical about how they might taste since a) by recommendation of the barkeep, i choose the curry flavour instead of white wine sauce and b) they are HUGE. **btw, I generally don't like mussels, honest.** First bite: I looked at my friend and gave him the "holy cow, this are GOOD" look (wide eyed, with 1 hand still holding the mussel shell, still hunched over the plate). It was a massive serving of massive shellfish, and it was cheap! Excellently prepared, Yummy and they did not skimp on the portions. It fed both of us, and then we had fries to top us up too. Spent the night in Vancouver recently and started off our night at the Granville Room. It was a beautiful bar with a great vibe and atmosphere. My friends started off with irish car bombs and I enjoyed my first glass of absinthe. Our waiters and bartenders were both attentive. I was prepared for the auto gratuity (aka olympic gouge as a friend calls it), so I presented them with a 20% off coupon from the Entertainment Book website - ha, take that! I ordered a drink called El Respatado - muddled with strawberries & basil. Oh it was muddled all right. Muddled with tasteless strawberries and I think the ice took up most of the glass. I would never pay $9 for a drink that small ever again. I'll never come here again. Mostly because it's nothing special. They are trying to be like everyone else on the granville strip. Foodwise, my mussells were okay but the POUTINE is better at Costco. And 9 fries on a plate does not consist of even appetizer. Quite the decent bar in an area full of club goers. I went here in a group of 4 and we were all impressed by the look and feel of the place with black tiling on the long dark wood bar, exposed brick, hardwood floors, hardwood flooring on walls, and candles at every table. Even the bathrooms are nice as they are single person bathrooms for either male or female users with white tiling along the walls and embroidered wallpaper. They offer a unique arrangement of cocktails. I had quite a few here but one I do remember is "The Last Word" as it was fairly bitter with liquorish hints and came with a rock candy stick. The collection of cocktails reminded me a lot of Bourbon and Branch in San Francisco (http://www.yelp.com/biz/bourbon-and-branch-san-francisco) but the surroundings are much louder and gives a lounge feeling. Overall, a very nice place to visit as the crowd is very fun. You may get some of the people strolling in from the nearby clubs but that's to be expected. It's pretty dark and quiet here most times that I visit. Usually it's a weekday apres work outing, but I haven't seen a full house here in years. This place used to be rockin' 10+ years ago. I'm sure the weekends are much busier. If you're looking for a quiet-ish place after work, then it's a good option. Every day of the week has a drink special, and the focus is more on whiskey and craft beer, which is a major bonus. The food is ok, but I don't remember anything standing out. Food - I had the yam fries with garlic aioli, they were really good. The fries were crispy and not greasy and the aioli was spicy and garlicky. Drinks - I had the citrus mule and the Moscow mule, some of the best cocktails I have had in Vancouver. Why is my rating so low, the music was so loud it was absolutely impossible to talk! I don't understand why they have it so loud, there is no dance floor, it's a tiny space and it's a lounge for heaven's sake! After my group had been there for about 30 minutes the music went from loud to deafening. You go to a lounge to talk not to try to SHOUT over the music. Monday night Happy hour = $7 appetizers and $7 modern classic cocktails. Monday night happy hour = a huge bill with lots of $7.00's on it. The boys ordered some manly whiskey drinks (as you do) and I was feeling something girly so went for the cointreau fizz. Delish and light and airy. We had the sliders (which are grilled cheese sliders, even though we were informed they were burger sliders), salt spring island mussels, jerk spice and bourbon bbq wings, and an order of poutine. All of it was freeeeaking delish! That poutine...Just whoa. Two kinds of gravy. I ate too much of it. I want more of it. The salt spring islands were in the most delish broth, the wings the perfect hit of spice and flavour, and the sliders..which were pretty meh, came with an epic spicy ketchup. This is my new Monday spot. Drinks and small plates. Uhmazing. Oh and plus our Aussie/Kiwi (he was a bit of both - I asked) was a total doll and gave us great service.
