The new owners have dragged this business into the ground. Not only do the phones not get answered with a business name, but the gal has NO idea what is going on. If you are lucky, she'll transfer you to the rude male who also is oblivious. I had a subscription to the 6 month wine package when the transfer of ownership took place. The website and app no longer work, but the charges that continue every 6 months went through for a second time today (which my bank was SUPPOSED to block). I can't even online order from other liquor stores with the same vendor due to fraud charges on the card. I miss Kate and her previous team SO much!! read more

I dunno, I can't give it one star because technically I was sold beer, but culturally this store no longer fits in with all the other businesses on the street. I wonder if they will stay open long with this new approach. The neighborhood has definitely lost a great shop. - an obvious change of ownership since I had last visited. I walked my dog over from my neighborhood east of Monaco. I came in and there was only one guy working and he was talking loudly to someone on his phone and barely stopped to greet me. The old staff would usually say hi and ask if they could help me find something. Also they had a huge wine selection before and could recommend something at a price point and harmony with food. I went back to the beer section. It was not nearly as nice a selection as with the old owners, but surprisingly they did have a few imported 20oz bottles. I came back to the front of the store to pay and they have lotto tickets and other stuff like any typical whatever liquor store. He did give me a dog biscuit which was nice. read more

Wow, I am completely gutted. This used to be our place to go and to see it in such shambles is heartbreaking. It used to be a Friday evening wine tasting and buying a bottle of wine to enjoy. Now it's degraded into a gas station liquor store. Walking in, the air was stuffy and smelled. Plastic bins of cheap shots of liquor crowded the entrance. The wine selection looks as if it has completely been forgotten about. So many open spots. The cashier had nooooo idea whenever someone would come in and be looking for something in particular. Tequila bottles littered the corner. It looked post apocalyptic. I was thinking that people might be a bit hyperbolic but yikes, we'll have to find another place. Avoid, avoid, avoid. read more

The change in ownership is catering to a different clientele. As you enter, you will ping pong between the huge crown royal display and the tacky plastic bins (there are a ton of them) holding hundreds of shooters. The beer selection which still has previous owners writing on the doors is pitiful. The liquor selection is hardly a selection and I was too emotionally drained to look at the wine. Nobody knowledgeable is working in the store. Save yourself a trip and go to Mayfair Liquors to support a small business. It really is unfortunate. read more

I used to love this shop, but Monday (6/9/25) I stopped to buy wine. The guy behind the counter did not acknowledge me; he was yelling at his phone and continued to yell the entire time I was there. Watch what they do with their point system. I was shopping here because they are similarly priced to another local store but they offer rewards. Except they frequently clear out your "get points" entry right after you enter it. If it does not say something about the number of points you've earned at the end, they cleared it. I've even stood there and asked "when should I enter my number?" Then I do, and it flashes back to the "Get points" button on their Clover. Only when they let it go through does it tell you that you have earned points. Which is fraud. read more

I've had quite different experiences at Grape Expectations since my first review. Over the last 6+ yrs the customer service is snobby at best, sometimes condescending. There's been some great employees over the years but they don't seem to last long. The recent sale has finally ruined this place - it's only been a few weeks and they've chosen to pivot from selling a nice wine selection to featuring a wide assortment of airport liquor bottles. A truly incredible choice. It's especially interesting that the literal hundreds of mini liquor bottles are the first thing that greet you as you enter the store. The extra large Crown Royal display brings that Colfax chic vibe to the very same block with two James Beard winners. I really can't imagine how this could have missed the mark more. THE Park Hill wine store, where north and south meet in oenophile bliss. It really doesn't matter which side of of 23rd you reside, we can all agree that Grape Expectations has whatever you need wine-wise. I'm a big fan of Scarpetta wines, from the same proprietors as Tavernetta and Frasca, and Grape Expectations has been carrying that label for several years now. Now they even have the "Frico" in a can! Last time I visited it was chillin' in the fridge. Speaking of, the cooler has everything one might need last-minute. Bottle of sparkling to celebrate a b-day? Sure! Rose for a picnic? Take your pick between French or Sonoma Coast. Canned vino to sneak into Lakeside Amusement Park? You know it. If you're not doing your wine selection last minute, the store has plenty of finer wines to browse Unlike the frequented corner liquor stores all over Denver, GE has lesser-known bottles so if you like that sort of thing, it's very entertaining to see what they have that's different from the rest. Side note: If you sign up for a free "frequent flyer" account, I believe there's some insider goodness involved. I haven't reached that level of discounts or emails, but that's OK. This is now my neighborhood beer/wine store and I la-la-love it. Why you ask? Well, let me tell you... 1. They have a lovely selection of wine (even carrying 4 packs of bubbly splits so I can have one drink of my favorite without being committed to a whole bottle.) 2. They are very knowledgeable about aforementioned wines, and don't make you feel bad for not being as wine-smart. 3. The beer selection is pretty awesome, too. And they are just as willing to chat hops as grapes so Coach is pretty excited to get his brews from here. 4. They do tastings on the regular. 5. They have a frequent buyer card that you don't have to carry. You just sign up and tell them your name when you check out and they add your purchases to your account for credit towards the frequent buyer program. While it's a fairly small store I think they've really included good choices in their space, the store is always clean, and the staff is always friendly. What more could I ask for? read more

I tripped on this store as I toured the lovely city of Denver and man, was I impressed! To start, they practice impeccable COVID precautions and are stalwart, but very courteous about it! Second, their selection is outstanding including many local options (eg, they have a great relationship with the skyrocketing Leopold Brothers!). Third, their staff was both friendly and very knowledgeable! Very impressed with all three associates. And lastly, their prices were amazing! This is my friendly neighborhood liquor store. It's clean and nice, so I guess I really should call it a wine store to distance it from the negative connotations of a liquor store, but I tend to buy more beer than wine here.... hmm.... what a dilemma.... whatever you want to call it, it's recommendable. The employees are really friendly and helpful--more so perhaps than the owner, who dropped the ball on a special order wine we asked for. But all around it's a great little store. Surprisingly good selection of wine and beer given it's location and size. They have wine tastings!! (Their website is outdated by a couple of years as I write this, but they do have tastings frequently.) And they're open until 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. I love this little wine and spirits shop! I live just down the street so it's incredibly convenient for me to go when I'm looking for a last minute wine purchase. The staff is fairly knowledgeable about the wine they carry and are very good at offering a selection that is within what you request. I usually will give a price point and what I'm going to pair it with and they can easily recommend some favorites. They have a loyalty program that tracks points for you as well and gives you discounts when you reach a certain point amount. Love this place! read more

Being located across the street from my place, I would give them a decent rating on convenience alone. However, their unique wine and beer selection substantiate a good review as well. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and have provided me excellent suggestions on wine and beer choices on multiple occasions. They offer wine tastings on Friday and Saturday evenings which consist of some incredibly distinctive selections outside of your usual Yellow Tail. Although prices may not be as reasonable as larger outlets, they pride themselves in quality over quantity. This is also my local neighborhood store. To agree with Carrie, it's very clean and nice. They have an excellent selection of beer (domestic to some 750 ml of Belgian beer - any store that carries St. Bernardus 12 ABT is a-ok with me!), wine, and spirits. The staff are friendly, and most are quite helpful with recommendations of wine if you need it. Most of the wine is reasonably priced at under $30. This isn't the place to go if you're seeking a *really* nice bottle for a special dinner, but if you're looking for everyday drinkers, it's perfect! read more

This store is such an amalgamation. It certainly has a wine focus, advertising 10% off Colorado wines the day I visited. Trouble was, I couldn't find the Colorado wine. The signage wasn't prominent and easily overlooked. The employees seemed more focused gabbing amongst each other and not that approachable. I finally wondered to the back where someone else proved really helpful. Quick notes: They have an extremely well priced Rochefort 10 ($7.49), easily one of the best Belgian beers in the world. Most wines are priced $10+. I wish there were a few cheaper options, but perhaps the wine was well-priced. I'm not an expert. I did leave with a nice Chilean wine for an outdoor picnic. That proved to be a winner, so nods to Grape for having good options, an interesting beer selection, but mixed customer service. read more

They've become my booze source of choice. Much better than the super sketchy places on Colfax that are even closer to my house, Grape Expectations is clean, well-lit, and always feels safe and sound. I'm very picky about beer selection and these guys generally keep a well-stocked cooler with a pretty good array of local, national, and international brews. The dudes that work there are all friendly and knowledgeable, though one of the guys that works there consistently creeps my girlfriend out because of his piercing gaze.
