Still a great spot. We stop in this area annually for an eye exam and new glasses if needed at the nearby Warby Parker and spotted this place before. This was now our second time eating here, this time with a teenager in tow. The atmosphere is one of a somewhat upscale, modern restaurant, with different seating areas. They had two large, communal tables and we had one end of one of those, shared with another group at the other end. It worked well enough and saved us waiting for a table since we didn't have a reservation. The service was very good, especially for how busy they were, friendly and courteous as well. We arrived expecting it to be super crowded, being that we could not get our initial time requested of 6:00pm we arrived and the ambiance was great. We were seated within 2 minutes. Our waiter took longer than expected to great us and take our order. He was apologetic, very friendly, and quite handsome if I may add. I was looking for a spot to have an espresso martini and a small bite after seeing a movie. I drive past J & A on the way home. I knew it'd be busy but figured I'd stop in. The wait was an hour and a half ( this was on a Saturday night) the host was very kind and said we could check for seats at the bar. Lucky for my mom and I two had just opened up. The bartender was very fast in acknowledging us and giving us menus. We ordered two espresso martinis, one with Bailey's one without. My mom ordered the J & A burger and I ordered the burrata salad. The burrata salad was absolutely perfect for what I was looking for. Light and a good portion. My mom was happy with her burger. I had one bite and it was a very salty bite. We had a wonderful girls night out here. The food was good if not remarkable. It was a very tight space on a packed night. The service was the best part of the night. Our waiter made sure to take care of us and was helpful without being intrusive. When one of my friends spilled her wine he helped her clean up and replaced the wine. I had the lunch portion of pasta bolognese. It was just enough. Ground beef and pork mixed with a well balanced sauce. One of my friends had fig and prosciutto pizza. I tried a slice and it was very sweet with lots of creamy cheese flavor and a lot of arugula on top. My other companions had full portions of pasta dishes and seemed to enjoy them. We shared Arancini as an appetizer. That was my favorite bite of the night! As the waiter said they were addictive with smoked mozzarella and a good marinara to dip them in. We were served average Italian bread with olive oil pesto dip to start. The cocktail specials were very impressive . I ordered a seasonal maple bourbon drink. Traveling for work and always defer to Italian restaurants as mist tend to be a safe bet for good meals. Ordered the Arancini app and Parmagiano (Chicken Parm). Bush were fantastic. At first thought the Arancini may be over cooked as it was very hard. But was wrong the outside was very crisp and the middle was perfect! The sauce was great! The Parm was excellent. Food was good but service left a lot to be desired. Restaurant is easy to find, plenty of parking, no steps or stairs to get in. Gender-specific restrooms are located near the hostess station. Staff were friendly and with a few tweaks this review could be a 4 or 5 star. We were seated right away - it was a Tuesday, so reservations not needed - but it took awhile for Jordan to come over. Several servers looked at us but no one knew whose table we were. Jordan was friendly but we did not see her very often. Also, we were seated directly next to another group of diners when there were four open tables in a row. And, the next couple to come in were seated at the table next to us. When it's not busy, a little space in between diners would be nice. I could easily hear everyone's conversations and it was not ideal to have the adjacent table's server's butt next to our food while she was talking to them. The hostess also looked at our table to seat the next couple that came in. There were plenty of other open tables, smh. The bread and pesto were delicious. The bread was warm and crusty and went so well with the pesto. Hubby and I shared an arugula salad and had to ask for serving spoons to dish it up onto the sharing plates. The dressing was light and flavorful with a good amount of goat cheese but a few more beets would have been nice. Hubby's tortellini carbonara with grilled chicken was very good but the tortellini was a bit overcooked. My salmon was cooked perfectly and was steaming hot, but the brussel sprouts and butternut squash risotto accompanying the salmon were room temperature, not even hot. There was also too much glaze on the salmon for me. A drizzle would have been enough, but the salmon was drenched. Jordan did check in on us but we are not ones to send food back. We did run out of water during dinner and there was no one to ask for more water. Jordan eventually came back to clear plates and ask about dessert. They have 3 desserts made by the chef at the other location but none sounded like we really had to have them (cheesecake, cannoli cake, and a hazelnut chocolate cake) plus we needed to get back on the road - we spent way more time here than we anticipated. We came out to Albany for a late lunch to celebrate a special birthday before a show. We ordered espresso martinis, one plain and the other with Baileys. Both were delicious so we had seconds. The family style calamari came with peppers (a little spicy) yummy! We also ordered bruschetta which was good but not memorable. Everyone loved their meals...especially me. The Sunday Dinner meal was marinara (without the cream for me) over penne with meatballs, sausage, and pork which I never had before but LOVED it! The meatballs were very, very bready, the only down side. I'm glad they were small because I don't think I could've eaten a big bready one. The cake was amazing and a nice big slice! We have been to Jacob and Anthony's many times and have consistently had great food and great service. The atmosphere is casual upscale with a nice bar inside. The extended outside area is a nice touch. The pasta sauce and some of their special noodles I would presume are homemade are great. Haven't had much else here besides Italian but would presume everything else is just as good. Good size portions for the price. Dropped by for dinner on a weeknight. There was a bug event in their back room so the wait was 30 minutes. However the bar was open so we just skipped the line and sat there. Went in tonight. Temperature was very low. I would guess it was no warmer than mid-fifties. Most people were wearing their coats. We asked the manager if they could turn up the heat. She told us that it felt cold because of the big windows and that since it has been very cold outside they have been cold as well. Our food arrived ok but got cold long before we could eat it. Late lunch with friends. Chicken Parm Sandwich was good. A real breast, crunchy coating some red sauce and mozzarella. The cheese could have been under the Salamander a little longer. But a good Brioche bun and the odd potato "fries" wrapped up my food. Friends had Balsamic wraps with chicken and the potato's. They were happy with beer selection while as I hard cider drinker ( particularly Nine Pin) they only had on from Two Town in Oregon. Our server was efficient and friendly his knowledge of whether the cider dry and where it was from was a bit short. My husband is a Manhattan lover, the mahogany Manhattan was spot-on so he loved it! Peach old fashioned - a winner! All were strong and none of us were driving(thank goodness). 5 stars for service & drinks. For the food...good but not quite as good. Caesar salads were mostly hearts and done were pretty browned. This has become one of my favorite places! Excellent service at the bar (Bobby you're awesome!), delicious food and cocktails, and great atmosphere. I frequently get the garlic parm wings and truffle fries because I'm addicted to the garlic and salt!! Each time I go I want to try something new but I smell the garlic and cannot resist. I have tried other items on the menu and they were also delicious. Sunday brunch is a great time to go, not crowded at all. What a stylish place with great drinks and pretty good food. My birthday this year was on a Monday night, and none of the "celebration" places I usually go to were open. Fortunately after some research we found Jacob & Anthony in Albany. The place was clean, very stylishly decorated, and had a hip but mature vibe. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, and the staff was very friendly. We sat down pretty quickly, and ordered a sweet Manhattan straight up and some sangria. The drinks were great and well made, and so I ordered a second Manhattan. Warm bread with basil and parmesan olive oil came out as we ordered our appetizers and meals. The first to arrive was the Calamari with Fried Onions and Peppers. This dish was extremely well crafted and tasted delicious as the flaky delicate crust of calamari nearly melted it in our mouths. I give kudos to any chef that can make fried food taste light. It just needed a pinch of salt to be perfect -- and this is coming from someone who almost never adds extra salt to dishes. I prefer to rely on the chef's vision of their food rather than tinkering with it. Next we dove into the arugula salad with goat cheese and beets. This was also a light and beautiful appetizer with a very mild lemon vinaigrette. My friend pointed out that it too needed a little bit of salt to be perfect. I couldn't agree more, though I also wouldn't mind dried cranberries or something that had an extra pop of sweet acidic flavor to balance out the salad. Both of us wound up ordering the same dinner, which was a half portion of Chicken Milanese with spinach and mushroom fettuccine alfredo. First, it should be noted that the half portions were plenty of food for both of us, especially with the prior appetizers. Each got a single chicken cutlet that was beautifully fried, and came out nice and hot. But the fettuccine alfredo blew my mind. Mind you, it wasn't a typical heavy white cream sauce. But rather a mild and flavorful parmesan sauce. Supported by the portobello mushrooms and spinach, which added incredible depth of flavor to the dish. If there's one critique, both of the chicken and the pasta also needed a pinch of salt. Overall we really liked this place, and was very happy to find it open on a Monday night. The staff is great, the environment was hip and clean, and the food was really good. As long as they learn to add that pinch of salt in the future, I'm sure I'll be coming back with new friends again and again. read more

Really disappointing experience. First of all, the dining room we were in was too warm. The thermostat read 73, which is a bit warm, but add a full room of people and it was even warmer. However, what really ruined the experience was the service. Our server, for whatever reason, seemed very disinterested in us. They came over to ask us our drink order and disappeared for about 15 minutes before returning with simple glasses of wine. The place was moderately busy, but not to the point that a glass of wine should take 15 minutes. We probably would have let it go had the remainder of the service not followed suit. We ordered our meals and decided we didn't want appetizers, as the bread would be enough (we explained this to the server). After seeing several baskets of bread head to surrounding tables, we began to realize that there would be no bread for us. Our assumption came to fruition when our meals arrived and no bread had ever appeared. Saved us a few calories, but demonstrated poor service on the server's part. The meals were meh. Mine arrived tepid, like it may have been sitting around a while. My daughter's pizza was underwhelming. The cheese was not hot, the toppings were scant, and the overall taste was bland. When we asked about dessert, the server ran through the choices quickly and appeared to give us a weird look. That being said, when the server returned 15 minutes later, we declined. Then we tried to pay the bill and there was no sign of the server. We ended up handing the credit card to another server, as we were ready to put an end to this undesirable dining experience. Will we return? No Will we recommend? No Was it a waste of money? Yes Poor service, expensive underwhelming food, no thank you. read more

When he left the restroom, unable to rinse the soap off his hands, the general manager allowed him to finish washing at the bar sink. What a pleasant surprise to discover this fine Italian restaurant in a shopping center near our hotel. Gréât, authentic food and attentive service-- Innovative dishes like " the Stack "-- an appetizer of crispy eggplant topped with grilled zucchini and a super tomato sauce. The dipping sauce for the promptly served freshly cut Italian baguette is just perfect. The chicken milanese is accompanied by freshly made fettuccini with spinach.. and sautéed mushrooms.. Sometimes OK, Sometimes Terrible Three weeks ago, I tried J&A Italian Restaurant for the first time. The food was good and the server, attentive but not obtrusive. Today, I took a client to J&A thinking it might be the right choice; it was not. My client, a woman in her sixties, wore a business suit and a white blouse. It was a very hot day and my lunch guest ordered a beer rather than wine. The server plopped a dripping wet bottle in front of my guest spraying water on to her blouse. My guest - too polite to say anything - the server too rude to apologize. My guest, not accustomed to drinking beer from a bottle, asked for a glass. The server glowered but begrudgingly agreed to bring one. My guest ordered a Balsamic Wrap sandwich. It arrived without any Balsamic vinaigrette. I order a hamburger with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. I received a hamburger with an onion and tomato. Worse, the hamburger was burnt on the outside and completely raw inside. Our server disappeared and rectifying the error was not an option. When my server presented me with the bill, I noted the meal he served was not what I ordered. With a smirk he answered, "I see you ate some of it...couldn't have been that bad." If you go to J&A Italian Restaurant in Albany, you might have good service and a decent meal . But more than likely, you will be disappointed. read more
