Last night we had a wonderful dining experience at Cafe Calabria II, located on Western Avenue about 1 mile west of the I-87 interchange. The server was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was superb. We started with the Duck Pate special and the Poached Clams. Both dishes were outstanding. G/F had the Oriechiette with Rapini and crumbled Sausage and I had the fabulous Chicken Francaise. We finished by sharing the Lemon Cake and the Chocolate Cake. This was a fantastic dinner from beginning to end. We will definitely be returning!

Keeping cafe Calabria a solid 4 stars- love the vibe, feel, great service. The Grecco salad (shared) is fantastic. The fried calamari are always good, definitely could use more sauce for dipping. Tonight we both went with chicken fishes which fell a bit short on flavor. I had the chicken Francese - the pasta was undercooked and the chicken and sauce really lacked flavor and seasoning. He had the chicken saltimbocca which he enjoyed a bit more than mine but next time I would avoid the chicken and probably go back to a seafood entree. Kicker - and in no way a reflection on the restaurant- was when we were finishing an older man was seated near us with what must have been an adult escort, literally falling out of what could only be described as a negligee and drowning in perfume. The clothing and inappropriateness aside, if I wasn't nearly done I would've had to ask to move because I can't tolerate perfume and it must have impacted everyone in that room. I'm sure the other patrons and staff have a lot to talk about! Cafe Calabria is lovely.

We chose this place for a Saturday evening meal in Albany due to its close proximity to I-90, fact that they take reservations and the great Yelp reviews. The atmosphere here is very nice with beautiful illuminated arches and tables that are nicely spaced. We enjoyed the Pinot Noir by the glass and the complementary bread with herbs and oil. All seemed nice. Things started to seem weird when our server told us twice that someone would bring us water and no water materialized. Before we ordered our meals i reminded her we needed water and finally she brought glasses and a small amount in a carafe. Apparently that was all the water we were going to get because she never brought any more even when my glass was empty. For the entree I got the eggplant parm and it was a pretty solid three stars. The sauce was nice and the portion generous but the eggplant was a bit soggy and could have been hotter. Others in our group seemed happier with the lasagna and the seafood pastas. I'd give this place another try because the atmosphere is nice and the location is convenient but would not order the eggplant parm again. Also, they really need to work on their water service! Gender neutral restroom but just one single bathroom for the whole restaurant.

To Carli at the very overrated Cafe Capriccio who ACTUALLY replied to reviews DARING ex customers to find better dining-- to you and your brain washed cult, Cafe Calabria has FAR better food, ambiance and customer service. I have been 3 times and cant wait to get back. Right now my favorite dishes are the Lobster Ravioli and the Eggplant Rollatini appetizer. The Eggplant is actually a meal in itself. My husband is a steak guy and loves ribeye for just $45. Most of the entrees average about 30 which is completely worth it. Especially since the customer service is so friendly and sober. So back to CARLI, I definitely found a better place to dine.

I've been a customer for many years, and it's because of the consistent high quality of the food and lovely family that runs the restaurant. Everything from their bread to salad dressing is incredibly fresh and homemade. I'm also obsessed with their red sauce, which is some of the best in the Capital Region, in my opinion. I rarely deviate from the Chicken Parm, which is a classic they do right. It also two large pieces of chicken, so you'll likely get several meals out of it. Their side of pasta is also a great sized portion. If you like cheesecake, definitely order the Pineapple Cheesecake - it's homemade and unbelievable! Also, since they've reopened as Cafe Calabria II, they've added a large bar and drink menu, which features specialty cocktails in addition to their wine selection. If you haven't been, make reservations and get your stretchy pants ready!

This restaurant is near where I work and one of the places where you have eaten a long time ago but you keep procrastinating to go back. The restaurant is a cute home with an entrance located on the side of the main street. With the management changing in 2023, it was a good enough reason to go visit them again. The portions are good, food is made with love served by a group which seems like a family. I visited the place Saturday after Black Friday, just before they were ready to close so didn't get to talk to them much. From what I remember from a long while back, I had tried a sandwich for lunch, which was made with one the best bread I had eaten. Despite me not being able to order a sandwich, the bread that was served tasted great, few of the vegetarians were able to just enjoy the bread. We tried 2 appetizers, eggplant rollitini and bruschetta. The appetizers were large portions with great flavors. the main meals chicken Parm and Shrimp Angelina. We ate well, and still had some leftovers. I enjoyed the leftovers more, adding some spices, chilli and chili flakes. Overall great food and probably will make the top 5 Italian restaurants in Capital region.

This was from a big pick up at my work so I cannot contest to the service or ambiance of the place. I ordered the Catania from their lunch menu. It was not the nicest packed sandwich ever and was kinda falling everywhere when I opened it but again they had to make about 10 sandwiches so I give grace. This was not the best tuna I've ever had it was just okay. The bread though is FANTASTIC. I would definitely grab a sandwich here just for that because of how good. A sandwich comes with a side of pasta salad. That was just okay, it's just tasted like cold garlic and buttered pasta. From other reviews I think I need to go and try dinner. Definitely give this a try for lunch if you are looking for a place in the area.

Amazing warm bread and pesto in olive oil.

This Italian restaurant is a charming woman-owned gem located on Western Avenue in Guilderland. We booked reservations for a recent Friday night. While it was still early when we arrived, the restaurant quickly began to fill up. It turned out that making reservations was a good idea. We came because my husband wanted an Italian meal. His family is from Calabria, Italy. I knew we were in for a treat as soon as a server brought us fresh warm bread a along with a plate of pesto and olive oil for dipping. Yes, know how people's mothers always tell them not to stuff themselves with bread when they go out to eat. I tried to resist but I ate a few slices because it was just so delicious. We ordered a Clams Casino appetizer to share. It was just amazing. So much flavor in every bite. It probably worked out that I ate the bread because it took about 40 minutes to prepare our entrees. I had the Chicken Marsala which came with pasta. It went well with the Prosecco that my husband ordered. He had the Veal Parmesan. We thought the meals were terrific. The portions were generous. So we wound up taking some home. We had them for lunch the next day. The restaurant is a stand alone building with a pretty yellow interior. The decor is tasteful. There's plenty of seating. The owner, Sandra, was behind the bar. Her mother, Rosanna, was one of our wonderful servers. She was very welcoming. The fascinating story behind the restaurant is explained on the back page of the menu. Cafe Calabria II opened last year. So glad we came for dinner. This was our first visit. We look forward to coming back. Rosanna said they're also open for lunch and serve great sandwiches. I'll have to try them sometime.

    Chicken parmigiana

Food was incredible, large portions and tasty. Meatballs antipasta tasted great but was small. Paparadelle bolognese was incredible, fresh and flavorful. Chicken parmigiana was delicious. Ambiance was good, they had a live music player that was awesome. Service was pretty bad. Serve said they were busy. No one came to take our order until we stopped a server, and we didn't get entrees until after about 75 minutes. They gave us free desert to make up for it though, so I won't knock it stars.

I was promised that Grappa 72 would exceed my expectations. As an Italian-American AND a foodie, it's hard to wow me at an Italian venue. I can honestly say that this place was all that I was promised and more. What we ordered to share: crispy arancini (special app that day), eggplant parm, fried calamari. I am a red sauce snob, and all three of these delivered on presentation, quality, and overall flavor. Entrees we ordered included: halibut (entree special and my choice), pappardelle loaded with shrimp and chicken (also a special), pork osso bucco (stole the show!). We ended with individual desserts, and their Italian cheesecake was smooth and creamy. Service was reflective of high-end dining, yet the check for six people was moderate to affordable. Considering the quality, quantity, and overall experience, this is a place I need to get back to. Now I need to find an excuse to be in the Capitol Region so I can go back!

While the dish tasted a bit too oily for my liking, there was LOTS of food that came with this dish - enough for me to pack as a lunch the next day! What was also memorable about this experience was the live music playing at front. This is a very nice Italian resto for special occasions and date nights.

I'm not sure if there is a separate entrance but my wife was on crutches and she managed to get up the first three into the restaurant from outside but I don't think dining on the main floor would have been an option for us. Our server, Mike, was awesome and full of energy and enthusiasm. He offered suggestions and answered questions about details of the dishes. We were pleasantly surprised with how many menu items were marked v - vegan and v* - can be prepared vegan. This is great for us because it's another place in Albany that we will be able to go out to dinner with friends and everyone will be able.to find something to enjoy. The fried Artichokes are a must if you're looking for a starter. We were eyeing up the Fennel salad or vegan Caesar salad but opted to move on to main entrees. On this night they were out of the Gnocchi Cacio-Pepe which personally, I am not a gnocchi fan to start and Mike told us they were substituting a buccatini pasta instead... this had my attention! I went for his suggestion and chose the Arrabbiata instead which was delicious. My wife enjoyed her Wild Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto. We skipped dessert for this evening but there were vegan Gelato and cookie options for dessert as well. From start to finish it was such an enjoyable experience in this cozy corner restaurant which offers outdoor dining in the summer in the heart of Albany. I had the Corpse Reviver and a glass of wine, both were great. We started with the shrimp balls, which sounded intriguing. They ended up being delightful, almost like loose crab cakes. The flavors were great and I loved the pesto. For my entree, I opted for the lemon mushroom tagliatelle. The pasta was very fresh and chewy, loved that. I enjoyed the combination of lemon and mushroom on the dish, but there were so many different mushrooms of all different textures, that some bites were more enjoyable than others. The snapper puttanesca was gorgeous as well. Overall it was a good meal, but I might have liked it a little more before the change. Definitely a great option if you are looking for dietary restrictions.

We went to Delmonico's Italian Steakhouse last weekend with a party of 10. Our group meets up once a month and tries a new place each time. I had been here once before over the summer and had a great experience then. That time we were seated in one of the alcove style rooms. It is not fully private but it definitely feels like your own space, and it added a lot to the atmosphere. The food and service were excellent on that visit, and the birthday person in our group loved the theming of the room. This time we were supposed to be seated in the Sinatra room. After our reservation time passed, the hostess came over and explained they had made a mistake with the room booking and it was not available. They moved us to a large table in the main dining area and offered us four appetizers on the house to make up for it. That immediately smoothed things over, and no one in our group had any issues after that. Mistakes happen, it is how a place handles them that matters, and they handled this very well. The main dining area has a nice ambience, but it is a bit noisy compared to the alcove spaces. Food wise, we had a wide range, steaks, chicken, veal, and some gluten free options. Most of the group had alcoholic drinks, while a few of us stuck with soda and water. One friend said the cola he got at the bar while we waited was flat and he skipped it after that. I tried a soda at the table and mine was fine. He later had a lemon lime soda, not sure if it was 7Up or Starry, and had no complaints, so it is possible they changed out the CO2 in between. Service really stood out. It is not easy to manage a table of 10, but our waitress was outstanding and very friendly. We were served in a timely manner, and several people commented on both the portion sizes and the quality of the meals. A few in our group even said they felt the pricing was a bargain for what you get. Overall, we will definitely be back. Scheduling errors and things out of the staff's control happen anywhere, but many places either do not apologize or do nothing to fix it. Here, they did both, and their solution was more than generous. Kudos to them. 4 stars.

We were seated in the back of the main room which was cold (the A/C was cranking due to the heatwave outside), loud (from people, not music). The side room was lit more invitingly and I think I would want to be there. I heard Frank Sinatra on the radio when we walked in, but within 30 minutes the place was packed and it turned into a raucous environment. We started off with garden salads with their homemade tomato basil dressing. It sounded fantastic but I quickly discovered it was loaded... absolutely loaded... with red onions. My wife bravely ate hers and the pile of onions kept growing on the side of her plate. I couldn't eat mine because of them so they took it away. They offered to remake it sans onions but I decided to hold out for my entree. My wife thought it was overdressed, but for a chopped salad such as it was I think it was fine. My veal Marsala was excellent. Every restaurant does theirs differently and here it wasn't too sweet or too garlicky. The bread on the table was crustier than an old pirate which made it difficult to eat with the table oil dip provided. However, it was perfect for sopping up the veal's sauce. My wife had Chicken Sorrento and the portion was absolutely humungous with a slick cheese shield on the top. She felt bad that my portion of veal was much smaller in comparison, but I had the last laugh as I thought her dish was just average. It all came down to the red sauce: every place tastes different and here it tasted a bit more like stewed tomatoes. (FYI: no place makes it as good as my grandmother). I am glad I ordered a non-red sauce dish, though my side of penne with only light sauce (per my request) was decent. Their dessert menu was nice but uninspiring. That's okay, as we were mostly full. Prices were fair for a white table cloth Italian restaurant, though not inexpensive. That being said, I much prefer the place in Loudonville which has more interesting entrees and comparable prices.
