My husband and I made reservations to go to Grappino. We got there and were seated immediately; there were only a few other tables filled. We stopped by for happy hour. They have a nice selection of wine/beer & cocktails at good prices. We ordered a few appetizers (listed here from best to liked the least). Tortellini marinara, Arancini, potato & porcini croquettes, zucchini blossoms. All dishes were excellent except the zucchini blossoms. This place is so overpriced,and over-rated ! The pizza was good,however, at nineteen dollars ,so overpriced. We had the cacio e pepe pasta as well. The menu states that the portion serves two-three . Two to three gerbils perhaps....certainly not people. Also priced at nineteen dollars.In addition to being a minuscule portion,it did not even taste like this trademark dish which I have had numerous times in Roma.It tasted more like aglio-olio.I grew up in New York,and now live in LA. This is been on my bookmark list for a year. Tonight we finally made it out and it was such an incredible meal. We started with an assortment of cheeses which were all excellent. Then we split a few salads (the Greek salad was exceptionally good). For dinner I had the seafood pot which was outstanding. My wife had the filet mignon. Despite being Served below her requested temperature it was still a great dish. Our friends ordered two pasta dishes which both looked excellent. For dessert we shared 2 orders of profiterole's and loved them. My Grapo Mojito was just fair but I did like their cocktail list And everyone else seemed to enjoy their wines. Our sever was also very nice- a young Bulgarian girl. Can't remember her name. My one complaint with grappino Was that the hostess was very unfriendly. She was a much older lady who was not friendly at all. When we walked in the door she asked us "how can I help you?!" As if we had no business being there. Then, after we paid our bill she walked over to our table and told us we had to leave because they needed the table for another party. We were there for two hours so I understand the need to turn the table but there's a way to go about it. You don't just tell people they need to go as if we did something wrong. Instead you offer them a seat at the bar... you apologize and ask them if they don't mind leaving so they can use the table. I've literally never been asked to leave a restaurant in such a cold manner. It left such a bad taste in my mouth which is a shame because the meal was soooo good. Anyways I won't let that hostess ruin the incredible meal we had. Grappino had a great atmosphere and a really cool menu. They deserve 5 stars. I only wish they hired a proper hostess who knows how to talk to people because whoever is working there now is definitely not a good choice. read more

Met a friend here on a Thursday and was so impressed that I brought my husband and four friends back the following Saturday. My husband says that he has been spoiled by my Italian cooking, particularly my gravy, and usually rates Italian restaurant fare as "Okay" in comparison. He uses Bolognese sauce as a test meter and boy was he happy! The idea of choosing a pasta separate from a sauce is unique and personal. Everyone ordered differently - we had the Bolognese on veal ravioli (a rare treat in a restaurant) while others had shrimp, pesto, etc and everyone raved. Pasta itself truly had the taste and texture of home made. Reminded me of my mothers kitchen draped with her drying noodles and when cooked were both chewy and firm. One who ordered a "simple" Greek salad raved about the freshness of the ingredients. And something most don't even think about is the plating which when the dishes were presented created a gourmand delight. As if all that wasn't enough, our waiter Shane was outstanding! During these times of Covid 19, we are opting for takeout and Grappino offers a wonderful weekly 3 course take-out or eat in dinner for two. The dinner we had was" Taste of the Adriatic Sea". The first course was a refreshing arugula , roasted red pepper and goat cheese salad which was a very good start followed by Cacciucco Tuscan Seafood Stew with octopus, shrimp, calamari, snapper, clams and monkfish and was delicious. The Torta Della Nonni lemon pastry cream tart tasted like it was imported from Italy and was wonderful. We called ahead and were able to pay by phone so when we got there, we parked in back and the order was ready to go. The cost was $79 . It was a lovely dinner and would not hesitate to try another special. read more

Okay real easy. Grappino has serious potential. I thought the food and wine was very good. Let me explain the poor review. We tried a lot of food. I brought my visiting daughter here for dinner, my first visit. Sat out back at 4 person bar facing inside the main dining area. Chris was our bartender. He is from Miami, third day on the job. He was great. From jump street he greeted us, told us he has only been there 3 days but not new to the service industry, he said I am sure I'll make mistakes because I am just learning the menu, so please be patient and we will work through this together...which I thought was super professional of him, and he delivered top notch service start to finish, even through some tough and awkward moments. We sat as I said at the bar, we shared the bar with a nice couple from Ohio, couldn't have been nicer. We had just had a conversation about midwesterners and how polite they are. I am in the service industry and said it's real easy, if you offend a person from the Midwest, usually you will never know, you will simply never see them again and they will never be back. Indulge me for a second: An order was put in incorrectly by our bartender for a couple of women sitting across from us. When Chris picked up the wrong order, he also picked up the other ladies Risotto. When he went to bring the plates back he was questioned by Barry I believe his name was the "General Manager". Well , to say that Barry was a little less than impressed would be an understatement. He not only embarrassed Chris the bartender, he completely embarrassed himself. But not just once. He basically chastised this kid for not knowing he could just warm a plate of risotto it would have to be re fired. So he didn't screw up one meal, he screwed up both. The General Manager is 100% correct, however, he ripped into this guy in front of everyone, and couldn't stop. It was uncomfortable at best. I had to heckle the GM to lighten up to get him to stop harassing the kid. Chris couldn't get out from behind the bar because it was so busy so he offered the un touched dishes to the 4 of us. We all said no thank you to him but after the GM ripped at him for five minutes we all said ok we will try them. One was a Mushroom Risotto it was excellent. The other a braided beef dish, outstanding and the presentation in a a nice staub cast iron pot was awesome. We all loved it. We got a charcuterie board and cheeses that were outstanding. Really all the food was outstanding. Pleasantly surprised by the food. Let's get back to Barry, he is so rude and so up this bartenders ass, it gets uncomfortable to all 4 of us. The gentleman from Ohio next to us chuckled and said, " this is exactly how you get a Midwesterner to never return" He wouldn't let up. He harassed this bartender and the rest of his staff behind the bar relentlessly. At one point he dismissed everyone from the bar areas so he could dry glasses. The entire time he would rip employees, he never once established eye contact with any of us. With the exception to explain to the nice couple next to us that the reason their pizza was stone cold is because after you take the pizza out of the 572 oven heat dissipates. Combine that with the wind tonight and it's impossible to serve a warm pizza. I thought the couple was going to burst out laughing. The only reply they had was..." You can't be serious?" Beatings will continue until moral improves is basically the management style by the manager at Grappino. How the bartender Chris kept his cool after being ripped apart shows great control. The food was great, but the experience was awful. I truly believe the place could be great, the food is there. You need a leader at the front of the house. This guy Barry should be at Denny's. read more
