If you can only have one meal on Vashon have it at Gravy. If you can only eat one thing at Gravy chose the Trifecta Burger. Awesome food, awesome people and awesome space. We were on Vashon for the weekend and wanted to visit Gravy. Paid them a visit while waiting for a table and loved the space and people. We went for the Sunday BBQ and it was incredibly good. The combination of flavors and intent that goes into the prep is noticeable. We had the combo bbq and trifecta burger to share. That burger will go on the one of the best ever list. Holy guacamole this place is good! I'm from Texas where entire restaurant are built around fried chicken and the fried chicken here is heavenly. I swear it might have been the best fried chicken I have ever had! Don't tell my mom but it was as good as her and my grandmother's fried chicken! I can't wait to go back and try more things. If they make a brisket that melts in your mouth I will be forever grateful! This place is travel show and magazine worthy! Dined there last night and will not repeat that error. In a nut shell, paid $23 for a dish called "prawn peppardelle". It was served by a pleasant kid who must have been related to the owners. The dish contained a total of 4 small shrimp ( adventurously called prawns) in a pasta and spinach dish) It was bland , boring and way overpriced. We also paid $30 for the catch of the day which was salmon. The salmon was about 6 oz.. It was served with collection of soupy items that were cucumber, a green and miniature potatoes. The salmon was served, skin on, and while not uncommon at say Red Lobster was not expected at a more upscale place. The salmon was tasteless as was the entire dish. The marginal fare could have been more palatable if the employees of this establishment were not so aloof and stiff. The place seats maybe 30 people. The owner passed by repeatedly and neither spoke or looked at us. Same was true for EVERY staff member in the building with the exception of the server. Avoid this place ! I'm giving it one star for the cold and delishious water served at every table in a thick glass bottle , which will be all we will remember about this klunker. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday dinner at Gravy. The food is both familiar and inventive. Everything we tasted was a delightful surprise. Hands down the best burger of my life; Chef Dre spent two years finessing the recipe, according to Pepa, his wife and masterful host. It is worth repeating - several times. The salads are works of art made from the freshest seasonal and local ingredients, with just the right dose of oil and vinegar. The grilled cornbread... a must. The chocolate terrine and pecan pie... We had two desserts because we were really curious, and they were highlights as well! My wife and I have eaten at a Gravy a number of times. We choose to sit at the counter so we can see the kitchen. Fun to have a little banter with Pepa, one of the owners. The menu is not super extensive, but it seems like there are lots of options. Tonight we had grilled shishito peppers, crab cakes, shrimp carbonara pasta, and house salad. Topped that off with a piece of strawberry olive oil cake. Each was great and all together a really nice meal. read more

This is my third visit to this new island spot specializing in Southern cuisine with style. We had dinner last night with friends from Mass. We started with a nice cheese plate served with rustic bread toasted over the charcoal flame, and a grilled wedge of southern style skillet cornbread topped with a dollop of honey butter. My partner completely enjoyed her grilled mediterrenean sea bass, while I had the perfectly fried chicken served on a herb infused potato salad. The salad was especially tasty, without the overwhelming mayonnaise notes I'm usually expect. One of our guests had the burger made of a three meat blend which sounded interesting. He later mention that he will try it again, but with sauce on the side to try to bring out the nuances of the blend. The wine selection is perfect and reasonably priced. An excellent evening! Best ribs! It was A.m.a.z.i.n.g.!! Pepa was a great hostess, the atmosphere was inviting and again the food was , literally finger licking good. One of my table mates had the burger, orders it every time she goes there. Then there was the fried oyster sandwich, many people come here specifically for this delicious feast. And then I can't leave out the BBQ chicken sandwich which had absolutely no complaints. BBQ night is only on Sunday. Make sure you plan ahead and bring a healthy appetite.! read more

Food was good, like the farm to table concept. Where I felt they were lacking was in their beverage selection. Having a soda on the menu seems like a regular staple...and on the day I went in, I was craving a coke. I was told they don't serve those sodas and had different seltzers. Hands down the best food on Vashon (if you aren't craving Thai, in which case you cannot get better than May Thai). Gravy is inspired, refined and fun. The flavors are decadently blended...ghost pepper and sour cherry sauce, creamy tarragon salad dressing in just the perfect amount, infused whipped creams!!! The proprietors are as fabulous as the food, front and center of this small, charming open kitchen spot. Worth the trip to Vashon! What a treat! Our group of 5 arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday. With each item ordered, we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. We asked our server about the food and we were told that there was only one Trifecta Burger left in the kitchen before the next batch was being made up, and that someone at our table should be sure to order that. Wow, were they ever right. It was the best burger we've ever had. The Pappardelle was great, the green beans perfect. This is a quaint restaurant that knows what they are doing when it comes to food. It's so painful to write this review because it looked so promising from the rest of the reviews! We were really disappointed by Gravy, because the pictures show ribs, barbecue, pasta salad, and smoked sausage. We were really looking forward to barbecue and comfort food as the suggestion says, but when we sat down and looked at the menu, there was not a rib in sight. We sat there for several minutes wondering if we'd come to the wrong place. I even looked up their facebook while we were seated, and saw nothing but barbecue ribs and wings, corn on the cob, and potatoes. Yet there wasn't a hint anywhere as to whether this was their lunch-only fare, or if there were any specials, and nothing on the menu. Instead there was a pricier menu of upscale but traditional seafood and meat dishes. I'm sure the food is delicious, but we were so confused and disappointed. We felt terrible about bailing and going down the street instead--something we NEVER do--but we were really confused by the experience. It would be helpful if there had been a menu listed here on Yelp or on Facebook, and more prominent showcase of what their everyday fare is--because it's not barbecue! :/ read more

As locals and food lovers, we are so excited to have a restaurant like Gravy on Vashon Island. We have been several times now and have never been disappointed. Today was our first time making it to BBQ Sundays and we loved it! I had the "Trifecta Burger"- a mix of ground sirloin, ham hock, and duck. It was SO delicious and served with a perfect fresh and lightly dressed salad, which offset the richness of the burger so nicely. My husband had the homemade sausage platter- so spicy and good! Served with sautéed greens, their amazing cornbread and a MACARONI AND CHEESE MUFFIN. Yep, it was as awesome as it sounds. And somehow, we made room for dessert- a made to order marionberry cobbler ( to die for). Local Clif's beer on tap and great service were just the icing on the cake. From previous visits, their "regular", non-Sunday menu is JUST as good- unique, well-prepared food that just tastes great. We hope to be regulars here! read more

Wonderful, wonderful first (& not last) meal at Gravy. We were there today for Sunday barbecue and it was delicious. The combo platter offered enough ribs, pulled pork, spicy sausage and potato salad for two, and it was a stretch to finish the last rib. Each had unique and tasty spicing. We started with the Grilled Treviso with lardon & beets which was a new green for me and, also, incredibly delicious, beautiful and fresh, as was the asparagus which our friend had along with the burger. Wow! Fabulous dinner, lovely experience. Homemade cornbread with the honey butter is amazing. Partner thoroughly enjoyed his ribeye perfectly medium rare with the lobster butter, while I was in heaven with the Bucatini with wild mushrooms and mixed greens and a broth that was so delicious and comforting.
