Rustic, calm , open cafe style atmosphere. Back area seating for outdoor eating. Street parking. Hostess and servers were swift and friendly. Helpful in describing menu items. and making recommendations. I've heard of the "trifecta". Burger. Mixture of 1/3 of sirloin, duck breast and smoke ham hock! Nice, smoky and moist well done patty on grilled brioche bun with a house-made shallot sauce. I'd order again! Delicious. And definitely popular! My friend had the fried chicken. It was crispy skin and moist breast. However, thought the batter needed more seasoning and the skin tasted a little burnt or old oil! This is a nice restaurant for Vashon. We had never been to Vashon Island before and what a great find! My family and I were visiting from Missouri and were fortunate enough to walk in the door of Gravy. We were met with a warm, vivacious welcome and an explanation of the food and how everything is made in house. We all had varying taste and everyone was happy! I loved the squash salad with burrata, while my husband ordered the omelet and ate every bite. My brother had the BLT with house made bread and crispy bacon. He ate every bite of the huge sandwich. The tuna melt. with white albacore tuna, was the best my daughter had ever eaten. The fried chicken sandwich is huge and would be great for a split. Make sure to order the hummus plate. They serve with roasted chickpeas and wonderful herb filled olive oil. I would eat there again for the hummus alone. read more

Honestly went here and tried to get a time to eat and they were closed due to Covid and only open for certain times. The man that met us greeted us with chips and gave my girlfriend flowers and me chips and a bottle of wine, there is not doubt in my mind a restaurant ran like that will succeed. Wonderful service on their lovely garden patio. The roasted beet salad with walnut butter and orange slices was delicious. My entree was the Muscovy duck breast with a grilled radicchio on a herbed polenta! Hubby had the fettuccine carbonara with large shrimp! I have now found my favorite dishes! When we are walking in town on the weekends there is usually a lovely smell coming out that attracts us--last time it was the pumpkin spice chicken wings. We came in on a Friday evening and the place was about halfway full. However, not long into our meal there was a line out the door. Our waitress was really lovely and the food was great. I had the fried chicken with melon salad and loved every bite. My only complaint is we had a group of five and instead of pushing a four seat table and a two seat table together, they stuck a fifth chair awkwardly at the end of a four seat table. There were tables empty when we arrived that would have made creating a six seat table possible, but instead the person in the fifth seat had to awkwardly sit at the table with little room to eat their meal. read more

We were welcomed pleasantly and seated right away. I think our server was new so I'm overlooking his awkwardness. He was pleasant and polite enough. Myself and my wife ordered the Wagyu sirloin which comes with an egg, my wife doesn't like eggs easy and asked for it cooked hard, she was told 'no' cannot do that. The chef won't allow it. I mean, come on! This is not a Michelin star restaurant and nor will it ever be, far from it. If your paying customer wants their egg cooked hard, cook it hard ffs! We insisted that the server at least ask for it to be cooked a little longer so that it's not too runny. The server apparently asked and it was rejected. The sirloin came with no egg. Now the irony here is that my sirloin which did have an egg the way the chef wanted me to have it, was hard! I couldn't believe it. What was all the fuss about. Clearly can't cook an egg to perfection anyway SMH! The sirloin was actually not that good either. It was cooked as I'd asked for 'medium-rare' but was tough and bland. Not terrible, but nothing remarkable. Considering the price, I expected better. We also had: Baby carrots appetizer = just ok, nice presentation, somewhat bland Salmon Pate appetizer = good but salty (best item we had) Wagyu Sirloin = just ok, tough meet and lacking flavor, polenta fries were nice, mushrooms were ok - way overpriced Salmon special = good but bland and overpriced 2 apps, 3 lack luster entrees, 1 beer, 2 glasses of wine and a surly attitude = $195 read more

Gravy is such a wonderful little gem of a restaurant! Although they're newer to Vashon, I feel it is just what the island needed. Everything from the food to the service was superb. The wedge salad had a bright flavor combo with tarragon dressing and golden beets, the green beans with tahini was smokey and delicious, trifecta burger was as epic as it sounds, and the pasta was perfectly al dente! Not to mention the atmosphere was great for a date night; we were delighted by the open kitchen setting and the patio lights lining the ceiling. This location is sort of cursed. Several restaurants have tried and failed in this spot(2 of them by the same owner). But I think Gravy is here to stay. They have an eclectic menu with good, fresh ingredients. And they have a few special menus. Fridays is wing night with different specialty wings available. Sunday is BBQ with food cooked on the mighty Traeger grill out back. The food is really good and the atmosphere is cheery and homey. They're using a lot of local Vashon product which is great for Vashon and awesome for your taste buds. The only issue I have is that, like most places on Vashon, the service tends toward Island Time. For the Sunday bbq menu with foods that had mostly been pre-cooked it took forever to get our food, the same for our drinks. But the chef brought out the food to apologize for the wait and, I think with the drinks, there was some confusion because our waiter was under 21 and couldn't pour the beer. The pulled pork and ribs were good. The Olive Oil cake, which I always order at restaurants only to be disappointed, was creamy and delicious. It's a great addition to Vashon and they're working hard to make the menu interesting for both locals and tourists which is a hard trick on an Island where locals want solid, fresh food and tourists might want something flashier. read more

We came with a large party with high Hope's and were sadly disappointed. One of our party ordered the avocado salad and it was literally half an avocado with a small peice of smoked salmon. He had to order a second meal. I ordered the vegetarian burger, very dry and lacking flavor. My husband ordered the fried chicken which was the best of the pick, but very dry and salty with a side of dry salty chips. We were there for BBQ night. When the food arrived I was immediately transported to Austin Texas. This was every bit as good as one of those places you drive WAY out of your way for in Texas, hoping and praying they don't run out before you get there. The cornbread and greens were spot on. I didn't read up on this place, we just walked in because we're moving back to the island and want to try all the new spots, but I'm guessing someone involved with this place has to be from Texas. I'm thinking hard right now to come up with BBQ on the west coast that's at least as good, and all I can think of is Pinnacle Peak outside Phoenix. I cannot express enough how amazing this place was. The flavor in every dish we had was superb! I had the pasta dish and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. They had the muscles on special and they tasted perfection. My husband had the pork chop and it was so tender and the sauce they used on top was so amazing tasting. The service was also on point. I got the only vegetarian entree-- carrot minti-- like a Turkish ravioli filled with roasted carrots with an olive oil and yogurt zataar sauce and topped with a salad of arugula. The food was delicious, and despite the small space the server was very kind and attentive. The menu reminded us of elevated comfort food and included a chalkboard of specials. Cool decor, our waiter was friendly, and the local beer offered was tasty. Very limited alcohol selection, over priced, and my food was just absolutely terrible. I ordered the seafood risotto and it was just terribly bland. The risotto wasn't cooked thoroughly, and it was $30. I went and visited this this over the Memorial Day holiday. I was excited to see a business on this island called "Gravy" I won't lie. I attempted to walk into this establishment about 10 mins before they "officially" opened, the door was wide open mind you and what seemed like a great haired angry older woman shushed me out and told me that they don't open until 4pm!!! Ok, yikes. The food was a bit overpriced for my liking. The wait staff was very helpful and nice and the beverages were good! I also witnessed what looked like an owner or head of staff "older lady again" scold a waitress for not having a table cleaned up fast enough. This woman was clearly not having a good day and was completely rude. I felt bad for the waitress, nobody should have to go through that! Bottom line skip this joint and try something else down the street. read more

I very rarely write Yelp reviews, but felt compelled to after our experience at Gravy today. We traveled from Seattle for a Father's Day trip to Vashon, and I was the person who selected Gravy (with my fingers crossed, as I really wanted my father-in-law to have a good day.) We all loved, LOVED the food. Crab cakes? Delicious. The Burger?!? My husband and I are already planning another trip out so we can have another one. The beet salad was also superb. Enjoyed a lick-the-plate level dinner here. Chef Dre stayed vigilant in the open kitchen throughout our visit ensuring every plate went out at top standard and serving some himself. The "snack" of flatbread with creme fraiche, foraged greens, and edible flowers stood out as one of a kind. Terrific asparagus salad and a pasta main also delivered terrific flavor that impressed with its freshness. And the burger...well, it's a thing. Chef nailed a meaty combination that oozes umami. 'Good for Vashon' is the way people describe the offerings there when they are not good, but they're too afraid to be critical where criticism is deserved. Like when you tell your auntie that her creamed corn oyster casserole is delicious, because you don't want to hurt her feelings. Gravy fail to be even 'good for Vashon.' Tired of the DIY decor that can be found at every lame hipster place now and stop serving me water in used whiskey bottles. You can't get those clean. Don't bring me water in them. The menu is a weird cacophony of foods that should never be put in the same dish together. Octopus, chick peas and kale with a cloying, dark mystery sauce. No, just no. So I got a burger which came to me under-cooked and served on an ice cold bun. It's just not good. And anyone who says otherwise has not met good food. read more

Just finished the most amazing meal at this gem of a restaurant. Started with a crisp cider and hubby got a local IPA that he enjoyed so much he had a second! And he is an IPA snob so that is saying something. I had the steak frites and he had the trifecta burger. Both were amazing. At VI for a wedding and also our first visit to the island. Dropped into Gravy w/o reservation on an August Friday night. We couldn't have been more warmly welcomed by the hostess. They arranged a table in about 15 min and got us a drink while waiting. The smells were amazing only to be outdone by the flavors of our meals. I had albacore tuna special and my wife the fresh coho. I am not a big fish eater but do like tuna when done properly. I was not disappointed. My wife dish was superb. The server was very attentive and her timing was great. We had a very tasty and relaxing evening. The prices for Vashon are reasonable. For such fine food, I would have expected higher (not that I would advocate an increase).
