The flavors are SUPER on point. The sausage pizza was delicious (just expect a thin crust). The lack of bread in the crust actually helped the flavors and textures so much! Half of the burger was a too underdone for medium rare, but once again, great flavors. The fries were seasoned WONDERFULLY. The tomato bisque is my FAVORITE in town. It came out lukewarm, but they quickly replaced it and took it off our bill. The banana pudding for dessert was the best I've ever had. Amazingly well done. Taking a chance by only seeing a table of food through the window was luck on our part. I was charmed by the interior, impressed by the knowledge of our server, and his suggestions were spot on! You must try the fried pimento cheese balls! It is at the top, if not the very top, of my list of favorite foods ever tried. I love Gray's on Main! We were able to walk in and find seating upstairs at the bar right away! The second floor bar has a great atmosphere. (I especially love how the second floor windows overlook the main downtown area.) Our bartender recommended a ginger syrup for my Moscow mule (which was delicious!) and also explained the process of making butter-washed rum in-house, for one of their signature drinks. Nothing against the service but the restaurant is not the best to bring a baby' not very accommodating. I thought it was just a bad day been back another couple of times officially given up. Disappointing. Food just wasn't that great. Felt like they are just going through the motions and don't really care. My shrimp and crab gumbo had no crab in it and the shrimp were tiny. Not worth $29. Appetizers were just ok and Caesar salad was equally unimpressive. We weren't ordering alcohol so it seemed the waiter focused on other tables who would have a bigger bill and a bigger tip. Met a girlfriend here for drinks to catch up on a Friday night. We had a reservation and were taken to a table promptly. I'd never been to GRAY'S On Main before, but I'll certainly be back for drinks. The food looked good, but we didn't order any entrees or appetizers. I ordered two drinks, both on the sweeter side. First I had the apple jack, which was a bit smaller than I'd have liked but it was delicious. It was made with Lairds applejack and other ingredients and was very refreshing. My second drink was the popinjay, which you can order with either gin or vodka. I went with pickers vodka and it was amazing. I'm including a picture of the ingredients because the server did a much better job describing the ingredients, but the bitters/syrup made both drinks, as they are both homemade! The bathrooms were small, but clean. I'm a fan of the history behind this old pharmacy, and if you're visiting Franklin you really should stop here! The bar is upstairs, so if you're in a rush this may not be the place for you. It took time to receive our drinks, but we were catching up so that didn't bother us. read more

Walking around downtown Franklin, I wasn't sure about this place because I saw other places nearby with better reviews - but I'm really glad we stopped here for lunch. The space is a converted Pharmacy, really cute, with some of the walls wallpapered with old prescriptions. They had just rolled out a new menu a few days beforehand. I had the zuchinni and squash arugula salad. It was great! We also tried the banana pudding and dark chocolate brownie - both were great depending on whether you wanted to top your meal off with something light or rich. As of 5/16 the new menu does not look as though it has been updated on yelp, so it's a bit different in the restaurant, I uploaded a photo of the new menu. read more

I had to wave a host down to get salt and pepper. I had finished eating before he refilled my drink. I didn't actually need the salt as it turns out because my chicken salad was way too salty anyway. Came here for lunch during my first visit in downtown Franklin and I'm a fan. Food was great! Food: We ordered from their "winter" menu and it was delicious! The salmon dish I ordered was prepared so well! My husband ordered the pear pizza and he enjoyed it as well. My mom had the burger and she said it was delicious! Service: The server we had was great! She asked whether we've been there before and when she found out that it was our first time, she took her time to explain the history of the restaurant. Atmosphere: The decoration of the restaurant is very rustic looking. I really enjoyed looking around. We sat in the front of the restaurant, but didn't get the chance to check out the back or the upstairs? I kept seeing people coming from the back. I figure that's where the bar is? I really wanted to love this place, but between our disinterested server and my lukewarm pizza, it would take a push to return. I visited a with two friends a few weeks ago on Sunday evening after Pilgrimage Festival. We stopped in an hour before close, double checked with the hostess that there would be no issue being served and were led to a table upstairs. The best thing we ordered was the bacon wrapped figs. They came out hot and were oh so yummy! I settled on the pizza, which came out barely warm and was rather bland overall. The server did take it back and reheat it for me which helped some.I was struggling to decide between pizza and the shaved squash and zucchini salad which my friend ended up ordering and thought was just ok. It wasn't until after we left that she realized they had left out the cous cous and mint. Oy vey! Maybe brunch is a better option. Lived in Franklin all my life... Hadn't been in Grays, since it was a drugstore... I was glad to see some old furnishings had been used in the restaurant decor (like old doors found in the basement and used as the back of seats)... My husband and I went for lunch... We ordered Bacon Wrapped Figs for an appetizer... I've had much better, and you only get 5 for $9 (pricey for the amount and quality)... Jeff got the Salmon Tartine with house-made bar-b-que chips... He loved it, but it was too "fishy" tasting for me... I got the Corn Hummus Tartine and a side salad w lemon dressing (bland)... I substituted a Fried over medium egg, in place of the Poached egg... I didn't want the yolk that runny, since it was served on bread... My entree was fair... The Hummus was delicious, and the fried chick peas on it added a different flair... We like Gray's but we don't always have a consistent experience. Sometimes we have great service, at other times the pretentiousness of the place seems to get in the way. Recently we went to hear some music and we were pleasantly surprised that the menu had been updated. BUT, this place is like a lot of music bars in Nashville. People talk over the music. They don't really respect the performers. When it opened, this was the "it" place. Gray's will need to continue to evolve to keep up with that rep. Good food that is a bit overpriced with wait staff that spend a lot of time on their "look" is what you'll find here. read more

DECEIVED. Although we are locals, this was our first time to Gray's. Upon entering, the host was wearing a mask, leading us to believe the restaurant was complying with the mandate as are every other restaurant around here we've visited in recent months (we eat out at least twice/week). It was only after we were seated that it began to dawn on us that none of the other staff were wearing masks. I've since read that the owner is placing politics above clientele. That's her prerogative but I think she should have something posted so consumers can make a more informed choice. And having only the host wear one seems utterly deceptive. Another commenter (?) suggested that those who don't like the no mask policy don't have to eat there. True enough, but it's not easy to walk out when you've been seated and are ready to order before it becomes clear that everyone but the host is without a mask. My polite upbringing made walking out at that point very difficult. On principle, we won't ever be back. My wife's burger was really good. My shrimp and grits were quite bland- I have made this dish my go-to in area restaurants so I know a good version when I taste it. The drinks were good and our server was very nice. I don't hold the owner's decisions against the staff. I can only conclude the owner is banking on her faithful clientele to carry her through this time, and that she doesn't care much about newer customers. That's sad to me. We won't be back. read more

Love this place. Truly I do. I live here so visit often. Music is OK. Wish they go some more bands. I always show up when there is a solo artist. First few times I went there were bands. I highly recommend the anthem spirits cocktail (I fought somebody for the recipe). Service is attentive and quick. My mom has a lot of food allergies and our server was extremely sensitive to that, which I appreciated! The atmosphere is amazing. The Farmers daughter lunch special is TO DIE FOR. Basically a win on all fronts The meh: hard to think of one, but don't be surprised if you end up spending $150 on lunch. It's easier thank you'd think. Also, I've had two experiences where I was unable to make a reservation due to no one picking up the phone, but I believe that's because they are constantly busy and possibly understaffed. In normal times, I would leave a much higher review. The ambiance is great. The building is lovely. The cocktails are lovely presentations and overall pretty good (though there are much better craft cocktails). The issue here is that the restaurant says it's practicing social distancing. Apparently, as of September, that had gone out the window. Not a single staff member was wearing a mask, and the tables are packed in upstairs as tight as they can get them, with zero marked off for social distance. If you are comfortable sitting shoulder to shoulder with someone, then go for it. But if you take COVID seriously, you will be more distracted by the anxiety of the situation to enjoy the rest of it. read more
