I'm giving it 2 stars because of the atmosphere. The place was an old pharmacy that was turned into a restaurant and still had some of the characteristics of the pharmacy. The atmosphere was lovely and the waitress really was great at sales. However, the food had something to be desired. We started with Fried Pimiento Balls with pepper jelly. The pepper jelly was the best part the fried cheese balls taste it they'll Vida with not much pimiento at all. But that was the best thing we have. I had a hot chicken sandwich, the chicken was dry, hot, and the bread was soggy even the fries had no flavor. My husband and a burger ( nothing special) you think in July you get a good tomato, but it was a hot house tomato and was very hard. He had the sweet potato hash which was good. I heard the guy next to me say his drink which was some kind of Prohibition style cocktail with gin and lime taste it "slimy". The upstairs bar is absolutely fabulous! Amazing service and cozy atmosphere. The bartenders are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and can recommend great drinks based on your individual flavor preferences. I told the bartender I wanted something sweater and refreshing and he made me the most fabulous cocktail. So this place was such an awesome surprise. For someone from DC, I wasn't expecting what I found when I got the small-town Franklin TN, and this gem of a restaurant. First let me say that this place is beautiful. I mean, BEAUTIFUL. It is clean, beautifully renovated with a very authentic feel to its original stature and if you are into that kind of thing...you're gonna want a tour of the whole place, including the special "members only" space in the upstairs loft. We came for a show, to see a popular band that doesn't tour often but was coming there. At first I was a little surprised that they were playing a "restaurant" but when we got there it was just like "oh heck yeah"...and as a music venue I was equally impressed by the sound and ambiance. NOW, on to the food and drink. We pretty much decided immediately upon seeing the menu that we were going to have to share everything we ordered because nobody wanted to decide on just one thing. We had the pimento cheese balls and bacon wrapped figs for apps, and they were both like "ohhhh my gahhhh" good! So we ordered another round of each. Then we order the Shrimp and Grits and the Rib Eye and split them. Now I am a beef connoisseur and my friend is from Louisiana. That rib eye was perfectly done to my med-rare request and I didn't even need a steak knife to cut it, and my friend said the shrimp and grits were just as good if not better than any she had had in NoLa. I would agree.... We had drinks, REALLY AMAZING drinks that I don't remember the name of, because the bartender Grayson, who was handsome and genteel, was given free reign to "impress us" and he absolutely did! Just go to the bar, tell them your fav liquor and let them go to town...trust me on this. Great atmosphere and service, and everything we've tried has been great. My only advice is to them and patrons is that the hot chicken..isn't. And, it's wings, which was unexpected.. In Nashville, just don't go there unless it's real, or everyone will be disappointed! The wings were tasty..but nothing like hot chicken. Everything else was very good..food and great cocktails. Update: tried their first brunch today..very good! And great service..biscuits with chocolate gravy were unique and delish. My parents went here a few years ago, so they were eager to take me there for the first time. Walking in, the atmosphere is really cool and seems like it would be a fun bar at night. We saw the menu and there were maybe ten options total during lunch, a few sandwiches and salads. After ordering drinks and an appetizer, we waited about 20 minutes before a man came over, who was not our server, and said "So did y'all want to get some food or no?" I got the turkey cranberry sandwich, which was disappointing. They have a seasonal menu, so I would like to come back in the spring and see if the options are any better. read more

Best staff and terrific food! We went with our two kids (ages 2.5 and 1.5). Usually they are great in restaurants but the 1.5 year old decided to melt down after we were seated. Amber, our waitress, literally could not have been sweeter. She worked is hard to hustle out snacks, milk, crayons, whatever we needed to make her happy. I ended up taking our daughter outside to the street because she was so loud, and Amber brought out my drink and a plate of grits (definitely recommend the grits - super delicious) for her to eat out there. The food here is phenomenal if you're looking for a place to splurge, as it's on the spendier side. The different levels allow you to choose your atmosphere so it's good for date night, family night, or catching up with old friends. Their live music on the second floor is excellent, but you have to pay to access that level which we weren't told upon entering. Server was very attentive. read more

Our lunch was delightful! We enjoyed the brief history of the building and the architecture that the hostess gave us on the way to our table and the vintage/ eclectic ambiance is unmatched! We shared the Brussel sprouts with pecans, burnt Orange and cranberries to start, the chefs special grilled chicken sandwich and my pal had the shrimp and cheese grits - all were excellent! Typically grilled chicken sandwiches don't exactly excite but this one is different - this one has homemade southern aoli, house made BBQ sauce which wasn't too sticky or too sweet, bacon and pickles which really just made me so happy! The cheesey grits were awesome- we dipped the house made chips that came with my sandwich in them - stupidly tasty! I had a cocktail made with molasses that I would also highly recommend! Note the restaurant is in a quaint downtown area with limited street parking - but there is a large FREE parking garage just across the street! read more

But was really bothered me was being charged $6 per person because they had live music when we were there. A group of 4 having appetizers, entrees, desert and two bottles of wine. Certainly we paid enough to cover the live music. Businesses need to realize that one lame move like this will undue anything positive they may have already done. We won't be back. read more

For starters, the vibe and the building were very cool. It's an old pharmacy and that historical fact is showcased throughout the entire restaurant without being cheesy. The food was good--but hands down, the Mexican street corn was the best. If you only get one thing on the menu, get the dang Mexican street corn. It's worth it. The reason this gets 3 stars, however, was the fact that we were pushed so hard to get drinks as soon as we sat down. It's like we weren't allowed to contemplate not getting drinks! It made my boyfriend and I both so disinterested, which was unfortunate because craft cocktails are usually something to look forward to. This is about the 5th time I've eaten here and the worst yet. Food was mediocre and flies were everywhere on the second floor. The shrimp and grits dish was awful. The grits were gummy and it was hard to find the shrimp they were so small. Tasted like they just heated up in the microwave. Grays on Main has a great location , nice atmosphere ,cool old building , good food .....the main reason I prob won't go back is due to the flippant and arrogant attitude of the servers and bar tenders . I am a local and have been there many times. This time was prob the worst yet .... we were waiting outside a bit before 11 for brunch when they opened . Very obviously customers waiting to be let in and employee saw us outside and just flipped the lock on the door to unlock it ...never opened the door to welcome us ...seemed to hope we would go away just overall attitude and delivery was not up to par for the potential of this place . This place tops my husband's list of all time favorite restaurants, so we always eat there when we're in Franklin (usually a couple times a year)! The atmosphere/vibe is the BEST! Located in quaint downtown Franklin (think Stars Hollow), it has all the warmth and coziness of a family run business, with the service/food quality of top chefs. The menu seems to rotate based on the season, with steak, poultry, and fish dominating the entrees. The appetizer list is delicious, with our favorite always being the bacon wrapped figs (I could eat a million!). Add a few yummy salads and rich desserts what else do you need in a menu? The service is always wonderful and the cocktail/wine list is extensive. We don't get there very often since we live in Texas, so all you Tennesseans, go! We wish we were you!! read more

I've never had green beans that measured up to my mama's or mamaw's until tonight! Delicious! I thought I made the best squash casserole in all the land, but I was wrong! The best is here at Grays. Maybe the weekend rush in downtown Franklin is a bit much, but lunch at Grays was fantastic. Here is one thing you must know. Grays is not your typical Nashville "meat and three" place. It's for foodies who enjoy trying new things and different flavors. From the moment I walked in, a woman greeted me, carried on a friendly conversation and the owner was introduced to me. She walked with me upstairs to meet my friend and made sure we were all set up. Our waitress seemed a bit overworked that day, but halfway through our meal she was perked up. I hope we made her feel a bit better. The food was delicious. My friend and I took advantage of the sharing meal and tried the gnocchi, shrimp and scallop dumplings and wedge salad. Everything was so good! The food was fun and interesting...down to the green tomato chutney that came with the dumplings. They make a good cup of coffee too! I highly recommend you pop in for lunch or to see a show in the evenings. I will be returning again. I'd also like to note Yelp has filtered a whopping 36 reviews for this place. Raving fans! My fiance and I ate here last night and I've been telling everyone at work today how great it was. Upon arrival, we were escorted upstairs. As we were being taken to our table the hostess was giving us a rundown of the building and it's history which was very neat! Once seated our server, Barry, came over and was extremely kind and very knowledgeable about the entire menu from cocktails to desserts! We went with all of his recommendations and were blown away. I got the Smoke and Mirrors cocktail to drink and my fiance who only drinks wine loved it too. You have to order the fried pimento cheese balls!!! We also order the brussels as an appetizer which were also delicious. Entrees; we got filet which was perfect and she got the short rib which was so flavorful and cooked to perfection that we didn't even use a knife on it. Grays is behaving in a defiant way towards protecting their patrons during the Covid situation. No bartenders, no waiters, no cooks wear masks or protection. The tables are stacked next to each other in the upstairs bar. When we asked to be positioned so there would be at least table separation, they refused to give us any assurances they would comply. Needless to say, we didn't feel cared for or protected. We went to Cork and Cow, they were incredibly considerate and took great measures to make sure we were safe and would have a wonderful experience as well. read more

Imagine finishing your dinner by eating banana pudding only to find a piece of rubber on your second bite! They credited the banana pudding off the check (which was a given), but I think they should have at least given me a 10% discount off of my dinner ($3.40). So sad, but Gray's On Main has fallen off a cliff. When it first opened, it was so great, but now...Meh. The staff seemed flustered and either under-staffed or under-trained. The food had problems. Some items were very good, but other items were WAY off the mark. I don't think I'll be making any special trips back. There are too many other restaurants near-by to gamble on Grays. It's a shame, because it used to be so good. One can only hope they will read their reviews and fix it, but until they do, it's just Meh. read more

We hadn't been to Grays in a year, and I'm sad to say it was better last year than this. The menu recently changed and the choices were minimal and somewhat "out there". No sandwich of any kind. Seriously only a few entree's to choose from. Our appetizer was burnt, and both of our app plates had crumbs on them. Also mashed potato on our table when we sat down. Tried this restaurant with a date. Reviews were good, so I figured it was a safe bet. I was wrong. Grays earns two points for the cocktail (although quite expensive) and the service. The food, which is most important, was extremely bland. We ordered a vegetarian pasta and chicken dinner. Besides a slight hint of garlic, the vegies tasted dry and there was absolutely no other flavor. Mind you, our bill was over $100 for two basic entrees, one average appetizer, and two drinks. How does this place stay in business - especially with such great restaurants around the corner? In any case, I won't be going back. read more
