Grazie Nonna is a small, busy, and loud DC restaurant which is pretty much what I expected. We came here for a friend's birthday and tried a few different dishes. The Drunken Love pizza was pretty good though a bit salty and slightly overcooked and hard in my opinion. The Sunday Sauce with added meatballs was a solid pasta dish but the pasta itself was on the harder side. The Chicken Parmigiana was basic, nothing special. On the other hand, the garlic bread was easily my favorite of the night, so good! For dessert, we had the butterscotch pudding, which was just okay. If you have not been here, what the heck are you doing? I originally came here when it had just opened and while the food was great then, the second time, 2 years later, was even better. Somehow was able to make a reservation 3 hours prior for a 10:30pm, but unfortunately we were seated at the bar. We ordered: Caesar salad 5/5: it was actually good! I recall being SO full, but still decided to finish the bowl Drunken Love 1000/5: don't need to be drunk to be in love with this pizza. This pizza totally just HITS the spot. This place was amazing! Fast and easy they didn't have us waiting at all, we had a reservation, walked up to a table ready and food in minutes it felt like. We got pizza, meatballs and chicken parm, all were amazing. The pizza we got was the drunken love pepperoni and it was the best I've ever had. There is outdoor and indoor seating options available. I highly suggest making a reservation as this place tends to fill up. The restaurant decor is beautiful. Snagged a table at the pizza bar on a Saturday night. The service could be improved, but the pizza was some of the best I've ever had in DC (which is typically terrible). I highly recommend their spicy vodka pizza, but I forget the name of it. The caesar salad was excellent. The burrata was odd and not my favorite (it had croutons soaked in olive oil and vinegar which wasn't great). I ordered a whiskey sour which was good. My wife ordered an espresso martini because she was trying to "turn up" and hit the club after, but she didn't like the drink and reverted to Chianti. Report from my chick was the drink was bitter. I've been hearing great things about this place so decided to check it on out for lunch on a Monday. We made reservations for 11:30am when they opened. We were the first ones seated in the restaurant and had one of the best tables in the restaurant. By 12noon, the place was packed!! I was really shocked. We started with calamari for an appetizer. I wanted to try one of the soups but I heard the portion size was rather large, so decided against it. The calamari was amazing. It was cooked perfectly. For an entree, I went with the meatballs. It was good but nothing I was overly impressed with. Now the garlic bread, which I was shocked wasn't complimentary was soo yummy. Also, I must say their sweater weather drink which is apple cider and can be served alcohol or non-alcoholic was the best thing at the restaurant. It was the perfect beverage for a cold winter day. The vibes were very much "circle the block twice and pray." But we found a spot, so the night was already off to a good start. Our table was booked for 10:15 PM, which gave me pause since Google said they close at 10 PM. Naturally, I called to confirm, and the hostess reassured me they take reservations until 10:45 PM. Crisis averted. We arrived at 10:23, fashionably late but not obnoxiously so, and the hostess greeted us warmly before seating us at a cozy two-top by the window. As soon as we sat down, the water debate began. My homegirl, ever the fancy one, insisted on sparkling water because she "swears by it." Do you know how much sparkling water costs at a restaurant? $10 a bottle. But hey, hydration is key, and I'm happy to report I drank all my allotted two cups from the bottle. Growth. The server came over to ask if we wanted starters, and we did what any good friends would do--ordered to share. I got the calamari; my homegirl went with the Caesar salad. The calamari? Solid but nothing groundbreaking. It was crispy, seasoned well, and came with your standard marinara and aioli. A "good-not-great" situation. But the Caesar? BABY. That salad was a revelation. Fresh, crisp romaine, creamy dressing, a generous dusting of Parmesan, and crunchy breadcrumbs for texture. A sprinkle of chives added a pop of flavor, and it was all served on a vintage-style plate that made me feel like I was dining in the Italian countryside. Healthy eating that doesn't taste like it? Say less. When it came time for entrees, I ordered the Sunday Sauce (gnocchi), and my homegirl got the Drunken Love pizza. The gnocchi arrived first, and y'all... that first bite made me realize thefunnymomma and I have identical taste buds. The gnocchi was pillowy perfection, bathed in a rich, meaty marinara sauce, topped with fresh basil and Parmesan. It was warm, comforting, and everything I didn't know I needed on a Saturday night. The pizza? Stunning. A golden, blistered crust, fresh basil, and just the right amount of Parmesan. We had to put it on the neighboring table because ours was too small (a first-world problem, I know). Pro tip: eat it while it's hot. We let it cool down while we tackled the gnocchi, and while it was still good, I know it would've hit even harder fresh out of the oven. Lesson learned. Our total came to $101.06, which included a 4% surcharge (an operational fee introduced during the pandemic). Not outrageous for the quality, but definitely a reminder that fancy sparkling water adds up. Just when we thought the night was over, we noticed a stream of people heading to the back of the restaurant. Curious, I asked our server what was up. Turns out, there's a speakeasy hidden back there that's open until 3 AM! If we hadn't already booked another speakeasy, we would've stayed. Now I have another reason to come back. Grazie Nonna is officially my go-to for Italian food. The quality, flavors, and overall experience were unmatched. Between the chic decor (think chandeliers, rustic touches, and candlelit tables) and the cozy yet lively vibe, it's the perfect spot for a night out. We started off with drinks and ordered 4 starters to share: the Caesar, Tuna Crudo, Prosciutto and Melon, and the Burrata. Absolutely enjoyed the Caesar and Burrata. The Burrata had incredible flavor and especially loved the croutons in there. I could have gone without the Tuna Crudo and Prosciutto/Melon. A bit boring for my taste buds. My main was the Branzino, which is served in Cioppino Broth with Shrimp and Clams. The Cioppino broth is to die for. I came close to finishing the fish, but made sure every bite was soak in the broth. The restaurant is trendy and very busy. It's quite loud inside.
