My wife and I were in the mood for a nice quiet dinner and last time we visited here we had a pleasant experience and a great dinner. So we wait patiently to be seated and eventually are seated, our waiter takes our order and brings us our drinks and a bread basket. The drinks were fine but it took over 40 minutes for our Porterhouse to arrive. We ordered it Medium and it came medium rare and it normally comes on a hot cast iron plate but nope, not this time. We promptly inform our waiter and he takes it back and returns within 10 minutes but it was the same and cold, the grilled veggies were cold and the beans were cold. By this time, I was not happy at all. I gave them a chance to correct their mistake but it was worse. I asked for the manager and he apologized but by this time, my appetite was gone and I was not happy. This was the first time at this restaurant. The food was good however, as my daughter was enjoying the mashed potatoes she realized she was about to swallow a screw! We told the waitress who was very apologetic and clearly concerned.She took the screw and came back to tell us the manager was checking into it. We were expecting the manager to come and at the very least address the situation. The manager never came and left it up to the waitress to try and explain what could have happened. Our server was not that busy, and was horribly slow. Part of our order was incorrect, and our server, Diego, was going to correct it, but never did. Very dissatisfied with the management. I reserved the large dining room for 60 guests with an approved Menu #1 for a set price six months before our event. When we arrived, we were presented with a menu and all 60 ordered. When it came time to pay our bills, the price per meal was $20 higher than the agreed menu price. They brought us the wrong menu. There is no pricing on the group menu. After an hour of arguing and no apologies, we got a "partial" reduction. I got my deposit back that night. We returned for the same type event this year and even though we had a six month notice, half the items on the agreed menu were "not available". We made our substitutions and enjoyed the meal anyway. Again, 60 people. I have spent 3 months trying to get my "refundable" deposit returned. Miguel has refused to return my dozens of calls and texts. They kept my $100 deposit. We were sat in the front tables, what was concerning, is that my family and I kept seeing the manager cursing out multiple staff members and by the end of our dinner we saw the same manager kicking out a couple of the restaurant in a non respectful manner that disrupted all the people that were eating, including my family. I don't understand what is so horrible about this place. When I went, the atmosphere is incredible. One of the best reception desks I've ever seen! We were greeted and seated promptly. The wait staff definitely needs some training. Brianna was very pleasant but very raw in her skills. I did work with her on her sales skills. Have her teach the rest of the staff how to be better servers. Remind your staff that they should be making specific suggestions. Never ask if people want appetizers or desserts by saying things like "does anyone want an appetizer". Specifically mention their favorite and explain why you like it. Your service staff should be focused on creating unique dinner experiences. Teach them to talk from the heart. Telling people about your favorite foods in the menu will sell it every time. And when your staff is more personal with your guests, the sales and tips will increase. The food is hit or miss right now. While your green chili soup is absolutely superb, don't forget to strain the soup base. My soup has some small knots of rue in it. But, overall it is absolutely wonderful! Plus the presentation is perfect! The pork belly bites are absolute fire! If you could serve it with a warm flat bread, it would be even better! The brisket needs work. First, the cut of meat you are using needs to be stepped up. There was no fat cap nor any fat separating the superficial and deep pectoral flaps. Plus, the presentation needs a lot of work! This was the most disappointing part of this meal. The brisket was over cooked and left in the window too long. Your bbq sauce is a bit too much vinegar for me, but it has a wonderful zesty pop to it! The portions are good. The presentation is hit or miss. Be creative. Don't just throw a couple of slices of brisket on a plate with no decoration or style with nothing else. What is that?!? Take pride. Take time. And make it unforgettable. One last tip that you should be teaching your front of house. Imagine the restaurant is a shopping mall and each station of service is an individual store. Now, at this mall, everyone sells the exact same thing. So, how do you make your store better than everyone else's? Is your station more clean? Is your station caught up? Are you making solid suggestions? Are you taking orders or are you being a tour guide? All of these things make you a better server. Family of six, and every single dish we received was either cold, overdone, or looked like it had been sitting under the warmer forever. She went to inquire what happened to our server, she ended up coming back to us and taking our order. I am extremely disappointed with this location! I came to El Paso to visit my dad for a long weekend and was so excited to eat at The Great American Steakhouse. Unfortunately, there were multiple errors with our order. There were 4 of us and 2 drinks were brought over, but the other 2 drinks took about another 15-20 minutes because the "bartender made all 4 margaritas of the same flavor", error #1! We noticed that at least 4-5 tables around us were being served while we waited for our order. We asked for our waiter who eventually made his way over to tell us that they were short staffed in the kitchen. I finally asked to see the manager who apologized but then said they were taking care of a large party, yet another excuse. But I asked why multiple of the tables around us were served yet we had not been served. We finally got our food after over an hour of waiting. I appreciate the manager for attempting to help us, but it was a very disappointing experience, although my dinner was good, my stepmom's was not. It was very late. Today my filet mignon was medium rare (emphasis on RARE) after ordering medium - big difference. When chewing on semi-raw beef, even a tender cut seems chewy. The serving of chili beans was more of a bean soup, mostly liquid. The baked potato had an AWFUL flavor, chemical-like. The rolls were dry as they can be. Of the four problem items, the potato was the worst, I got a new one. I hardly ever return steaks unless totally off. The waitress Gabrielle was 100% on top of it. Additionally, I asked for no discount or freebies, this is an honest review. Just tired of how difficult it is to find a CONSISTENTLY GOOD steak restaurant. Just drove into El Paso, on my way back home to Fort Worth. Was hungry, and since the hotel was right down the street I decided on this place. BIG mistake. First, I was seated and waited about 10-15 minutes, before being acknowledged. The problem was, not with the server, it is how the tables are assigned to the servers. Ordered the bone in Rib Eye, which in the picture is a nice thick steak, what I got was a 1/2 inch piece of tough meat. Now I have been to many places, so eating this was nothing, especially since I was hungry, tired, and just wanted to get done. Gobbled down the tough steak, and asked for a cup of coffee, and the server says "Can't get you any coffee, as the press is broken". Huh? Asked for ticket and server forgot and offered dessert. Had to ask a different server for the ticket. Kept seeing a manager walking the floor, but not interacting with customers at least to say if service is okay. Great American Steakhouse's located on 1300 Airway Blvd, aspirations of greatness were unfulfilled, and the restaurant's presentation of my entree in a deep-dish pasta bowl unfortunately left a negative impression. The experience would have been satisfactory if not for the large, noticeable chip along the rim's edge, which undermined my eager anticipation of a high-quality and delicious meal, ultimately leading me to question the restaurant's commitment to quality control. A female staff member dressed in black, who appeared to be management due to her oversight of food service, was assisting the waiters. As part of a large group of 26 people celebrating a special occasion, I discreetly signaled her to discuss my concerns regarding the condition of my plate, without drawing attention to the issue or upsetting our host. Although I did not request a replacement entree, I later felt that I should not have had to take that step. Ideally, the manager should have apologized, removed the plate, and provided a fresh entree, as the broken plate posed a potential health risk had I consumed food from it. I tried to overlook the whole thing but it definitely ruined my dining experience as I sifted through the chicken Caesar salad looking for possible broken pieces of the bowl's ceramic. read more

It used to be excellent, but not yesterday. Everytime we spent a vacation in El Paso, we always eat at the Great American Steakhouse and always felt satisfied. But yesterday was different. They changed the chair. We sat on the sofa chair for 6. I thought it was great since we only 3. But it was unbelievably uncomfortable. Very tight, and my feet kept hitting either the poles or my husband's feet, so I had to move to the middle. I miss the old chair. Bring it back! My husband also said that there was something changed in the burger. It wasn't as good as before. Maybe they also change the recipe. The bread tasted like it's store-bought. Yesterday we had time and stop in El Paso to do a bit of Christmas shopping for our families and seen a billboard of a burger and said let go try this place. The burger was good, but I did notice that the server did not pay much attention to us because of the way we were dressed. We had been driving all day and hungry. I notice that all tables got bread except ours and my brother ordered a side salad that he never got. The server that took over the table was a bit friendlier to us and got us refills. My best advice for this place is HAPPY HOUR, which is from 4 to 7 pm. I was really excited to try this place because my bestie hyped me up about how their steak is so good that you dont need any steak sauce. So it's been years since I've been to this place. My previous reviews from the past weren't that nice. We just wanted to try something different than our regular places. First thing I noticed was they remodeled the outside and inside. The inside was very nice and everything was new. We were lucky to get seated quickly before the dinner rush hour. I just didn't like that we had a 15 minute wait for a server to take our drink order. I guess they were on a shift change around 4 because after we got our drinks this new waitress attended us. I ordered the burger, it was ok, not the best! The meat was warm not hot, it had a tiny piece of lettuce and the meat to bun ratio was off. In other words, the bun was bigger than the hamburger patty, they should equal in size. How do I know? Years of watching cooking competitions on the Food Network, the meat to bun ratio should be equal! So I just ended up picking at the bread and eating most of the meat. My steak fries were cold as well, but good for cold fries. I also ordered a side of corn on the cob, again cold, and lacked flavor and butter! I wonder if they use the frozen variety of corn on the cob? The corn cob I buy at the Wal Mart Produce section, that comes wrapped in a husk that I have to boil tastes better. My friend ordered the brisket platter, now that was delicious! His side of macaroni and cheese wasn't good, he didn't finish it. It smelled like pata, smelly foot! Maybe it's the Parmesan Cheese they sprinkled on it. If you are going to remodel the place, also an updated menu, at least have better tasting food! This is a restaurant close to our home but hadn't been here in some time. We noticed a lot of upgrades and looked really nice. Although the wait time was short especially being it was Christmas Day, the experience was soured by miscommunication and an aggressive manager. When it came time to pay, we commented on the fact that my son didn't seem to have received the extra chicken we had asked for on his salad and they were still charging the $8. The waiter said he would find out what happened and will have the charged removed. The manager then came up to our table and got right in my sons face and told him that he did receive 12 oz of chicken so he did get extra and that he could not remove the charge. My son was not the one that asked the waiter to see about dismissing the charge and should have been brought to our attention as a whole. It was not about not wanting to pay the extra money because we couldn't afford it. It was the fact that we did not see a difference in the amount of chicken that is usually placed on the buffalo chicken salad. I just did not like how the manager came up to my son as a matter of fact and said basically you're lying. After that, it took other 20 minutes to get our check back so we can pay. There must've been some miscommunication either between the manager, the waiter or the cook, but regardless, there should not have been an attitude coming from the manager the way that he did. read more
