I had lunch with a friend and we decided to come to Great American Steakhoues. We decided to try the BBQ tray, which includes a variety of items. The platter featured ribs, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, potato wedges, corn bread muffins, beans, and coleslaw. Unfortunately, the ribs, brisket, and corn bread were quite dry. I even had to pour a little water on my muffin to moisten it. I wish the brisket had some juice added before it was served. The ribs didn't fall off the bone, and they were difficult to cut apart. On the positive side, everything else was great, with the pulled pork being the standout item on the platter. I gave 3 stars simply for the food being too dry. The service could have been better, I know my friend was wanting another beer but by the time they came we were already done eating. read more

We ordered two hatch green chile burgers. We were so disappointed. Appeared to be so much smaller than the real Steakburgers we are used to from Great American Steakburger on Mesa Hills. They were tasteless. I think we were better off with Whataburger next door. Don't waste your time. read more

Service was good but the food is pretty bad. The caesar salad was by far the worst. The steak was pretty bland. When I told them to take back the salad back because I just wasn't going to eat it. This is a new location for this chain and it is wonderful. As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is soothing and cooling. The decor is well appointed giving an atmosphere of laid back elegance. I asked for a steak burger in a lettuce wrap. It came beautifully plated- I love looking at it. The burger was juicy and tasty. I also ordered the wedge salad and theirs had a fabulous dressing. They also have full coffee service to complement the meal, French Press, espresso, and regular Americano. read more

Stopped here for a quick bite and I was not disappointed. The Ribeye and New York Strip were ordered were cooked to perfection and they were tender and juicy. We also ordered lobster and decided to have it deep fried, although it was still delicious, it was a bit dry. Next time, charbroiled is the way to go. We ordered the Queso Molcajete and it was gooey, piping hot, and so yummy. If you are a fan of cheese, this appetizer has your name on it. It's literally a melted block of cheese with salsa, breading, and comes with corn tortillas. It's big enough for 4 people to share. The margaritas were small but refreshing, not too sweet or sour, made with fresh ingredients and not a mix. They do offer a selection of wines and beer on bottle and draft. The ambiance is intimate but upbeat. Modern decor, very enjoyable. The service was good, not superb, but good. We didn't have to flag our waitress for drink refills. All in all , this restaurant is a good place for dates, hanging out with some good friends, but it's inviting enough to also bring your kids and not feel out of place. The best burger I have ever had. It was a hatch green chile steakburger and it was absolutely perfect. The baked cauliflower was also very good. The bread with side cinnabutter and the Coleslaw was good too . Service by our Waiter was top notch and the atmosphere with its lighting was also very good. Some places have bad lighting thats on your head or its too bright but here, one light is on the table itself and can be moved around and really appreciated that. I will be back, this will be my go-to burger place. read more

While visiting family on a recent trip, my grandma was craving Great American Steakhouse and we decided to dine at their newish location on the west side. Since we arrived around 5:30pm on a weekday it was pretty dead and there were maybe about 3 other tables dining at the same time. Our server was super attentive and probably checked on us every five minutes or so. I think the only thing I wasn't fond of was the over pitching to upsell and purchase additional items or upgrade our dishes. It was pretty apparent there was some sort of staff competition and it came off as very car salesman. The food was solid of course and you can never go wrong with their steak sandwich. I had a short lesson enjoying the meal here - Great Amerocan has two different brands of restaurants in El Paso. I was completely unaware as I thought there was another Great American right around the corner on S. Mesa Hills, but it's completely a different store. This store replaced Delux, which ised to be here. Great American renovated the place, so you can't even tell what used to be here. They did an excellent job renovating the store, and it looks great. Then the food is very good. I had a green chili burger and finished it with a brownie and ice cream on top. Service was great as the hostess and waitress were exceptional. No complaints at all. Came in Monday morning looking for a nice lunch but left disappointed. Unprofessional waitstaff, waited to be greeted and could not help but feel like a burden to my server. Very rude and not at all welcoming or mindful of my dining experience, not only that but her entire décolletage was exposed leaving me uncomfortable, especially with my meal, didn't realize I had walked into a Hooters, I thought this was a family restaurant. The $10.99 menu feels like such a great deal until the server looks at you disapprovingly as if annoyed by your menu selection. Overall would've been a pleasant dining experience had the bartender been more attentive and less passive aggressive. Be mindful of who you hire. read more

The Great American Steakhouse has been a go to place for many El Pasoans. The food is consistently solid with delicious burgers. Definitely top five of El Paso. The service is very attentive and friendly. The ambiance is old Western with a cabin flavor and a sense of the past. So great for bringing your folks for lunch but maybe not the girlfriend for a romantic dinner. I think this place is due for an update. This said, many of my friends love this place for what it is a great American steakhouse. read more

As far as the ambiance and service, 5 Stars. Our server was new, but very good. No problems with him at all! I ordered the Green Chile soup and sausage bites. Both were excellent. I would go back and eat both again. My husband's dinner was the problem. He ordered the t- bone. When it arrived at the table, it was perfectly cooked. The problem was the smell and taste. It tasted like vinegar and smelt horrible! First time ever he sent a steak back. The manager came by and asked why and we told her. She went and talked to the cook and came back and, get this, tried to tell us that bone-in streaks smell like that! Seriously!! SERIOUSLY!!! I told her it was a spoiled smell. She suggested a steak without a bone. He wanted his t-bone. We got the second one and it was way better, but a faint smell was still there. He ate the potato and most of my sausage before the new steak came back out, so he only ate a couple bites. Get this... I brought most of it home to feed the dogs... We received the worst dining experience on 31 December 2024. I order the shrimp plate. The shrimp was under cooked and gummy, thus returning it and ordered the baby back ribs. We stopped by to pick up dinner on a busy week night. Unfortunately I still had to come home and prep my meal. I asked for sour cream on the side to my nachos. I received completely deconstructed nachos. I asked the hostesses how long for our meal. She said 20-25 minutes. Okay Let me have a glass of wine while I wait. It took 5 minutes to get a server and when I did order they were about to mix bottles. I stopped them. They couldn't open a new bottle and then of course the food arrived before I even received my wine much less enjoy it. In my opinion the servers were too busy chatting instead of tending their guests. Fortunately the food was good. I just don't think I will return anytime soon. read more

The steak was cooked to the correct temperature and very tasty. Now to the not so good. We ordered a baked potato with butter only and they brought us a baked potato and no butter. Our meals come with coleslaw and beans which we did not get. I mentioned this to our waitress when she brought our bill and she said she forgot. The Cajun chicken was horrible, it was undercooked completely. the tacos were stale and inedible, with overcooked beef. The steak was tough and horrible. Service was slow, waited an hour. I just moved to El Paso two years ago and I'm still looking for a good steakhouse/BBQ. Tonight I went to the Great American Steakhouse on Sunland Park Drive. We made a reservation which they did not have on the books but there were many seats available so we were able to be seated, everything was going just fine until we got our food. The vegetables were cold. The potatoes were cold and the butter was hard as a rock. My husband got the filet mignon, which he said was excellent but his grilled vegetables were cold. I got the personal barbecue platter, which had tons of food and it was Fairly good. The sausage had no flavor and was just blah. In short, I'm still looking for a good steakhouse. I've decided the best barbecue in West El Paso has to be Famous Dave's. read more

I order " The Great American Salad" and was truly disappointed as the most of the lettuce was wilted and covered up with the vinaigrette dressing. Then I thought maybe they're having a bad day? Worst experience ever! Why do they not allow negative 10 stars? My wife and I come here occasionally and it will be a very looooong time until we return, if ever. On 2/10/24 we visited the westside location if Great American. We ordered the Chile Hatch Burger, no onion, well done and the chicken sandwich. My wife had just water, I had a Stella Artois. The beer came out, no head (flat), nothing new in El Paso. It took about over 30 minutes (a couple that was seated 2 minutes prior to us had salad, an appetizer, entree and each two drinks left before our meal was served) for the sandwiches to arrive. My wife had a good view into kitchen and observed our waitress (none of this was her fault, she was nice) realizing that the burger had onion on it, turned to the guy in the kitchen who removed the top of the bun and the onion with his bare hand as he just took off his gloves. I am sure that the kitchen staff is wearing gloves for a reason - that did not matter to this guy. Needless to say we asked for another burger to be done. The chicken sandwich did not come on ciabatta bread for which the server apologized as they ran out of ciabatta bread. But that was not all: it was missing the avocado and it was only one piece of chicken; I believe it should come with 2 pieces. But wait, that is not all: the chicken was cold! At this time we had it! The assistant manager who turned out to be completely unqualified came to the table and gratuitously stated that we do not have to pay for the food, but she said it in a way as if she would be doing us a favor. I said that would be fine but that I would pay for one beer (I ordered another beer to drink with my meal, but did not touch it and since I did not have a meal and did not drink the beer I certainly was not going to pay for it). Any manager with more than a week on the job would be tactful enough just waive the $6 for the beer. Oh, no. Not this one. She charged me for 2 beers! Oh, it is getting better. I said I would pay for one beer only and it took about 10 minutes until they unsuccessfully tried to credit my credit card. I ran out of patience seeing her, the bartender, and the manager punching cluelessly on the monitor and flagged her suggesting to reimburse the $6 in cash. That is what they did and off we went to another restaurant as we were hungry as heck. One last thing about this fantastic assistant manager: when she removed our food she apologized and offered a gift card "Let me see if I can find one. " She never came back with a gift card and as we left my wife asked about it and received the response "Oh, we do not have any gift cards right now." Now, for us it is not about the free beer or gift card, but as a manager you could have not handled this situation any worse. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE! read more

At first staff was very friendly and tentative, about half way when our food came out it looked like it had been sitting for awhile, which it had as our server told us since all management quit and everyone was figuring out what to do. So given that, food was okay would have been better had it been actually served as intended, staff was still friendly despite what had happened. I revisited this location after having had not so good food last year. This time the service was poor and the food just okay. I had to get another server just to get a beverage I ordered. When the original server delivered the food, she brought the dishes out with her thumb planted in the middle of the plates/ bowls which is a definite health violation. The food was not hot which leads me to believe it sat around for awhile. We later contacted the manager, who just shrugged it off stating they were short staffed and that she would address it with the server. I'm only giving 2 stars because it was clean. Me and my wife went to dinner at The new Great American on Sunland Park and were greeted well, they sat us down in the back, the waiter seemed pleasant and was attending another 2 tables and brought us the bread and butter without a knife nor utensils so we used our hands for the bread. He poured us warm water with 100+ temperature outside.. so i asked for a glass of ice only that took 15 minutes. I ordered the steak tampiquena with a baked potato and my wife ordered a steak salad. They took about 45 minutes to bring our food. When my food came we still didn't have silverware nor bowls to serve the coleslaw and beans so we asked for silverware again for the third time.. Mine arrived with no tampiquena topping just a steak and no baked potato. The waiter only check up on us 3 times during the 90+ minutes we were there. I let the waiter know about my order after he checked up on us at 20 minutes later. He asked if I wanted to return it or just bring the topping which was faster so I went with just bring the topping because it would be faster , they also took forever to bring it and I was half done with my steak by the time the topping arrived. The Manager offered free dessert for the inconvenience.. which I passed so they gave me a $7 discount.. lol even after I never got my baked potato! I will not visit that place any time soon. It was my first time trying out this location and I was impressed with how modern it is and the food was excellent! The staff is very friendly, our server Marlene was very attentive and polite! I am extremely indecisive and was asking many questions about the menu and Marlene answered all my questions nicely and even recommended items. I will definitely be coming back. Saw the sign and expected it was going to be a traditional Great American Steakhouse... not. It is very confusing. They did a great job of remodeling the building and it looks great... for a bistro of some sort. The interior is very confusing. All the Great American locations I have been to are themed as a ranch/rancher/BBQ ambiance. This location is set up like an upscale bistro with fancy chairs and purse hanger things. There are large pictures or paintings of cattle on the walls... which is what I expect to see. Then they have a huge video screen showing videos of the ocean, dolphins, overhead shots of strange areas. Does not go with the ranch/steakhouse/BBQ thing. Then... the horrible music. They play (loud) Gen-Z snooty foolty music like you would hear in a kids bar or nightclub. Not at all ranchy in any way. It was loud and difficult to hear people. Service was good except my order was not done correctly and they did not offer to fix it. Baked potato was almost warm. Butter would just sit there cold on the potato and not melt. Beans were cold. Slaw was very good, and the bread they bring out was okay. Overall, I felt very uncomfortable there, hated the loud weirdo music. Felt like I was in a bistro that was trying to service BBQ in some fancy shmancy way. Next time, I will go to one of the older Great American locations that understands wooden seating, ranch artwork, country music in the background and just plainly dressed servers who have a good personality and deliver what you order. Sundland Park location was not a good experience and I will not be back... however, if they get back to ranch and steakhouse basic and focus on food, service and a relaxing atmosphere, I would go try it...
