Stopped in down the street to charge my car and decided to give Great Basin a chance again to fill the lunch void. This time, left totally happy, the sandwiches are fantastic and the take home sourdough bread made a hell of a trip sandwich for dinner. Our favorite was by far the Muffuletta Sandwich, packed with meat and flavorful as can be. The rest of the family got BLAT's (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Tomato) which were good as well, but the Muffuletta is really the way to go. We got a cookie again this time, the Lemon Butter, and this one seemed way better than last time. Maybe the recipe changed or maybe last time was just a fluke. I will for sure stop here again for lunch as we pass though. Only time I am actually in Bishop is going to and from LA/Reno, but I always charge in the lot behind Great Basin.

Way better than Schatt's when it comes to bread and cookies. Those are the clear strengths here. We tried the peach pie and the coffee and neither really impressed. That said, the place is small, charming, and the people are really nice. The bathroom is literally you walking behind the back and going to their bathrooms lol. As long as you know what to get and stick to the bread and cookies, it absolutely delivers. Service: Very nice and welcoming Food/Drinks: Excellent bread and cookies, peach pie and coffee were underwhelming Ambiance: Small, cozy, and local 10/10 Know what to order and it can easily feel like a 10 out of 10 experience

Great Basin Bakery is a wonderful bakery located in Bishop on the way to the mountains. This spot is super popular and for good reason! They are serving up delicious and fresh and sandwiches. Also they are known for their cookies and fresh baked breads. It's a must stop for a causal breakfast or lunch. This bakery is located downtown and our GPS got us here just fine. We parked on the street and walked quickly across to the bakery. Pro tip is to order ahead online. When we got here there was a line about 10 people deep. We were able to bypass the line and go to the back where their pick up area is, we gave our name and they handed over our sandwiches immediately. There is limited seating inside and it is pretty much a takeout spot. However, if you can snag a seat, there are a few tables, but I would say 90% of the people here were taking the food to go. That's why I would recommend placing an online order for pick up because it just made the whole process really quick and the sandwiches were super fresh, they hadn't been sitting around, etc.. I went with the cold roast beef sandwich, which as simple as it was - it really was delicious. 5/5 stars! The roast beef was generous, and the tomato and lettuce was very fresh. It came with a thick slice of American cheese and the horseradish mayonnaise sauce was phenomenal. I ordered extra horseradish cream sauce on the side and they didn't charge me for it, which was very nice of them. The sandwich was honestly just so well crafted and generous with the portions, that it's a solid sandwich. Prices were pretty reasonable as it was under $19 for a sandwich and some chips. I know you can make sandwiches cheaper at home but sometimes a good deli sandwich is worth the price and the convenience of just coming to picking up. Staff here were very friendly and welcoming. It's a busy spot and a lot is going on but the quality and care by the staff is still 100% there. The inside is a bit outdated, but it more gives a homie old-school vibe. They do have bathrooms in the back and they were clean, so it's great if you need a quick rest stop. This is definitely a local gem and if you stop here, you're in for a treat of a really classic old-school sandwich.

The best breakfast bagel sandwiches in town. Local no frills spot for quality food. Quick and friendly service with hot sandwiches loaded with egg and meat (I got ham) for a reasonable price. You can choose your bagel flavor and add protein option for an additional charge. They have fresh bread and pastries, and a self slicer if you get a loaf. The pizza bagel was especially delicious!

My favorite stop in bishop. Mt. Tom sandwich, bread, all pastries, molasses and Sierra mud cookies are all my favorite. The best thing is that you can place an order online.

Solid local bakery with pies, cookies, pastries, sandwiches, and some tasty looking Artisan breads. Sandwich makers are quick too. Very local feeling place, street parking with a free shared lot a very short walk away, and equally close to the local Supercharger.

Best sourdough ever. My San Franciscan husband agrees. The pastries are to die for, too.

Things to buy here for sure while you're there: - Pull Apart Bread - 8/10: different variations, but all sweet, gooey, decadent. It's like the traditional cinnamon roll's raunchy cousin. - Pastrami sandwich - 10/10: good lord this is delicious. Easily top 5 sandwiches I've ever had. Hefty and filling for sure. The meat isn't your run-of-the-mill, dry, salty pastrami that you'll get at your local deli. They use premium naval cuts that are lightly seasoned, juicy, fatty, and super tender. The Swiss is also soft and spongy, very similar to mozzarella. You'd be satisfied just eating this by itself. And the rye bread is artisinal elite level, as expected. Freshly baked and super soft. So damn good I nearly SCHAT my pants!! - Original Sheepherder Bread - 8.5/10: 100-plus year-old recipe. Tried and true. Great for sandwiches or even just toasted with whatever spread that floats your boat. Versatile and superb. Another thing to note: this place is fully staffed and they have their stuff together. So ordering and getting your stuff goes pretty fast even with the long lines. Super efficient, friendly staff and establishment. A great time was had by all.
