Had the ham and provolone on toasted sourdough. Absolutely delicious. Picked up molasses spice, chocolate chip and Sierra mud cookies. All were worth double the calories! The Sierra mud is gluten free and made with almond flour so it had the texture of a big French macaron. A nice crackly outside with a soft chewy inside. Do yourself a favor. Great food and service...but be aware of how you calculate the tip. For larger amount, they will use percentages for tip but for smaller amount they will use a "flat" rate. ( for ex, a bag of chips that costs 2.25, tipping options would be: $1, 1.50 or 2). Was grateful for their friendly service but had to question when I paid 4.25 for a bag of chips after adding tip. read more

We love this bakery! It's our favorite spot to stop for lunch when we drive through town. Their bread is fresh and I was stoked to see the sourdough didn't have folic acid...just good clean ingredients! The lemon cookie is to die for. Always good breakfast sandwiches. The best places are in small towns off the beaten path. Amazing cookies and breads. I love the cookies because they aren't overly sweet. To the man who took our order today (Dec 21,2024) This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had with my family. I walked in with my service dog. The man (blond thinning hair and tall) behind the counter aggressively told me no animals allowed. I said "she is a service dog" He then asked for what? First of all, that is completely rude and illegal to ask what I have a service dog for. He rudely asked what the service dog was for as if he was trying to trick me (like I don't know what I am talking about) I said it's my daughter's service dog for Seizures. I was ordering and I handed the service dog to my daughter and he rudely questioned me again asking why I was walking in the with the dog and my daughter wasn't. We walked in as a family. It doesn't matter if the service dog is with my daughter hand in hand. As long as her dog is within a few feet, she can sense a seizure. This man cannot ask about the person's disability, request medical documentation, or demand a demonstration of the dog's abilities. This man was completely out of line and I will tell every one of my family and friends NOT buy anything from this unprofessional business. To the man in the blue shirt taking our order; I urge you to take time to read about a child with seizures and what the life long experiences it has on a child and a family. Go a step further and you should sit and reflect on your horrible despicable behavior and go to CHLA (Children's Hospital of Los Angeles) and donate your time and money to children who are faced with this unknown disability. Thank you for ruining our experience at your bakery. I know in my heart that we are truthful and even showed you our daughter's service dog paperwork, clearly to make a point. Would you like to also see the EGG and Neurologist bills? Anything else? The tension that you created in the 5 minutes that we were in your store was palpable and incredibly uncomfortable. It's disappointing to experience such a negative atmosphere in what should be a welcoming environment. We hope that in the future, your staff can work on creating a more positive and respectful experience for all customers. Unfortunately, this man has to live with this terrible behavior that everyone felt in the bakery. Others heard your comments and I have to say your customers were disappointed as well. I ate here 2 days over the course of the week I was here. The peanut butter cookie is soooo good! It tastes like how a cookie should taste to me. Crunchy exterior and a gooey interior. My bf and I got bagel breakfast sandwiches but after eating them we both had horrible stomachaches and had to make frequent trips to the bathroom. I would NOT recommend the bagel sandwiches. We think it was something to do with the eggs. We both got different flavors but the egg was the same for both sandwiches. Taking a star off for the bagel sandwiches. I do like their veggies sandwich though. It was easy to pack into my backpack since it was already wrapped. The Veggie sandwich has spinach, pesto, tomatoes, avocados, and provolone cheese. Amazing almond croissant! Great service! Fast and polite despite a long line. Yummy looking assortment of other pastries.

We stopped here on the way home for breakfast and sweets. We ordered two bagel breakfast sandwiches and 4 different cookies. The cookies were big, and the flavors were good, but we prefer chewy, crispy cookies. These were cakier in texture; we'll pass on this next time. My wife's breakfast sandwich on a regular bagel with ham was good, but mine on a cheesy bagel with sausage was outstanding...hence the 5 stars. The bagel was coated in cheddar cheese, so much so, that the hole was completely filled with a gob of cheese, then they add cheese to the sandwich, were not talking a kraft single either, but rather a nice cut of cheddar cheese perfectly melted through. Combine that with the egg and sausage..bam! What a sandwich! C'mon $5.50? Same price you pay for a fast food sandwich and epically better. I'll need to come back try some of their breads and sandwiches. read more

Most tourists stop at the well-known bakery on Main Street. Well if you're doing that you're missing out. Great Basin Bakery the best. I love their roast beef sandwich on sour dough with horseradish sauce. We also get the turkey with roasted tomatoes. Both are delicious! So are their pastries. Order ahead or quick service when you get there. It's a small place and located a storefront off of Main Street with street parking. I highly recommend this place! read more

Where the locals go! While in Bishop for business, I stopped to see the contractor that installed a solar thermal system we supplied for Great Basin Bakery's soon be open new location. The owner wanted the solar system to help cut back on the cost of gas for doing dishes. While talking to her, she told me about a new product they have for taking leftovers home in containers that can be washed and reused at home or brought back to them to be washed and reused for someone else's leftovers. That's potentially a lot of dishes. I asked the contractor for a recommendation on a lunch spot, and he said Great Basin Bakery and added that's where the locals go. Tourists go to Schat's, and locals go to Great Basin Bakery. I stopped in at the original open location and was too late for lunch but did buy a loaf of sourdough bread that I have been enjoying for a week now. Next time I'm down that way I'll definitely be stopping in to try their lunches, and for sure, take home at least one loaf of bread. On a side note, the sourdough loaf I purchased was less than I could get one for at a local big box store. read more

Small shop with lots of great bakery options. It's kind of at the south end of town, so it doesn't feel as hectic, although there's no parking lot and not a lot of street parking. Still haven't been able to get there at the right time on Friday morning to try their garlic sourdough, but we're going to keep going back until we do. read more

Really cool spot for its background, but definitely a lot of hype. I had the cinnamon pull apart, jalapeño cheese bread, and some donuts. All was good, but I get just as good at my local farmers market and for less. It was very overwhelming inside as it was a lot of people. Probably will skip out next trip out. read more

The *Mt. Tom Turkey Sandwich* ($9.45) is the real deal and is so completely scrumptious with the carved turkey, sundried tomatoes, and avocado. Too many delicious items here that I wanted to grab but couldn't since I would not have been able to store them anywhere while in the wilderness. I grabbed the *Big Mud Cookie* ($2.50) though to consume on my drive up to Mammoth and was in instant heaven! Gooey and so soft... if only I could warm it up! Had I been able to make it there before they closed on my Sunday down from Mammoth (they closed at 2pm at the time), I could have grabbed some of their sourdough bread to-go, along with other goodies as the choices for freshly baked goods is endless! Walked in and couldn't help but notice the perfect assortment of desserts, bagels, and breads. A simple menu with friendly staff. Ordered two sandwiches and only took about 5-10 minutes to come out. We got the BLAT add turkey and the muffuletta. Bread talks. A sandwich really does depend on the bread and the Great Basins fresh bread really was a staple. I want to make a huge shout out to the Great Basin staff for their excellent service and commitment to great customer service. Every Friday my husband brings home almond croissants for breakfast from Great Basin Bakery. I look forward to them every Friyay! Last Friday I called the bakery and spoke with the baker Mathew to let him know that the almond croissants we purchased were not good. Too much filling and heavy. He apologized and reminded me that they were involved in a major change with the bakery. To my delight, today my husband brought home almond croissants from Great Basin and they were amazing. I wonder if they do mail order? Hmmmm.... -Sausage rolls: Wamed or toasted for sandwiches, this was as fresh as I hoped it would be even a couple days later after purchase. Get these for your outdoor adventure meals. Summary: The vibe in this place as opposed to the other bakery down the street is very much a local joint. However, I had no issue with the customer service and the fact that some items sell out faster than others suggest you need to get here earlier in the day to get them. They also sell sandwiches too, but I didn't get to try any of those since lunch was already in the car waiting for me. Definitely need a longer visit next time and well worth a stop over. read more

Good little bakery! Seem to cater to locals more than tourists. Workers knew a few of the customers that came in. We got: - kids ham and provolone on sourdough - kids enjoyed this, bread was soft - BLAT on sourdough - really good and filling - cowgirl cookie - apricot oatmeal, a little too sweet - spinach artichoke croissant - sourdough loaf They also had a few organic fruits for $1.50 each in a basket.
