Before I leave an HONEST review of GBB I would like to come clean. My daughter has become friends with the owners daughter, becoming roommates in college. We wanted to visit and support the business because above all else the owners are genuinely good people. So, here it goes. The bakery is a little hard to find. It's not on the main blvd. It's situated down a small street, with a small "storefront" wall facing the street. You will see it though because there will be people coming and going. It's a popular place. We went in on our way to a weekend in Lee Vining. We purchased scones, sourdough bread and coffee cake. The scones were fantastic! Great taste and texture. With a cup of coffee, they were to die for. The bread was really good but not sour enough for my tastebuds. We took the coffee cake with us to Lee Vining and enjoyed it all weekend. It stayed fresh and tasted wonderful our entire stay. The service was quick and friendly. We asked questions on the employees and they were very knowledgeable of the product. On our way back home, we decided to buy a couple of sandwiches and 1 to 2 person pies. The sandwiches were good but not out of this world. However, what I liked about them was the fact they were LOADED with meat! Believe me when I say that you will NOT be hungry after you eat one of their sandwiches. And they weren't overpriced! Matter of fact, they were cheaper than what I believed they would be anywhere else. You can't go wrong eating lunch there. The pies we tried when we got home. Blueberry and apple. Absolutely tasty!!!! The best little pies I've ever had. Money well spent. I would recommend trying everything/anything GBB makes. It will no doubt be good, perhaps even exceptional. However, the prices are fantastic for high quality, something you don't find any more. Please do yourself a favor and visit GBB. You'll be glad you did. read more

The food is great, I'll never say anything about it. I'm a local and I'm always so disappointed with how bad the customer service is. Every time I'm ordering the two ladies behind the counter always makes me feel dumb. I've never gone somewhere with customer service as bad as theirs. I always feel like crying every time I'm done ordering. Most of the time they're out of what I want to get but then I see others with it! I rolled my eyes at on of the cashiers one time after she was being plain rude, and she tried to tell my family about it!! Yes, she tried to get me in trouble when she was being a mean person. I'm sure everyone knows who I'm talking about. Sucks because I'm a local and I love the food but I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to feel bad the rest of your day. read more

Family atmosphere. Fast service. You know you're at the good place when there are just as many locals ordering. Ordered the Mt Tom Turkey and the Muffuletta. Wish I took a picture of both. Muffuletta was eaten the next day and held up being in the cooler overnight. Like how they split the lettuce in two layers. Fullness of the sandwich was not just in the center. Also had the Rosemary Shortbread, excellent balance. Not over done on the Rosemary and soft crumb. read more

We stopped by here because the reviews are so good. We ordered sandwiches and shared a cookie. My turkey was just ok, they don't use freshly carved turkey, and the bread was very soft and squishy, almost like white bread. I've had much better. My husband's roast beef was just ok, he said. The chocolate chip cookie was huge but lacked flavor. Even Costco cookies are better. I wouldn't order another one. We tried the place once, but we probably won't return. read more

Tried making a online order twice, twice it took my money and then put it back on my card. When I explained it to 2 different employees or the same employee she was rude and said their online system wasn't open but they still have the website open and allows you to put your card information in & order. My wife and I stopped in today as usual for a yummy bagel and coffee on our drive from Bakersfield to Boise. The bagels and coffee are still delicious. However, I was severely disappointed at the apparent recent significant price increase on the bagels (sandwiches also) . On my most recent trip, approximately 2 weeks ago, the prices were much more reasonable. I know fuel costs are crazy right now, but the high fuel prices will soon subside. The price increase on the menu items will be permanent. So disappointing. Another place I really enjoy that I have to remove from my list. For some perspective, I twice visited a bagel shop(Johnyboys) on the central coast (expensive zip code). They also make excellent house made bagels. They are also a small, independent business. The price of a Jalapeño Cheddar bagel with cream cheese is literally only 3$. Great Basin Bakery is approaching double the price. No offense to Great Basin, but I simply don't understand the price difference or significance price increase. I will miss stopping in to Great Basin Bakery as I pass through Bishop every other week. read more

We stayed next to the Erick Schat's Bakery but it seems like a touristy location and places like that tend to be overrated so we went with Great Basin which seems to be a more local spot based on a Reddit. I got the ham and cheese croissant and the hubby got a gluten free chocolate chip cookie. I'm a ham and cheese croissant connoisseur but Great Basin's did not disappoint. Hubby was also very happy with his GF cookie - perfect texture of fluffy and crumbly, and a right amount of sweetness. There also seem to be quite a bit of locals when we stopped by. We were given Asiago Sourdough bread from this bakery by friends some time back. We were in Bishop this past week and had to stop and buy a lot more - some as gifts to others. The Asiago and standard Sourdough are excellent and the cookies and pies are so good. If you are in the area visit the main store or the outlet. They are the best. read more

It was a stroke of luck that led me to this bakery. The bakery is a block from the Tesla Supercharger station, and we had about half an hour to venture around the neighborhood. In reality, I wanted to use the restroom more than anything else. However, after looking at the baked goods, I couldn't resist getting something from their stock. What I ordered: ALMOND CROISSANT - This flat goodness, the size of my face, was delightful. The pastry was fluffy, and I couldn't keep my eyes off the disfigured design. The outer crust had sliced almonds and coated powdered sugar on top, while the center filling had an almond pastry. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Also stopped by Schat's Bakery too, but I like how it's less crowded here and I'm fine with the fewer options of breads, sandwiches, cookies, and pastries as long as they're good. They should put prices on all their menu items as I had to ask the cashier for prices. Breakfast Croissant sandwich- I appreciate they use organic eggs and it was hot when I got it. This was a FULL meal as it was a large sandwich. Pretty good. I would get it again for an easy meal. Iced Chai Latte- Meh. Too light in flavor for me. No complaints about food. None, zero. Last year we were able to eat in the outside garden, accompanied by our large, compliant dog who sat patiently in the grass next to the table. This year, we made a visit, ordered and paid for food, and members of our group found a nice table outside. At the very end of the transaction, the server asked if that was our dog, and informed us that it was unacceptable. I explained that last year there was no problem. She said that some of the staff had been bitten by dogs. Right. Sure. We got a refund on the order and the enormous tip (have to double check that), and left. By the way, Caffe De Latte down the street has a funky layout, good coffee, totally dog-friendly. Recommended. However, I do not understand eliminating business for responsible folks with well behaved dogs. Raise your hand if your dog has bitten someone. Frankly, I think it is a poor excuse. read more

Decided to switch it up this morning and went to Great Basin Bakery instead of Schatts down the street. Its a cute little bakery that looks like they put in their everything to make some good bread. I got a sandwich - Mt Tom and an iced coffee. The Mt. Tom was a really refreshing and filling sandwich. I ate half and saved the other half on the road. Its packed with veggies and has turkey in it. Choice of bread - I had sourdough, cant really taste the sourness through the sandwich. I bought a separate loaf of sourdough on the side and currently still trying to finish the bread. It is quite good so far! The iced coffee was pretty strong and pretty bitter in a good way I think. My friend got their soup of the day which was tomato bisque and woah that was really good! I'd recommend getting their soups. My other friends got croissants and cookies and said it was really good. Safe to say we ate more than we intended and looking to come back here for another great meal. read more

I happened to finally try this place after a weekend in Bishop/Big Pine. I've always heard some good things about it so I decided to stop by for a sandwich prior to heading home. I was so glad I did since I was met with very friendly staff and a delicious sandwich to close out my little weekend getaway. I ordered the Mt Tom and that sandwich was very tasty. The sun dried tomatoes, subtle spice of the chipotle mayo and a slight zing of the red onion (but tamed down by the avocado) and the very light and airy sourdough just brought pleasant flavors bite after bite. There are an assortment of other bakery goodies like pies, cookies and fresh breads but unfortunately I didn't take any home with me...but there's definitely a next time :) read more

Great Basin Bakery is a small bakery on S. Main St. Parking can be challenging because the street is so busy (we ended up parking on Lagoon Street). We picked up an apple cinnamon coffee cake. The service was good, and the apple cinnamon coffee cake was a hit! The bread had chunks of delicious apples and a great cinnamon flavor. It turned out incredibly moist and delicious when heated with a bit of butter. When we took it back to camp, it smelled so good all night that I couldn't wait to enjoy it the next morning. **Note:** You can purchase cream cheese frosting separately, and I'd recommend using it on the apple cinnamon coffee cake. Heat up the cake and spread the frosting while it's still warm--it's just perfect. Honestly, they should offer this combination as a standard option. read more

I plan on returning again for the Sierra Mud Cookies. Oh man, those are delicious! I could have devoured that little bad in one sitting, but opted not too. Every bite can get messy, so be sure to have baby wipes to help with the clean-up. It's a hidden gem with the entrance around the corner, but you can find it once you park. This small bakery did not have much selection when we arrived, but I was told by a regular that this little bakery sells out early and fast on the freshly baked goods, so I plan to make a return in the morning.
